No they would have just reached the finals no one knows what would have been their fate in the final but in 2024 the cup was their two set batsmen less than run a ball needed and they bottled it
2011 WC was also a huge choke. They were the best team of the tournament and beat India. Should've chased it comfortably against NZ but just started choking big time.
I think 2007 t20 world cup deserves a mention. They had to chase a easy total of 150 something against India in the last of the super 8s. They didnt even need to chase it only a 126 would see them through on net run rate over NZ. But they failed to score that and ended up eliminated.

Australia winning this match and the match against afg in 2023 world cup solidified their next win. A necessary challenge, instilled that, if we can win this then we can any game against any team.
Not 400 but anything beyond 330 to 370 was achievable. A flat track sure but nz werent chasing down 350 plus that day. Same happened in 2023 wc semi final against India however no rain affected us and Indian batters fully made use of the conditions to bat nz out of the game on a flat track. SA completing 50 overs that day would have ended nz.
DLS did give them 15 more runs to defend. Also, they only had Behardien left in the lineup, so you can't say with certainty that rain costed them the match.
As a South African: 1999 and 2015 haunts us... Its the ones that we look on and think was this a nightmare? What makes them worse is that you still don't know what would happen in the finals if we had made it. I still have PTSD flashbacks. 2003 and 2022 are ones that make you angry. They are ones that we just made stupid decisions and shot ourselves in the foot where we didn't need. 2024, I think is disappointing and a big choke, but it's also against the best side in the world, against the best white ball bowler we have ever seen. And, as you said, we had an unbalanced side. So while its a pain, it doesn't "hurt" as much as the others.
I think its alzo important to remember that aus vs sa group stage match in which gibbs dropped a catch while celebrating. If steve waugh was out and aus had lost. They wont have qualified if the semi final was tied.
You missed 2002 Champions Trophy Semi Final. Gibbs was pasting the Indian attack all over the park. They are massively in front & end up losing from there. That was a massive choke. Of course dunno why 2000 KC, 2007 CWC etc. have been left out
I was just about to write that. 2007 WT20 was a huge shocker as SA won all their group stage matches, first two Super 8 matches against NZ and England, and finally lost to India by 37 runs getting eliminated behind India and NZ on account of a lower net run rate. A very underdiscussed choke by SA. PS: They were the hosts in that WT20.
The 1999 was the saddest for sure... Klusner was peak of lower order batting at that time... But this proved the aussies were not the best team... But they know how to be neck to neck and get ahead in their times...
Why was 2023 WC Semi not included? Top 4 collapse, saved by Klaasen and Miller, and they had Australia 7 down. That's atleast 20 on the overall scale imo.
I was 4 years old in 1999 and even I know that is where it started, I was 8 in 2003 and this was a world cup with my heroes at home, that one lingers in my memory. The 2015 one hurt me, growing up watching AB De Villiers and Dale Steyn and not seeing them do it was tough but I don't feel bad at all after breaking the semi final barrier finally only to be beaten by that Indian Team in the 2024 final.
South Africa needs to get a head coach like Ricky ponting for the world cups. Someone who has the fortitude and know how to keep calm under pressure. That which he can instill in the players. Losing from 30 of 30 was nothing short of a tragedy. If South Africa had played smartly maybe sent Rabada up the order to hit a few boundaries it would have released some pressure. How can you go from 30 of 30 to 16 off 6. 1999 they would have reached the finals But 2024 they would have won the world cup. That's the closest they had got of winning a world cup.
2011, Curse should be at least 5. Hashim Amla was batting the best he ever did. If you look at his dismissal in the game, Amla plays the ball with soft hands and it hits the wicket-keeper's (McCullum then) shoe and bounces very high in the air for the slip to take it. To me, that was the moment RSA lost that game. Also, the 2015 one should have more points for choke. Simply because of their fielding in the game.
They wouldn't have won either way given Australia had just beaten them 4-1 in the odi series played just few months ago. And, they didn't even play with their full strength XI. Also, India and Pakistan had both beaten SA comprehensively in the group stage and Australia defeated both of them in sf and qf respectively.
