Nice John!! I have the IX20SE and would love to see a little clearer on the radio what you did if possible. This makes plenty of sense, and much easier than trying to do in the table. Thanks 👊🏼
Thanks Jeff, I suppose I should redo it showing the radio, I figured those with other brands would be able to follow along and find the menus, I think futaba and others have flight modes or conditions as well!
If it works for you. I think I'll stick with the standard way of doing things, no need to reinvent the wheel and no need to tell me I'm doing it wrong.
The only issue I have with flight modes is that when I set my DX9 to use them they would snap and not move at a slow speed. Had them on my F-5 and took it off for that reason. Maybe the higher end radios allow for a slow speed transition??
The flap speeds have been adjustable on all mine. Even my 20+ year old radios. But yes. The elevator does move normal speed at all times. But it’s not too noticeable. Still better than guessing setups on the bench :)
I dont know about the nx radoos, but the ix20 has sequencers you can use to slow down the movement. I havent done it with flight modes, but maybe it could work
yes, ofcourse, you tell the trims to stick to each flight mode, so each flap position/flight mode you can trim in flight and those trims stay with that flap setting.
A video for all you people with $2000 radios who already know what flight modes are. Sorry John, I didnt understand any of that. Not even a little. I just set up my flaps in the flaps menu, thats what its for.
@@snoriverrc3842 Sure did, guess you missed it. The first part of the video I explain it pretty clearly.. No more of the ground guessing BS of percentages of what and what way, plus you can trim the ailerons at the same time in flight for each flap setting, its pretty awesome and so easy!
dude, I just saw the craziest thing ever, the review on the air wall climbing spider from your channel, I randomly found this and I live in wa, by chance was that video filmed at isom elementary? I’m in 9th grade and went there…
From my experience.. for the maiden flight , I recommend only setting the elevator to the flaps trim flight mode .. it can get hectic on a maiden if you have to trim the plane 3 times for 3 control surfaces .. this way you only have to worry about elevator trim, once you get elevator trim dialed in , then you can add the rest of the trim flight modes if needed
I guess. But it’s better than having to make 3+ separate flights with an out of trim plane dialing I guesses. Honestly. If trimming in a plane is that hectic. Probably should get more comfy with trainers.
Flight modes are definitely the way to go. I started with planes 30 years ago with basic non-computer radios. Around 20 years ago I got into helicopters as well, got my first computer radio and discovered flight modes. An absolute must with helis and a total game changer with fixed wing. Pretty much every computer radio from every manufacturer within the past 3 decades has flight modes. Read your manuals people. Take the time to learn the operating system and play with your radios programming functions. You'd be surprised what even the most basic systems are capable of these days.
1. I’ve been putting my transmitter’s flight modes on the flap switch (D) for a few years. I only enable aileron and elevator trim. Some like to include the rudder. Having the separate aileron trims lets you tune out any turning tendencies due differences in the flap deflection. Since the flaps only use one channel, you can’t match them exactly. 2. Some think you must use the transmitter’s flights modes to control the receiver’s flight modes. This is not true; you simply need to assign a switch to the receiver’s flight modes channel. 3. Your videos would be much better if you connect your transmitter to your computer’s USB port and use “scrcpy” to display your transmitter’s screen on your computer.
Yeah, I know seeing the screen may make it easier if someone has an IX radio, but in all reality, anyone can look in their radio and find the flight modes option.. If they want to, its so easy!
John I couldn't agree more this is definitely the way to set up a plane. I think most of these guy's are getting confused since you are doing it with the ix 20. Let's get together and we can use my mx 8 to show what you're doing as you know its totally different from the ix platform. And maybe use a model that is newer I've got a few. And show them how it's actually working on the model itself as your trimming thing's. We could call it a collaboration 😅😅
Using trims in the flap settings did not change the trims on the specific flap setting, it affected the trims even after switching the flaperons from on setting to the next. Am I missing something?
@@titusandrew946 did you tell the radio that the trims change with the flight modes? Go into the trim page and select flight mode for the elevator and aileron.
Seems like a great idea. But I'm not getting it. Then again, I've watched that video on how to fold a tee shirt in one move and can't replicate that either. 🤣 I'll take a look at that option on my Radiomaster Zorro. My NX10 is going back. Even though it has been out for years, unbeknown to me, it needed a firmware update out of the box when I got it 6 months ago. It wouldn't connect to WiFi, but I didn't really care at the time. Now, it's not always working with the Telemetry. And that is a problem. According to HH support, a firmware update cannot be accomplished on a Mac! So the old DX6 will be my final Spektrum radio. $550 and half-baked!?! Nice of them to offer a return. Never again.
