Didn’t Suzuki win a lawsuit proving this fake? Like the whole flipping was a lie
Yeah, they did
Yeah, but again all kinds of top gear are scripted
Yeah. But director says samurai flip then it'll flip.
Yes they did and the assholes responsible for it lost millions as they deserved. Drive it like a putz and almost any vehicle will flip. Samurai was a great little vehicle.
Yup but people find that lie and keep spreading it
The Samurai was one of the most capable, affordable offroad vehicles ever made, and will hang with ANYTHING out there off road. It's no more "unstable" than a jeep is, yet American's never said a bad word about Jeeps.
The thing is Jeep is in company with Dodge
Maximum RPM And with Chrysler.
Accept, Jeeps really aren’t that unstable...
Its just all bs
Because Jeeps are far better engineered than a Samurai is. Suzuki never worked out the high center of gravity, and tendency to roll over. And bringing nationality into it is uncalled for.

At 2:35, on the inside of the turn, right at the edge of the pavement, you can actually see the ramp they used to flip the Samurai.
You should get one for your kids they would love it and of course it's going to flip when you put a ramp on the track
Exactly, even at 120 kmph off-road the little things don't care and keep going straight without budging, they set this up, also the dude doesn't know how to drive it because he treats it like a normal car
Yeah, the same will happen to almost any American Jeep or any real off-roader. It will roll, but that doesn't mean it is a bad vehicle. Consumer Reports did purposely discredit the Samurai in order to get it out of the market. That kind of shameful action many of us will never forget. Personally I will never trust Consumer Reports.
My first car was an 87 Samurai. I drove it for 10 years and never once felt like it was going to flip.
Its actually total bs that samurais roll...
stock sure
It came out that the rumor was started because Jeep paid a magazine to print that in a review because samurais were outselling Jeeps. And it worked
My buddy drove his like a Ferrari and never rolled it ... Did have it on two wheels once that was terrifying
most Boxy 4 wheel drive cars tend to roll anything past 40 on a sharp turn and your dunzo, they are dust no designed for racing.
@@Iceican bet
The samurai is not dangerous it's the idiot driver that drives too fast around corners that is dangerous
That's like saying a gun isn't dangerous, it's the idiot behind the trigger that is dangerous.
marshknute Guns don't kill people, people kill people. A gun by itself can't do anything, it is inanimite.
The Samurai is the same, by itself it isn't dangerous, it needs a human to operate it in order to become dangerous.
What If The Gun Falls To The Fall And Pulls on the trigger
Guns have safety catches to prevent them from accidentally discharging when dropped, this has been mandatory since 1968.
It's also highly unlikely that simply dropping a gun will actually pull on the trigger, trigger guards were designed to prevent that from happening.
A gun also does not simply fall on its own, it is inanimate and inanimate objects do not move autonomously, therefore a living being [such as a human] must have dropped it... so in the unlikely case of a dropped firearm discharging and actually killing someone, the person who dropped it is still responsible.
NB: You don't need to capitalize every word.
HekateMGO Guns and cars are safe but when you add ANY human it becomes dangerous thus we must conclude that Humans are the main reason anything is dangerous
2:07 - Of course the single scene where the Samurai flips the camera is so low we can't even see the ramp it's hitting. Next few frames show it flipping, but where it turned over is out of frame. Such important footage you'd think they'd show it all. I know they're trying to be funny, but if the car wasn't flipping, so why not just say that? Besides everyone knows the Pintos fuel tank problems were widely exaggerated and the Corvair? Well that's just a dangerous old car; emphasis on 'old car'.
On the UK's Top Gear: Bolivia Challenge they had a Samurai and didn't feel the need too even mention the vehicles 'notorious stability problems' from what I remember. They joked about how small it was and showed how horrible the stock suspension is, but the damn thing survived with the likes of a full size suv like the Range Rover and the better equipped (on paper) Land Cruiser. In comparison Top Gear US is all theatrics and no review. They miss the ball by MILES and I have too partially blame the crews at the History Channel for infecting every god damn show on their channel with that Pawn Star/American Pickers mystic!
But that doesn't mean the BBC executives are not at fault. I think most people can see Top Gear UK has it's problems, but that's to be expected with any show that's been on for 13 years (since it's relaunch). Most shows older then 4 years get stuck in that rut of, "They know what the fans want and change their formula accordingly." You can see this with the ever increasing reviews on performance vehicles, repeated puns, and sometimes overly forced/exaggerated challenges.
Yes I like those things, but by altering the formula they alter the show and the History Channel just exaserbates this problem. The History Channel has turned from Education AS Entertainment into some kind of Info~tainment over the last few years. They'll throw in 'fun facts' for the name sake of their brand and call their TBS style shows 'educational'. Top Gear US fits snugly into this. The BBC wants to make more money off of the American market so they license their name too the highest bidder. The BBC executives green light the History Channel (A&E 50% / Disney 50%) changes that the market research shows as gold. So they take the best parts of Top Gear UK, mix them with History Channel standards, and give it too Ben Silverman (Director: The Office / The Biggest Loser) and staff too put it all together.