It has to be 1999. It's not a curse or a major choke if they lose to Netherlands in a league game and bow out. They still need to win semis and final to win the cup. 1 run off 4 balls with klusener on strike, with a final against pakistan, thats the biggest choke/curse.
everyone talks about South Africa being a choker and India being new chokers (not now though after their T20 wc win). But no body talks about England which has lost 4 world cup finals.
11:00, i think choke points should be more, as they dropped an easy catch of Elliot by J.P. Duminy colliding into another player. Later on Elliot played snatched the match from them.
I saw 1999 live and I must confess absolutely shattered with what I saw. If RSA needed a 4 or 6 would have been much better as Klusner would have taken home.
Jarrod needs to do a similar analysis of India's record in ICC tournaments, especially over the last decade. I bet things will not look very different ! Even in the 2024 WCT20 final, India had almost lost the game till South Africa chose the most inopportune time to live up to their reputation and choke themselves !
Weirdly enough, before that semi final AB had taken 4 wickets and gone at under 6 rpo in the 2015 World Cup! He ended up with a better bowling average than Tahir, Philander or Steyn across the tournament
Yet people Kallis is the greatest player of all time better than Sobers. He is a bona-fide great legend. However when it came taking a game by the scruff of the neck, score quickly and win, he was lacking.
as the proteas fan the biggest disappointment has to be the 2022 dutch game & the reason for that is it was the NED no matter what we should have won that match & qualified for the semis,we could really have won that world cup
What about 2002 Champions Trophy semi final vs India ? That's another style/choke I'd imagine plus the curse of Gibbs retiring at the wrong time SA were cruising towards an easy win until the spinners choked their middle order
Without having any metrics, it is 2024. Why? It was the very first FINALS for SA - They went only as far as SF in all previous editions, even the 1999/2015 ones. And in 2024, you were SUPPOSED TO WIN in the LAST 30 minutes. And exactly lost there. It should be the nearest and yet the farthest, SA were ever to winning an ICC Trophy. You should have also added the ICC knockout 2000 SF to this list, which they lost against India (again), just after Gibbs scored a big hundred and they were like 192-2 needing a run a ball 60. So, in summary, Choke and Style in that order- are the major reasons why SA haven't yet won a major ICC trophy though they had such good chances (The only tournament they won was the inaugural ICC knockout trophy in 1998).
Since this is regarding heartbreaks, I feel you would have to factor in the stage of the tournament as well. In the 2024 finals they were 30 minutes away from winning the tournament and then they lost. 2022 and 2003 weren't even semis so even if they had won the game, we have no idea how far they'd have gone. 2024 was the worst in my opinion
No 1999 was the worst bcz sa literally was the best team of that wc , in 2024 wc india was clearly the best team nd the most balanced team with 8 batting options nd 6 bowling options
They might have been the best team in 1999, but finals is a one off game that could have gone either ways. There was no guarantee that they would have won that game. Where as 2024 was a final. They were literally 5 sensible overs away from winning the tournament
Here chocking specifically means losing from a winning position. So 2023 semi final wasn't chocking perse. There they lost fair and square. Most other instances they lost from a winning position... especially 2015, 1999 and 2024.
@@jayeshchoudhari4776in 1996 they didn't lose from winning position either. Brian Lara crushed them. They never looked like winning. Listen to him again, he is talking about most heartbreaking losses not biggest choke
@@jayeshchoudhari4776 he’s not talking about choking!! But trying to quantify which losses has chocking as a factor and by how much!! So both 2023 & 2007 knockouts games are missing without a valid reason!! Might just be an oversight!!
South Africa's defeat of 2024 finals didnt happen due to any unnatural causes. It was simply due to South Africa's limited batting resources. They had 30 balls , even after Klaasen got out, due to that "diversion", every world class squad has batting resources till no7. I didnt even see even a single allrounder, David Miller was the last leg South Africa was standing on. SA's bowlers simply, cannot bat. They have no batting experience after Klaasen or Miller. This is the biggest reason why South Africa lost. South Africa had 24 balls to make 26 runs after Klaasen's dismissal and no reason can grant South Africa any excuse of not doing that and denying the professionalism of Indian bowlers.
