That guy on the ship was down to business
Could have been a bit nicer though
@@TheStripedShirtGuy bruv have you met a sailor before? or an oil rig worker? that's the nicest guy on the rig guaranteed
He has a very dangerous job the person that said he is on 275,000 a year is wrong he may be on about 50000dollars a year if that. He conducted himself as advised when dealing with non crew members and the media.
It's no laughing matter
David Perry nearly everyone on the rig is making at least 100k a year. The more specialized positions get closer to 250k. Source: my dad works on rigs
i love how his helmet says “Richard Hammond” its like a gamer tag lol
Wow, a funny RUclips comment. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
thanks doc
its a warning lol
It’s a target
n/a ok boomer
It's like watching Michael Scott and darryl from the office
in real life 🤦
"just stay outta my way man"
that's what she said
Who and who
Google and Google is what he said....
Love Damiens response to Richard asking to help, 100% straight up no bs.
More like straight up rude
@@realkilju No he was being professional. Its extremely dangerous work and the ship is on the clock. Letting Hammond board the ship alone was generous of the ship's crew.
Right that's who I want in charge of my food delivery in the middle of no where
Hammond :"control the oil rig for one day"
Oil stocks :"mayday mayday we going down"
its a ship, not a plane :-)
ha ha
NDABE ZITHA he means the stock prices lol
NDABE ZITHA r/whoosh

Richard was kinda sad that he didn't get to do any work on that ship lol
I don’t blame him... he literally went on it, got rejected by the crew guy and then just watched and went off
The guy must've been a fan of Top Gear and saw how Hammond has crashed things. I dont feel bad at all. Risking your own kife is one thing, but yourself and possibly a crew member on the ship. Naw.
n/a never use “Americans” and “smart” in the same sentence again... unless you’re putting “are not” between them
I cant stand moments like those, its so clearly scripted.
Auditory Cheesecake Nice generalization?
"What can I do to help?" "GET OUT OF MY WAY" LOL
🦶😮💨
“Richard Hammond’s Big” three words I never thought I’d see in the same sentence.
Piyush Pokhrel 😂😂😂😂
THAT WHAT SHE SAID
I think that's the joke NGL.
The only way he can say he's tall and definitely not shorter than most.
The supply vessel was from the Edison Chouest fleet.
They call Chouest the Cajun Navy.
Biggest company you’ve never heard of.
9 shipyards, 400+ vessels worldwide, family owned and operated.
I worked for Chouest for 14 years.
Not sure which vessel that was but it was one of the newer ones.
Nice vessels.
The Dynamic Positioning System is incredible, about 7 computers coordinate the vessels thrusters and main propulsion systems and the vessel will sit in one spot like its sitting on a rock, kinda amazing if you consider the wind is pushing the vessel one direction the waves and current in another.
The captain and crew monitor the system only correcting it if needed, which is rarely.
Interesting. I'm currently on a similar boat that's been converted for clam fishing. We dont have (or need) this system but it sounds awesome.
Night Hawk what’s the displacement of your vessel?
I work for chouest that boat was a 280
Very interesting. Thanka for sharing!
So sweet!
Must be a really interesting job Richard has at the moment, visiting all these incredible engineering projects all over the world
These are old
"I just need you to stand outta my way"
😂😂😂
That guy had a bad day
Met too many Americans like that. Nobody likes them
Thats a bit rude isn't it.
@@James.576 It was. Let him load at least something. My guess is that the supply ship was not informed about the recording of this programme
that's what you get for hanging James on his sleeping tent
Didn’t jeremy do that?
@@someone321 they both did it
What episode is that in
@@jrh5544 think they mean the Burma special with the trucks and think was Jeremy that hoisted James tent with his crane cause of his snoring
loody the leprican when did hammond do it?
My son works as a chemist around the world on these platforms. They are the most highly organised and safety conscious environments you can find. I bet they just loved having a film crew on board.. :))
Who does he work for? I might know him. :)
Not if you are offshore in TWN countries such as India, offshore Russia etc. Refused many a basket lift in rough seas.
I like how he says “traditional Louisiana stew”
Yeah when he said "traditional Louisiana stew" my first thought was "He's talking about gumbo."
Hahaha Im from New Orleans and I thought the same thing.
I knew when he said favourite dish, after all they are 130 kms away from NOLA
5:00 “Some sort of liquid, very important” lol 😂
Gotta respect that man he is 100% business. "I just need you to stay out of the way" 😂😂
I’m the same way. last thing u need is some new guy messing somethin up and you get blamed for it
Same with many ocean objects or creatures you see on camera. It's tough to scale how massive these rig platforms truly are without having anything to compare it too!
