Yeah, they lack honest pricing strategies at some locations can be frustrating, on top of the tax for a takeout pizza you have to pay an inflated price due to weird additions such as "added toppings" and "service fee", a pizza that cost $10 dollars ends up costing $15 dollars. I never have that issue with Dominoes or Pizza Hut, what they offer is what you get.
@Jacob Stone They shouldn't charge a premium for what's not a premium pizza. I paid almost 40 bucks (38 dollars) for 2 pizzas one time, they didnt taste the best, but since it wasn't just for me I let it slide. The price never matches the quality
For where I'm at, they changed in the wrong way. Never cooked all the way, and no nastalgic grease (well there is, but because it's never cooked all the way, it just becomes a mess). If you want the 80s/90s pizza hut fix, IMO Little Caesars will be closer to that, than pizza hut is today.
Growing up, pizza hut was the "gourmet" pizza in the family. Even though it was pricier, it actually tasted better...but now....it doesn;t. plain and simple
I remember as a kid hearing peers blurt out "eewww" whenever an adult even alluded to using Dominos for Pizza. Back then Pizza Hut was the superior chain and nobody came close. My oh my how times have changed.
Short answer: declining product quality, increasing prices. They literally ship frozen dough discs to their chains and add toppings. Pizzas aren’t even made on site.
As a former employee. I can %100 back your claim. I literally worked at the number 2 worst store in my state and at the time, the worst in the country. Things weren't so bad but the managment was garbage and employees terrible.
Freezing dough doesn’t affect its quality. The problem with freezing food is any water in it expands, which ruptures whatevers containing it (generally cell walls). Hence frozen foods tendency to leak after thawing. Thats also why we can’t freeze and thaw people without killing them, fwiw, but since the defining characteristic of dough is it’s elasticity, it just isn’t an issue. It sucks, and it feels like cheating, but it has literally zero effect on the finished product. Nice try though.

Actually, I don't think their quality went down, it just stayed the same as it was back in the '70s, '80s, and '90s when there was much less competition and peoples' expectations were lower. You can't keep selling the same pizza in 2020 that you did in 1985. People expect better quality now than they used to.
This is an easy answer 1. Taste went down, yet prices went up 2. Buffets became less popular (they made a lot off those CiCis style buffet) 3. For years they didn’t deliver (at least in my area) so people got more accustomed with other pizza places
@@johndough3125 why use blasphemy and use God's name in vain? Just say it's greedy people awful instead. These greedy people just want to cut corners on the ingredients.
(1) true off and on since at least the 1970s. (2) Only reason Buffets are down is COVID - they were getting MORE popular over the years 'till the lockdowns started, and with "shared food" the buffets got hit the hardest. (3) I've NEVER seen an area with a Pizza Hut that did not have delivery, with the exception of *ONE* - the Meadows Drive area of Indianapolis (highest crime AND MURDER rate area of Indianapolis for many many years). And I remember so clearly because I always begged my mom to order their stuff crust, but they didn’t deliver so we always got stuck with dominos and papa johns. @@kinnyboy How far out was your suburb? As far as buffets went - Ryans used to be a steakhouse with a buffet, but they dropped the "steakhouse" part ENTIRELY over time as it was the buffet almost everyone was going to them for, while the steakhouse part was marginal to unprofitable due to high labor costs and low usage. Just for one example. The shrinkage of Ryans was due to one of their founding partners deciding to retire, and the cost of paying them off - which killed Ryan's bottom line for years.
Pizza Hut's quality went downhill since the 80s and 90s. Their pizza is so disgusting now. For commercial I rather have Dominos or Papa John's. For a great pizza I rather go to a local mom and pops restaurant.
Not a fan of Pizza Hut, but I have every year disliked their pizzas more. I don't know why, it always gives me a stomach ache. I thought at one point it was due to added sugar in pizzas I'm dough and sauce. No other chain or independent pizza places cause issues.
I worked at Pizza Hut in high school, and their food was pretty good. I worked for them again recently and there is literally almost nothing that isn't frozen. You can't charge those kinds of prices for frozen pizza, and succeed.
... pizza's expensive, I worked at domino's for a bit and highest single pizza I saw was $75, customer's complaining about price was common and super annoying
I had Domino's pizza exactly once, back in 1990. It was only 2 blocks away, and I thought "Great. A close pizza place.". The product was unbelievably poor. I felt like I had been swindled. If I recall, the Domino's business model was to largely locate their stores next to college campuses. Only drunk/high desperate college students with the late night munchies could possibly eat their product. I swore I would never eat a Domino's product again. I haven't since, and I never will.
I’m my honest opinion, Pizza Hut had the best pizza ever! Then it was like something changed. The taste changed, and not long after the franchise here in the town where I live closed down completely.
To me, I may have only grew up with Pizza Hut Expresses (especially at Target stores) more than the standard ones my whole life, but it makes me so mad that most of my closest standard Pizza Huts in my state closed down for good. Now I’m forced to drive as many miles as possible from home to any of the fewer remaining Pizza Huts in my state just to pick up pizza and cheesesticks. I feel like after the Cheez-It pizza (was ok), I’m starting to miss out on any of the limited-time options. Also most Targets that have Pizza Hut Expresses are now converted to a marketplace with more healthier options, which I will sure miss.