Top Gear UK is already a worldwide show, I mean like the go everywhere.. Whats the point of a US counter version other then to make money or to take the strain off the aging UK crew? Top Gear US is a failed project and hurts the shows reputation. Furthermore BBC should retire Top Gear UK before it hurts itself, wait a few years, and then relaunch with multiple crews (US, UK, and maybe Asia?) underneath one show. That way they can have their multi~market appeal and retain and consistent image and style.
In closing, please excuse any grammar problems or inconsistencies. I didn't mean too rant like this. (I was just researching the Samurai lol)
(and also) Despite all the studies and cost; no one liked "New Coke", but damn if they didn't make a killing off "Classic"
Amazing comment. And funny enough I just got here after researching Consumer reports conspiracy against the samurai.
I would also have to say that the American presenters are not car enthusiasts and it shows. it stinks
U wrote a full essay
It's all for TV and views what do you expect
@@arteonyx Something wrong?
Okay, MAD props to Tanner for sticking up for the Samurai. Most people honestly believe they are prone to tipping over; very few people realize they actually perform far and above anything else in their class for rollover safety.
I have owned four samurais, lifted and stock. I have done stupid things in them.... still never even gotten on two wheels. I hate the BS myth about them rolling, everyone always asks me about that when they see that I have one. Then Top Gear makes a faker than fake video to try and perpetuate the idea. Super annoying. I have gotten mine sideways at speed many times, never came close to even tipping. They even had to resort to a ramp to get theirs to roll. Also if you watch when he keeps saying “ oh it’s on two wheels!” You’ll notice that it’s not even close to on two wheels and the pinto have more body roll and looks closer to flipping than the samurai. Go look into the conspiracy theories behind the samurai flipping stories in the US, they are very interesting.
Suzuki tried to one up Land Cruiser and 4 Runner and failed.
a google user and how can be drived when the 2 wheels are on the air and the car on the side support?? that rear diff is welded
I'm sorry this is nothing compared to the Original Top Gear
Cheeky Camel it is not supposed to be
@@ShotoTodoroki-ek7kg lol, it's been 6 years! I don't think Cheeky Camel will even see your comment.
Uh. This is top gear USA. Not top gear UK buddy.
This video was obviously meant to be silly. I have a 1992 Samurai JT, completely stock aside from GY All-Season tires. It gets 37.5 city MPG, is a great vehicle for in-town under 45mph going to the store sort of tasks, can famously handle snow/sand/mud, and climb trees. Plus, it is fun to drive, and well built/durable/reliable. Anyone afraid to drive theirs can sell it to me once I drive the wheels off this one. But yes, I do have a real car for long trips at highway speeds.
Corvair and Pinto actually looked in quite good condition, shame to destroy them really
That was killing me the whole time xD
The Samurai was started tipping onto 2 wheels before he even turned the corner. They ramped it on the left. Top Gear US guys are useless.
4
I feel kinda bad for these classics, they're in pretty good condition.
Who thinks the actual host flipped the Samurai and not some hired stunt dude?
Tanner Foust has rolled rally cars before, I'm sure they had him roll the Samurai as well
I think tanner actually did it but I don't think the Sammy was stock to do it
Two words to describe this walmart version of a great show:
New Coke.
I have a Suzuki Sidekick, the descendant of the Samurai. With street tires, it's actually quite stable. Now I've put all terrain tires on it, I've got to go a bit slower in turns. But when I got a little carried away on ice and decided to drift, I was sideways when the ice ended and the road began. Didn't flip it :)
That Corvair is a beauty!
So is the pinto I'd love to get it and jam a 289 under the hood
I have driven a corvair many times, I have never spun out.
the Corvair is great! some people just don't know how to drive it.
Anyone else mad they flipped a beautiful Samurai intentionally? That thing was in great shape!
First car I ever had was an '88 Suzuki Samurai. So many memories. Two wheeled it more than once, but never went all the way over. I'll own another one someday, because why not? That's why.
we get the longer wheelbase Samurai (or Gypsy as it is called here) in India... its one of the most fun car to drive around... I learnt how to drive in this car... It was a very very capable off road car and cheap... Its still used for rallying and still does very well...
There's only ONE Top Gear. And this is TOP GEAR UK!♥ ♥ ♥
at this point, having long ago exhausted what remains of Top Gear UK, Top Gear USA doesn't seem that bad anymore.
Did you guys cheat with the samurai? It showed a ramp that i saw clearly
one of my aunt's first cars were a pinto, i'm suprised she is still alive today.
“It’s kinda fun to balance it” lol
Every car is a dangerous car with this Top Gear!
I'm from the UK and always loved this US version of Top Gear. The humour and chemistry between the 3 presenters was great. In fact much better than the new team on the UK version.
Top Gear UK (Clarkson, Hammond, and May era) is the REAL TOP GEAR that we all know and loved. I'm fine if the US version is not titled Top Gear but I do agree that this is better than the new UK version, the new Top Gear kinda felt like a more popular Fifth Gear.
But thank God we still have Grand Tour!
I'm an American and I want UK!
