How has this guy gone from animated monty python to making a better documentary that actual television stations
That is a good way of putting it.

RUclipsrs making documentaries with higher production values than TV stations seems to be the standard these days.
It boggles the mind that one dude with a computer is able to do better than a company with dozens of employees with the best equipment available and access to subject experts, yet here we are.
In the end, Makarov committed the same old mistake that most often happens with great generals.
He didn't appoint a successor, no one stepped up and things took a turn for the worse. It's a classic.
To be fair he was basically the only competent admiral the russian had
@@thefrenchbaguette919one of two. Rozhestvensky was fairly competent himself, but the problem was he fleet was iced in much of the time and the sailors were conscripts who rarely saw the sea. He was dealt a really, REALLY bad hand. That he made it to Asia alone was a miracle.
@@wesleyfravel5149 Hm I wonder They Won't Train those Conscripts how to doing their job First Before start expedition at least Some Basic Stuff or Capital Forced Them to start Expedition without prepare
@@user-oi3jk4qo9j What? That’s preposterous. Why do any of that when you can just… not bother?
@@user-oi3jk4qo9jif I remember correctly, a lot of those conscripts and reserves came last minute (relatively speaking), plus lots of resources were being directed towards the war.
So even when they tried to perform drills, such as gunnery, it was extremely limited by logistics.

"...Suprise attack against the Russian Pacific fleet"
_This will be a recurring theme_

They did the same to the Chinese during the First Sino Japanese War. The Japanese do not formally declare war even on themselves. I remember reading that preemptive attacks were a core part of their warrior culture.
to be fair they are not know for there navy
Russia has this magnet style navy, which nations are attracted to it and do a surprise attack

“Stand proud, Rostovensky. You were strong.”

This happens more than you think once the fighting is over.
"You were magnificent, Rostovensky. I shall remember your name for as long as i live."
15:50 OK the navy general rolled ONE. Critical Hit on the battleship. GAME OVER...RESULT OF FAILURE YOUR OWN SHIP SUNK.
he had a plan, but luck said no
Man, what if Makarov survived? Such an interesting scenario
A navy general? I guess we're calling the land military officers army admirals then!
@Historyguy-xu5ht fun fact his family is famous for the Russian Milltary hand gun of same name Pistolet Makorov M9 in 9×18 Makorov which became the standard Russian army sidearm of 1955# I believe his Great Grand Son was the gun maker# built in State own Factorys like the main on Of Tual# there is Chinese copys but unlike the original Russian don't have red colored grips which r the Russian Identification for them as opposed too Chinese Garbage version r.#mostly because Chinese type jam way too much.

20:16 uncle iroh, but he doesn’t give up the siege
Avatar: The Last Airbender (and Legend of Kora) have been heavily inspired by East and North Asian culture, so it's not improbable that some aspects of the show could have been inspired by events such as this one, especially since the Fire Nation bears much resemblance to Japan and their rise to glory (and war crimes).

Falling so slow

Rozhestvensky's trip around the world with the second pacific squadron is an adventure worthy of its own hours long video, it plays out like a D&D campaign gone wrong
I want a dark comedy movie made out of that voyage. The random nonsense that happened is prime dark comedy gold.
I mean, how did the Kamchatka keep screwing up as badly as it did?
It started out bad, got worse, then the wild animals showed up, then it all got destroyed in one day

It’s definitely relevant. After all, the Baltic Fleet’s clash with Japan’s Imperial Navy is called The Battle of Tsushima
Lumber company causing a massive war is almost as superficially absurd as an arch duke getting shot starting an immensely greater slaughter
Let's not forget that a war was almost started because of a pig.
It was actually Russia who start WW1. By invading Austria-Hungary.
Russia also started WW2 by invading Poland with Nazi Germany.
Russia trying start WW3 by invading Ukraine, is nothing unexpected.
@@TheRezrothat's blatantly false, WW1 was started when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Russia only joined because of a previous alliance, same as everyone else.

@kaltaron1284 honestly it's impressive that the reinforcement squadron even found the main fleet
@@lucasfragoso7634 It should have been impossible for them to catch up but they "cheated" by going through Suez and then there was the whole Madagaskar episode.
I also love that the Russians sent resupplies once. Instead of shells it was mostly winter gear. Famously very useful around Africa and the Indian Ocean.
You probably know Drachinifel's two-parter? If not, I recommend to check it out.
Russia not being prepared to fight wars against weaker neighbors seems to be a trend
It just shows how russian goverment apatatus is
They always seem to underestimate enemy capabilities
Yet given enough time and losses the russians snowball into a formidable fighting force

Russia defending against brutal invasion: 👹

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, I should stop drinking vodka" -Russians
The introduction with Ghost of Tsushima dialogue is so amazing. I can Imagine that this would fit perfectly in the Russo Japanese War.
What noobs. If I was the Emperor I whould've'have spammed Yari Ashigaru and won in ten turns flat. If I was Russian it would've been Tsar's Guard. Just build farms, ports and roads, don't forget the guild, and you're all good.
The animations and use of countryballs here are just so beautiful. What an amazing video about an incredible part of the 20th century. Thank you Ezekiel for giving us such an amazing video.
I've been waiting for this since you released the video about the Meiji restoration, and you did not disappoint.
The Ghost of Tsushima intro is goated.
I love how you can tell the point when war stops being "fun" and becomes endless bloodshed for no reason but influence and territorial gain.
japan said “screw it” and fought a war with Russia and surprised everyone by actually winning
(Just to simplify)
General Nogi really reminds Uncle Iroh from the Avatar.
Also the siege of Port Arthur can be compared with the siege of Ba-Sing-Se
I knew it sounded similar too something I had seen before did not realize it was that though
"Leaves from the vine...."
My greatgreatgrandfather was an East Prussian German who lived in Russia just kilometers away grom the German border. Sadly he was conscripted into the Russian Army and fell in the war. May he rest in peace.
I love this channel, you dived into Asian history which aren’t really much covered. At least the animated ones. Your vids also keeps getting better and better!
How the heck did you make such a masterpiece in a single month!!??!
Props to you fr.
Gotta love the Iroh reference
Your quality just keeps getting better and better each video!
This is amazingly done. Your videos just keep getting better and better. I really look forward to what you will deliver in the future.

Edit: The intro is really well made. You put your heart into this. The voices were so good
Love this video, The amount of effort put in is incredible.
Out bloody standing Ezekiel. Loved it very much.
"They decided to take the best of both men's plans"
Huh, pretty clever, almost too clever.
"...throw them out, and impliment the most self-defeating strategy possible."

The story of the Second Pacific Squadron, if you don't know it, is amazing and practically a Monty Python skit. This video doesn't go into it much but if you have the time, after watching you should read up on or watch a video dedicated to it.
If you want to see a really interesting anime which involves this war, "Golden Kamuey" is a really good one!
This is some high quality video!
The animated intro honestly shows that you guys have the passion and skills to make something truly special.

Reave instead of leave was a very nice touch on the japanese accent, they dont have Ls
Fun Fact:Montenegro jpined on the side of the russians in the war and were left out from the treaty so they stayed in war with japan for ower 200 years untile 2006.
It was one century ago rather than two.
A peculiar fact is that Nogi single-handedly managed to Make Seppuku Great Again. At the time, it was widely regarded in Meiji Japan as old-fashioned and belonging in the country's barbaric past. With a war hero like Nogi doing it, public perception of seppuku changed drastically. Thus, in his own way, Nogi contributed to the growth of the cult of honourable sacrifice and disregard for one's own survival that culminated in WW2.
It's always a good day when CallMeEzekiel uploads.
Love your vids man keep it up :)
