6:35 Funny thing is that China did actually have a fair few tanks at the start of the war. Mostly Panzer 1’s sold to them by Germany. Yes, Germany inadvertantly undermined their ally Japan by selling tanks and small arms to the Chinese before Germany had allied with Japan.
There were a fair few people in Germany who urged Hitler to support China instead of Japan with von Falkenhauser even giving the Chinese all his war plans before departing back to Germany
Japan wasn't Germany's ally early on, they sought out China as an ally. One of the reasons Japan invaded China was so that they wouldn't be left isolated from developing alliance blocks, they saw the possibility China joining Germany's alliance as a massive threat. H. H. Kung of the Kuomintang was palling around with Hitler in Berlin in June 1937, this was only a month before the Marco Polo Bridge Incident.

Japan actually fought quite well for a country of their stature They had very little resource availability and a below average land army The Axis as a whole somehow fought quite decently given their situation(well that's debatable)
Germany didn't really fight that decently, Belgium and France had outdated armies, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland also had outdated and still managed to inflict heavy loses, Greece killed Italy's ass and lost because they ran out of ammo, Denmark didn't fight, and Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, England, and USA kicked Germany's ass.
That isnt true, the japanese army suffered terrible losses because of the use of banzai charges. Tactically, the IJA was terrible, and as you admit, strategically too.

Ya know, these kindsa videos make me want a mod with like, Black Ice's depth and breadth of mechanics but also combined with like, Kaiserredux. I want schizo nation paths and the utter insanity of these 'realistic' mechanics.
"Singapore has fallen there were no guards" 😭😭😭😭😭😭 noooo Historically the Japanese did also sink two battleships that were sent to reinforce Singapore, although the ones you sank were kinda less modern ones. The Japanese sank the Prince of Wales and the Repulse, with the latter actually being there during Bismarck's attempted escape into the Atlantic. Playing Japan on BICE is also one of the things I like doing especially given how impactful their occupation is on my region's history. The interesting thing in BICE is that AI Japan very often manages to totally clean up China by the time they invade the South which is rather ahistorical... That certainly makes their invasion of Southeast Asia so much easier
during one of my playthroughs i got stuck in china, my losses we're minimal all in all. andi was a advanced economy with perfect fleet. but china and the ussr had basically stalemated me in the mountains and had nigh equal divisions with antitank etc. and so their combined might made it impossible to push more than a province a year before supplies and logistic reserves ran out again and again. basically killing me because by that point it was too late for me to expect to hold a third front again america too.

Calling operation Ai operation "AL" like the Japanese abandoned their own Alphabet (which has no L) and decided to name their operation after an English name is very funny to me. It was followed by operation Steve and Jimmy I imagine. Not a diss at all its easy to mistake in the font but it made me chuckle.
Something that's always bothered me with Black Ice (And HoI4 in general) is the way ships are handled. Prime example if less than 5 minutes into the video, you can't even start thinking of producing the Yamato because you don't have the techs researched, when in reality the ship was already being designed and laid in secretive dry docks. With the way the game works as of today, you "research" techs for ships that you should already have way later than you should, and to compensate the game makes it suuuuuper easy and quick to make massive battleships, or swarms upon swarms of DDs or SS/SSNs in unrealistic record time. I get that for casual play it works out for most people and they don't really bat an eye at the issue. But that's one thing that really hampers the strategic aspect of naval combat (the least-liked aspect of the game for many) by removing the forward planning of ship design and building.
That talk about NATO symbols made me realize just how much of an outlier I am in that I know the NATO symbols better than the shit they made up for HoI4
I had brutal game in vanilla HoI4 as Japan when I strengthened US because I want some harder war. Germany collapsed in 1941. Then I had to fight UK fleet French fleet Italian fleet while USN send just hordes of submarines, and meanwhile because they though Japan is too irrelevant, they decided to democratize Russia, and started WW3, won against weakened Russia. And then forced Russia to start fighting against Japan as well. Year 1958 Japan reconquered India for third time, conquered Middle East, and won war in Europe, which correctly US estimated it would be the main battle field that would make or break US victory. Chinese heavily cooperated with Japan after they were nuked by US about 15x. When you not abusing game mechanics, strengthening US is such bad idea when you are playing weaker countries like Japan.
