No experience to be an unarmed security officer is $20 for 12 he shifts with OT. But no retirement, no benefits, and it’s awful.

The wages are much higher today for unarmed. Just have to fish around for right company.
Listen. This is misleading about $20. People that stick with this industry, eventually make a lot of money. Some people get to point where they make $1000 per day, know how to invest in petro products and stocks. Some people work 6 months straight and take 6months off.
Came here about the oilfield. But as a past communications students, this reporter is great; great tone, great personality. Loved it.
honestly if I didn't farm I'd do something like this honest folk trying to make something out of themselves and you get to work out on the ocean
In the 90s you could do that catching & processing pollock on the Bering Sea. But as companies bought one-another out, crewmembers lost much of their ability to choose a better paying boat once in Dutch Harbor.

1. Associate Degree in Data Science (2100 hours).
2. Associate Degree in Mechanical Manufacturing (2700 hours).
3. Associate Degree in Industrial Mechatronics (2700 hours).
4. I only have 3 semesters left until I get my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (4700 hours).
5. Specialization in Welding Engineering (370 hours).
6. Specialization in Pipeline Engineering (400 hours).
7. Specialization in Engineering of offshore oil and gas structures (360 hours).
What position or positions am I eligible for in your country and what is the average salary should I request?

You're going to have hard time to get your certifications/validations ( almost impossible ), Try get job in "services" company first, they do third party job for the big oil holdings . You will need basic at first CDL/fork lift, CW, OSHA 40, ect... if you're really recent graduate there's zero chances of you have that many hours in real practice. No experience $120k Canadian dollars.
I have two kids and live in South Carolina do you think it is a way they can help me find housing for me and my children so that I can go to lone Star college?

We get paid $40 per hour start here in Canada, and you get mid pay daily and LOA pay daily as well as lots of time and half overtime hours. So you make great money

There’s different types of rigs jobs they also hire welders to fix oil pipelines
1978 I was 17 got on with a rig floor hand 20 months moved to derrickman , stayed with the driller for 8 years , he ended up becoming my brother in law , age 20 I went to drilling 1 year but drilling was not for me I like being in the Derrick , stayed a derrickman the rest of the time i worked on the rig , by 1986 oil field was so slow are rig was stacked in the yard . Back in 1982 they started up a program teaching guys how to become a roughneck , its a Joke . they have no idea what its like to Move the Rig spud in, run casing wait on cement , drill to bottom hole lay down , or change bits , trip for a bit cone , redrill for a cavin . the class with teach a basic tongue and chain hand . when a boom hits just show up at a gas station with a bag of clothing and good boots . a driller will be looking for worms.

I agree, a start in work with no experience is the fastest way to learn laborious skills. You either fly or fall; trial and error.

20 dollars an hour? I wouldn't step foot on the rig for 20 an hour lmfl.
That's should be between $3000-$4000 take-home pay after two weeks on the rig with two weeks off. You should be able to tuck away a few hundred in stock-option purchases also each month which would add up after a few years.
12-hour shifts what's $240 a day no place to spend your money so the housing is free you save all your money

Take my advice don’t go near the oil field ever. I got in it out of high school pays good for a while but it’s boom and bust it always has been there’s a few that make it and get into upper management but for the most part it’s not good career it makes your life weird too I worked in it for 27 years i’m 62 now and I wish I never saw a rig

Let me give you a suggestion, if you want a lot of money and top notch health benefits with eventually 7 weeks of paid vacation, sign up to be a UPS driver. They retire millionaires with a $5,000/month pension. Within 4 years you'll be making 100k+ per year. In 2 years you'll be making 80k per year. If you get in now you'll retire at 50 and literally be rich. Fair warning, it's a lot of work and long hours, but it pays very well.. I wish I wouldn't have left, but at least with FedEx I get home at a decent time

$20 per hour? HA! Who’s dumb enough to give up their home life for that? BNSF, Union Pacific, Ingram Barge Co., almost every coal or limestone mine, Robinson Construction, Kirby Inland Marine... I could keep going. All of those companies either pay the same or more than that and they’re half the work, safer environments, and you can have a life outside of work. I’ve worked on 3 oil rigs and believe me when I tell you that’s not what you want to do. Leave oil rigs as a last resort if you can’t find anything else.
True I am a city employee and I make almost $40 an hour and I don’t do half the work they do.

They do the background checks and that takes one month, before they will let you start.

Um 20 an hour this must be American dafuq its 39.50 as a floorhand in Canada atleast last job I seen for Akita in Alberta shows 39.50 that's not with O.T. which would bring it to 59.50$ an hour after OT 60+ hours a week , do the math lol I wouldn't mind working on a ground rig lol signing up for Akita in like 5 months from now hope I get in I wouldn't mind doing 72+ hours a week sign me up Monday to Sunday 14 hours a day im down

Was well paid 60’s - 80’s dwindling production & far too many people chasing too few jobs. World wide, supervisors tend to be Europeans or North Americans, doing the work TWN’s the cheapest of labour oil companies can find. The majority of personnel are short term contractors, so no benefits hire & fire. Oil & gas has never given anything away ‘don’t expect too much and you will never be disappointed’.

If they get paid 5 grand a week on the ship for 3 months str8 that's 60 thousand the average person don't make 40 thousand dollars a year that's not a hard decision but they go for alot of convicted felons because they can stay in a secluded place for a long period of time yes I did my homework it's just hard to leave everything behind and go.

Serious question from a american-german: Why does someone get into a job in the oil-industry nowadays with outdated fossil fuels declining rapidly? It´s really interresting! Don´t you believe that in at least 10 years you will bitching around about loosing your job? Why don´t get a job at a more modern industry which will be there until u retire?
