using the can as a mold is a great hack. Dedicated molds/presses can be readily found online or asian grocers too. The ones i've always used are sized to be about right for a full sheet of nori.
In the west, Spam is often thought of as a low-class, unhealthy 'poor person' food. Which is hilarious because 1. Spam has less than 10 ingredients and is made of a single cut of pork 2. Spam is pretty expensive for what you get now and 3. People who knock Spam don't have the same ire for Cheetos, fast food, instant ramen or hot dogs, which are even more processed, junkier foods. Spam isn't a health food, ofc, but it's totally fine in moderation and sodium content aside, can easily fit into a healthy diet.
Do you live in Southeast Asia? Because same here, SPAM/meat luncheon is EXPENSIVE. It costs like 2 USD for one can, meanwhile for that same cost I can get one kilogram of chicken...
I'm 65, I grew up with Spam being a staple here in the UK. We used to have it sliced cold with salads or fried with egg and chips for tea. When I had kids of my own it was great for fried rice type meals, and when we went camping we'd use it instead of bacon to fry for breakfast.
I always wanted to try spam and noodles but I haven't tried it yet. My mom makes me a special dish tho that is very yummy. Think of it like fried rice, except the only thing in it is rice, spam, and egg.
I grew up on spamusubi, my grandma would always have a special tray of them just for me when we’d eat bc id get so excited - it feels like a staple japanese american food for me

Texan and fellow SPAM lover here. Showcase the Hawaiian Loco Moco! Had to spend way to long on Oahu but loved the local dishes. That is one of my favorites.
Typically, the mold is helpful because it allows you to properly shape the rice without using up things like clingwrap. The normal method is to put some of the sauce and the furikake between the meat and the rice so your hands don't get excessively dirty while eating. I would say that there's a bit too much rice as well and having 2/3 or 1/2 the rice per musubi will reduce how much rice you go through for each batch. I would also pre-mix the sauce so it's more homogenous and that way I have some on hand later for both adhering the seaweed and dropping a bit on top of the molded rice. It's worth noting that the spam cutter and musubi mold are small and very inexpensive. These tools help a lot in portion control and assist in keeping your prep consistent.
What do you mean homeless food ... spam has been around a long time , I think since World War II or even before that . We had it regularly in my home when I was growing up in the sixties and seventies but I hated it because I don't like ham at all .

I love spam. We have a thing here called "Broodje Marinier", which is diced spam, baked in a wok with diced onions, you add chili sauce and kecap to it, mix it until the sauce and kecap coats every surface of the spam, put it on a bun, bam, sandwich.