Sometime in the 90's or early 2000's, PH went from "made fresh every morning" to actually have their supplier bring FROZEN dough with the weekly delivery. There were too many episodes of hourly employees putting things in the dough that were less than appropriate. Instead of better training, they lost their good reputation due to a lack of effort to keep it.
Yeah they had some horrible pizza and then redid their whole menu and stuff. Its actually pretty good now. I mean, not the best, but for delivery its up there.
They've been using cheap frozen dough since 2005 that's pre made to keep up with the competition. It's similar to the original recipe but not the same and it's cheaper like i said. Back in the 90s for example when alot of you guys remember eating at Pizza Hut they made there own fresh dough right in the restaurant. Just watch the 80s Pizza Hut training video on RUclips
Pizza Hut's Stuffed crust was changed to cream instead of cheese, and meat in my country during the pandemic. It just isn't delicious. Not sure if it's the same for other countries.
I stopped going to Pizza Hut when their franchisee started charging an extra “California service fee” instead of just raising prices. A bait and switch on their prices. Plus their pizza quality is not as good as it was in the 90s.
Same here. I noticed the fee and the description was something like 'To offset the cost of doing business in California'. They stopped getting my business! I think I saw an ad that said they were getting rid of it, but they're still not competitively priced, so I never make it that far.
@@stAirborneMk lol thats a rip off. With their coupons the cheapest you could get 4 larges would be 40 dollars since they no longer have the 7.99 large deal cause now its 10.

