I have been fighting this problem off and on for years. The alarm was driving me crazy. I followed these instructions and the problem was fixed. Many, many thanks!
Omg omg omg. AMAZING. I did this with my 2004 santa fe. I was skeptical at first because i thought it was either the door switch or faulty wiring / ground or water damage to electronics from all the rain we were having here recently. My dash warning was on and dome light. Luckily there is bypass switch for dome but dash warning was still on and could have drained battery overtime. I first tried the drivers side door. Flicked the lock hinge down, sprayed with wd40, released hinge with inside handle and closed the door. To my big suprise the light on dash got dimmer so i knew i was in the right track. Cycled through open and close a few times and it went out completely. Came back again so repeated the spraying process and it came off again. Even if it does not hold up at least i know what the problem is. I cant thank you enough for this video. I am an advance diy’er and have looked at many different videos and tutorials from a wide range of auto mechanical topics, and this one was by far the most amazing. I never knew that hinge had electronics tied to it and never expected it to work on my vehicle since yours was a 2007 ford and mine a 2004 hyundai. Its the simple things that are the most spectacular and this video is up there for one of the most helpful ones on youtube. It works for many different cars guys. If you have similar problem, this might actually do the trick. Cheers.
I have a friend whose done light was starting on while he drove. I sprayed an anti-seizing spray in the door latches and opened and closed each a few times. When he drove this morning, the light isn’t on anymore 🙌🏾 Much appreciation for these instructions.
Dude! You saved close to $200+ (that's what the mechanic wanted to charge me). Like you said, I got the WD 40, sprayed it a few times --- opened and closed it many times. Then went and opened and closed all the doors -- including the trunk. It didn't work right away, but after all that opening and closing, problem fixed! I cannot thank you enough!
You're welcome, Glenn! I went to the grocery store today and even with buying the bare basics, I had to put a few items back but it sure was nice with my car door switch working properly. I'm happy to hear that it fixed yours as well!
Good afternoon or morning whenever you have received this message My name is Lemoine and I have a Ford ranger pick up truck and just recently I saw it started to to give me the door ajar and the ceiling light stays on but after watching your video and did exactly what you did and boom it works perfectly NO MORE AJAR NOR CEILING LIGHT ON just wanted to say thank you sir .

I was heading out the door to the dealership when I found this video. Thanks for posting, this saved me money and taught me something. Thanks so much. Great video.

IT WORKED! I saturated the driver door latch with WD-40 and exercised the door 6 times. NO MORE DOOR AJAR! For reference, it's a 2008 Pontiac G6. Fortunately, the 2008 G6 Dome Light will turn off immediately with ignition on or after being shutoff even with door ajar after about 5 minutes thanks to a parasitic load detection system in the Body Control Module.

It works! Huge thanks for the video. Wear safety glasses as you may get back spray. Start with the electrical cleaner, then lube the latch itself (not the switch) with plastic safe grease. It is worth a shot on any car with a switch just below the latch. The switch is likely just dirty after many years. In my case, I ordered the switch, was ready to replace it ($40 in parts and couple hours of work) but then saw this video, figured I will try it. Aimed below the latch with electrical cleaner the best I could, since seeing the switch was impossible. It cured the problem nearly immediately. Followed up on the latch only with some white lithium grease. The new switch part is likely going back 😄
Worked perfect on my 99 expedition thanks. Just adding WD40 fixed the problem I wonder why. I did exactly what you did push the latches up spray oil open door so latches go back down close door wahlah problem fixed.
OMG. 2001 Volvo V70. I finally resorted to pulling the light bulbs out of the Dome and the foot area because the lights would not stay off and the little red! On the dashboard kept flickering on and off while I was driving. I did as you said, and now the lights go off and the little red emergency light isn't flashing which is tied to the doors drained my battery and nearly killed it

@@nogiedeville1623 Just had all my problems fixed including intermittent power windows, fob not working, trunk release not working, tire pressure warning on, etc. Found out it was green ground wires not connected inside of the flex rubber line between the frame and the drivers door. @@michaelheyward7668 Thanks, Michael. What I know about automotive electronics could fit on the tip of a spark plug. The fuse is good. From what I'm seeing on the internet, there is no relay for the interior lights. Just a fuse.
This sounds like the perfect opportunity for a class action suite. 1. Wide spread problem across several models. 2. Known to the manufacturer. 3. Fees range $250-$500 per door to fix. 4. Part of a safety system. Therefore putting the occupants at risk because the door locks will not stay locked due to the sensor.
Thank you, Ned! I have just remained with the WD-40 and it seems to be working fine. Took several applications and 50-60 door opening/closings and all has been good for 3yrs now.
WD40 is not a lubricant, it's more of a pressurized de-greaser in this case. A nasty characteristic of WD40 is that it attracts dust and dirt, so following this up with some silicone spray lube would be a good idea. 👍👍👍
Donald, the only thing that I know of that would wash away the undercoating would be a degreaser. However, I don't think it would be a good idea with the plastics which are involved with the switch assembly. I would just keep trying the wd40 and see if it loosens things up. You might get lucky. Wishing you much success with the situation as I know it can be nerve rattling with the system not functioning properly. Let me know how it goes!
Boostercontrol100, for mine, it took several applications of the spray and approximately 40-50 opening and closing of the door. 3yrs later and still working fine.
Worked again, sprayed a little PB in there and less than 2 secs later the lamp went off and the switch started working again after months of being stuck open
FIX The original owner on my 1993 truck had reinstalled the light upside down so dome was on wrong wire making dome always on. He also used wrong length screws. If the mounting screws are too long, the mounting screws grounds itself on body making it always stay on.

