On the outside of panel is soft button you push to unlock to open car how do you fix so it will work again great videos saved $$$ of dollars thank you !!
Thank you. This is the second time your videos have helped me. I replaced the actuator with the Amazon part, but it still didn’t work. Turns out two wires in the bundle between the body and the rear door were broken. Fixed these and bingo. Thanks.
Fantastic video guys. Thank you so much. You saved me hundreds of dollars vs going to the dealer. I'm glad you listed all the tools you used, and well as the parts, so I didn't have to make multiple trips to the auto parts store. Your video shows great detail, and makes following your steps very simple to do. Thanks again.
I noticed some people had similar issues. But if you still can’t open the hatch with that Phillips or flathead plastic peice that’s the safety release for the latch, there’s a chance the cable for the actual latch is broken or disconnected. I had to remove the interior light in the liftgate and reach my hand and manually open and move the bracket and assembly behind that to open the hatch.
@@kanth66 not that I have seen, the only reason I know is because my local Chrysler and dodge, ram dealership quoted my grandmother like $950 for the repair and claimed to her they didn’t know how they were going to get it opened, which is ridiculous. I never found one but I might make a video for people in the future because this seems to be a common issue but it’s possible to still open it another way. The rear hatch right above that little plastic access hole in the video there is that rectangular interior light on the lift gate. That translucent plastic cover has to be removed with a plastic trim tool or something safe enough to not break it and then there are plastic clips holding in the housing of those lights and then that’ll give access above the area shown in the video to manually move the metal part of the latch to get the trunk open. But if it’s a similar case for anyone as it was for me the whole assembly will have to be replaced most likely, cable included. I found one for $60 on Amazon versus the $200-$400 oem part not including labor the dealer will try and charge.
@@Lsutton04_ I finally got it open by inserint the flat head deeper and turned it hrd, back and forth while my wife pushed and pulled on the outer latch at the same time. Then it worked normally. Strange indeed.
How did you remove the light I’m having the same problem going to try to fix today. Once I pop the light cover off can I pop out the light easy? Also how will I know what I am grabbing to pull up on
very good - I just got replacement for dodge nitro - cable was already attached - nothing but plastic holds cable @ handle end - whatever...we had tailgate tied closed from inside - major pain, all better now
Awesome video guys. Hardest part of my fix were those 3 flipping screws with loctite. Had to use a heat gun on one to loosen it up. All good now and part was $31 from Amazon:) Thank you very much for your help 👍
Hi I hope you see my comment I have a dodge journey 2011 the door locks but the light in the board dash is on saying the trunk door is open 🥴 can you tell me if I have to replace all pieces
This is such a good video before I watched this I went to the white screw in the little hatch hit mine just wont turn so I cant progress like you have. No idea what's wrong
There's a sensor button at the bottom of my hatch. How do I get that to work. How do I activate that. Can't I use a remote opening technique for the back door?
Do you have a solution to stop an actuator that cycles continuously from beginning to end and doesn’t stop when it catches the gate and pulls it closed? If it then continues and immediately releases approximately 2 seconds afterwards?
So I've located that little white lock & turned it but my hatch still will not open 😶 so it's probably the handle? Or wiring? So frustrating.. Thanks anyway for sharing your video on this
Same issue on my Daughters Journey Did you figure out to open the rear if the white vinyl latch screw does not work to open the trunk lid when you turn it.
Could you help me with bluetooth not working on a 2012 journey...from one day to another...no more bluetooth connection nor hands free. They want to charge a fortune for changing the hfm. Any possible solution? Thanks
My issue is that the handle allows the hatch to open, however, I believe the spring which sets the handle to return to its original position is getting worn out so the handle has to be manually brought to its original position otherwise it wont latch onto the thing to allow the hatch to lock. So basically I think I need to get a new spring for my handle... how do I replace that... any ideas?
Can you do a video on replacing the door lock actuator for the passenger front side? I’m stuck at trying to remove the middle panel to get to the actuator
Like others before the door won't open when you turn the white "screw". My issue however is I have a piece of fabric stuck in the lock that won't allow me to open the back
I just had the hatch wiring harness replaced by a dealership on my 2011 Journey RT because the hatch wouldn't lock. I was hoping that having that done would also fix my backup camera, which has been working only sporadically since I bought the car 3 years ago. I now know the wiring harness is not the problem in regards to the camera, what else can I do to troubleshoot?
We have a 2013 RT. There are places where the wiring joins the various computers under the dash (the path to the phone speaker on the visor includes 4 computers apparently) and sometimes a grommet isn't enough and normal travelling around loosens connections or damages wires. The dealer took 12 hours to locate the failure in the speaker for the phone. They did it under warranty. Pray you don't get this on your own dime. Our journey frequently shows (when the car starts up), when Reverse is chosen, the image is upside down. After a moment or two, the computer figures it out and reverses it. But we get flickers. It feels very much like a wiring intermittent and those are a pain and an expense to chase. Now the FM and AM channels take to, every 3 to 15 minutes (varies) drifting off of the channel they are supposed to be locked to. If it was just FM, I'd assume the Phase Lock Loop in the FM radio had failed. But for AM, there isn't that same component so I'm guessing the issue here is either the antenna wiring (connectors or through-frame wiring) is failing and that's why we can't stay on a radio channel now. Not very impressed by the way Dodge handles its wiring and wire runs through the vehicle. I had a 1996 Mustang GT with over 330,000 km and never had a wiring intermittent. That's just poor manufacture / materials.
My 2015 Journey has this same problem but when I try to access the small access hole to turn the white thing on the accurator I cannot turn it clockwise.. Anyone have any ideas?
I never fixed it but all I know is my gas cap was loose so when I tightened it after I got gas the light went off and hasn't came back on.Which I don't see how those 2 are related but thats all I can think of.When the light was on though it made my alarm to keep going off and it was very annoying lol.
@@richierich7549 I think i found the issue - its the liftgate latch mechanism mechanical switch. Last summer, I had a problem with intermittent connection (sometimes dash board shows open and sometimes it wont lock the rear door). So i found out that there were alot of broken wires inside the rubber conduit connecting the liftgate and main body. At first I tried to solder those broken wires but it didnt actually last, the symptoms occured again this winter. So I replaced the whole wiring harness. And then, this open rear door issue that caused internal dome lights to stay on even all doors are closed. I know there’s nothing wrong with my harness because its bnew, so it has to be the latch mechanism. There is that two wires connected to it. It reads short (0.2 ohms) in your multimeter if the door is open and if it’s closed, it should read open (at least 1.7k ohms). In short, just spray your lift gate mechanism with a cleaner or wd-40 to clean the mechanical switch contact. Close/Open and repeat several times.
