    something has happened to three broadband we used to get a really good signal but now everywhere i go its got bad connectivity sub 4g the best dropped at worse to 1 mbs im sure its something to do with the 2g - 3g swichoff, when you speak to them all they say is the local antenias are over loaded, what everywhere, and no its not the modem as multiple different brands have the same issue including phones,

      We're still getting a good signal, although I have heard that 3 may of "oversold" their services in some locations, leading to the slow down. Hopefully, if that is the case, they'll get on top of it and increase the capacity of those masts. Cheers!

      Hi, unfortunately, probably not. If you are in a poor reception area, then that is going to limit you. You maybe better off getting a standard fibre connection if available? Question 1) Do I use my pre existing Three sim card ( which I pay 20 euros/month for unlimited 5g)? or does it come with brand new Three sim card? 2) If I don't get decent 5G speed inside my house through the existing sim card, what are the chances the broadband might increase it?

      Hi, it comes with a different SIM card as it has it's own tariff. If you can't get decent 5G speeds with your current 3 5G SIM, I'd guess this would be the same as it's using the same network, unless you're phone has a poor aerial / faulty. Cheers!

The MTU size on their network is quite small and causes issues with certain things. Some online games and VPNs won't like it. For the £20 it cost me (gone up to about £21.50 now!) it's a bargain. The proprietary fan connector on the dell board is still just a PWM header with a pointless extra pin (it's not even used for anything). One can easily adapt it to a standard 4pin PWM connector (easier still if you have a dell fan kicking around to cut the connector off of) instead of using junk molex fans with zero ways of controlling them. Throwing "dell fan header pinout" at your favorite search engine helps. Also 7:23 just re-pin the front panel connector instead of buying adapters. it's not rocket science. As for what to do with it... turn it into the worldst most ghetto Hackintosh maybe? Probably needs an older version of OSX though. Can't tell you how far back you need to go for that as I throw everything older than 6th gen intel at the e-waste container cause I have no room to keep all of that old junk

      Hola. Lo siento, me ha costado encontrar información sobre esa PC, en particular sobre su placa base. Incluso si usa piezas ATX estándar, esa PC solo tenía una fuente de alimentación de 350 W, que tal vez estaba más orientada a 3,3 V y 5 V, como era normal en ese momento. La fuente de alimentación puede tener dificultades para proporcionar suficientes amperios de 12 V a las CPU modernas, ¡sin siquiera pensar en una GPU!, por lo que si la carcasa es ATX estándar, prácticamente todas las demás piezas deberían ser reemplazadas... ¡Salud! Hi there, Sorry, I have struggled to find any information on that PC, in particular it's motherboard. Even if it uses standard ATX parts, that PC only had a 350W PSU, which maybe geared more towards 3.3V and 5V as was normal at the time. The PSU may struggle to provide enough 12V amps to modern CPUs, not even thinking about a GPU!, so if the case is standard ATX, pretty much all other parts would need to be replaced...... Cheers!

    The power-supply expenditure justifies a coule of sticks of 50p 4GB RAM to make it 8GB. An HBA for 2 SATA ports per PCIe 1x slot allows more drives. Therefore squeezing in between 5 and 8 old HDDs _(preferably identical such as 2.5 inch xbox360 HDDs)_ allows for BTFRS or ZFS _(much of the work for which is done in RAM)_ which allows snapshots. Even if that boot drive remains that HDD of a different type, the other 4 to 7 Drives could be the ZFS _(or BTRFS pool)_ whereby 1 or 2 drives are for indexing and the rest are for data. This then gives this PC a different reason to exist and that is to put a linux or BSD operating system on it which does not get so much attention _(like say T2-ReneRebe-Linux or GhostBSD or OpenBSD)_ and then make a small contribution in quids to let them know you are using it (like telemetry)._ Then use some basic software in it for a easy task _(e.g. GIMP software to convert a JPEG of a wildlife photo into greyscale once a month or instead use software LibreOffice to keep a spreadsheet of your fantasy-football team or highscores of a super-tux-kart game or whatever very easy 'task' to update once a month for a few minutees or perhaps use BibleTimeESword),_ and ensure you run updates and make snapshots before you do. Then tell everybody you are doing it. For the rest of the month power-down the machine _(or leave in in a low-power state)._ The point is however that, once a month, for a menial task, you are technically using the PC and also the quids that were once given and the 'advertising' for the operating-system allow update and user-statistics to keep the OS of choice going at very little effort to yourself. Every now and then as an "extra" either in a video for 30 seconds at the end or as a written post on the operating-system community site, mention how the computer is behaving since updates _(with a time and date stated)_ even if it is simply _"working-fine-as-usual-each-month"_ One last thing is to put a RCD (Residual Current Device) or multiple-gang-socket with circuit-breaker safety in it just to keep it going out of caring for the person who writes that OS. My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.