I was a 15 year old watching that match in 99 and as an Indian watching Lance Klusner cracking that bat like a whip was one of the best things i had ever seen, cant tell you the number of my friends who started batting like him just to fail but that match wow i was already celebrating that someone was going to knock the Aussies out because lets be honest everyone hated their cocky attitude but then somehow someway SA managed to loose that game, i shut off the TV in disgust and ran off to play Cricket😂
Still can’t forget the 1999 semifinal…….just like 2024 final it was South Africa’s game to lose. 1 run from 3 balls and klunsner on strike. Same in 2024 it was like what 30 from 30 and they fall like piniada. Feel sometimes sad for them being an Indian fan. But we have our own misery.
World cups are tragedies for South Africa. They need to come out of the state like they need to get someone like Ricky pointing who knows how to win in these crucial moments. Makram is the best captain they have who has the experience of winning under 19 world cup. Imagine if South Africa had lost against Australia in the finals instead of India. They would have literally broken down. Like New Zealand South Africa also has mental breakdown against Australia in the knockout matches. Losing against India might have somehow mellowed down a bit. If losing a final against Australia from that position would have literally crushed them.
1999 and 2024 would also be top because they had like the best or second best team and they lost to the best team which won the cup. Many other cups they were ok and had shock losses from much lesser teams. But if you look at the whole 2024 campaign they were very close to doing that too. Could have lost to Nepal, Ban, Ned and maybe even US due to their lack of depth which ultimately hurt them in the end. So the style factor or the flawed approach is the biggest reason for their run. It was slow tentative batting of earlier era and now it is lack of depth in batting. Given that we have so many world cups now curse and pressure is going to reduce and if they correct it they will eventually win it. Get in some all rounders even flawed ones and then make a strong run again with Klassen and Miller at peak.
Everybody is talking about 1999 but their actually winning championship was 2024 without a shadow of doubt because they were just 30 runs away with 5 wickets in hand.
You missed out on 2 monumental chokes against India. First, inaugural ICC world T20 in South Africa; SA was unbeaten in the super six games and had to lose by less than 30/35 runs to qualify for semis and they missed out on that against not so strong Indian bowling + home conditions for SA. Second, champions trophy 2002 semi final in Sri Lanka when chasing 260 odd SA was in commanding position of 190/1 with Gibbs & Kaliis well set, Gibbs had to retire hurt due to cramp in forearms and then South African batting crumbled against spin & a couple of good catches by Yuvraj Singh…would love to see your analysis on those 2 games as well… btw love your channel! watching from Mumbai, India
I don't know why people are not talking about 2007 odi wc... Yes they were chasing 377 ,but they had a fantastic start with 160 is 20 odd overs and 220 is 30 with 8 wickets in hand... The only problem i saw was, "they did not believe"
Simply put the Style eventually causes the Choke. And there are some common things in the style across the different instances 1. Slow, defensive batting 2. Imbalance in team combination 3. Wrong decision making in terms of bowling changes, maybe fielding placements etc All these points to over-thinking, fear of failure, negative mindset, not trusting their own talent and skills. That's why they perform in other games but in knockout they don't. They become over-anxious to perform and that is their undoing.. India has the same problem with finals which hopefully with this win has gone away.
I feel they need to get someone like Ricky pointing who can change their mindset when they are under pressure how to perform cuz they need to get somebody who has the experience of playing a final and knockout medicine how to perform in that to your potential maybe they have the potential but they play timidly when it comes to knock out like you said fear of failure that should be taken out. I lost the innings of Ricky pointing the other day of 2003 finals Man what hitting he was playing Indian bowlers like club cricketers smashing them all around the ground. You literally need to boss the game from the beginning itself when crucial moments and never let the opposition get the better of you that's how you win the championships. In 2024 finals South Africa made blunders they send Maharaj ahead of rabada If rabada came and hit few boundaries do that is the pressure. They knew they had a shadow batting lineup Maharaj made 2 off 7. That's where they lost the game due to tactical error. You can have shallow batting lineup yet you can make the best utilization if you know the way to get around it. Imagine it was Australia who was in the situation of South Africa Would it be making sense to send Mitchell Starc when you need 26 off 24 or will you send the zampa or Hazelwood. Rabada is like your shaheen shah Afridi you give him the license to come and hit few sixes and boundaries just to ease the pressure so the match situation gets in your favor.
