I remember this song played when I was 14 yo. Started learning using acoustic guitar. Those days I only listen from radio and vinyl records. Learning from friends but not that good I never completed the song. I m 64.now start to play again with electric guitar and with youtube available I manage to learn and brush out my skills. Thanks to for sharing, I like your version. May God bless you and the family with continuous health.
Hi Tom .I learnt to play it rhythm and lead back in 1960.I had a great teacher .A 16 year old friend who is a world wide famous guitarist now at age 76 .Albert Lee.He was just starting out then and it took him weeks to teach it to me.Dont pick up.my guitar much these days but Apache is stuck in my brain .Cheers.
Jerry Lordan's song Apache is one of the greatest instrumentals. Yes Jorgen's version and the Venture's are close and I feel better than Lordan's original. They both use a "D" instead of the "Dm" (in Jerry Lordan's original composition) in the main riff's chord progression . . . Am D Am, Am D Am, D G D, Am D Am, were as the Shadows follow Lordan . . . Am D Am, Am D Am, Dm G Dm, Am D Am. Just better sounding to the ear :)
Absolutely the best way of teaching guitar playing. Wonderfully thoughtful , audibly stunning , taking care of student with every possible consideration . Thank you , master teacher !
I love the Ventures version, one of the first songs I learned on guitar. Even though the Ventures were basically a "Fender" group, the main part of the 60's was their Mosrite time. I picked up a 1965 Candy Apple Red Mosrite with a maple neck. LOVE playing it :)
@@thomasfoss9963 They had the Mosrite deal from 1963 to 1968, with "Ventures in Space" being the first album with Mosrites. That was their most visible time. All other times they played mainly Fender. Then in later years they had a signature model with Aria, and then finally Don's son began Wilson Brother's guitars, with a signature Venture's model. But even then Gerry usually played his Strat and Nokie his custom Hitchhiker (Mosrite looking but a different sound).
@@thomasfoss9963 Their early "classics" were recorded with Fenders. I like Mosrites, personally, and think they are cool but, other than Nokie, Bogle and Wilson have stated that they preferred their Fenders. Most notably, the Fender Jazzmaster. FWIW....
I salute you .great I am 76. simply bowled over. Compared to you we are kids.Superb finger movement. I have very short fingers .cant reach 4th and5th string fret easily and have to struggle
A gut wrenching testimonial, old timer; but, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi overcame having the tips of his fingers sliced off at a sheet metal plant, so your guitar playing dream is probably well founded and doable!🙂
Great job...Love the Jazzmaster... Just gave my 65 Sherwood Green Jazzmaster to one of my sons...after listening to this I may go get it back for a while..
Dude, you got my approval @ 57 sec for knowing how to do that, exactly as it originally was done! And if I may suggest, starting at 137 sec mute the strings with your right hand as you pick it and don't let it ring the note. Very nice cover.
Very nice! The Ventures were “The Bible” for players of my generation. Their version seems to be a cross between The Shadows’ version and that of Jorgen Ingman, who had the American hit version, in 1961. His is the one I relate to since no one over here had ever heard (or heard of) The Shadows. Their “Apache” was released before Jorgen’s and a monstrous hit in the UK. The Shadows were the UK’s Ventures, and revered just as much by those young guitarists over there, perhaps more so.
@@larrypower8659 Yes I know.. Theirs is the definitive version. I've been a fan of theirs since I was a kid, and they felt guilty about beating Bert to the number one spot, so they wrote a tune dedicated to him.. It was called "Mr guitar" 😃

Sounds just like the way I remember hearing it played by the 'Venture's'. My Dad used to play that album track over and over...lol! Great job as usual!

@@markbrown7103 I don't think I said anything about the "Avengers" or who wrote the song. I mentioned the "Ventures" who played songs that were all written by others to the best of my knowledge. But thank you kindly for the info. 👍

Thank you thank you thank you! I LOVE this song and The Ventures and The Shadows. I started learning this song years ago but was away from the guitar for a few years so I forgot most of it. But now I'm playing again. I have to say watching your video and presentation was wonderful. You nailed it perfectly and I love your format that shows the tablature. @ JEFF HUSSEY ~ Improvement? Maybe, but shouldn’t we just call it, ‘their Interpretation?” The Ventures were my guitar teachers back then, so I’m not knocking them in any way, believe me. I like this lesson a lot. It is interesting to hear the three separate hit versions: Shadows (1960), Jorgen Ingman (‘61, and the U.S. hit), and Ventures. Their ver- sion seems to be more like The Shadows, while Jorgen Ingman’s was a more ambitious one, technique-wise. I never even heard The Shadows UK version until later; it was Jorgen, then The Ventures for me. The Shadows were, in essence, the UK’s Ventures or vice versa. Like you, I prefer the boys from Tacoma. Ventures forever!!!
Thank you very much! A song from my youth, as well as Summertime Blues, which I recently learned. Really interesting to learn to play these myself now, when I've only just moved to electric guitar as an old man. Good arrangements, good Tabs, good lessons, stylish backgrounds.

Very nice playing, but I prefer the Shadows original version. Its much more relaxed and the feeling of Hank Marvin is unique. He knows to get high quality sound even with simple songs. But Ventures are different and you have done in this other kind of interpretation a great job. Go on, BRAVO !