We used to order an extra cheese pizza every Friday. Then one day I paid for extra cheese but didn’t get it. They had the audacity to tell me the extra cheese I’d paid for was there when it absolutely was not. We also ordered family pasta once a week until they suddenly cut the portion in half (charging the same of course). That did it for me.
Only it’s not I worked at both for a while and little ceasers product is cheap but made right it improves the basic 5. Most pizza huts use frozen pre made dough which saves money but If not poofed correctly the pizzas come out flat which is where the problem arises, sometimes you get busy and not prep enough and it stays busy so the pizza tastes wrong. They can’t prep too much because a lot of the time it’s slow. Pizza Hut don’t go cheap on ingredients.
It's sad to see that Pizza Hut is closing allot of their dine-in restaurants that many of us grew up with '70s-'90s. You used to see them everywhere. Now it's mainly take out or deliever
The decades-old dine-in location in my hometown recently closed altogether and it is so depressing. The local independent restaurants in the town are and have always been crap. I had friends in high school that worked there and I had countless great meals there with family and friends over the years. Got free personal pan pizzas for reading books in elementary school. Celebrated birthdays, graduations, etc. I know it's just an archaic chain restaurant to many, but it's almost like losing an old friend.
Pizza Hut was THE brand that got me salivating as a kid whenever I was craving for pizza. Their early commercials with the pan pizza cheese pulls will forever be iconic. But as I grew older, I cared less about the cheese alone and more about the bread and quality of ingredients. Especially when traditional Italian brick oven pizza became more mainstream. You can never really go back once you tried those superior pies.
I remember ordering a pizza at a Pizza Hut with literally 0 other people in the restaurant. After two hours of waiting, they apologized and said they couldn't make it (and didn't give a reason either, I literally ordered a personal pan cheese pizza). Never went to a pizza hut again.
I worked at Pizza Hut in college from 2013 through 2014 and while I was there they sold off the old dine in location and moved us into a strip mall with no dining area and instead invested in Wing Street (basically same quality as buffalo wild wings, just at Pizza Hut) and it was a dud. It was part of their rebranding, but it also killed off a lot of repeat customer. I used to know several of the people and families that would dine in at certain times and would just go ahead and make what they wanted so it would be at the buffet within minutes of them showing up and a lot of those people probably felt shafted when we moved.
Eliminating the buffet was a huge disappointment, the one near me had it every Friday night and we dined there about every Friday night, no mire buffet no more visits. They blamed the virus, yet you go to a market, and everyone has their hands on the products, so how the virus killed the buffet, which is not the reason just the excuse.
Another issue is quality control. In recent months, I've dealt with 2 different Huts. One couldn't get the pasta right & the other couldn't get the pizza or breadsticks right to save their lives. They really need to tighten up.
Why are they not mentioning the most obvious reason? its quality of the food. The cheese in their pizza tastes really artificial, and it wasn't always like that. Pizza Hut used to be good
I remember when you got a free pizza for doing book reports in elementary school, getting free PlayStation 1 demo game promotions, and collecting Star Wars Episode 1 toys. Times really have changed with the Hut.
The fact that they were able to talk this long without even considering maybe it's because their pizza is nasty suggests to me they don't get it at all
Dude, NEVER in these business decline videos do they EVER acknowledge the massive, pink elephant in the room. I saw one of these for Nissan the other day, and not once did they mention their horrible transmissions (you don’t have to know about cars, just humor me.) Everyone in the comment section was like WTF, we’re literally telling you one major issue!
@@JorgeCanovas it's not acknowledged because it has to be more of a quality control issue than a taste issue. I know plenty of people who hate Chipotle and yet despite that and the multiple E.coli scares, it still has strong numbers. Plenty of people say Dominoes pizza is the worse, for years, yet they dominate. Quality is not what's gonna save Pizza Hut it's pretty much everything else they mentioned
This is true. In the 80s-90 Pizza Hut was top tier and dominoes was gutter trash along with little caesars. From 2010-up until now, pizza greatly fell in terms of quality while dominos quality greatly increased. Little Caesar’s quality and innovations have improved the most. In my opinion they are best especially if you use the app to custom make your pizza and they give it to you fresh hot and ready. Instead of the ones that sit there for periods of time.
I still remember the one time my mom ordered me Pizza Hut way back during COVID I believe and they charged us for their cinnamon rolls and once she got there, somebody said "We don't have them available, but we'll give you store credit" and she declined that as we don't go down there very often. Pizza Hut refused even after she told the manager and they insisted that she ordered a charge back despite it costing them $25 to do so. They lost over $30 from the order and she ended up getting the tax money back on it as well!
this is from my country: 1- they increase prices on a monthly basis, last time, the pizza was like $28 delivered to ur house, and that is the large . 2- weird sizes , the large is more like the medium at other stores. 3- increase in price but decrease in quality . 4- they never bring back any items they used to sell and people loved. 5- very small variety , they keep taking out some fan favorites, if u go to pizza hut, u can choose the most normal things like supreme and pepperoni , the removed the meat feast and many others, end of the day, u can maybe choose from like 10 different pizzas and most are very samey to me. 6- they changed the cheese type 7- very oily pan pizza 9- they stopped their good offers like the $8 large with 1 topping. 10- the only thing keeping them afloat is BOGO TUESDAY, where u buy 1 large and get the other free and u still feel ripped off.
@@SilveryBlue1010 Unfortunately it just depends on who is working at the time. It was actually perfectly baked not dark or too light. The pizza rose and set well so it was nice and even, no air bubbles, it had enough cheese that you couldn't see the sauce but wasn't drowned in cheese, and it actually had an adequate amount of toppings. It was literally the first time in my adult life I saw a pizza from my pizza hut that actually looked how they look in the commercials it was kind of weird, oh and it wasn't drowning in oil. Delivery fees are outrageous. I worked for Dominos 10 yrs ago as a driver and hated it when they added a delivery fee. It took away from our tip and out if people's pockets .
Dominos has better crust honestly and I personally think that makes all the difference when it comes to the pizza. I’ll admit that I miss the old hut style Restaurants that they used to have. They always felt so welcoming and warm, especially in the winter where they would turn on their giant furnace that was located near the center. I always enjoyed sitting near it.
I"m a papa john's employee who left for 3 years and recently came back to PJ's. The changes to papa john's menu are great. The addition of the papadia, the removal of the pan pizza, the addition of the epic stuffed crust pizza. They have also changed many of specialty pizzas they used to offer. The specialty pizzas don't really add anything from the previous specialty pizzas but the stuffed crust is a winner, the papadias are great- I would change the default toppings on some of them though...

