    Really nice job Abena. I travel to Nairobi a few times a year and have found all the things you mentioned to be so true. In fact, I will be in Nairobi from January 20 until February 23 and I can't wait. I love Kenya and the Kenyan people and have also found Kenyans to be super friendly. I just want to add that it is refreshing to see a review that does not have a political or bias slant to it. Great job!!!!

      @@abenaaddo Thanks for your reply. I love Kenya. I'm an avid and still competative runner and do a bunch of hill running whenever I'm there but my favorite thing to do is find great local eating spots. Drinking Tuskar Lite also lol. I'm planning on visiting Rwanda and Tanzania during 2023 as well. Maybe Ghana as I haven't been there since 2001. Anyway stay safe always, Tony F.

If you are feeling adventurous do visit the desert in the north i.e. Isiolo/Marsabit/Lake Turkana region. That is a lifetime experience. The Lake Victoria region is great to visit the islands and explore too.

    There are several reasons why it can be more expensive to fly within Africa compared to flying from Africa to Europe and then to another African destination. One reason is that there is less competition among airlines within Africa, which means that prices can be higher. Additionally, infrastructure and safety standards for airports and air traffic control systems in some parts of Africa may not be as developed as in Europe, leading to higher operating costs for airlines. Furthermore, Africa has a large portion of less developed countries and less purchasing power of people may also lead to less demand for air travel, resulting in fewer flights and higher prices. Lastly, taxes and fees imposed by governments on domestic flights can also be a factor in the higher cost of flying within Africa. I'm a brother from U.S. who is living here permanently with no intention or returning to that place. I've got wonderful options and I'm exercising them to the max!

    • @abenaaddo
      @abenaaddo  Год назад

      Yeah youre right! I just wish that there were more incentives to increase travel across the continent, I really think if africans were encouraged to travel within Africa they would. There is a lot of beauty and rich culture on the continent and in my opinion a lot more interesting culture and history than in the west.

    Yayyy you're vibes on vibes. Looking forward to seeing you again (and again) here 🇰🇪. I already knew that you're coming back lol...I heard you say you'd like to go to Lamu -- a place I've visited _many_ times but unfortunately isn't where it was 10 years ago ("development" happened and there are quite a few motorbikes now, but still a single car in the whole archipelago of islands).
    If you can afford to stay at Sankara (where one of my fav cousins works), you should probably consider a night at the Mount Kenya Safari club lol. Take a look at the photos -- it's a super beautiful place. They have a wildlife sanctuary (with leopards, buffalo etc) right within the hotel grounds, and a national park next door. I'll upload videos from when I treated my siblings to a stay there this week.
    I hear you on air quality in Nairobi. It isn't the best, but better than Lagos where I didn't enjoy jogging outdoors to be honest. Now the air at Mt Kenya Safari club is _heavenly_ .
    Sankara was independently owned by locals, then became a franchisee of the Marriot brand in 2019. Let us know in a video when your travel schedule firms up, and I'll write up my recommendation of places to see.

      The airport security (having to leave the vehicle etc) has a lot to do with direct flights to the US, which were launched in 2018. They made us jump a lot of hoops to get the certification

      Hiya aw thanks for the support. I just looked up the mount Kenya safari club and it looks amazing 😍😍 wow. Thanks so much for the recommendation, I will definitely make an effort to stay there and maybe train to hike up the mountain 🤷🏽‍♀️
      The air quality was the thing I noticed right away. I do a lot of outdoor sports and the smog and dust everywhere definitely has a big impact, it’s one of the things that bothers me in Accra (leaving Accra the air is much much better).
      Interesting I didn’t know Sankara was opened and previously operated by locals, that’s great. Tbh I was impressed with the hotel and was surprised it was Marriott.. Interesting

    The WestGate mall was once attacked by terrorists and we lost a lot of people there, but we rose again, because that is who we are. There was a period we had security challenges and attack by terrorists from Somalia, all in an supposed effort to make us pull our soldiers out of Somalia. So the security measures may be inconvenient but it is okay if it guarantees your safety.

    Over the years we have had very bad incidents of terrorism attacks in various places around the city and the coast. That's why we have many security checks. Our government has put up all these measures of security checks to protect us.. We are used to it and we really appreciate.

Hopefully when you come back you'll link with @BrittneyInAfrica an African American who's in the States at the moment but has been staying in Kenya for more than a year after she relocated from Ghama for work purposes but loved Kenya so much she decided to stay. Just be careful the Kenyan bug might bite you as well and find yourself relocating! 🤣🤣. All the same looking forward to your trip back to Kenya. Hint: post more about Kenya and watch your subs go through the roof! Good luck.

    • @abenaaddo
      @abenaaddo  Год назад

      I was saying it’s completely different in Diani than everywhere else (including ghana). Only in Diani do they change the price from what is displayed on the app but that price is the same no matter where you go(Uber, bolt, tuktuk, taxi). They have all come together to dictate the cost to destinations in the city which is really outstanding and shows unity I’ve never seen before

    Nice move! Whenever your Uber app shows one price and your driver calls and tells you a different price, just cancel it and look for an alternative ride. For me, it's a matter of principle. If it's not done in Uber's country of origin, then there's no reason it should be done elsewhere around the world. It's about not giving in to a scam. And aways remember that your accent is considered that of a walking 🏧 or cash register😂

    The reason is because our country has faced terrorist attacks, American embassy, Westgate mall, and that has led to enhanced security checks especially in the airports, malls and office buildings, but it good for everyone as it guarantees security, apart from that there is the drug problem, security to stop entry of illegal drugs into the country. 😮
