+Lorde Kiblington That car does exist it's called the i8 and it's 125 thousand dollars. The only change is the lack of doors, different seating, and a wheel and display, both of which looked terrible for actually driving.
just wait 50 years and all cars have this tech, a playstation 10 console built inside, a $100k pc with gtx 9001 with 1 terrabytes of ram and 500 terrabytes ssd with the latest intel i17++ ultimate gaming beast edition
+Knot no quantum computers are a very experimental thing. u can't use a binary system on it. its like traveling faster than light. quantum computing in the way computers are programmed today (since like 50 years) is impossible.
+Spoert M concept car. in other words: this car will be ''destroyed'' and the tech in it will be used in the next BMW cars. Concept cars are just a showcase of what will come in the future of BWM here.
+mickill11 He's way out his league methinks xD Also the fact that he was standing on a box infront what i'd imagine to be a crowd of people might'ave had something to do with it
This is the best video I've seen about the whole BMW experience at CES. The other videos didn't put it together as well as this and didn't have all the info that this one has.
My theory is that it won't be many years before it will become illegal for civilians to operate vehicles. Why? Because AI-controlled driving is (or will be) much safer, especially at much higher speeds (which paves the way for super-highways). That makes things like steering-wheels obsolete.
I doubt VR will get there in "a few years" though, especially with the power needed to drive it and us nearing the limit of technology in its current state.
+ertepechis i don't think so... he's talking about a vision/ a concept wich can't be reduced to just some facts. Furthermore he's german so he's not an native english speaker and is send by a huge company to represent the product most professional.
+ertepechis It's not his native language, it actually takes a lot of brain work and practice to speak fluently, so don't blame him. English is not my native language too so I know what I'm talking about. Also if you've noticed he made a few grammar mistakes while speaking.
I hope they do good with non button interactions, granted there's the steering wheel. The one thing that bugs the crap out of me about my dad's Cadillacs is, touch based interfaces! The driver needs to focus on the road not to be looking for the touch buttons to change the temperature. In my car I can change volume, switch between stations(presets) or change temperature or fan speeds all without looking away from the road. That's what physical interfaces(buttons and knobs) can do for you.
but the problem lies here. since cars now adays are running of computers. in the future i see hackers being able to hack your car and drive it for you. and thats not a good thing
I will never have a car that takes any control away from me, while yes they are good and stop accidents on the road me personally will never ever own one as long as i live
+Çerastes In our lifetimes they will never take away people's ability to drive. At most they will just make driving exams more strict, forcing those who can't pass to get cars that drive themselves. People with self driving cars will probably need a basic drivers license, just in case the computers malfunction in the car. Driving exams these days are very easy, and anyone can pass if they don't have a disability. They only really limit someone's ability to get a license when that person proves to society that they can't be trusted with a car.
Hey Linus, I just wanted to say that this video was really well done. I usually glance over most of the CES videos, because there are so many and with so many RUclipsrs doing duplicates it gets quickly boring. But this video was genuinely interesting and your excitement made it even better. I really liked it.
Ye but for germans they get tax deduction or something like that if they buy a German car (that is why they all drive german cars). Also Tesla is for the common European really expensive because of shiping costs and import duties which you don't have with BMW. Last to say cmon man this car has some tech they already are going to introduce this year like the laserlight stuff. (+ it looks freaking good)
+Maxence Smeets yeah true with the German tax deductions and the car looks great! But I think the actual performance and dollar per what you get is better in a Tesla.
+Patrick Proba yeah I heard quite a lot of people talk about it here. The point is that you normally pay an extra amount of money (most of the times included in the price) when you buy a car. In Germany (what I heard of) you don't have to pay that much or none because it is made in Germany. As I am not really experienced in buying cars (recently saved up so I could buy one what I did, so the counter is at 1) I cannot ensure this information.
To nitpick here, while you can use the translucent display over the base screen, it would be easier to blend the graphics on the base screen. I like the touch interface on the inside rim of the steering wheel, looks more tactile than navigation wheels like iDrive or MMI.
Hey, i like tech as much as everyone else. But the more tech you cram into a car. The more prone to malfunction it gets. Not to mention the increased risk of your car getting hacked. Have fun with your self driving car when it drives you off a cliff. Plus, It also increases repair costs. As the cars internal gets more complex, requiring more specialized mechanics.
+Perplexed Arctic Wolf Wrong, modern BMWs have terrible reliability due to an excessive use of electronic systems. Funny how muscle cars, cars from the 60s that barely have any complex electronics are still fully functional and work even to this day.
+Perplexed Arctic Wolf If you've ever worked on cars as I do, you'd know that I'm 100% right. Cars have too many useless infotainment systems that people who know how to REALLY drive, don't need. An E30 BMW is far more reliable than a modern F series 3 series. If you've worked on both of these cars, you'd understand.
Heading back to work after lunch one day I saw my first BMW i8 and I had to do a double take. The car is that gorgeous. The features in this concept look interesting, but it makes me wonder how secure it is since they showed off the smart home and auto parking with gestures. Safety and security are key for stuff like this.
I think that mirror is the most interesting product in ces this year. It screams iot and as a dev I'm super stoked to work with it. Just think the possibilities!
This is so cool! Like the vision of the future of automobiles I've always had. Where a driving and owning a car doesn't make your life more stressful and difficult, but easier. Thanks for the awesome coverage, Linus!
Damn! I drove an BMW i3 today, crazy fast acceleration and real comfort although its a small car. First i was skeptic about the car because of its small battery but after i drove it, my few changed, perfect little car for going to work and back home or do little trips. Cant wait for more electric cars!
I'm actually not really into cars at all, but the technology this car uses is impressive. Everything looks very smooth and streamlined; a actual functional and useful concept. I would love to see this become the future of cars. I'm impressed.
Technology like this really isn't that far away, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has some of the features shown in this video such as the dual viewing panoramic screen and heads up display on the windscreen. Also the self parking thing is pretty much standard and you can set things from your phone before you get to the car such as heating or whatever.
Well, did they think about it? When a kind of this car is out, plug power should be regenerative on its own, so you would not even need to select "immediate", because it's solar (respectively wind) power anyway!
I mean I get that a system of autonomous taxi-like things would be more economical and safer, but I definitely prefer BMW's vision of the future. They are only adding to the driving experience, not taking away from it. Neat stuff!

