I had one of those back in the day. Ran at 1 ohm. When I bought it the shop would not set it up at one ohm and they said PPI stood for Pretty Poor Investment. I beat their house car after figuring out how to set everything up properly. It was a pretty good amp and ran for many years with no issues. Now im in my 40s and deaf as a doornail. Yea for me!
I never heard of the w4's, back in 92,93 I had the 12w5's dual 8ohm and in 99,00 when the w3's came out i was first in line, but never heard of the w4's, what's the specs
What was the big mono block Precision power amp? My buddy had that shit pushing 3 JL W6 10s in a ford exploerer, that shit was banging! He then bough tlike a 180amp altenator for that truck and it picked up a ton of power, so loud for what it was! Miss the 90s man those really were the days!
The first PC amps sounded beautiful and were well made. Only thing I didn't like was the fan cooling, which obviously helped a lot, but if you mount them in the cabin you can hear the fan which speeds up as the amp gets warmer.
Big D. I have a lot of experience with PPI growing up in Tempe Arizona and surrounding myself around car audio in Alma Gates back in the day. Something to note with the power class amplifiers. They will take a huge amount of input voltage and in doing so you will see some dramatic power gains. They say they are rated to accept up to 12 volts input but realistically they start to clip around 8.5 to 9 volts.
PPI incorporated pwm switching power supply, meaning you are able to achieve rated power no matter the voltage ( 11v to 15v) so u are not going to achieve NO more power by higher voltage, just distortions. I have a a 600.2 that has been on my wall for 25years
I had one bridged driving two of the last round solobarics that had chrome baskets,old car use to flex the back windscreen and bounce the wipers off the front screen.Great combo
I have the ppi pc 250, 450. ( have had both since the 90s in my civic that is almost done getting rebuilt.) I now have a pc2100, 2150 and a 650. I will be putting the 650 in for the 3 way fronts, and the 450 for the rears with the 2150 for my subs. Putting all my old gear back in my car. qm series 6.5 mb quarts in the back. 5.0lf boston pros in the front with matching tweets. Now i need a pair of old school 8 midbass. Any advice?
Power precision has been my favorite brand since i heard 10' pro they were pretty powerful subs. I recently ordered a ppi trax 2.800d amp.. haven't hooked it up yet. Its supposed to be 400 watts x2 rms im not sure if itll be that much but bought it because it was advertised as that much. Would like to see a video dyno of it.
I had 3 of these back in the day, Clarion 9255 head and Crossfire 3 way active x-over with 2 amps on MB Quart Q series mids and highs and the 3rd bridged on 2 JL 10W4D4 subs. I ended up replacing the 2 mid/high amps with a PC4100 and the 9255 with a Pioneer P1R. I sold the P1R, MBQ and amps long ago, but I still have the JL subs.
I hope you don't have those JL grills on them, because I have a triple stack 10w0 and a dual custom box with 2 10w0. Let them sit in the garage for around 10years. One day I decided to hook them up and all 5 JL 10w0 surround blew off. I called JL, and basically they told me to f off, we don't make nor carry the surround for that model any more and direct me to simply speakers.

@Dereck, somehow I missed the fact that on your dyno sheet for this amp it was stable enough to get numbers at both 2.67 and 2 ohms bridged??? Do you think it would go into protect seeing a reactive nominal load of 2 ohms (probably higher with box rise)? If stable, these amps are definitely "undercover cheaters"!
MSH68 I ran a PC2100 (the next level down) at 1ohm on 3 JL 10w6v1s for years. It went into protect only on very long road trips. I still have it, pushing a single 12w6v2 These amps were (are) absolutely incredible.
That power & ground though..... Those are some sad wires bro. Can we try some reducers & way bigger wire & try that again? Those were barely bigger than the remote. Lol
Love to find a ppi pc 21400 again Not even on eBay anymore ever anymore nor are the art a1200 series amps. These were very much elite series amps but very testy if mistreated
They do show up on ebay fairly often and if not that exact model the PC 2350 is it's predecessor so search for it as well. There are a few PPI groups on facebook as well that you would be able to find them through.

Hi, thanks for this vid. I got an 1800 chrome amp that get super hot, I swear enough to fry an egg. I have not ran it since that started happening in 2001. I think it probably needs a fan. Are they easy to get or will I have to retro fit. Hate to destroy my 1997 $700 dollars.
My buddy has a pc2600 chrome and it still works but he stopped using it because it has a mean turn on pop. Subs almost xmax from the pop. Would it be an easy repair?
I thought I heard the whine at 1kz during the dyno. I had the same thing happen with my RF 4.6x. You could hear the music in the amp. Weird would like to know what causes it...

+Timothy Hinton Yes, I agree an amp should meet rated power. This one is close, but I'd expect to see at least 600W bridged at 4 ohms, certified. It came up a little short

Vanessa Manrique depending on condition. If it’s clean and the seal on the back is still intact (not opened) and with all the plugs, I’d say around $300-$350. Hard to find any that have not been opened up for repair

Alex Mayer If it's a hybrid IC chip pretty sure your sol even in 2007 when I tried to get mine fixed there was one or two parts that could not be had ever again so I was told by a amp tech at a high end audio shop who repaired ppi and us amps for years

That’s very disappointing results for a $800 amp. At that same time you could buy buy an mtx 2300 for less money and get 3 times that much power. And the mtx and Rockford amps from that time would run 2 ohm mono all day. This basically failed at 2.67.
Oh by the way Precision Power 2100 it is for sale it's like brand new didn't stay in my truck but s*** maybe a year and yes for sale anybody interested hit me back ! And got2 punch 800 a2 I got two Power Acoustik class D 3000 I've got the hcca red 225 got a bridge and module for the old school Orion stars and moon. I got more amps then sense.

Franks Life Changes pc2600? Not sure if thats the biggest but my buddy had one powering a 12w7 and yeah that shit got loud.

I had an MTX 2300 that would ring with music playing. If I remembered correctly it was the power supply transformer.

The whine at 1kHz is not abnormal, but hearing music come from the amp itself is very strange. Hopefully an amp tech or designer can explain

mine was clamped at 875 at a lock db drag comp. is this normal?
+boosted970 If it was clamped when hooked up to speakers, then yes, this is normal. That 875 is VA, not watts. D'Amore Engineering has some good videos explaining the difference.

That’s very disappointing results for a $800 amp. At that same time you could buy buy an mtx 2300 for less money and get 3 times that much power. And the mtx and Rockford amps from that time would run 2 ohm mono all day. This basically failed at 2.67.

Oh by the way Precision Power 2100 it is for sale it's like brand new didn't stay in my truck but s*** maybe a year and yes for sale anybody interested hit me back ! And got2 punch 800 a2 I got two Power Acoustik class D 3000 I've got the hcca red 225 got a bridge and module for the old school Orion stars and moon. I got more amps then sense.
