They're not really overpriced, at least not all products.
Notice how they don't sell you exactly the same products as normal stores do.
They just pick the most expensive variants to sell.
For example, while a normal store will sell you a normal potato, Erewhon will sell you Bonnottes de Noirmoutier.
[Just a made up example, don't know what kind of potatoes they're selling]
If you're a professional chef then this difference often matters a lot, depending on the dish and who you're cooking for.
I do agree that most people do not need to, and probably shouldn't, regularly buy from them though.

@@Megadextrious I don't know if this will help much, but the Banquet brand sells $1 pot pies, and they're pretty filling for a lunch or dinner. They aren't the greatest food in the world, but it's well balanced and tastes good enough, and it's a comfort food.
Cutting down on grocery costs can be really hard, but if you don't mind stocking up on cheap frozen dinners (like the pot pies), cans of fruits and veggies (they're usually inexpensive), and off-brand products (forget Oreos, go back to Hydrox!), then you can make do with less money. I'm not in your position, but even I'm trying to cut down on grocery costs just because this inflation is artificially induced and it is getting ridiculous. These big corporations do not need to be stealing that much money away from us.
