In Henk corner of the music industry it was taboo to use distortion in your vocals. Floor had to convince him it was OK. Henk has commented that if he'd used distortion in his stage performances he probably would have gotten fired.

They make an awesome combination. I met her last year at my work, without knowing it was her at first. I asked what brought them into town, and she Rammstein concert and delayed flight. I said, "couldn't get tickets for a show in Europe?".She laughed. Then it dawned on me. She wasn't offended and actually didn't expecr recognition. She, her companion, and I ended up having a great conversation for about 20 minutes before they left for the airport.

They celebrate each others career by making a special version of the other's success song. Best for starting Nightwish is Ghost Love Score from the Wacken Open Air 2013. Henk Poort is a dutch opera singer...and of course he nails the role of the Phantom because he has performed that role on stage for years. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself once said that Henk Poorts performance was the best. Beste Zangers (translates to Best Singers) is a show where famous singers perform songs for each other. But they don't sing just their regular repertoire - one person is the "focus" each evening and the others perform songs that are either part of the repertoire of the focus person, was written by by him/her or has a special meaning for them. I recommend checking out more stuff from the show because it's all very good. The funniest performance was from the 2018 edition of Beste Zangers though in my opinion: Maria Fiselier, an opera singer, performing Eminem's Lose Yourself. That one was fun.

It can be a cover of one of their songs or a song that means something to them. The last show is for duets. Floor did this show because of Henk. She saw him on Dutch TV when she was young singing this song and when she heard he was on the show she signed up too. She also sings a song in German (to Henk) and one in Spanish (for Rolph Sanchez) that are both amazing.
Floor saw Henk at the theatre, performing the musical The Phantom of the Opera. Her parents took her and her sister when they were children. From that moment on Floor knew she wanted to be a singer herself.

To get things straight: the show brings (the best) singers from different genres together that otherwise might never meet. In this case Floor (Metal) and Henk (Opera/Musical theater). Since NW used to have this song in a Metal version (before Floor joined NW) and Henk used to be the Dutch Phantom in the official Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical, they were a perfect match. They met half way in between Metal and Musical. Fun fact: Floor went to see Henk as the Phantom when she was 13yo and was fan of musical theater ever since. The band you see in the back is the Marcel Fischer band (session musicians) that did all music for all song on the show. When Floor decided to do a solo concert she booked them straight away.

The distortion he uses in this song was a follow on from that. Worth checking out Henk's Sound of Silence and the enraptured face of Floor as he sings it to her (worth finding the extended video with the introduction by the show presenter and reading the subtitles for the fuller story)
This particular episode was not focused on Floor but it was a duet episode but yes she did have an episode with her in the hot seat with all focus on her in which Henk sang 'Sound of Silence' 🙂

Henk Poort is a classical trained baritone who was THE Phantom of the Opera In the Netherlands in the 1990s. he is floors idol (she saw him in theater and fell in love), shes looking at hi m that way for she is fangirling. hes the reason she is classical trained also. his growling is done especially for her. the show is as follows there are 6 singers from different genres. every singer gets 1 evening for himself where the others sing for them either their songs or songs that are special to them. the last show is where they sing duets with eachother. in this season (2019) the first evening was for henk and was started with floor singing for him. this song was the last of the season so they started and ended the season together. it was in my opinion the best season ever even tho the others are awesome too. you should really check out that show. the band is one of the best they are so awesome in every genre. you you really should check out that show

So glad to see another person discover the powerhouse that is Floor, our Valkyrie Queen. I subscribed so I can enjoy your move toward Nightwish, BUT ... Floor's cover of "Shallow" on this show, and the solo covers she did from home during the early days of COVID ("Alone", "Let It Go", "Adagio") are also supremely powerful examples of her strength and versatility. At some point (if he hasn't already), General Gabriel will chime in with a background of Floor and the Nightwish band, and will supply a pretty bullet-proof suggestion of videos to transition you into the band with ease. By the time this show was recorded and broadcasted, Floor wasn't well known even in NL through the show she became very popular, not only in NL, because of reaction channels. But not only Floor became more popular, also Nightwish did.
Floor her first concert after Corona was on wednesday september 1st 2021 and i was there and Henk Poort was special guest and it was great! Floor sings some amazing songs on this show as she sings for each of the other singers plus two duets. Personal favourite is her solo performance of Shallow by Lady Gaga. But you really need to hear singing with Nightwish to get an idea of her exceptional versatility.
Aside from regular Nightwish songs I also really recommend the acoustic version of "How's the Heart" if you want to hear more of Floor's incredible talent. She's a rare singer who does not need any pitch correct.