Thanks a lot ! Worked on a 2009 Jeep Patriot instantly.
You're welcome, Captain Midnight! Happy to be of help...
Great tip. I lithium greased squeaking hinges and goofed and did the latch. I’m going to try brake cleaner doing that and see if that works.
Thank you so so much, just savez me a trip to m'y mechanic😊
This worked on my Cadillac DTS. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You're welcome, Katrina.
Love the accent! I sprayed carb cleaner first then silicon spray. Should I use lithium grease instead?
Thank you, Ned! I have just remained with the WD-40 and it seems to be working fine. Took several applications and 50-60 door opening/closings and all has been good for 3yrs now.
Thank u very very much, im very thankful i find this video. God bless u Sir.
You're welcome, Ragde. Happy to be of help.
Just did this on my 2012 mkx worked out great, many thanks!
You're welcome, Angry Grandpa! Happy to be of help...
WD40 is not a lubricant, it's more of a pressurized de-greaser in this case. A nasty characteristic of WD40 is that it attracts dust and dirt, so following this up with some silicone spray lube would be a good idea. 👍👍👍
Yup wd40 turns into a muck
Worked like a charm!! Thank you
Hey Charlie, you're most welcome! Happy to be of help...
MAAAN I JUST DID IT AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! THANK YOU AGAIN!!
You're welcome, Head. Happy to be of help...
WD-40 worked for me. Can’t thank you enough ❤
Thank you so very much, you're a lifesaver. It took a few times for it to work.
Thanks helped me! Took a few sprays but then, bingo.
Ps I had to spray upwards for it to work.
2:37 I'm not the only person that thought "doesn't look like it worked"
Me and my SUV Saturn thank you!! ❤🎉
You're welcome, Loren! Happy to be of help...
Same happened with me after lubricate this joint with engine oil.... Can i spray petrol or alcohol ?
Alcohol is a great cleaning agent. Just make sure it has evaporated off before doing anything that could create a spark.
This worked on my 2014 Jeep wrangler ! The light went off and then the alarm kept going off. I did this and it worked :)
Glad to be of help, Adriana!
Just worked for me on a Nissan Micra - Thanks
You should have a paypal donation button pinned in the comments. I would donate $20 for fixing me up.
Thank you, Airkewld! I don't get paid from RUclips but have added a pinned link to PayPal. Thank you for any donation! All the best, Michael
Thank you, Airkewld for your donation! It is greatly appreciated!!! All the best, Michael
WD-40 on a 1998 Ranger did the trick, thanks!
The guy I bought the truck from, had it undercoated...RVERYWHERE!!! Any thoughts on how I get that shit outta there, then what to use, afterwards???
Donald, the only thing that I know of that would wash away the undercoating would be a degreaser. However, I don't think it would be a good idea with the plastics which are involved with the switch assembly. I would just keep trying the wd40 and see if it loosens things up. You might get lucky. Wishing you much success with the situation as I know it can be nerve rattling with the system not functioning properly. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the video can I asked how many times till worked? I tried it about 10 times still not working
Boostercontrol100, for mine, it took several applications of the spray and approximately 40-50 opening and closing of the door. 3yrs later and still working fine.
@@michaelheyward7668 awesome!! Thanks bro I will continue trying.
You're welcome, brother...
brake cleaner does the job ! big thanks for your vid

You're welcome, Max65! Happy to be of help...
Thank you very much.
Escalade having this problem
Worked again, sprayed a little PB in there and less than 2 secs later the lamp went off and the switch started working again after months of being stuck open
Thank you so much for your video.
FIX The original owner on my 1993 truck had reinstalled the light upside down so dome was on wrong wire making dome always on. He also used wrong length screws. If the mounting screws are too long, the mounting screws grounds itself on body making it always stay on.
My dome isn’t having issues so I think the latch is fine. I think the plunger sensor for closed is messed up.
