For people who think this is not a big deal for a star of his calibre to sit calmly and teach. The guy can literally be doing anything with any girl, celebrity, sports man, or spending his millions. Instead he's sitting here teaching us something cool. Thank you sir.
John was taught by Tomo Fujita. I’m not surprised he has the bone for sharing his knowledge. Tomo inspires me to do the same, but with things I’m actually good at.
Man. Watching this guy is so inspiring. It's given me a ton of fuel to keep going and evolving as a player. 2 months ago I couldn't stand John Mayer. I heard Slow Dancing and was interested in more and holy shit this dude is just overflowing with natural talent and also happens to be incredibly funny and intelligent as well. I finally get what all the fuss was about.
I hate the fact i didnt like him. I did the same with Mac Demarco and love the both of them now. Iv learned from both of those experiences that if i think i dont like someone its just that i dont like them YET
@@DANYALLAYNAD great comment. I think people forget that just because you see a "pop" artist doesn't mean that's their foundation. It's just what makes them a living.
Watching a video like this is better for an intermediate player than 10 guitar lessons . Understanding how his mind is working is definitely NEXT LEVEL
Not really if you understand even the simplest things in music theory then his process makes sense. Now i am also Self Taught and learned by ear as well. so their is that
Jonathan Saldamando he’s creative and inspiring and PLEASE don’t tell me you weren’t guilty of that 1,3,4,bend thing, i keep noticing it in my playing since that video, even on some well thought solos I’ve been playing for years Hahahah
When he said: ' don't get bored' he got a really valid point. Sometimes you feel bored and want to stop playing but then after a few more seconds he landed on a nice riff that kept the motivation and curiosity going.
The key of why his playing is so good is in his rhythm. Many of good guitar player can do 32th sextuplet on 180 bpm but do they have good rhythmic sense? John's rhythm is so on point.
Being honest none of his songs is playlist material for me but, what a guy... I recognize his talent with the instrument and his unique insight, I'm learning tons with this.
I like that song I humming that song do do do I can't believe how much it helps me unbelievable I guess once you duplicate to the strings of the guitar that's where it all comes together thank you
I can't get over how unbelievably useful, entertaining and inspiring this type of content is for someone who is trying to learn and get better at guitar. Also, it is extremely apparent that John truly enjoys sitting down and fooling around with a guitar in his lap. Thank you for this content, Mr. Mayer (and thanks to the uploader as well).
What is so amazing is how he can play chords and solo at the same time. John blows my mind every single time. He brings life and meaning to every solo.
Im a metal player and mess with the blues on the side. Well I had a natural disgust for pop starts like john but after watching this and his other videos im a believer this dude is the real deal fucking amazing
im glad jm is doing this, the guitar players of the future are going to be so lucky hes doing this because theres no video lessons like this from srv who is my fav aside from jm and i so wish he could of done this kind of stuff, thanks to youtube too.
I've probably had 30ish lessons from a half dozen different instructors and I learn more from watching one of his videos than all those "lessons" combined. JM is the shit!
No one can deny the supreme musicality of John... and while the age of sampled, looped, overdubbed and auto tune become more of a staple for short term gain, the true talent and core creation of the John Mayer(s) will far outlast the over played BS on the he radio. Thank God for BTooth and IHeart w JMayer.
I can't wait till John is old and retired... plays in a bar in his home town... just plays from the heart to anyone that will listen... when he doesn't have to worry about pop culture and making a living.... and this is the start of that.... cool stuff
How does he get that groove at 17:34? He's literally just playing open strings and it still sounds so groovy. Is he muting the strings with his palm as well? I've been trying to do it but mine just doesn't sound like that.
Seeing Mayer doing fingers close up in the thumbnail made me feel some reminiscence in my mind. It was yet to be investigated. Now I know this is pure guitar porn, as real as It gets.
About 15:05 he goes, ‘that’s nice. So, one minor two five.’ Is he talking about intervals? Plays the 1, minor 2, then the 5?? Trying to learn how to jam at home alone just like John does
Can someone please help with the pick hiding technique? Every single time I try to do it I can’t pick one note without the pick falling from under my finger...
thanks john, I love how honest, genuine and direct you are. I was curious on your opinion on in ear monitors, if you like them or prefer not to use them or maybe how you choose depending on the event. Do you miss the air? oh and have you tried the Kemper profiler?