@@bertjones3010 No comparison. Riff Raff doesn't have such a rough voice in the film, the role is too submissive. The phantom is not a servant. The phantom is ready to kill and you can hear that from Marko. Many other versions just want to sing beautifully.

It's two different songs - both sounded like they were singing through their nose - and, in fact, I didn't even know it was Marko until later cause it didn't sound like the Marko I knew from 2013.
On Beste Zangers 2019 Henk said that he would only do the duet with Floor if he could perform the song with Floor and Nightwish in Amsterdam and Floor said yes. Then Covid hit and the shows were cancelled so it took up to last year before Nightwish were again playing in Amsterdam and a promise made was a promise kept, Henk joined Nightwish as a surprise guest to a sold out show in Amsterdam playing Phantom for the first time in 17 years. Then at short notice the support act for Metallica couldn't play at the Johan Cruyff stadium so they asked Floor to open the show for them and Floor brought Henk with her to open for Metallica this year. At that time she had just been offered the permanent spot in the band, replacing the second singer Anette Olzen. The official statement came letar that year. And as it was already mentioned by others, the guy, Henk Poort, is a Dutch actor and opera singer who actually played the Phantom of the Opera back in the 1990s, in the official stage production at Amsterdam. It is hard to say what Nightwish song is best to start with, since the band has a very wide spectrum of different songs. "Ghost Love score" is one of their biggest masterpieces and often reacted to here on RUclips. But since you are coming from a Metal direction, I would recommend "Weak Fantasy" to you as an introduction to them - especially one of the 2014 / 2015 live performances at Tampere (Finland) or London Wembley. I think it's fair to say that now Ash is being introduced to female metal singers she may not want to listen to pop singers anymore (if that is her normal genre). Listen to Floor's version of Shallow from this same show. Next up after Nightwish, introduce her to Epica.
My recommendation is Everdream, Ghost love score, Story time then Romantacide or Song of myself. Then bring on Dark chest of wonders. All from Wacken 2013.

Henk Poort is a solo opera singer and he did played the leading role in The Phantom of The Opera musical in the 90's. The band who is playing is the band of the TV show. The TV show Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is a TV show who is bringing different singers together and they singing there favorite songs.
Her husband is from Sweden, and they also live there. The band Nightwish is from Finland. Floor and Hannes lived in Finland, but moved to Sweeden years ago. They have a six yo daughter and currently a second child on the way.

Both are kind of ballads and are often compared as equal masterpieces - but the real masterpieces comes later, while they demands some preparing 😅. Beste Zangers (translates to Best Singers) is a show where famous singers perform songs for each other. But they don't sing just their regular repertoire - one person is the "focus" each evening and the others perform songs that are either part of the repertoire of the focus person, was written by by him/her or has a special meaning for them.
I recommend checking out more stuff from the show because it's all very good. The funniest performance was from the 2018 edition of Beste Zangers though in my opinion: Maria Fiselier, an opera singer, performing Eminem's Lose Yourself. That one was fun.

Nice Reaction! This show is all Dutch singers from different genres of music and each show a different singer sits on the center couch and all of the others sing songs to them. It can be a cover of one of their songs or a song that means something to them. The last show is for duets. Floor did this show because of Henk. She saw him on Dutch TV when she was young singing this song and when she heard he was on the show she signed up too. She also sings a song in German (to Henk) and one in Spanish (for Rolph Sanchez) that are both amazing.
Floor saw Henk at the theatre, performing the musical The Phantom of the Opera. Her parents took her and her sister when they were children.
From that moment on Floor knew she wanted to be a singer herself.
Hank Poort is an opera singer who played the Phantom in major productions. If I remember correctly he is one of Floors inspirations. She agreed to do the show because he was going to be on it. I could be wrong but I read an article that stated that.
To get things straight: the show brings (the best) singers from different genres together that otherwise might never meet. In this case Floor (Metal) and Henk (Opera/Musical theater).
Since NW used to have this song in a Metal version (before Floor joined NW) and Henk used to be the Dutch Phantom in the official Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical, they were a perfect match. They met half way in between Metal and Musical.
Fun fact: Floor went to see Henk as the Phantom when she was 13yo and was fan of musical theater ever since. She was reluctant to participate on this show until she heart Henk was going to be there.
The band you see in the back is the Marcel Fischer band (session musicians) that did all music for all song on the show. When Floor decided to do a solo concert she booked them straight away.
Henk is a trained opera singer who for a long time played the Phantom in Holland and is said to be Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom. Floor was a fangirl of his since her teens when she first saw Phantom of the Opera. This was a dream come true for her to sing with Henk in this character.
This whole episode was focused on Floor and earlier in the show there is an amazing cover of Sound of Silence by Henk where he secretly learned to add distortion to his vocals - something that would get an opera singer sacked immediately - as a present to Floor. The distortion he uses in this song was a follow on from that.
Worth checking out Henk's Sound of Silence and the enraptured face of Floor as he sings it to her (worth finding the extended video with the introduction by the show presenter and reading the subtitles for the fuller story)
This particular episode was not focused on Floor but it was a duet episode but yes she did have an episode with her in the hot seat with all focus on her in which Henk sang 'Sound of Silence' 🙂

