This song always has the power to make me feel better when I'm sad or stressed. Even playing the games does that for me, too. I wish they would make more Mother games. They're real gems!

Man the dragons melody is amazing with the cello. I always loved that specific melody I would always listen to it and whistle it everyday. My favorite melody out of all of them is definitely that melody. It shows so much emotion in that one single melody.
I'm very glad fans of the series have kept stuff like this going. I only played Earthbound for the very first time two years ago (falling in love with its world and characters along the way), and I'm currently getting ready to climb Mt. Itoi in my first playthrough of Earthbound Beginnings. Seeing little things like this can be so fun for me along the journey, so thank you all!

You're absolutely right. Mother is really simple but it's messages are so powerful. It goes to show that you don't need HD graphics and flashy characters to evoke a strong emotional meaning.

This song holds a special place in my heart, even though I grew up playing Earthbound/Mother 2.
I just recognize this song, and I love the St. Paul's Cathedinal Choir take on it!
And the in game of the Eight Melodies in Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings is also beautiful!
I just think that St. Paul's version really elevates the feel.

Over ten years since these games were first introduced to me in a tiny college dormroom, and I am still overwhelmed with emotion and nostalgia when I think of these games. Today, Nintendo announced that the first two Mother games have been ported for the Nintendo Switch, rebranded as Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound, and when I heard the announcement this video was the first thing that came to mind.
It is time to go save the world, in that distant year of 199X.

Am I the only one who thinks that Giygas/Giegu looks like Mewtwo?
Well, APE later became Creatures Inc, and put a lot of Mother references in the pokemon games.
And it's a fair bet Mewtwo was one of them.
I think Mewtwo was based off of Giegue, or Giygas.

Either way, Mother 1 was released before the first Pokemon games.
Mother was made by a company named Ape, who later went on to become Creature, which is the company that worked on Pokemon. They likely based Mewtwo on Gigeue
Accidentally dropped and broke my Amazon Alexa yesterday and it started playing a tune that I've never heard before after I picked it back up. Anyone else have this happen to them?

I don't remember where I got them, I've had them on my hard drive for a really long time. I think I got them from somebody else asking where they were from and getting a download link. lol. Those picture are super rare just like the games they're from apparently.

Right there with you. When I first saw Mother, I was blinded by its graphics, as I had just seen Mother 3. I came back later when StephenPlays did his LP, and it's probably my favorite, or else second to Mother 3.

@SuperYoshiBaka Pokemon and Mother also have other things in common.
For one, the map in Mother 1 is upside down (just like the Pokemon maps) but is actually a map of the US, with Ninten's house situated around Rosswell, New Mexico (like I said, all the Pokemon maps are real places in Japan, but also turned upside down).

Story is simple, Geigue was a rough name translation for Gyigas that was controlled by Pokey/Porky that messed with time and ended up destroying the world Lucas lived in...
Loid could be Dr.Andonuts in EB1 and Ness looks like Ninten(they have to be related) which is why they tend to look the same

@FlamingRuby giygas IS mewtwo, pretty much everyone that worked on mother1 also worked on pokemon red/blue/green. i guess that the person who made mewtwo/giygas has some childhood trauma involving a rabid, psychic cat, and was stuck on the thought of it being the embodiment of all evil/loneliness

@FlamingRuby It's not just you. Nintendo Creatures Inc. (known as APE Inc. back when Earthbound and Earthbound 2 was made.) made the villain in those two games and transfered the design to Pokemon in the form of MewTwo.
If I were them, I'd hold that off until a proper translation of the first and third iterations was released.
But for the hypothetical new iterations... Shigesato Itoi should be at the helm. He's the man that made Mother happen, and made it amazing.