The only part I might disagree with in this analysis is the 2015 semi-final before the rain. Because for all money, AB was gearing up to go into overdrive and take South Africa to 350+ ( perhaps) And, scoring that amount of runs for that long, I think New Zealand sink. Despite Vernon's floaters, despite South Africa's numerous missed chances. Of course, we'll never know but damn, they did had several chances to send Grant Elliot and New Zealand packing, albeit to a relatively short trip home. Considering the chances they missed, almost seems like a curse disguised as choky moments.
Can remember series such as Titan cup, CUB series in 1997, 1999 mini World Cup, 2002 champions trophy. As a SA fan we are used to these shocks. A score like 33/5 and seeing Boucher and Pollock batting before 10th over also a common thing. They make weaker bowlers of opponent teams like demons. They hadn’t had a match winner until AbDe..
You missed the SF loss to Australia in 2023 CWC. 1. Rain didn't play a direct part, but it was overcast - perfect conditions for the Australian quicks to exploit. I'd give it a 5/10. 2. You would choose to bat eight times out of ten at the Eden Gardens, and try to build a big score - like India did against SA in the group stage game. But deciding to bat first when the conditions were overcast against the best pace trio in the world, and playing ultra defensive cricket, being reduced to 24/4 in ten overs is just bad style. 10/10. 3. Even though Coetzee and Shamsi made it interesting with their bowling performances, the Australian openers had done enough to put them on the driver's seat early on in the second innings. 6/10 on curse. 4. They didn't choke as much, but I'd rate QdK's dropped catch of Cummins as one. That was the moment to put Australia under even more pressure. 3/10.
Heart breaks should've become habit to SA fans.. Me as a Indian fan I start preparing for heart break as soon as Semi starts.. and it would be a great surprise and jubilation when India makes it..😂😂😂
Problem is south africa loose in a manner where they loose the match from a winning position . In india case ,we actually know ,if our team is going to win or loose by seeing how they are playing on the given . In the 2023 ODI ,we saw the team lost all hope in finals against head but in the 2024 T20 world cup ,our team didn't lost hope even after klassen monstrous batting and match coming to 30 out of 30. This team risk it to win it.
I was 13 in 1999. Anyone born say 1990 or before will never forget the sheer cruelness and mayhem of that day. It is the quintessential, seminal, defining curse and choke moment. The only moment in cricket that comes close is NZ in 2019 when Stokes's deflection goes for 4 overthrows, and they tie twice, but lose on a fairly arbitrary tie-breaker. That was an especially cruel way to lose a 2nd consecutive final.
1999- you cannot lose that game at any cost when u need 1 from 3... 2011-Pressure n choked...They got under huge pressure unnncessarily 2015- oh man! You have more than enough runs on the board..The way they bowled n fielded was proper choke n panic 2024- This was ridiculous...we indians were hoping that sa will choke at sometime but man did they put some fight..As an indian i thought as they cross the semi final curse they will win the frst title. They hav got nothing to lose but choked epic... Sa will.never win a title. Rcb n sa will never win proper chokers
2023 sa wasn't a better team then india or aus , they were winning just by batting first on flat wickets ,they almost choked against pak chasing that'y they choose to bat first when there was so much rain before the match that made the pitch seemar frndly so it was a wrong decision by them they should have bowled first but they didn't bcz they were afraid of chasing any score
@@swapnilmishra3537 Sa might have been a better team than Aus. Aus recently have always found it difficult to win against SA. Just months before the WC, Aus lost the odi series to sa being on top at 2-0 to 2-3. 2017 odi series, Aus lost 0-5. 2019 cwc, they lost the group stage match which in turn dented their trophy hopes as they'd have played NZ in the semis. 2019-20 odi series, Aus lost 0-3. Even in the cwc23 group stage, SA toyed with Australian batters. So, SA were 13-2 H2H against Aus from the 2016-17 odi series till the semi final. Head, Starc and Cummins somehow bailed Australia out of the danger.