Totally agree! You can tell just by looking at the older commercials they showed, especially the ones from the 80s. The cheese and topping quality has declined drastically. My husband and I were telling our kids about when we were kids, even leftover Pizza Hut was still good. Not anymore! Now 2 hours later the meat is shriveled up and if you didn't order extra cheese, you may as well throw it away.

Pizza Hut thought they could cut corners by using frozen dough and precut veggies and the customers could instantly see right through it. They really thought that they could reduce labor costs while still keeping the prices high and that turned the customers off. Compared to Dominoes where they ran they ad campaign to change the ingredients of their pizza to win critics back, Pizza Hut did the opposite. Short answer: declining product quality, increasing prices. They literally ship frozen dough discs to their chains and add toppings. Pizzas aren’t even made on site.

@@savannahcraven5093 I don't know. Honestly couldn't tell you.
It's simple: Quality went down as prices went way up. That's a business killer.
Their coffin was closing down stand alone brick and mortar restaurants that had old seasoned ovens and the staff that knew how to make a good pizza. Then they replace it with small carryout only hubs located in shopping centers usually. They try to force you to order online and use a credit/debit card to pay. The well over 40 crowd (myself included) still picks up a telephone and calls paying cash for things under about $50. It's all you "technical" and younger people screwing things up because you don't carry even $20 bucks in your wallet. That 3% card processing fee and renting the machine costs EVERYBODY more. I thought your mama raised all of you better than that. In order to keep the bottom line down and prices low you have to eat at a regular restaurant or carryout from one and pay cash.
Pizza Hut’s food quality went down hill over the years
Yup and it’s also quite expensive compared to it’s peers, especially Dominos and Little Caesars, as well as local mom and pop shops.
but why in my country Pizza Hut is still the highest and it keeps growing
Actually, I don't think their quality went down, it just stayed the same as it was back in the '70s, '80s, and '90s when there was much less competition and peoples' expectations were lower. You can't keep selling the same pizza in 2020 that you did in 1985. People expect better quality now than they used to.

They DID have a period under Pepsi when they ALL got good, but then Pepsi spun then (and KFC and Taco Hell) off into TriCorp and they've never really recovered.'

Domino's really improved the quality of their pizza, and it shows.
Agreed my favorite pizza chain....
Havent eaten it for over 5 years but I just remember it as being a lot of dough and it would always give me heartburn after.

6- they changed the cheese type
7- very oily pan pizza
9- they stopped their good offers like the $8 large with 1 topping.
10- the only thing keeping them afloat is BOGO TUESDAY, where u buy 1 large and get the other free and u still feel ripped off.

Funny thing is it did nothing for them. Now Chick-Fila-a on the other hand? They are not greedy. They try to do one thing right and close on Sunday. That is exactly why they are the most successful chain in the U.S.
McDonald's is most successful
Nobody outside US cares about Fill-a, most doesnt even know it.
They did it
They facking did it
They... Outpizza the hut
The last time I dined inside a Pizza Hut was when I was a kid in the 90’s. Who dines in at a Pizza Hut now a days? 😂
I dined at pizza hut with my family during 2010s when going to a theme park but they were usually pretty empty
With that wack ass buffet they offer
I sat in a pizza hut waiting for an hr for my carryout pizza. Does that count? But i ended up with someone else's pizza 🤣
In store was the only way my family would eat Pizza hut. We loved their lunch buffet. When they closed down their in store dining we never ate their again.
@@suneyeintuition4315 a few years back I was working at a butcher shop and a pizza hut Express opened up across the street, online or phone orders only, no pickup orders, delivery only.
I can tell you that between me and my coworkers at the butcher shop and the staff from the grocery store next door, that pizza hut could have been the most profitable store in the area if they did pickup orders and pizza by the slice.
Two high schools nearby and we'd get slammed at the deli for lunch, I imagine high school kids would rather spend less money and time getting a slice and a pop
Number one problem is their delivery zones. I’ve lived in two apartment complexes near other apartment complexes, yet there are no Pizza Huts in sight that deliver to us. I love Pizza Hut, but they’re missing out on a lot of customers, imo.
Cause it sucks? Same for Burger King. So much potential but they’re ran like sh*t. Shame

I remember going to a few birthday parties in the 90s at Pizza Hut. The pizza, those red cups, the best back then. Haven’t seen a Pizza Hut near me in for a good 15 years
you're telling me that the hut has been out pizza'd?
No, because you can't out pizza the hut.
Quit making the pizzas smaller. A large is the size of a medium from the 90"s
LOL. Sad.
For 5 years I worked at Dominos. Now I work at Pizza Hut. One thing I can say, is the way Pizza Hut operates is so much more complicated. They need twice as many people on staff to handle less sales than Dominos. 😂
I swear their pizzas are different than the ones they used to put out over 20 years ago. It's not made as well. The sauce is different for sure.
Nah. It’s the same. Everyone else just got better.