I'm taking up Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. This video makes me motivated. When I down I always watch this video to make my self motivated. So thankful that you documented this video :)
Don’t know how this showed up on recommended, but truly glad it did😂
3:36 Hammond looks like he about to float away any second
Richard Hammond’s documentaries are an opportunity to learn a lot of things. It is a great learning platform. Keep up the excellent job.
I used to work in the oilfield in Carlsbad NM, and Im already having flashbacks!
I spent all my time catching a boat ride or a helicopter ride out of fourchon or grand isle to do some service work on a platform or a 'toad stool' in the gulf. Retired about six years ago....still fresh enough to say I miss it......
james moore 😆 I kinda miss it aswell, met alot of great people that came from alot of different states just to work in the field!
2:58 - 3:43 Is this a scene off of the office with Michael Scott and Darryl??
I meet him on that platform. He’s a really nice guy.
Large oil rig is easy when you bring pumpkins and an ak
yeah just use the tower on top and use crane when you call in the heavies
Yeah
Is see you're a man of culture
Rust?
Juan Antonio Cruz no dust
I'm going to need you to stand over there. In other words, stay out of my way. 🤣🤣🤣
Richard you were lucky it was a flat calm day; there were not many of them when I worked in the North Sea.
3:00 My dude was a bit too serious
I mean, not really. He's got a job to do. Someone getting in the way or doing something wrong can either cost thousands of dollars, or cause someone serious injury.
If anything goes wrong, that guy might loose his job. And that stuff is expensive. So it's understandable.
No, he was very professional.
Ok my man
That’s so cool that Diamond Dogs let Hammond have a tour of Mother Base.
Back when I was on a rig our sewage soil line always got blocked and dried up, we worked out if we diverted a little high pressure crude we never had a clogged or dried sewage soil lines
I've been on a string of watching these Hammond Discovery channel vids
Hammond looked absolutely defeated lol.
I like how one of the essential groceries there are Gatorades
It has salts and electrolytes essential for people who sweat a lot. They need it to replace what they loose. Also, they need at least 2 bottled waters or more per Gatorade.
household brands are essential for keeping up morale and preventing homesickness and isolation.
1:04 everyone keep in mind how gigantic that ship is and it is dwarfed by that oil rig
This was in my recommendations realll quick for some reason
the fact that they went down aboard the PSU didnt make any sense
Very true
Damien, the guy in charge had a short amount of time to get the ship unloaded and out of the way. They must have realised he was going to direct them to stay well away from the dangerous heavy huge steel boxes swinging from a crane
Maybe just to show him how they load the food or something
To get one of the crew down would make sense, to keep (radio) contact with the crane-operator when ready to lift
I just noticed this vid was just released.
woah dang i just assumed it was 7 or 8 years old till i saw this comment
Bruh, I thought it was some old video
My dad worked at Bethlehem Steel in Beaumont, Tx. He went many times to jack up rigs for repair work!!! He could not talk enough about the food on them!!! I think sometimes thats why he went!!!
you can tell this crew has seen previous topgear episodes: "you can stay out of the way" lol
We need hammond type guys on the work. He's so clumsy and happy guy.
"I'm being sent to help" "please do nothing"
3:07 Hammond gets introduced to how most people working in trades really talk... lol
I love that moment. The guy is all business and richard just wants to help.
Damien was finna hit him with the meanest uppercut ever
I realy like how this dude stopped stiring whatever that is at 5:41.
That's gumbo. It's delicious.
Hats off to the Filipinos! They are everywhere out on the high seas.
How am I just now finding out that the Hamster has his own show!?!?
3:10 - It's like the scene in "District 9" where Vicus is telling the commander that the soldiers should carry less ammo...
The most epic grocery trip in existence
I still think if they'd replaced David Tennant with Richard Hammond on Doctor Who, nearly no one would have known the difference.
Lol, I just delivered groceries to an oil rig yesterday.
Lol nobody cares.
@@jessicaregina1956 then why did 15 people upvote and you bother to comment?
To irritate you
@@jessicaregina1956 You just made me laugh a little. If anything you sound like the ones who is annoyed lol
Woohoo look! Squirrel
Speaking of Hygiene.... During this lockdown.
The man saying get out of the way is the most real it can get in one of these jobs, no bs involved
Doesn’t care about a camera crew
not a video we needed, but the video we got
That looks so fun.Being on the crane thing
It is until the wind blows 25-30 mph and the seas go up to 7-9 feet. Like trying to land the basket on a moving roller coaster.
