I believed it was the result of past trauma and grief over a close relative passing away. I made all these appointments with a psychologist who then referred her for CBT. The referral took months. Once my daughter actually spoke with the therapist, after only a couple of sessions, they said they could not continue the therapy because she was not willing to participate. I wanted to force her to do it but the therapist explained that therapy is not as effective unless the individual wants to participate and there are other people waiting to receive services who are willing to participate. I ended up switching my daughter's school and actually a lot of the issues resolved.

I am a Black mother with a 14yo son. We come from a family who were hunters, but some are gun owners/collectors. It was important for us, as gun owners, to educate our kids on the WHY, HOW & WHEN. But never the WHERE! It took him turning a certain age and understanding before he was given a cap gun. Georgia has very relaxed gun laws. No safe storage laws, no red flag laws that would have allowed police to remove any weapons from that home. The politicians are therefore complacent in this crime. Charge them as well.

There may be a domestic abuse situation at the bottom of all this... and when she left, he kept the son to "turn him into his version of a "real man". These are all conjectures, and very painful things to be even considering, but with my multiple experiences of domestic abuse - as a child, adult, bystander, project worker and survivors group member - it feels horribly plausible.

The Crumbleys are/were pretty terrible. They had a fairly long history of ignoring their kid's KNOWN mental health issues and even texted back and forth about it.... which helped then to get more jail time. Oh, and after hearing about the incident, they also abandoned their kid, extracted funds from bank accounts, and hid from LE for days. They were like cartoon parents, but worse.