@Michael Sink lol
The tomato were very herby back then right? Tasted so good
I know so, you remember I can't remember the name of it, can't look it up either? They need to bring it back, it was like a pizza pie in a deep dish? "Hell the ones who invented the Pizza Hut, probably are not the owners anymore?"
Showing your age😜but I agree because my family had the Pizza Hut following
The last time I had Pizza Hut me and my 3 kids ordered 2 large stuffed crusts to share and 2 garlic bread with cheese plus drinks. The pizza was so paper thin I thought I ordered the wrong one. We came out still hungry and almost £80 lighter, never again.
If they lower their prices. They would sale more. And that would make up for their lose.
PIzza Hut tastes stale and dry, so it wouldn't help....
Sell * not sale
It wouldn’t we barely make money with our current prices. Source: I work there
@@brendanberto-jones3352 The price should match the quality/quantity of the pizza, the price is matching other premium pizza restaurants that are willing to slash prices and or offer a tad bit more than what Pizza Hut is. I'm not saying I don't enjoy Pizza Hut, sometimes I do, but when I'm paying 30-40 bucks on a meal I know there are other better options available for me to choose from, I am going with those options. I worked at Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and Dominoes. All just on weekends part time. I would NEVER eat at pizza hut. They were the least clean and treated their employees horribly, which explains the bad customer service. I only worked Sundays. I felt so bad for the people working there full time.
If Pizza Hut wants to be back on top, they need to go back to where they used to be where they used fresh dough and spend more on ingredients and then run an ad campaign to get their customers back.
pizza's not for a out dining anymore . it's more like a quick meal when lazy to cook or something
I agree with you there! I am guilty of that.

This! I remember eating the pan pizzas in the 90s and they were good (greasy, but tasty). Now, even if you tell them to make it well done with just 3 toppings it still comes out as gooey or raw dough in the center. They're selling pizzas and don't know how to cook them.

They opened a new store nearby so we tried it for the first time in years. Bad crust, meh sauce, meh cheese, and very little toppings and flavors. Very clear why they're doing poorly.
Edit: and it was more expensive than the same pizza at Domino's, even using a coupon.
They changed their recipe in May of 2019. There is no flavor anymore.

Spell things however you want, I know you guys spell it flavour and I don't care if you spell it that way at all.
But getting up on your high horse and acting like you speak the "correct" dialect of english just cause you live in the country it originated in. If you wanna go by that metric start speaking old english.
@UCUNCTgAdlpjWLzKOHK3Fe2w I called you a derogative name for claiming you spell your words right. There is no correct spelling except that that a large enough people agree is correct. Both ways are correct.
And that is not how language works. It doesn't matter where it originated, it matters where it is spoken. No one has claim to language.
Pizza Hut is only good when the pizza is hot, it doesn't taste so good when it gets cold. You really need to sit in the restaurant to experience it properly. Plus it's over-priced. Way easier to pick up Little Caesars at a fraction of the price, tastes great fresh, and tastes great when re-heated too.
Anyone else remembered when PizzaHut's cheese suddenly stopped tasting like cheese?
Yes, that what we were saying
Ahhhh

Pizza Hut was awesome in the 80s and 90s. Now it's a sad version of what it once was.
Very sad 😢
The last time I dealt with Pizza Hut was when I wanted to try their wing street wings. I ordered well ahead in time so I could pick them up and head to work (worked graveyard). I wound up waiting a additional 25 minutes because they couldn't find the damn order. People that came in after me ordered and got their order filled and left while I still waited. At the end I got something that kind of resembled wings, had no flavor, and was almost late to work.
I can't even fathom how bad their pizza is.
It’s simple. Bring back the $10 any size any topping pizza deal 🤷🏻♂️
They advertised a 10 doller daily pizza. But my location didn't have it. Haha

Why did pizza hut fall behind? Terrible service and dirty restaurants. I would sometimes go to pizza hut for the lunch buffet that was suppose to start at 12 noon. Food was not put out until 10 - 15 minutes after 12. This left me with just a few minutes to eat than rush back to work. Tables were almost always dirty. Poor selections on the buffet. I eventually stopped going there. What's sad, there is a very clear disconnect from what the video is saying and what people are posting in the comments.
