    As an Italian I can say that the whole point of the offenssive on the Alps was to, and I quote directly form our own Foreign Minister of the time, "Get enough deads to sit at the negotiation table, a few thousands should do it".
    The Italian Army knew perfectly that they can't penetrate the France defence on the Alps, WW1 teached them, as with anything in all the italian contribution to WW2 the generals advices gets ignored in favour of the ambitions of the fascist government.
    Funfact: All the good/competent italian comanders refused to take part of any of the disatrous invasion (i.e. Yugoslavia and Greece) as it would stain their military career with failure, so they did everything so their name wasn't associated with offensives that could tarnish their name
    +
    The italian armed forces moderniced early and got bankrouped by their 'adventures' in Spain and Ethiopia, so they couldn't spare the money to modernize like Britain, France and even Germany in the years of appeasment
    No wonder Italian performance were mediocre at best, they were under equipped, staffed with comanders that acquired their position thanks to political loyalty to the fascists, and were fighting in a war which outcome they couldn't care less
    EDITS: typos

    • @TheLogg
      @TheLogg 2 месяца назад +1

      I disagree, I can't find the quote the mentioned anywhere on the internet, and if it was true that they only wanted to kill italian troops why did they only begin offensives by the time the war was almost over instead of instantly attacking and getting lives lost. They also very much did care about the outcome of the war since they had claims on some french territory, had germany lost they would never receive any land from france. Italy did so poorly because of the advanced French military far more well equipped and had a consistent plan of defence. Unlike the Italians who began attacking out of nowhere unable to take major towns in the area. Really the Italians were quite stupid and over estimated themselves constantly.

    • @Hello_Future_Me
      @Hello_Future_Me 2 месяца назад +13

      @@TheLogg The the quote is from the personal letters of Galeazzo Ciano One of the confident of Mussolini.
      Now the reason because Italy didn't attack immediately was because it was concluding negotiation (like the video states) with the allies to stay out of the war because it believed (like the allies) that the war will be a WW1 2.0, actually if you read the correspondence between Ciano and other people close to Mussolini you can see that they themselves couldn't believe that France was conquered in such a short time (6 weeks), so the last minute decision to enter the war (i.e. getting few thousand casualties to get the 'foot in the door' and get France territories along the Alps) without an overall plan.
      To the advancing Italian soldiers the day of the attacks along the Alps was simply communicated to advance, as I say no plan at all
      The Italians were really conscious that they could not fight (in fact they keep themselves neutral when Germany asked them to commit to the invasion of Poland), the Fascist simply believed that the war was over and could grab a few free territories. The fact the the UK keep fighting even alone (W for them honestly) surprised everyone

    • @TheLogg
      @TheLogg 2 месяца назад

      @@Hello_Future_Me Still he was only the foreign minister and voted to oust Mussolini from power and arrest him, so they couldn't have been that close friends. The Italians actually did have a plan they aimed to capture a few specific towns and pass through the alps, if they only wanted med dead why would they use airforce and tanks, which would waste equipment and possible save lives. @@Hello_Future_Me If memory serves, what also played roles in Italy going to war when it did (and even Mussolini knew that Italy was not ready for war) was fears over Germany exerting influence in the Balkans (the agreed Italian "sphere of influence"), along with the potential fears over a German invasion of Italy.
      And since the war looked like it would be a short one with French capitulation in such a relatively short time, the Italians were content to play the vulture.

Telegraph and phone still operated, except on the front lines, where the lack of radio was the most telling.
      Besides, all of this, though quite obvious, is secondary, the point being : what do you gain by not warnng / cordinating your efforts ? Distrust, inneficiency, and betrayal, nothing more. I rest my case, good day sir, try to learn on the subject.

      yeah no, they coöridinated it plenty but the french and british didn't want to accept it, to give you an idea how dire the situation was, the belgians surrendered when they were fighting on their own beaches after 2 days. They delayed their surrender to give the brits and french a fighting chance to retreat to the evaction of Dunkirk. Which then afterwards was used by churchill to throw the entirity of Belgium under the bus and save face back home. The version Churchill spun has been used up until very recent as the "correct version" of the situation then but even brittish historians have started to rewrite those "facts". the belgians gave the french and brits 2 days to retreat out of the country after the belgian army started fighting on its own beaches to try and force an eventual allied win.

