One time when I was in community college, I went to lunch at a Burger King near campus, but I went inside. My change was a little less than $5 but the cashier gave me $5 even to simplify things. They even held my dessert until was through with the rest of my meal. I went to that BK again last week and all the employees had masks and gloves. IIRC there was also a plastic or Plexiglas screen in front of the drive thru window. Some of the best fast food service I've ever had, and I'm glad to see that it's still as good as it was back then.

Short change artists can pocket & extra $100-$200 a day & its the perfect setup--if they get caught shortchanging, they CLAIM it was a "mistake". Funny thing is, if it were a "mistake" as they claim, you'd get back too much roughly half the time--but you are almost ALWAYS shorted so there is NO "mistake".

Then again, I don't go there often and usually pick somewhere else, so maybe that biases my experience. Dont get me wrong, a lot of it is on the people who eat terribly with little to no exercise, but the govt and the economy profited and exploited, and doesn't properly and persistently warn or ban such ingredients or foods, if we get past this age of fast food, we'd realize we need better healthier food and make the economy adapt to our needs as to what it is now, which is just shoving and promoting unhealthy foods while they profit exponentially, whilst just about ALL fast food workers are paid little, workers and service people should be paid well, while professional athletes should be paid not as well as they are

FUN FACT: digital “menus” make you spend more by using videos/moving images. The combination of your eyes not having enough time to see the tiny price print and only the bigger picture of the food + the feeling of having limited time to order makes you make a decision not considering the price.

People stuffing their face with fried foods and some of them are here 3-4 times a week sometimes! Going out to eat become less of a “treat” for the family and simply something people rely on now. End of a shift I don’t even want a burger, I want some fresh fruit and maybe some veggies and hummus and I’m a huge meat eater.

@@Imnotfatimhibernatin You are absolutely right. Fortunately, my mom prepared home cooked meals every day. Looking back, I definitely appreciate what she did, despite having a full-time job. We perceived take out as junk food. Therefore, it has alway been viewed as a "treat" we get every once-in-a-while. Literally, I can count on one hand how many times my mom brought us junk food as a kid (minus parties). Culturally, we've substituted junk food as our main source of nourishment. Anything that's quick, that's what we get. This change in lifestyle, plus our sedentary jobs, makes us massive.

I actually noticed myself using drive thrus less over the years for this very reason. When a single order at mcdonalds takes 10 minutes to get in to my hand, I'm just wasting my time. I've started to notice if I go inside and order, I get my food before a single drive thru order is pumped out. It's FAST FOOD, I could care less about the customer experience, or the cleanliness?(idk how a clean drive thru effects my overall satisfaction) the only thing that matters is the accuracy and the speed.

FUN FACT: McDonalds’s first Drive-Thru was built in Sierra Vista, Arizona and is still there even though it was recently remodeled. The idea for McDonald’s to start adding Drive-Thru’s actually came from the location in Sierra Vista because of employees at the close by Fort Huachuca Army Base. So if anyone thought they did it because of competition, nope they did it cause at the time soldiers were apparently not allowed to go inside anywhere outside of the base while wearing their uniforms. A few years after the first McDonald’s Drive-Thru it became more about competition & popularity rather then having a way for those who served in the military at the time be able to get fast food. I have personally been to that location many times but don’t go there every time I go to McDonald’s because I don’t live in the area of the first one.

She was so focused on the phone call that she forgot to pick up the food on the other window and she left without realizing she left the food. When her call ended, she was looking for the food until she realized what happened. She wasn’t mad tho she was laughing so she went back to the McDonald’s. If you aren't sure what you want, or even just the certain stupid name(mc,whopper, quarter pounder, etc), Or you actually just want to scan the menu it can get stressful. You want to read all the stuff, which is poorly arranged and lit awkardly, and do so in a timely matter to be respectful of others.
Then you finally start to order and a giant douchy truck pulls up way to close to you with an extremely loud exhaust spewing smoke at nauseating levels while at the same time you're trying to place your order but the speaker/mic sucks so you have to repeat your order several times in a loud, yelling like matter, just for some employee who doesn't care because he knows youll drive off and is getting paid crap so he puts no pride in it will give you the wrong order.
Thats not including the douchy trucks revving their engines and stopping last second behind you everytime you stop at each thing.(intercom, pay window, food window)

If only they could enlarge the menu and place it on a post outside of the vehicle so everyone can see it at once and not have to pass it around the inside of the car. That may also help to speed up service. I sat yesterday eating lunch at a different restaurant and timed a Chic-fil-a drive through. A double drive thru. Still took 13 minutes from start to finish for each car. They just break up your wait time by having you interact with an employee 3-4 times for something before you get your food and are able to eat your plain chicken sandwich with two soggy pickles. I guess if I had to wait 10-13 minutes to get a old sandwich (placed in a foil bag made 3 hours ago) I would tell everyone it was the best and worth the money and wait. But I guess if I really think about it, it is not the bread, meat and pickles alone you are paying for. It is also the smile you are paying for. For some people that IS worth the money and time.

Automtion has already beat the best of us, and the only thing which we have a sad advantage over them is utilizing our own body in a good enough way. Exemple dexterity. This will put most in demand jobs into those that are popular n not meant to have hundreds of millions. You can name a few good therapists, and philosophers, but these jobs arent something the mass majority will be ok with doing. You might think your a special snowflake n ur job is safe for 30 yrs, but ur employer wants cheaper, since he cant break labor laws with u, he will go to a machine that he can make do work for only the electric it uses. A machine that will work 24,7 365 takes no time off, no breaks, doesnt make mistakes or slows down. if u think its not so ,ask any car insurance company what is the perfect customer. They all will tell you, its a customer that pays thier premiums on times and has 0 accidents. Pretty much they make money n do 0 work. The ultimate entitled job. The drive-thru isn't the problem, urban planning is, and you touched on that briefly. One major thing that would reduce the need/desire for drive-thus is density. People are never to stop eating fast food completely, but cities and countries with higher density have lower rates of obesity, people who live in urban areas tend to be healthier as adults, etc.
Plus- I think we need to adopt a model more like Japan, where you can walk into any 7-11 and get a well balanced meal for the price of a McDonalds meal, like a rice dish with a piece of fish and a side dish. Like actually making real food affordable, rather than leaving people who are in a rush/poor/without options left with nothing but fatty and crappy burgers to eat.

DoorDash is dangerous to my credit card. I can order breakfast from McDonalds while still in bed. I usually miss breakfast if I have to get up n drive to pick it up myself.

Fast food drive thrus didn't exclusively originate in California. While it's true that In-N-Out was one of the first to utilize it, there was another fast food outlet in Missouri that was also an early adopter of the concept. The restaurant was called Red's Giant Hamburg and was located on Route 66 (yes, that Route 66) in Springfield. It opened in 1947 and closed in the 80s when the couple who owned the business retired; the building was demolished in 1997 but just last year a local restaurant owner reopened the business in a replica of the old building.
Also, I was born in the 90s and distinctly remember many cars from that time not having cupholders. In fact, cars with cupholders were a novelty to me, and I thought it was cool because it meant you no longer had to hold the cup between your legs and risk spills if the car suddenly has to brake.

Crypt Keeper yes and no I guess. Americans eat at McDonald’s to get fat lol while Canadians go there to spend some family time and trust me a full meal (menu) in canada is way more expensive . And the food is way better. We Americans get the junk version while the rest of the world gets the good food
