The ‘phone socket’ is for Voice over LTE (long term evolution = 4G,5G etc). Not all ISP providers enable it, some in overseas territories do. The older style 4G LTE routers would allow you to use the phone socket for VOIP services, you just have to set it up in the user interface which you access via a web based page (same one you use to access the Wi-Fi settings etc). You will need a VOIP account with a suitable provider. I used Sipgate for some time, but it won’t work now due to an upgrade in the protocols. It’s handy to have a ‘landline’ number and router via 4G/5G at times. You are still reliant on a reasonable and reliable cellular signal though.
I've had it for about a yr now - I'm on a 2 yr contract, which costs £20 pm and I got the first 3 months for free. I get 4G most of the time with a speed of 40 to 50 Mbs which is fine for streaming and most of my needs and sometimes late at night it flips over to 5G and the speed goes up to 150 ish. My data is unlimited. I also have my mobile phone contract (sim only) with 3, which costs me £5.50 pm and 1Gb of data. Overall for about £26 pm I'm quite happy and I've had no problems with either mobile broadband or phone - but having said that I know some people have had problems, especially if ordered online as opposed to going to the Three shop.
Thanks for the info. About 3 weeks in now. I get 200mbit + all the time. No down time yet. Yeah, I've got a 2 year contract as well, £24/month, £12 for first 6 months, but also used topcashback, that was £76 back (gone up to £90 odd back now). Very happy so far. Fingers crossed! Got mine online, so hopefully no issues! Cheers!
@@robz16 Hi there, 3G is a fair bit slower than 5G, and 100GB is the amount of data you get - this is unlimited data at 300mbit (speed) - On home broadband, you download one game, and these days that's 100GB gone! Cheers!
I ve been using Three s 5G Home broadband service for the past 2 years and I can say I m pretty happy with it. Signal between -78 and -85 dbm. Speed is more that what VDSL could ever offer, next upgrade would be full fibre when citylink decides to connect my building to the network.
Thanks for the comment. I guess you're end of contract if it's been 2 years. How are Three when it comes to contract renewal? Do they give a good deal, or force the cost up by not offering deals the second time? Cheers!
@Tech-Nerdrome my out of contract price is the same as during contract, so I m not even gona bother renewing it. They ve over sold 5g here and can't get new contract even if you wanted to. Good thing is speeds are still good. Maybe they will upgrade the mast so they can take new customers in
Hmm. Just realised I have a three 5g post about 30 meters away. Broadband didn’t occur to me! Probably explains why Openreach has no plans in my area to do FTTP.
I get on average 500-600 mbps! I’ve had up to and over a thousand! I do have a 5g mast about 100 meters away in direct sight,so I’m guessing that makes a huge difference. I couldn’t be happier.
I've seen just over 900mbit on a good day. I'm about 300 meters from the tower. Usually it's 5-700. There are down sides though. The MTU size on their network is quite small and causes issues with certain things. Some online games and VPNs won't like it. For the £20 it cost me (gone up to about £21.50 now!) it's a bargain. If you want these speeds on fibre it would be double that.
when i tried this router i get problems with wifi. So it is not possible to be on different networks. You cannot, for example, ping a computer that is connected on 2.4 Ghz to another computer that is on the 5 Ghz network. Not or if you are connected via the Rj45 connection. seems to be missing a bridge to 2.4Ghz wifi in the router itself. Note ...all networks come out on the internet.
Not noticed that myself. Have you split the networks into separate 2.4 and 5 GHz with their own SSID? If so, maybe that's the reason? I've had other routers in the past, which I split for various reasons, and yes, the two were treated by the router is separate networks. Mine is still combined, and I have a wifi printer (which is definitely on 2.4ghz coz that's all it has! ) My PCs on WiFi n/ac, so on both 2.4 and 5 as suits have no problem printing to it. Was going to do a follow up video soon, so will investigate further! Cheers!
something has happened to three broadband we used to get a really good signal but now everywhere i go its got bad connectivity sub 4g the best dropped at worse to 1 mbs im sure its something to do with the 2g - 3g swichoff, when you speak to them all they say is the local antenias are over loaded, what everywhere, and no its not the modem as multiple different brands have the same issue including phones,
We're still getting a good signal, although I have heard that 3 may of "oversold" their services in some locations, leading to the slow down. Hopefully, if that is the case, they'll get on top of it and increase the capacity of those masts. Cheers!
Same here. I got mine over 2 years ago. Was getting between 200-400Mbps for first 18 months, then it slumped to under 150Mbps which they claim is the network average for downloads, then the last 3 to 4 months it has tumbled to under 50Mbps and during the day we have had it as low as 2Mbps! They are useless to deal with. Always put you through to India who just make things up. I've had months of near unusable internet. Just had Vodafone 500Mbps fibre installed which works 😃 My advice to anyone thinking of buying is avoid if you have a smart home or download heavy/gaming files. For very light users it might be ok.
The cellular cell capacities have a finite limit, particularly on the number of users it supports and the amount of data they are using. I used to work on the cell systems a few years ago. The closer you are to the mast it will support your connection speed, albeit throttle it under high demand from others subscribers. There is an effect known as ‘cell shrinkage’ where the most distant users will be dropped by the cell first although your equipment will claim enough signal. This is because it can’t support all subscribers at once if demand outstrips supply. You will still be connected but the data will dry up or slow. It will try to ‘hand off’ your connection to another cell, but this is not always possible due to distance and data loads.
Question 1) Do I use my pre existing Three sim card ( which I pay 20 euros/month for unlimited 5g)? or does it come with brand new Three sim card? 2) If I don't get decent 5G speed inside my house through the existing sim card, what are the chances the broadband might increase it?
Hi, it comes with a different SIM card as it has it's own tariff. If you can't get decent 5G speeds with your current 3 5G SIM, I'd guess this would be the same as it's using the same network, unless you're phone has a poor aerial / faulty. Cheers!
@@Tech-Nerdrome Thanks for the clarification. My phone just works fine if it's on a window. Otherwise inside the house it just bad. Maybe I'll consider of getting the broadband.

Hi mate, I'm in a similar position in terms of the distance away from the mast. This router sucks for WiFi. I'd recommend trying to put it into modem mode (which it does support) and getting a good WiFi router, I can pull 1 Gbps from it using my own WiFi 6E router. Give it a go on ethernet and see what speeds you get.
Nice! Unfortunately all my ethernet ports and cards are 100mbit - not got a gig card to try. I'm now discovering my network is a bit antiquated!