    Fun fact : France didn't use the time gained before the War to remilitarise as the defense budget of 1939 was still comparable to the one or 1935, so appeasement didn't really matter for France, it could even have won in 1936.

    Ide like to mention that ww2 was extremely decisive in Britain's favor and a lot of Germany wins scenario are stupid the only way I can see it is Dunkirk working out and capturing a lot

    • @TheLogg
      @TheLogg 2 месяца назад

      No not even capturing dunkirk would have won ww2 for the Germans as the tanks were ordered to stop because they were so far away from the infantry, if they had kept going they could have been encircled which would be game over for Germany. Plus the UK had many more men in reserve. Even with the troops captured the UK wouldn't simply just surrender Churchill vowed to keep fighting and france wasn't defeated just yet, by the end of dunkirk Paris hadn't even fallen yet. Plus the soviet army would be unaffected and the US had more than enough troops and equipment.

    • @Cold444W
      @Cold444W 2 месяца назад +8

      To be honest it's quite likely that without Churchill the UK would have surrendered, as a very significant part of the government saw the war as hopeless, Churchill was the main figure which convinced the government and population to continue resisting.

    • @TheLogg
      @TheLogg 2 месяца назад

      @@Cold444W But Churchill coming to power is almost unavoidable, unless the allies start winning the war which makes the point moot anyway. They didn't sign peace because the government knew Germany wasn't to be trusted after breaking all the treaties UK + France used to try and avoid war, why would Hitler honour a peace treaty? On top of that one of German's conditions was for all the German Empire colonies returned which the UK would never agree to.

      I made my own scenario for Axis Victory.
      And imo this is the most accurate scenario for Axis Victory.
      This is just 1 scenario but the numbers are in order btw.
      1. Instead of giving away like all of their guns to Nationalist Spain in order to support them like in our timeline. Italy will instead support Nationalist Spain by sending way more Volunteer Forces than they did in our timeline.
      This will make it so that the Italians can support in the war even more and they can also keep stockpiling guns so they could be ready for war by 1940.
      2. Italy will decide to focus on North Africa in 1940. There will be no invasion of Greece this time around. If the Italians were ready for war and they also decided to focus on North Africa then maybe the Italians would be able to reach all the way to El Alamein before being inevitably pushed back but once Erwin Rommel was sent to North Africa. Then he would definitely be able to take the Suez Canal and with the Suez Canal taken that means that North Africa is finally secure and with North Africa secure then that means Italy is also secure.
      3. Instead of continuously bombing London and getting their air force practically destroyed in the Battle of Britain like they had done in our timeline, the Germans will instead continue bombing the British Airfields to stop the RAF from taking flight so as to prevent the RAF from bombing German factories whilst in preparation for Barbarossa.
      4. Barbarossa begins in May (Because Italians did not invade in Greece this time). A full month will give the Germans enough time to take Moscow in Late 1941.
      5. Finland will not be satisfied with only moving back to Pre Winter War Borders, Finland will instead keep pushing to encircle Leningrad freeing a couple of German units there and they'll also go on to attack the Kola Peninsula to take Murmansk.
      6. Japan attacks Pearl Harbor in Late 1941 destroying a lot of ships in the process and this time Japan also bombs the Pearl Harbor Naval Repair yards and Fuel Storages which slows down the US rebuilding of their Fleet .
      7. Germany doesn't declare war on the United States this time around. This will make the United States focus all of it's efforts on Japan.
      8. Japan wins the Battle of Midway this time around and destroys 3 US aircraft carriers and only losing 1 but is forced to abandon the siege of the Island by Late August due to growing US Strength.
      9. Germany focuses on Stalingrad in Case Blue and also the Germans will give anti tank weaponry to Romanian, Italian and Hungarian Army Corps in Stalingrad to secure their flanks. (The Romanian Army knew a Soviet counterattack was about to happen so they pleaded for Germany to give them anti tank weaponry which was repeatedly ignored and well the rest is history.) If the Germans give the Romanian forces on the flanks quite a bit of Anti Tank weaponry this will inevitably lead to Operation Uranus being much more of a struggle for the Soviets than it was in our timeline, and they will eventually be pushed back by a German Counteroffensive.
      Even if Operation Uranus was still successful, since Germany was prioritizing Stalingrad then Operation Winter Storm would've came in and liberated the Kessel almost immediately after Operation Uranus and they could even encircle some of the Soviet divisions used for Operation Uranus if they get lucky enough. All in all this ensures Stalingrad falls by Spring 1943 and so do the Caucasus.
      10. Japan loses Guadalcanal by December 1942, Japan simply can't withstand the full might of the US Navy themselves despite destroying 3 US aircraft carriers at Midway.
      11. Mustache Man decides since the war is going smoothly he decides to keep the Jewish people to eventually send them to Madagascar.
      12. German Army focuses their Northern forces to take Leningrad by Spring 1943, in order to free up the soldiers currently there and prepare for the final offensive.
      By Summer 1943 they will concentrate their forces in the South and Center to make a push towards Kazan. The collapse of the Soviet Union is near.
      13. America wins the Battle of the Philippine Sea in Mid 1943. And the Americans are able to return to the Philippines by Late 1943.
      14. By Mid 1943 Kazan falls and the German offensive continues on and since the German offensive seemed unstoppable. Multiple former Soviet Republics began to break away from the Union by early 1944 and by Mid 1944 the Germans will be victorious in the Eastern Front.
      15. America wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf in Late 1943. The Japanese Naval forces who were opposing them were almost completely annihilated.
      16. America takes Iwo Jima in Early 1944 and Okinawa by Mid 1944. Operation Olympic planned for beginning on Late 1944 and Operation Coronet on Early 1945
      17. After the German Victory on the eastern Front. The Germans have now allowed the Vichy French Government to return to Paris and all pre war lands except Alsace-Lorraine. This is more to happen so that the Germans don't have to spend resources occupying these lands when they could just give it to their puppet.
      18. Massive Kriegsmarine build up in Late 1944. And Operation Sealion in Early 1945.
      19. by Early 1945 the Japanese surrender after an invasion of their home islands.
      20. Operation Sealion ends in failure in Mid 1945, The British end up realizing even if they forced the Germans to retreat now. There is simply no way for them to defeat Germany by themselves and offers a ceasefire which Germany accepts.
      And that's about it for WW2 Most Possible Axis Victory timeline. This took me at least three hours to make but I have no regrets at all.