Some think autonomous cars are the future i personally don't want that to be the case, i'm 13 and for some reason i actually do want to drive. but there are cool things about what electric cars and the automotive have achieved over the recent years
Casual here, We're slowly reaching the point where the car can drive it self all together. What I'm wondering is why we haven't seen more of electrical/digital steering systems, I mean steering wheels, pedals, gear sticks? Come on? Couldn't you just fall back and do all that with a game controller for example? or atleast have gas and break buttons on the steering wheel?
I hope that panoramic display can be retracted. It seems to be right in the line of sight. I'd rather be able to see the road than be distracted by some massive screen right next to me.
Leave it to a tech guy to ask the proper tech questions. And explain the information as accurately as possible while providing relevant examples. Great stuff linus.
This car is pretty much already on the road, The BMW I8... all this is is a different body design making it more of a convertible but its pretty much been on the road since early last year.
This car but a simplified version of it does actually exist! It's called BMW i8 and I think a similar car like this one in the video will be made. Because a lot of people has requested a i8 convertible which I think BMW is about to make. But this one in the video without door and so on might not see the road. It's just a conceptlike car.
Forgive me for being "old here" at 23 but I don't want a self-drive car. I like turning the ignition key and the steering wheel. And don't get me started on the pedals on the floor. Self-drive cars are cool but then you are taking the drving out of the drive.

+Top Mass Entertainment
The big Problem will be Internet of things.

Already happened actually
Still would be a lot better than trusting humans with driving. I can't wait for the day it becomes illegal for people to drive.

Excellent video Linus, I watched all your videos, but I really liked the enthusiasm in this video in particular.
Yay! More technology! = More crap that can malfunction

how many cores does an i8 have? is it overclockable?
3 cores running at 1.5 liters and yes it's turboclocked. 😜
Best CES coverage so far. LMG has come a long way in a short time!!
The whole autonomous parking and the garage/dock/mirror thing is freaking awesome!
great coverage way better than the verge did, this is why i am subscribed
This is so cool! Like the vision of the future of automobiles I've always had. Where a driving and owning a car doesn't make your life more stressful and difficult, but easier. Thanks for the awesome coverage, Linus!