More or less agree with this random ranking. I was too young to understand what the hell happened in 1992 though I felt sad for that team. I don't remember much of 1996 except they looked clueless once Lara was up and running. In 1999, I damn near lost my mind in those last 2 overs - every ball was packed with drama. To this day, I do not understand why Donald and Klusener didn't have a chat after that first near runout from Lehman. Even though I am an Aussie supporter when SL isn't playing, I would have completely okay with that SA team winning the WC. That haunts me, and I am not even a SA supporter. Cannot imagine what SA fans who lived through that were going through. 2003, I was sure they were going to win because SL wasn't having a great WC at all - we barely scraped through and everyone, including Murali and Mahela and Sanath, were struggling. You can almost excuse the loss but to think one team has been bitten by math twice in WCs over the course of a decade? If that's not a curse, I don't know what is.
Can you do the same exercise for India from 2014 - 2023 now that we have ended the draught? It will be very heartbreaking to revisit but interesting to talk about the details at the same time
South Africa needs more all rounders in their current batting lineup because Jansen is a poor batter at number 7 . The South African domestic structure needs to start developing more allrounders. South Africa does not produce quality batters like Kohli , Warner, Buttler etc . Even in the 1990s, they did not have players like Mark Waugh , Saeed Anwar and Aravinda de Silva . Hence, they started creating allrounders and thus , in the 1990s they had great success in the ODI team because of allrounders like McMillan, Pollock, Klusener, Kallis, Crookes, Symcox and Cronje . They need to start developing more allrounders .
I think 2007 T20 loss to India was also a choke job. They need some 118 runs to qualify to semis and they couldn't achieve the objective. Also Hero Cup 93 Semifinal choke, Titan Cup 97 Final, CuB triseries in Australia 97/98 i think come into my mind as non- World cup chokes. Any thing else in ODIs or Test matches??
Even 2002 CT Semifinal vs India, where they were coasting and Gibbs was smashing Indian bowling all over. Even 2000 CT Semifinal choke vs India where Ganguly scored 100. Come to think of it, South Africa has choked the maximum vs India in Semifinals and Finals in WC, CT and Tri nation tournaments.
I am not too convinced with the definition and parameters for the choke. One does not always have to be ahead of the game to choke. They could choke within the first innings. Catches can be dropped earlier as well. And it would be very interesting to see if the “style” of play changed for the important matches, then that should be considered a choke as well. For example India losing the ODI world cup, they choked right in the beginning. In the wtc final against Australia, they choked in the first innings. They were never in the game after that.
No defeat for South Africa shall be bigger than what happened to them in 1999....they should have won the semifinal & the world cup...that was South Africa's best team of all time

Champions Trophy isn't a real trophy
Gibbs was a certified fixer 😂😂😂... everyone who follows cricket knows about him
@johnny123-v6q Gibbs was retired hurt in middle of sa innings after that they started to choke with kallis as usual playing a slow af innings.
@@bhutochakrabarti4173 kallis scored 97(133) which was not bad chasing 261
The 1999 was the saddest for sure... Klusner was peak of lower order batting at that time... But this proved the aussies were not the best team... But they know how to be neck to neck and get ahead in their times...
1999 beats any game, that was the best game of cricket ever played
Why was 2023 WC Semi not included?
Top 4 collapse, saved by Klaasen and Miller, and they had Australia 7 down.
That's atleast 20 on the overall scale imo.
Bavuma forgot he has spinner Maharaj
Makram got head first ball but not before the carnage
I was 4 years old in 1999 and even I know that is where it started, I was 8 in 2003 and this was a world cup with my heroes at home, that one lingers in my memory. The 2015 one hurt me, growing up watching AB De Villiers and Dale Steyn and not seeing them do it was tough but I don't feel bad at all after breaking the semi final barrier finally only to be beaten by that Indian Team in the 2024 final.