The phony war (Drôle de guerre) which basically sums up in that way : we had a biding treaty with Poland. Poland get invided. We declared war. We don't mobilize to help Poland but succeed in invading Saarland, and immediately retreat behind Maginot line and call it a day. Ignore De Gaulle call for modern mechanized army. Let Hitler invade neutral countries and Pikachu Face at the Dunkerque debacle and surrender.

    It’s very easy to look back on Allied actions in the early years of the war as a cavalcade of dumbassery.
    Not saying it’s incorrect to do so.

    France (the population) didn't want to fight this war. It indeed did win WWI, was destroyed and ruined, and didn't gained anything from it, except peace. There is a saying in France that said we won the war (WWI) and lost the peace afterward.
    Russia, UK and the USA didn't understood what pangermanism was, and prefered to raise white flag (Russia), or eases conditions on Germany to play the equilibrium game after WWI. France asked for retribution, ou generals wanted to enter in Germany and go to Berlin. We were not listened.
    So why wage another war ? Why should we let our boys die for Poland ? Why did we garantee the easter borders ? Our «allies» don't want to win seriously after all. Thinking about it, the only strategic error of France was to enter WWII, altough it had no interest in it : the goal of Germany was to expand to the east. France is not to the east of germany and if it didn't put itself in front of the Nazi, they could have watch the war as spectators.
    This is a normal turn of history that Russia, USA and UK paid the price for their negligence. They had to wage another war against this enemy they let loose after WWI. The irony is that these countries entered Germany, destroyed cities, raped the women, let die by thousands the prisonners of war and imposed harsh condition on german, while, 20 years earlier, they prevented France to do one tenth of what they did… but idiots continue to tell you that France hardship on «poor Germany» was the cause for WWII… the harsher conditions the allies put on Germany didn't bring WWIII.

      I myself grow weary of reading the multitude of poorly informed statements about how the "harsh" conditions of the Treaty of Versailles caused WWII.
      Germany wasn't shy about imposing stiff war reparations on France following the Franco-Prussian War, which was retribution for the humiliating peace imposed by Napolean on Prussia.
      General Pershing, the commander of the American Expeditionary Force, wanted to push into Germany while concluding WWI in order to make sure the Germans knew that they lost militarily.
      It appears that in their haste to prevent another great war, the allies only ensured that there would be a sequel.