My wife's grandpappi used to say, "you help more by staying out of the way"
the vessel belongs to Edison Chouest Offshore. i worked for them many years back , outside of the us army it was one of the best jobs i had
Hey that is my job , deliver provisions on board vessels with a truck , mostly in Rotterdam, Antwerp , Gent , Zeebrugge., and other Ports.
Guy is a hysterical baby.
The guy on the ship "Get out of the way".
I used to manage a large retail store. I had a replenishment manager who reported to me. He was the same.
We had multiple trucks a day coming in with merchandise. I left him alone and let him run his crew. I'm the type of manager who is hands off. As long as you get stuff done, I am going to leave you alone.
The rig is actually a Lego set it just looks big because of Richard
Lol
And as someone who has worked offshore in the North Sea i have never found out why the bananas are the first thing to be hoarded once the supply boat has been
squad of 8 gonna roll everybody there in a scrap heli
Don't forget to bring through extra med kits
Full metal m2 kids here
here I come, alone in my rowboat, armed with a revolver and wood armor
Man of culture I see.
Someone called in the heavy scientists
This gives me MSGV mother base memories
Thanks Sir for your time
somehow, richard would've managed to roll that rig!
Another cool video 👍🏻
You know, for an oil rig... they get pretty awesome food on there.
Put Richard Hammond as the STIG on the transport ship! 😱🤣🤪😅👍😎
We all really needed to watch those itty bitty almost empty containers being hoisted. In proper high seas that might even be slightly difficult
😂😂The delivery ship 🚢œ on his work space 😂 Recheard Fkd up by getting down there
There's even a corner shop at sea!
Nice video work on the oil rig, the bumbling "personality" I could do without. The deck boss on the supply ship didn't waste any words.
Love these!
And this was done on a calm day. Try it with a 30 + knot wind blowing.
Great video!
I love how he acts as if it’s his first time on the crane person carrier, but he obviously used it to get onto the platform 🤣
Probably got choppered out.
They came in a helicopter and flew out the same way. It was a cool experience when the Discovery crew came to the platform.
props to the guy cooking the gumbo i couldn’t imagine trying to make a dark roux on that scale
Damien needs a tv show lol
The delivery man didn’t understand Hammond.
Damm that guy is cold
I think 6:02 is the first time Hammond had been the tallest man in the room
This show is awesome
Hey Richard next time while you are out on the deck unloading the provisions make sure you wear your safety glasses on. I have been working on offshore rigs wonder why the HSE didn't give you a warning 😝
5:29 Hammond looks like a tiny little Steven Seagal.
looks pretty straight forward to me
I was on a site where ess was making the food. We figured it stood for eleven shades of slop because that’s what they served us.
A safety tether on a Billy Pugh! When did that happen! It was far more entertaining watching Supply Boat operations on Nightshift, January in The North Sea!
1:35 and they strap him in on the basket. Oh thats nice :D
I want some of that gumbo!
Man I would really really love to work on one of those things. Unfortunately I'm not particularly skilled - I operate various machines for custom office furbiture manufacturing: there's maybe some technical skills I've developed in maintaining and repairing those machines, but its a different league entirely from what these guys on oil rigs are doing.
But what I'm wondering - how does one get their foot in the door in a place like this? I'd be willing to sweep the floors for barely above minimum wage if thats what it takes, but I would just love love love to do anything related to working on one of these rigs. Anybody with any experience have any tips? Would getting certified with various forklifts be helpful?
I forgot to mention that forklift certification won’t help you, companies that have work going on out there are among the safest, wasn’t always the case though. They will train you their way.
Step one is a safety course thats mandatory for work oil rigs. Then you gneerally need to show you have some skills or trades thatbmakes sense. A steward (helping in the galley, cleaning accomodations/cabins) is generally not needed for any skills. But you cant really grow in ranks.
Better to start working on deck, and eventually maybe get a offshore crane certificate. But to work on deck you would need some more certification.
This is awesome 👏
HAMMOND GOT STAUNCHED ON THAT BOAT
A question I didn't know I needed answered
Did anyone else get this randomly on recommanded and decided to watch?
Just you.
respect for the guy at 3:13
Why would iron man be so scared to fly ?
Well, when you've crashed as much as Iron Man has without being a billionaire, you tend to be more cautious.
I cant believe I'm watching dr.who presenting a show about oil rigs!
"Richard Hammond's Big"
Are you sure about that guys?
@1:23 I don't think that is the straps intended use.
I was thinking that too......
Nice one Richard :)
