Neil Diamond wrote this song and his version is definitely worth a listen. He reached #22 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

I remember it. They had different audiences. Deep purple brought out the heavier version. Hard rock becoming heavy metal. Neil's original version is awesome too. I enjoy them both for different reasons.

Coming out 14 months after Neil Diamond's version, Deep Purple released this as their 2nd single in 1968. I still have this album. Not as popular as "Hush" or "Smoke on the Water" it still holds it own great musical rockability. The organ is so captivating throughout, with bass line mesmerizing and the drums 🥁 grooving right along. I wonder if the whirl of the organ takes you to church Harri?? Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Greybearded Music Man. Super tune. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I believe this was on the Shades of Deep Purple album? I owned this one and The Book of Talisman album. Both very good. Jon Lord, I believe was the organ player.

@@jimallison6125 I believe it was on The Book of Taliesyn. Lol Since both albums were released 6 months apart, it gets confusing. 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦

Deep Purple was another one of the Rock groups that were ahead of their time. The first two albums are classics. What great musicians! An odd choice of song for them, but they pulled it off with their musicianship.

Good to hear Deep Purple on the channel, Eric. Better known for "Hush" (a Joe South cover) and "Smoke on the Water" (concerning a fire in the Montreux Casino during a Frank Zappa concert), Deep Purple were led by the extravagant talents of Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) and Jon Lord (keyboards). Harri, you might be intererested in their cover of Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep. Mountain High" that turned a Phil Spector production into proto-heavy metal. Thanks to Eric and Harri.

A great song to go with this one is "Summertime Blues" by Blue Cheer. They did the same thing Deep Purple did here , took a mellow song and made it hard.

Masterful drumming by Ian Paice: 0:24 and 1:27...those fills and ghost notes through the song are superb too.
I suggest Anthem and Exposition from this album.
Lalena and April from their third record.

Holly Holy, Walk on Water, Brother Loves Traveling Show, have a lot of gospel influence. Neal was clearly a fan.

of course, I am familiar with the Neil Diamond version, and he certainly does have a gospel-rock style at times, but this sounded a whole lot more like Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels (Devil With A Blue Dress On).

For me the first 3 Deep Purple albums were the best, before they went hard rock and lost their individuality. They did some fantastic covers in that time, give a listen to their version of the Beatles song 'Help!'.

Frugal have you heard their newest album 2021 of nothing but covers? The Pandemic kept them from the studio so they did an album of songs they knew from home. Try their cover of FM's "Oh Well", or Cream's "White Room".

The photo in the video already shows the so-called Mark II. But this song was still recorded by the Mark I (with Rod Evans and Nick Simper, who were later replaced by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover). This first line-up still had a different style, not so much focused on hard rock as later. But they were also already pretty good.

I am a big fan of Neil Diamond & his music. Great songwriter. Deep Purple do a nice job of his song "Kentucky Woman". You've done a lot of DP songs. Some other favorites are their cover of Joe South's song "Hush", "Woman From Tokyo", "Fireball", "Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.

Normally Harri .. I enjoy watching the music reactions but I have to say that this cover of Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman" .. and while I'm at it, I might as well include UB40's revised rendition of Neil's "Red Red Wine" .. Well, as I was about to say is that, well ... THEY BOTH JUST SUCKED! .. Not you and your reaction videos.
Just the groups and their versions of two great classics. I will change the radio stations the second I recognize the first note ... And I'm sorry to say ... step out for a smoke at a Neil Diamond concert when he would perform it the same way as UB40.
Otherwise, keep up the good work.