Great coverage. Nice to see something new but still tech related every now and then when it's this innovational
Nice colors... Special LTT edition?
This was epic, I absolutely love that demo, that mirror though omg
What a time to be alive!
I'm actually not really into cars at all, but the technology this car uses is impressive. Everything looks very smooth and streamlined; a actual functional and useful concept.
I would love to see this become the future of cars. I'm impressed.
That gesture controlled parking was sick!
Technology like this really isn't that far away, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has some of the features shown in this video such as the dual viewing panoramic screen and heads up display on the windscreen. this maybe my favorite CES video so far
this would have been a good one for 4k video quality; this car is pretty well placed into the epic category IMO
Very nice video Linus, would love to see more car content!
I don't really know what companies are waiting to put HUD on the windshields.
If someone knows, please tell me.
Neat stuff!
I really like wat BMW is doing with their I cars.. ps BWM give linus an i8
I want this car. When will it be available in America?
best CES video i've seen this year
Big fan of BMW and most German cars, always so pleasant to drive, reliable and stylish.
That connected home concept is awesome.
Would it be possible to make a disclaimer inside the video that it's sponsored? Considering LTTP has a lot of reviews I would really wish you guys would put up disclaimers. It's no problem that you have sponsored content but just putting it in the description isn't enough IMO.
Some think autonomous cars are the future i personally don't want that to be the case, i'm 13 and for some reason i actually do want to drive. but there are cool things about what electric cars and the automotive have achieved over the recent years
How about the color? It matches your company's color.
Casual here, We're slowly reaching the point where the car can drive it self all together.
What I'm wondering is why we haven't seen more of electrical/digital steering systems, I mean steering wheels, pedals, gear sticks? Come on?
Couldn't you just fall back and do all that with a game controller for example? or atleast have gas and break buttons on the steering wheel?
the laugh of the BMW guy when Linus asks if this is a compromise, well done BMW :) Great video!
Beautiful. I've been in an i8. Such nice cars.
Gotta love that "Push-Button Transmission" hahahaha
Cool, but will it use its turn signals or will it keep BMWs long tradition of just not?
Is it has upgradable RAM?
can it run MineSweeper ?
So when can I buy one?
Is it NSA certified?
Best most interesting video from CES so far
haha how linus was standing at 1:05 and his face 😂😂✌️👌🏿
high quality coverage!
0:17 Soooo... It will be using the *i8 processor* and not the *i7*?
So Linus, when does your sponsored BMW get delivered?
I hope that panoramic display can be retracted. It seems to be right in the line of sight. I'd rather be able to see the road than be distracted by some massive screen right next to me.
Wonderful concept for future technology!
Leave it to a tech guy to ask the proper tech questions. And explain the information as accurately as possible while providing relevant examples. Great stuff linus.
That whole concept is really cool.
Vertical doors or No doors?
Great concept car with integration in the home, looks like BMW are onto something here
Will it blend? that is the question.
Does it djent?
other than laws around self driving cars what's keeping them from putting a motor in this and selling it?
This car is pretty much already on the road, The BMW I8... all this is is a different body design making it more of a convertible but its pretty much been on the road since early last year.
+Mattalot97 But without most of the tech presented here ...
+Mattalot97 This a presentation of the tech, not the chassis and body design.
+Ken Kalajdžič ` The new 7 serie large model has most of the tech which is featured in this vid. I was in it and it was an amazing experience
but can you build it beautiful at 60fps 1080p?
This car but a simplified version of it does actually exist! It's called BMW i8 and I think a similar car like this one in the video will be made. Because a lot of people has requested a i8 convertible which I think BMW is about to make. But this one in the video without door and so on might not see the road. It's just a conceptlike car.
That second display will compromise your visibility of the passenger side of the road , not a fan of that
But can you drive it?
but does it have automatic turn signals? (we all know why that is important for bmw drivers)
So the car will do things that you don't particularly like doing yourself while you are stopped in traffic. And what might that be?
Linus's Chin during interview...... I was cracking up
No ads for this video? Already missing the square space..
is it powered by a gtx6700k tho?
Forgive me for being "old here" at 23 but I don't want a self-drive car. I like turning the ignition key and the steering wheel. And don't get me started on the pedals on the floor. Self-drive cars are cool but then you are taking the drving out of the drive.
I don't see the point of self parking, I would still want to make sure that it parks correctly. So why not do it yourself?
