  • A first look at the Sting S4 in Microsoft Flight Simulator - available from the Marketplace. It has to be one of the best modelled sport GA aircraft in the simulator - with all sorts of functionality, and really lovely modelling throughout.

    Nice video Jonathan and congratulations on being one of the few to resist pulling that parachute handle during your flight. Raul over at FSReborn really knocked it out of the park with this aircraft. It's just an absolute pleasure to fly low and slow -- especially in VR!

    I purchased this plane way back when I was new to MSFS. I couldn't get the throttle to work. It was bind to throttle 1 instead of just throttle. I never knew about the settings inside the sim until this plane. They give you plenty options and liveries. One flaw, if I remember right, is that you can open the door but when you view it outside the plane, it's closed. Good value though and fun to fly.

      Would be interesting if you can reproduce that issue with the canopy as it sounds new to me. We never received a report for that one. But the canopy is quite special and we changed again the behavior a few updates ago. Try to open in flight and have some fun ;)

    I picked this plane up a few weeks ago when shopping for a ride to enjoy the sims fantastic views. It came down to the Sting or the Optica, and the Sting won my purchase.
    It's a joy to fly in most conditions but it does get tossed around easily on windy days, but that's a trade off for it being so light and so fuel efficient.
    One of the things that impressed me with this plane was its ability to run on automotive fuel which in my area runs at about 50~60% of AVgas prices. Depending on loading and power settings you can cruise at something around 3.5~4.0 gallons per hour.. I know I'm weird because I like to calculate fuel costs for my virtual travels to help put a budgeting perspective on them.. at least with the GA aircraft.
    The only bad thing I can say is that some of the autopilot buttons in the cockpit are inop, but at least it has one. I'd say the default asobo JMB ultralight handles similar to the Sting ,if you want to fly something without opening your wallet, but the JMB lacks any auto pilot.

      @@thorstenruerup1486 I haven’t flown your plane (planning too though!) but, having learned to fly in a Gobosh 700 on the Colorado Front Range, believe me, getting tossed around in this size plane is perfectly normal. 😱

    I bought this plane the day it came out. It's still one my absolute favorites.
    Worth noting is that you should try to avoid accidentally opening the canopy while in flight. The modeled that too and it won't close all the way while in flight, which makes for a rather... Noisy journey. Discovered that one by accident while trying to click something on another monitor. Didn't notice the pointer on the sim was right over the canopy lever. 😅

    • @jonbeckett

      Heh - at least it's not like the Kodiak, that over-stresses the aircraft if you open the storm window while in-flight.

    Thank you for bringing this wonder little GA plane to my attention. I have been looking for a high visibility, well modeled, modern airplane for sightseeing flights; this looks like it is the ticket. I’m not sure which costs more, the airplane or the avionics, but it’s a MSFS, so we can enjoy it all at at the cost of a few gallons of gas. Well done Jon. Thx again.

    Came to check out your review of this. Going to have to pick this one up. Looks great. Also, as I know you like me are not an actual pilot, I wanted to make you aware of a mistake you made that I only just recently was corrected of. At 10:30, you refer to your maneuver as a side-slip. I too have used that term interchangeably with crabbing, but what you did there is actually a crab. Crabbing is the turning the nose into the wind whereas side slipping is banking the aircraft into the wind so as to counteract it. I saw a training video today where they talked about the differences and it surprised me as i took them to be synonymous.
    This is the vid I had caught. Has some really great stuff I want to practice in my crosswind landings. Thanks again for the vids.

      If you talk to 10 different pilots about correct techniques, and what they call each technique, you will get 10 different answers. If you then ask the internet, you will get mansplained at by 20 more people (who will continue to argue among themselves) :) As long as it's clear what you are doing, it really doesn't matter too much :)

    • @fauxflights77
      @fauxflights77 9 месяцев назад

      Apologies. Not looking to mansplain anything or be overly pedantic. I was surprised to hear the difference myself as I had taken them to be one in the same. One involves dipping a wing and the other involves turning the nose. I was ignorant as to their being two different terms and was passing the info along, but certainly feel free to simply enjoy flying. I think its an important distinction as I am now reading of both as differing approach styles, but as you said, to each their own. Just don't know how far that goes in flying.

    Do you know what the AUD FEATHER does on the Embraer 110?😊

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Год назад

      It's AUT FEATHER - Auto Feathering. When the power being produced by the engine drops to the point where it is not contributing to thrust, the propeller will go into a feathered mode to reduce drag.