Imagine if in 1999 sa had won
Aus and saffas would have been equal on world cup trophy count.
1999 they would have reached the finals
But 2024 they would have won the world cup. That's the closest they had got of winning a world cup.
Amazing video. Jarrod Ji drawing normative stats for Choking is 👽
2011, Curse should be at least 5.
As an Indian, I couldn’t sleep for 2 days after witnessing the Klusener run out vs Australia
All started in 1999 semifinal when Australia gave curse to South Africa for live forever if u can't win that day u never win anything in future
That spell of shane warne in which he took quick wickets of Gibbs, Kirsten and Cronje in the space of like 9 balls is always on their mind.
2002 Champions trophy Semi final against India comes a close 2nd after the infamous 1999. Surprised that there was no mention on that 🤔🤔
They choked against India in 2002 champions trophy was a proper choke. That was also due to their style of batting.
Whenever i thought you'd erase and modify scores, you did that.. every single time
Very impressed.
Question Jarrod
Should curse be subtracted or added? Explain please whst do you think, if it can be reconsidered
Warne was a big factor in 1999 that's ignored here. Those 2 deliveries played on their mind a lot and hence style for me goes up
It has to be 1999.
Just a man and his whiteboard making an amazing video, filled with quality analysis and logic. You the Goat Jarrod ❤
Can't even imagine how a SA fan would feel watching this video.
11:00, i think choke points should be more, as they dropped an easy catch of Elliot by J.P. Duminy colliding into another player. Later on Elliot played snatched the match from them.
Ab missed a run out
De kock missed a stumping
Farhan Behar...Duminy collide...
@@shahezahmed9960 true
I saw 1999 live and I must confess absolutely shattered with what I saw. If RSA needed a 4 or 6 would have been much better as Klusner would have taken home.
Jarrod needs to do a similar analysis of India's record in ICC tournaments, especially over the last decade. I bet things will not look very different !
Even in the 2024 WCT20 final, India had almost lost the game till South Africa chose the most inopportune time to live up to their reputation and choke themselves !
Don't need a whole video for this one. Gotta be 1999
That's some sick Post-mortem Jarrod!
Weirdly enough, before that semi final AB had taken 4 wickets and gone at under 6 rpo in the 2015 World Cup! He ended up with a better bowling average than Tahir, Philander or Steyn across the tournament
Undoubtedly it has to be 1999 semi final..That was the best South African team till now..
Your analysis is amazing. Lot of respect for you.
Basically , it was Kallis or curse. Kallis needs his own column.
And JP Duminy continuing the pattern
Yet people Kallis is the greatest player of all time better than Sobers.
He is a bona-fide great legend.
However when it came taking a game by the scruff of the neck, score quickly and win, he was lacking.
as the proteas fan the biggest disappointment has to be the 2022 dutch game & the reason for that is it was the NED no matter what we should have won that match & qualified for the semis,we could really have won that world cup
Another example of choking : 1996 Titan Cup Final versus India . This tournament was a Triangular Series .
What about 2002 Champions Trophy semi final vs India ? That's another style/choke I'd imagine plus the curse of Gibbs retiring at the wrong time
SA were cruising towards an easy win until the spinners choked their middle order
Batting slowly in knockout game IS basically chocking under pressure. They chocked in most of these games.
The whiteboard is so better and clear today 👍
2023 odi semi final is missing
Should have someone like Chris Morris or Jp duminy no 7 player
Has to be 1999. But why wasn't 2023 Semifinal considered? They froze in that semifinal
Match raat ko khatam huaa tha to raat ko kon cricket khelne jata hai
For me it was 1999, and I’m not even South African.
RSA is extremelly lucky in Rugby and unlucky in cricket ...NZL unlucky in both lol 😂😂😂
@@shahezahmed9960 they had smith one of the best captain still could not do it.
Great video but I have to ask, why were certain tournaments left out?
