I think to get rid of the bitterness of dandelions you might need to soak em in cold water a few times, or cook them before adding them to the soup. Also chopping them up would probably help in blending them. apparently they're also a lot less bitter when they are harvested before they flower
Dandelion flowers are also edible. They would make the soup yellow, floral, slightly sweet, and not bitter at all. so maybe that's what the game is going for.
As a canadian who grew up on dandelion, I would have worked with it very differently. It should have been chopped fairly small before adding, and i would have upped the salt, given the soup a bit of acid, hit it with a small amount of something sweet ie maple syrup and then maybe slightly blend. I would have also left out the stem part of the leaves, as it has the bitter white stuff in it.

Maybe if I eat it with berries, the bitter might pretty much disappear like when I eat yarrow, but dandelion is a lot more bitter than yarrow. I'll stick with using the flowers in wines and the roots for coffee.
as an expert dandelion eater I can tell you the reason the dandelion soup was bitter was because you included the stem bit in the middle of the leaves, any part that is hollow (and therefore contains the sap) will be bitter
I'd think a simple cream of mushroom soup would make more sense for Mushroom Soup. A milk based soup would also have some ressonance with how you can milk Mooshrooms. You can use various kinds of nut-milk too to get around the whole lactose intolerance issue.

You probably would've been better off using the actual flower instead of the dandelion leaves lolol, younger leaves are less bitter, the ones you used were quite old and therefore, quite yuck. You can actually eat the entire dandelion plant, roots and all! The flowers of dandelion are used in teas as well. With the big leaves the best thing to do is cut them into like 2cm chunks and blanching them to help get rid of the bitterness, though I've personally tried this only once and was very dissapointed, I don't think I did it long enough :( Regardless, AMAZING VIDEO! You should definitely try this again to see if you can improve the results, of course at a later date. :)
@@soupforeloise also when trying to remove bitterness from plants, you usually need to do so in water you're planting to discard, otherwise the bitterness just stays in the broth
I was gonna say the same thing! Also when I saw that I had to rewatch it because I don't remember her giving anything a score of 6. She gave a 7, 5, 0, and 9. So the total of 21 is actually correct but the ratings on the total screen are lifted from somewhere else
dandelions are a pretty bitter plant, especially in the leaves. its so bitter that you can make a drink that tastes like coffee from the roots. younger sprouts are less bitter, and you can soak the older leaves in salt water for a few hours to leach them. this soup with leached greens and garnished with flowers, maybe with a cream to it, would proably be delicious.
My gay and semifashionable self is mostly watching for the lovely outfits. Style and grace! Although as a wannabe home chef, I was conflicted about the preparation of the soups lol.
Fun fact about dandelions the entire plant is edible! The young leaves and flowers can be eaten raw otherwise the bitterness needs to be cooked out of them(probably why it tasted so horrid), And The Roots can be roasted for a coffee substitute!
I'm the guy who suggested the cooking show series, i have more to say and you might like it now. what about food from different games? I like the cooking idea with friends, it would be so fun and The cooking show with friends with different segments, 1st the shopping segments for ingredients, then the cooking bit, then the tasting bit with other people judging. It would be like a contest who will cook better. I know it can be repetitive but at least give us 10 episodes of cooking with friends 😭.What you think?
When anyone mentions making video game foods, I think of DougDoug and Polygon making Zelda: BOTW foods. Which was absolute chaos and definitely not how it should have been made.
So fun fact! Dandelion leaves get more bitter the more they grow, so thats why for a soup like this you would try to get very young and small leaves 😅 (would probably be easier to blend too)
Tip for dandelion leaves-- you really only want to cook with the young fresh leaves. The older/bigger the leaves are, the more bitter ;) The only effect that soup is really going to have irl is flushing all your body liquids; great to reduce swelling on arthritic joints but you'll pee like a racehorse so don't consume if you're dehydrated.
Yeah, up until now i never questioned the idea of finding soup in the wild. Minecraft is basically postapocaliptic game, which means that soup might be older than Steve by that point

Bro what is that maths???
6 + 6 + 3 + 10 = 36
But then a few minutes later
6 + 6 + 3 + 10 = 29
What ????
Thank you, i too was confused
i thought the same thing
You forgot the 6 + 6 + 3 + 10 = 21
6 6 3 10 is representative of the ‘calculation is happening’, the final number is the only important one
likely her editor buggered up the overlay an got lazy
This video was souper.
Yipppeeee
"My thoughts are-*YT smash cuts to a Heinz soup ad*. Genuinely fucking hilarious
if soupforeloise makes a video where she makes soup for eloise you simply cannot skip it, thats the rules
THEMS THE RULES
8:32 I need to see proof that the bunny is okay.
Whenever I've seen dandelions in food that are added raw, it's usually the flowers. Leaves probably need specific pickings.
They were boiled in the soup for a good while to be fair! I think they were just too large as large = bitter!
@@soupforeloise also when trying to remove bitterness from plants, you usually need to do so in water you're planting to discard, otherwise the bitterness just stays in the broth
Your wooden guitar spoon is awesome!
Thank you my mum got it for me hahaha
4:30 6+6+3+10=25 not 21
I was gonna say the same thing!
Also when I saw that I had to rewatch it because I don't remember her giving anything a score of 6.
She gave a 7, 5, 0, and 9. So the total of 21 is actually correct but the ratings on the total screen are lifted from somewhere else
@@marksmithwas12 ahh ok
dandelions are a pretty bitter plant, especially in the leaves. its so bitter that you can make a drink that tastes like coffee from the roots. younger sprouts are less bitter, and you can soak the older leaves in salt water for a few hours to leach them. this soup with leached greens and garnished with flowers, maybe with a cream to it, would proably be delicious.
the suspicious stew is really living up to its name. Will it satiate your hunger? sure, but at what cost
My gay and semifashionable self is mostly watching for the lovely outfits. Style and grace! Although as a wannabe home chef, I was conflicted about the preparation of the soups lol.
I always thought the mushroom soup was just canned *cream of mushroom* soup, which is about the exact same pinkish hue as the one in-game 😂
Fun fact about dandelions the entire plant is edible!
The young leaves and flowers can be eaten raw otherwise the bitterness needs to be cooked out of them(probably why it tasted so horrid),
And The Roots can be roasted for a coffee substitute!
Dandelion leaves get more bitter the more they grow, so thats why for a soup like this you would try to get very young and small leaves 😅 (would probably be easier to blend too)
Your dandelions were too old - you need the really young, bright green leaves
Tip for dandelion leaves-- you really only want to cook with the young fresh leaves. The older/bigger the leaves are, the more bitter ;)
The only effect that soup is really going to have irl is flushing all your body liquids; great to reduce swelling on arthritic joints but you'll pee like a racehorse so don't consume if you're dehydrated.
love this sort of content, also i see your guitar wooden spoon and i actually love that so much
shout out to my mum for getting me that
@@soupforeloise so cute
shades of bdg. love it
The 1st soup just lacks water
edit: most of the soups just lacked water to be slurpable ;-;
Yeah, up until now i never questioned the idea of finding soup in the wild. Minecraft is basically postapocaliptic game, which means that soup might be older than Steve by that point
11:41 math is mathing 🥲🫡
this is the kind of videos I want in my homepage youtube, please.