Henk Poort is a classical trained baritone who was THE Phantom of the Opera In the Netherlands in the 1990s. he is floors idol (she saw him in theater and fell in love), shes looking at hi m that way for she is fangirling. hes the reason she is classical trained also. his growling is done especially for her. the show is as follows there are 6 singers from different genres. every singer gets 1 evening for himself where the others sing for them either their songs or songs that are special to them. the last show is where they sing duets with eachother. in this season (2019) the first evening was for henk and was started with floor singing for him. this song was the last of the season so they started and ended the season together. it was in my opinion the best season ever even tho the others are awesome too. you should really check out that show. the band is one of the best they are so awesome in every genre. you you really should check out that show

Floor her first concert after Corona was on wednesday september 1st 2021 and i was there and Henk Poort was special guest and it was great! Floor sings some amazing songs on this show as she sings for each of the other singers plus two duets. Personal favourite is her solo performance of Shallow by Lady Gaga. But you really need to hear singing with Nightwish to get an idea of her exceptional versatility.
Aside from regular Nightwish songs I also really recommend the acoustic version of "How's the Heart" if you want to hear more of Floor's incredible talent. She's a rare singer who does not need any pitch correct.

In my mind there are strong connections between classical opera singing especially from the end of the nineteenth century and heavy metal.
Every single one of her performances from this show are incredible. Multiple people are brought to tears, and for good reason.

@@bertjones3010 No comparison. Riff Raff doesn't have such a rough voice in the film, the role is too submissive. The phantom is not a servant. The phantom is ready to kill and you can hear that from Marko. Many other versions just want to sing beautifully.

It's two different songs - both sounded like they were singing through their nose - and, in fact, I didn't even know it was Marko until later cause it didn't sound like the Marko I knew from 2013.

On Beste Zangers 2019 Henk said that he would only do the duet with Floor if he could perform the song with Floor and Nightwish in Amsterdam and Floor said yes. Then Covid hit and the shows were cancelled so it took up to last year before Nightwish were again playing in Amsterdam and a promise made was a promise kept, Henk joined Nightwish as a surprise guest to a sold out show in Amsterdam playing Phantom for the first time in 17 years. Then at short notice the support act for Metallica couldn't play at the Johan Cruyff stadium so they asked Floor to open the show for them and Floor brought Henk with her to open for Metallica this year.

Great reaction from missis - Loved it. I guess that the best way of introducing Floor in Nightwish is to start with "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken Open Air 2013. At that time she had just been offered the permanent spot in the band, replacing the second singer Anette Olzen. The official statement came letar that year. She joined the band mid US-tour replacing Anette in October 2012 and this was the first really big show on the European tour 2013 (August 3rd).

And as it was already mentioned by others, the guy, Henk Poort, is a Dutch actor and opera singer who actually played the Phantom of the Opera back in the 1990s, in the official stage production at Amsterdam. It is hard to say what Nightwish song is best to start with, since the band has a very wide spectrum of different songs. "Ghost Love score" is one of their biggest masterpieces and often reacted to here on RUclips. But since you are coming from a Metal direction, I would recommend "Weak Fantasy" to you as an introduction to them - especially one of the 2014 / 2015 live performances at Tampere (Finland) or London Wembley. I think it's fair to say that now Ash is being introduced to female metal singers she may not want to listen to pop singers anymore (if that is her normal genre). Listen to Floor's version of Shallow from this same show.

Yes you are a little bit misled. Floor is the female lead singer of the Finnish metal band Nightwish. Yes she is Dutch, but her boyfriend is a from Finland and they live in Finland. Henk Poort is a solo opera singer and he did played the leading role in The Phantom of The Opera musical in the 90's. The band who is playing is the band of the TV show. The TV show Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is a TV show who is bringing different singers together and they singing there favorite songs.
Her husband is from Sweden, and they also live there. The band Nightwish is from Finland. Floor and Hannes lived in Finland, but moved to Sweeden years ago.
They have a six yo daughter and currently a second child on the way.