Grant Hoover yeah I use to dislike him but he has grown on me through the years especially since he's channeling jerry on stage. Love it

This guy is literally every guitarist before him piled into one. Any style, flawlessly. Dudes a talent
When he said: ' don't get bored' he got a really valid point. Sometimes you feel bored and want to stop playing but then after a few more seconds he landed on a nice riff that kept the motivation and curiosity going.
That pick hiding technique is blowing my mind! Trying to model this guys style is like trying to make a statue out of water... JM is The Man.
Chris you mean an ice sculpture?
Jk, John is the shit.
Aaron Monkey liquid water. Makes the whole statue building thing infinitely more difficult... like Johns playing
The key of why his playing is so good is in his rhythm. Many of good guitar player can do 32th sextuplet on 180 bpm but do they have good rhythmic sense? John's rhythm is so on point.

A guitar superstar humble enough to come give his time doing lessons...shows what a down to earth person John Mayer is.
One of the best players on the planet... and one of the best teachers as well.
Being honest none of his songs is playlist material for me but, what a guy... I recognize his talent with the instrument and his unique insight, I'm learning tons with this.
The beginning song on C is beautiful! the most difficult lesson is the pick - no pick switch. Great lessons!
I like that song I humming that song do do do I can't believe how much it helps me unbelievable I guess once you duplicate to the strings of the guitar that's where it all comes together thank you
That sounds so good love the blues sound
Pic no pic that's amazing never seen that before that will take a lot of practice John makes it look so easy
What is this song

The way he switches between playing with and without the pick is honestly mindblowing, he’s a magician man
He's an incredible teacher. He not only gives great tips but also teaches you how to learn and improve on your own

SRV should watch this version of pride & joy. Is the best cover I ever heard. John Mayer did the same to him that SRV did to Hendrix.
Effortless. This dude is absolutely incredible.
Love love love when he sings a solo riff then plays it immediately after (or does it simultaneously). What a talent!
John doesn’t know it but he’s my teacher 😬 along with many others! Thank God for RUclips

He was extra soulful that day
Seeing John play open chords is like watching my god get crucified just to prove he’s human
the difference is, john exists, and his magic is real :x
@@rodimusprime9599 your selling this like a champ!
"fully God, fully human"
This video ended my musical rut. I now have goals.
After playing for 25 years, I'm learning stuff from these videos all of the time. technically and directionally.
26:00 - master level stuff...
If you're not watching this with your guitar in hand, you are missing the point.
its just a pick switch?
its not that hard, definitely not "master level stuff" though John is a master
Or just gay as hell..lol
wow! Incredible man! Thanks for remembering why you’re where you are. 🎸👊🏻
His phrasing is top notch
holy fuck. the whole queen of california bit from 18:48 to 23:30 is incredible. John is a guitar god.
JM is so wonderful! Beautiful brother thank you!
Thank you so much John for all that you've shared ❤️🙏

Amazing guitar player, very soulful.
Great guitar lessons.
Wow! Great rythym chops, groove and encouraging advice from the blues grand master! Thanks

I enjoyed listening to the beginning in C...awesome.🔥🔥
I need to get a guitar for the weekends and any other day I’m not working or in school. Mine was stolen yrs ago. Meanies!
the queen of cali groove section is so good - i still cant play it of course.

Wow! Tks John !!!
I can't believe it: JM knows how to play a standard barre chord!
I love this guy

Dude you r crazy awesome! Thanks!
Thank you!!!!
23:36 It's weird to see John barring a whole fret instead of using thumb. 😂😂
19:10 onward sounds alot like jeff beck - hyp-notica.
32:00 so nice .....
I can tell he's really inspired with his meeting with Derek Trucks.
This is great! At 19:19 I love this groove that John starts out on. Has anybody did any tabs on this? Thank you!
Any luck on finding that tab? Dying to learn it
13:05 sounds it would be in the sad part of a western movie
if john frusciante made this tipe of thing, i dont know where my end would be xD

Genius!
Hi John, I would like to know what pick tuck you use for songs such as Georgia Why. I love your music.
He is a just alive legendary blues guitarist. Maybe eric clapton*2
Some sexy blues he be playing there
We gotta get you some good internet so we can see John without the pixels. Thanks for recording these! Good as a concert to me.
John Wick Just happens on IG 🤷♂️
David D "good as a concert" ... Best definition :)
appriciate you master

Aww, I use that F# -> G bend at 31:15ish all the damn time, and I add in the complementary B on the E string as well. Come on John it's a good bit :(
thanks john, I love how honest, genuine and direct you are. I was curious on your opinion on in ear monitors, if you like them or prefer not to use them or maybe how you choose depending on the event. Do you miss the air? oh and have you tried the Kemper profiler?
hello, this is so cool.
Dude is such a bad ass that he can even play guitar lefty, lol!!!
I'm thinking JM is not a leftie player, then I realised JM is using his phone on front camera 😂😂😂
Reminds me of how bad I am as a pseudo guitarist. Where’s my Mel Bay book #1
