I’ve been playing for 2.4 years, for the first 1.8 years just simple chords on classic guitar and then probably like 8 months ago I started electric. I only know pentatonic and lots of solos by John Mayer. But I can already do it, I can hear almost every song and play his melody on guitar right away, I can learn solos by ear, and like he said play anything that comes to mind. So he is right. Although I’m self taught and I’m not good with finding chords and theory
Then learn BB King & Steve Vai licks, learn to play the chords at lightning speed, learn to play the scale at lightning speed, learn right hand strumming/picking technique, and do it all so well it looks natural! Easy!
I love the faces he makes where he is so clearly proud of himself and joyful about what he just played. The smiles are precious. I could listen and watch all day long. 💜
Steve Kutz Isn’t that true with everyone you become a fan of? People have a lot of preconceived ideas of what Mayer is though. Not sure why that is. Judgemental assholes humans are as a whole.
You’re like a friend who drops by and picks up your guitar that you haven’t touched in months and burns the place down with his playing. And then you say, “okay, pretty good” but can you play the middle from “25 or 6 to 4” and he nails it so well you think Terry Kath is sitting on your couch. I could watch this for hours.
Good luck to the people trying to be like john,, he is as unique as SRV was. The same but different his grooves stack up with anyone and if u put him in 81 he could have saved the blues..Such a nice guy the genuinely loves guitar as much as life and breath....incredible
John Meyer freakin playing Glen Millers band on his guitar blues style...does that make sense? I went to another World, thank you john for the free concert & lesson!
people compare jm and srv allot, i love both but im happy to say that in my life time there was a john mayer, never really knew who srv was even thow he died when i was 7, so i cant really say i ever had that bad ass guitar player around but we have to accept that john is close to that level or right there and we should appreciate all these bad ass lesson videos hes doin for his fans cuz theres not to many lesson videos from all the older generations of great blues players.
adam a as a fan of both, John is more talented IMO and more and versatile . All subjective, but John can play like SRV and I don’t think that I’d SRV were alive, that he could play like John. That said, he might not want to anyway:-)
Mr Anderson I am a very big fan of John. But I truly believe Until Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton are passed.. he is going to be stuck at 3rd.. but yeah. They are guitar gods so he’s one of them. In my own humble opinion. Super talented
I was looking for John Mayall and found this... Great, thank you John. I play a bit so you've been a real treat. Just as an aside, Mayall introduced some fantastic guitar players through his band.
I wonder if you have heard the last 3 beefheart albums? Where they took the blues guitar knocks me out. The bit of guitar towards the end of "Owed t Alex" on Bat Chain Puller...? "Hothead" and "Dirty Blue Gene" on Doc at the Radar Station? "The Past Sure is Tense" and "The most Holy oh" on Ice Cream for Crow? These albums each have a great lone guitar track, "A Carrot is as Close as a Rabbit Gets to a Diamond" "Flavour Bud Living" and the dynamic instrumental "Semi Multi-Coloured Caucasian"? I think you'd enjoy trying to fathom how these guitar pieces were built. If you get time? Regards
All the new RUclips CEO needs to do is enable flip video option on RUclips and he becomes important. Guitarists should just do this until its fixed. Make it viral
Well its very hard to catch up with this guy, i have been looking for some guitar lessons lije for chord progressions i have been tryong using bb king blues box some greek modes with blues notes, adding 7 major note he dord that a lot, bass line.
It's Voodoo Chile, the 15 minute version in the first half of Electric Ladyland. Not the more popular, and shorter, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) from the second half.
Gregory Swift the horse is there because I love horses. The 8 ball represents my former career as a professional pool player. However I know what you’re referring to and I’m not there thank god
In another video he had a real small fender that looked like a champ too me. But Princeton sounds more practical unless he practices solid state cause it's less demanding mechanically
Man his ability to hear things in his head and transcend them to the fretboard is just amazing. And you can see he knows his theory...
BEN transpose
He don’t know his theory though lmao
yeah he does.
He studied at Berkeley for music theory
He studied for a few semesters
learn your scales, sing them, start switching between them
in 1-2 years you'll be able to play anything "playing' in your head
And don't omit chords. :)

yeah i never understood why guitarists usually hate him for no reason, he's an amazing player
Holy cats, the talent is just dripping off of him. Dropped in to hear a little, was compelled to hear it all.
How can this be free ? It's priceless :)
oh well, that's why it's free haha
He has an incredible sense of rhythm, you can tell he just feels music differently
His playing is a pure magic when his adrenalin kicks into high gear.

Love the head-bob. John always get that going when he's into something. Fantastic timing and right hand.
How can he just think of a song and then make the guitar sing.....wtf I love you
And please play black bird in concert some day
And I luv u too

that tone is so smooth
7:40 omg he doesn't blink all the way like the guitar took over his mind
the playing is insane. I'm digging his tone too
I learned Blackbird 4th, so jokes on you John Mayer
He should record the national anthem, what a lovely tone🤤

wow ive watched a lot of these instagram videos on yt.. this was by far the best. what an amazing guitarist. defiantly one of the best ever.
John have you ever played with annie clark and if not when???
Man that guitar sounds great!
The lick at 8:50 just screams Hendrix, how he can just channel the sound so easily is absurd..
The dude locked himself in his room and played guitar for 32 years. It's not absurd. It's in his blood.
I think he has the chance to become one of the best players ever
I think he is

I suck, but watching him noodle around like this gets you to think as he says "do what scares you". Be playful and learn.

Please invert the video. John is a righty!
Thank you!
💔 play this one
Omg I loved Jimmy Ray
Anyway I was chasing the modes and caught up on a superstar good luck
Lol…in an endearing way. The facial expressions of a musician he makes. I make them too when I play the drums or piano

In my opinion he is right up there with Hendrix, and he can sing haha.
Hendrix gave jawn the sauce being heavily influenced by his playing and many others of course.
You are delusional comparing this guy to Hendrix in any aspect....
@@artt9717 you're delusional to not compare John to Jimi in at least some aspects

Blackbird is also a good start for learning pizzicato songs
What's the song at 7:43? Some tasty stuff right there. I recognize it, but from my childhood.

Hear my train a coming by Jimi Hendrix
I'm actually pretty sure he's just messing around with Catfish Blues.

john that was scuttle buttin
What kind of guitar does he have??
Nobody comes to Mississippi DAMN IT
Does he ever say what pedals or amps he is using? Sounds like fuzz but I’d be very curious to know which it is
What is the Song starting at 13:50?
Answered my own question, Up From The Skies (Hendrix).
that jump blues is so difficult to play, been learning the right hand technique without a pick for a week... difficult.

i know its an older fender Princeton model
I think I heard somewhere in an interview that he started using a Kemper for bedroom jamming..