The addition of columns tells it all.
2015 was a complete choke
2007 T20 world and Cricket World Cup missing
Awesome Video! would you please do same analysis of all the teams throughout ICC tournaments.
Everybody is talking about 1999 but their actually winning championship was 2024 without a shadow of doubt because they were just 30 runs away with 5 wickets in hand.
6 wickets
Two things looked common to me in most of the matches jack kallis & Jp Duminy's slow batting in important games and not able to finish the games.
Along with NZ they are the greatest team to never win a white ball tournament.
I don't know why people are not talking about 2007 odi wc... Yes they were chasing 377 ,but they had a fantastic start with 160 is 20 odd overs and 220 is 30 with 8 wickets in hand... The only problem i saw was, "they did not believe"
They chased 434 few months back 377 was actually lesser
Simply put the Style eventually causes the Choke.
And there are some common things in the style across the different instances
1. Slow, defensive batting
2. Imbalance in team combination
3. Wrong decision making in terms of bowling changes, maybe fielding placements etc
All these points to over-thinking, fear of failure, negative mindset, not trusting their own talent and skills.
I lost the innings of Ricky pointing the other day of 2003 finals
Man what hitting he was playing Indian bowlers like club cricketers smashing them all around the ground.
You literally need to boss the game from the beginning itself when crucial moments and never let the opposition get the better of you that's how you win the championships.
In 2024 finals South Africa made blunders they send Maharaj ahead of rabada
If rabada came and hit few boundaries do that is the pressure. They knew they had a shadow batting lineup Maharaj made 2 off 7. That's where they lost the game due to tactical error.
You can have shallow batting lineup yet you can make the best utilization if you know the way to get around it.
Imagine it was Australia who was in the situation of South Africa
Would it be making sense to send Mitchell Starc when you need 26 off 24 or will you send the zampa or Hazelwood.
Rabada is like your shaheen shah Afridi you give him the license to come and hit few sixes and boundaries just to ease the pressure so the match situation gets in your favor.
The key takeaway for me is the style of cricket from SA. And with the emergence of Klaasen maybe, just _maybe_ that will nudge in the right direction
Bru the fielding that day was so shit.
DLS added around 15 more runs to the target
Is there a reason you didn’t factor in the 2007 and 2023 ODI WC semifinals?
They weren’t favourites for the 2007 one, it wasn’t really a heartbreak. 2023 should’ve been in there tho
Jarrod just forgot SA was a semi finalist in 2023😂😅
Working hard for the tax deduction on that whiteboard.
2011-Pressure n choked...They got under huge pressure unnncessarily
2015- oh man! You have more than enough runs on the board..The way they bowled n fielded was proper choke n panic
2024- This was ridiculous...we indians were hoping that sa will choke at sometime but man did they put some fight..As an indian i thought as they cross the semi final curse they will win the frst title. They hav got nothing to lose but choked epic...
Sa will.never win a title. Rcb n sa will never win proper chokers
They do already have one CT title but no world cups yet. And, might never win given cricket is now ded in SA
2023? Did you really forget about a whole world cup?
In 1999 they did a Nigel Tufnell and turned the choke up to 11.
2023 semi final crying in the corner :D
Every match has been sad ...
Great analysis, but I guess it’s time to give that whiteboard a deep clean 😅
For the first time mr kimber: "I don't agree"
Can you do the same exercise for India from 2014 - 2023 now that we have ended the draught? It will be very heartbreaking to revisit but interesting to talk about the details at the same time
Excellent video
The hardest loss was 2015. In fairness, they should of defeated NZ.
Where is 2023 odi wc semifinal match in that ..????
Bruh, you straight up forgot 2023 WC
They are haunted....
That's the only way to sum up all of this
South Africa needs more all rounders in their current batting lineup because Jansen is a poor batter at number 7 .
What about 2023? That semifinal was a choke vs choke too
I am not too convinced with the definition and parameters for the choke.
2024 is a mix of both choke and clutch bowling.
Saying it was a 10/10 choke devalues and discredits clutch death overs bowling and fielding by India