      Definitely a potentially good use for it. Not sure I can justify a "big-box" PC to do that though unfortunately, as space is a bit of a premium.....! When I build PCs I generally either have to get rid of them quickly (Sell / give away), or break back down into parts for more efficient storage :(

    • @obsoletepowercorrupts
      @obsoletepowercorrupts 2 месяца назад

      @@Tech-Nerdrome Solely a suggestion here: Just in case you do give it away _(and BTW 4GB RAM will do, even though 8GB is significantly better, especially for the 50p price of sticks),_ you could perhaps give it away to a person with such an OS already installed on it _(like those listed above or one form perhaps the FSF Free-Software-foundation page like Trisquel OS based upon Ubuntu or an i3 OS on the FSF site like Hyperbola)_ as ask that recipient person to do the few-quid-given thing. There are a bunch of web-browsers _(of varying licences, proprietary or Free-Open-source-Software)_ that could be installed on it before handing it to them like Chrome, Edge, LibreWolf, Gnome-Web, Ladybird, Vivaldi, Opera, iceweasel _(or firefox ESR with Thunderbird for RDF-Site-Summary feeds and say Claws-Mail),_ plus some other free softwares like say BSD license, Apache License and GPLv2 (and GNU concepts) or MIT such as OBS-Open-BroadcastStudio, Tomcat server, and Squid (Foundation) Server, PuTTY-FTP, 7Zip, GRSync, GNU Radio _(perhaps mentioning LoRaWAN),_ Ghost4LinuxG4L _(and Avogadro, Gnumeric, Abiword)._ Pre-installing Slackware _(with slackbuilds, and slackpkg configured and nix and NDISWRapperWifi for 32bit XP wifi drivers on some older 802.11 'g' or 'n' PCI-card or USB-dongle)_ for them could be an option, although whatever the Linux operating system _(other than maybe if using UFS for BSD)_ setting up CUPS and SANE with tesseract-OCR and GuvcviewCheeseCamera software and DVD+RW-tools and Brasero and blueman for bluetooth 2.1 for A2DP and EDR dongles, handing them a system image _(done twice in G4LGhost4Linux in multiple 2GB chunks as tar gzip files, two per DVD)_ on DVD-R disks in case they need recovery of the drive, and let the file-system be say XFS for snapshots, with SWAP space somewhere, even if an extra HDD has say ReiserFS. Having XFCE and KDE desktops (with Gnome) as options on startup can give the end-user some choice and a window-manager too. Then on that, all their ALSA sound settings are done and jack-audio and extra network (wifi perhaps) set-up like in the 'etc' directory, so in the rc.d the rc modules would have had your manual edits for the network devices. You could have WiresharkSoftware too. Vimwiki could be on there too with translations plugin addons for multiple languages. The idea would be that they get to have the nice caring thing to do to help the OS coders of their choice _(be it a BSD OS or Linux or OpenIndiana, whatever)_ and yet the PC is done for them when it is handed to them. If they have a M-F-A security hardware key for USB _(and those usually have RFID near field contactless),_ that too could be done for them and they can choose if the ever want to use OpenSSH and PuTTY or learn about a TTY session or BASH using fstab for USB mass-storage-devices via online documentation. My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.

    I got a hold of a Dell Optiplex 7010 but the case got damaged. System still works, but was wondering if the mobo and all might fit in a different brand of case! Thanks for the great DIY, parts used, snags, but it did work!!

      Hi, looking at the 7010 motherboard, I think you'd have exactly the same issues as this video. It would fit physically, but you would need to take the fans with it. Also the front panel connector from the case wouldn't fit (unless it was also a very similar dell model case). With a normal generic case, exactly the same issues as this video would apply. Cheers!

The case is similar in size to the 7010, but the back panel doesn't quite look the same. I'd recommend trying to put it into modem mode (which it does support) and getting a good WiFi router, I can pull 1 Gbps from it using my own WiFi 6E router.
