Water survival saved my life in 2001 I went down in the Gulf of Mexico in a jet ranger 206 L model. I made it out the helicopter with a spinal cord injury and legs not working. They don’t train for that! But the things taught in school did help.

A couple of things stand out for me regarding the BOSIET. I wear glasses and felt a little uneasy in the pool area because everything was blurred as I had to leave the specs in the locker, I'm sure other people have felt the same. The hardest part of the training for me was pulling myself into the life raft, if it was a real emergency in the rough North Sea there is no way in this world I could pull myself in. You need a lot of strength, nowadays I would need a strong young lad to get in the raft first and pull me up by the tag on the back of my survival suit. Good video

    • @EnergyInsider

      Thank you Sam.
Regarding your question. Previous experience is usually preferred against someone who has none, however at the moment in the UK for example, it is difficult to find experienced people, and therefore more people with no industry experience are being hired. You should check out the www.offshoresurvivalcourse.co.uk/ website - look for the 'offshore survival guide' on there, it's free, there is a lot of effort in that to explain how the industry works in relation to finding jobs, answered questions etc

You have booked a ‘Mist and BOSIET’ with a training provider, but they haven’t given you a start date for the course?
If you are assuming that completion of the course means that the training provider will connect you with a hiring company to start work, this is not the case.
The course will make you safe to work offshore from an HSE training matrix perspective.

🤔 i would definitely wear swimwear because they ain’t going to give you a new suit like in this video. It will be an old one that leaks! You will get wet.
Also on Huet, it really important to concentrate on timing your last breath or you are not in a good place.
Definitely have go to put window first as he said then buckle, but when you release the buckle, you have to make sure and turn it fully and twist hips to get all straps off, dont let go of it until legs are definitely free, then just follow arms.
If you work on offshore vessels in the Uk MIST is not required, its only for platforms as far as i know

Answer to your last question : It is risky to train without having a job offers first..... This is what I did in the beggining of 2015.... BOSIET, MIST, Green Hand Training, Banksman And Slinger training, ERTM training (Emergency Response Team Member) plus Offshore Medical...... I had them all ....... but LUCK wasn''t on my side...... Right at this moment the oil price dropped 70% and many offoshore companies started to letting go personel for a very long time...... Now I am just a farmer in Eastern Europe......

Yes. You don’t need to know how to swim. As long as you pass the tasks

    Cheers

There are a lot of people that need glasses offshore. As long as you can read to the required level with your glasses on you should be fine.
Before you book, give them medical place a quick phone to confirm.

Do you think having land drilling experience along side all the necessary offshore tickets might be a way to break into the industry?

    • @EnergyInsider
      @EnergyInsider  Год назад

@@stepupyourgame9510 the short answer is yes.
That experience is great, and things are very busy at the moment with the Ukraine thing affecting demand.
If you haven’t done it already, contact agencies and drilling companies. Check out this website www.offshoresurvivalcourse.co.uk/
Look in the discounts section for the ‘free’ guide, it should give you some companies and agencies.
      That should help a lot

I'd love to be able to do this but there is one problem I have a bladder problem and I have to wear a catheter condom with a urinal tube attached to a leg bag attached to my left leg not sure if I could do this would I need to wear a adult nappy underneath the drysuit?

I’m fit though, ex professional boxer

    • @EnergyInsider

There isn't an age limit that I'm aware of, health is the main factor. Offshore the average age is probably about 40 (from my experience).
If you are fit and healthy and can pass the course then you'll be fine.

It depends on where you are in the world, training provider etc.
We had 2 guys in our team do it recently.
Approx £800 for Bosiet + £180 for the OGUK medical and the fit to train (FTT). The FTT is needed to do the bosiet.