I like how they just left the Samurai on its side while they finished the race. It's just there, chilling
I like how instead of seeing if he's ok they finish the race lol
pour samurai
jay leno, jerry seinfeld, and george clooney for top gear
Geriatric Edition.

I'd actually love to see good top gear do this challenge.
I LOVE THE CORVAIR
i have 6 .. this guy cant drive my 62 700 would out run an out turn both cars my late models would be done before they got started
it underscores the fact that top gear USA needs to have it's own channel on RUclips
Every now & then I feel like reminding myself why I don't watch Top Gear. This was a good reminder.
Top gear USA, get 2 American cars, and one foreign car, Make it look like the foreign car is gonna win, then let something happen to it so it looks like all foreign cars suck, American car wins in a biased race. That's top gear USA for ya'
Couldn't agree more
What are you talking about. The Pinto had already passed the Samurai before he tipped it. But you probably don't care. You're just looking for reasons to hate on this show.
MrSilnev
I don't hate this show, but I think it's biased, and they only seem to care about American cars.
I totally agree and like top gear uk better, but the uk one always bashes the American cars on their week point and pickup the wrong ones for the show. They should try some old school muscle like early 70s with hotchkis suspension and see how the straight line power and decent handling work together.
sqhatr Well, they also give credit to the good american cars, like they did with the mustang gt500, the ford gt or recently the new corvette
The reason the Samurai was considered prone to rollovers was that its large use of heavy glass above the car's beltline, combined with its ride height, gave it a high center of gravity. The Ford Bronco II, which had a similar design, also received these criticisms. This model, with its soft top and plastic windows, would still be prone to rolling over, but most likely not much more so than the average Jeep. Dramatic license on the show's part..
Samurai. Hell yes! Me and my nephew use too go mud riding, it was always 💯ready to drive us back home.
i used to thrash my samurai on the road, even with 2 inch lift on 30s it used to drift before even feeling tippy. also hilarious how it accelerated faster and initially was faster through the corners, probably before the scripting came into play
Drive lifted Samurais for twenty years , on the "Autobahn" up to 140 kmh with no Problems ! You must know what you drive (high centered, leafspring Suspension) Samurais are no ordinary boring street cars! Maybe put a Defender,CJ 7 ,Wrangler in to a race like this an they roll all at high Speed cornering!
actually it seemed pretty stable here in the video and it even took a while for them to finally roll it over, so my guess is that the bastards from consumer reports either had contracts with other manufacturers or they just hated cheap and reliable import off road vehicles, the only down side of a stock samurai is the lack of power steering before year 2000 lol and I'm considering on selling my hatch back to a samurai because it's more fun and it's cheaper to own, at least in europe
crawlervideo Schafft der wirklich 140?
Cj-5 will for sure roll their narrower than a cj-7 but if you want sketchy but safety get a first gen Ford explorer and put new tires on it (the Firestones in those days sucked)
they put a ramp in the corner to flip the samerai it was scripted
This sad reproduction of the great BBC's TG is so horribly scripted and over-edited, it's really an embarrassment to anyone with even half a brain. The potential is there but the chemistry isn't.
I had a Suzuki jeep in the mid-80s. Loved it. Never rolled on me.
My grandfather had both the Pinto and a '63 Corvair (pre suspension fix), and hes still alive!
you could be just stupid to drive a jimny like that and flip it
What is the issue with British people and bashing American Top Gear? British Top Gear is better but American Top Gear isn't bad. We don't bash the British for trying to take over the world
Corvairs were famous for their unpredictable handling.
The samurai for falling over, narrow wheelbase and top-heavyness.
Me: "Mom I want top Gear!"
Mom: "We Have Top Gear At Home"
(American Top Gear at Home)
there are plenty of MUCH more dangerous cars in baghdad / israel
Why so many doslikes its way better than uk is still like the uk one
My mom had a pinto and I owned a samurai and I'm still here.
Well the suzuki is not a race car, its a mini off-roader
US topgear sucks
your profile picture says it all lol.
then why are you here?
because they don't say "top gear USA" in the first half of the title.
WillemHD
Oh yes, shame on the person uploading this video for not putting such a horrible tag as "Top Gear USA" in the first part of the title, so the innocent soul that you are could have avoided clicking on such a horrible, heinous link as this due to his apparent inability to read the full title of a video. You know, if you're just looking for attention, you don't need to pretend otherwise.
Pashow Reading in-between the lines may not be your strong suit.
What the crap usa !!!! Just only UK worth Top Gear name !!!
My buddy over corrected on some camber in the trail and managed to plant us into a tree. I was in the back....without the back seats. Hit the tree hard enough for the back end to lift up and pivot 90 degrees to the right, dig in, and roll on its side. It was glorious.
I have the Indian version called the Gypsy. Our Armed forces has been using this vehicle for 35 years. And it is one of the toughest and most capable off road vehicles ever. Simple. Mechanical. Easy to fix. Cheap to run and maintain. The Gypsy is all of this.
It sucks uk is better
top gear is the uk. this is just garbage
Love how to cut clip when it flipped they had to make it flip
Its called "dramatized".
Welcome to television, did you just discover it?
top gear USA: SUCKS! not personal, the original is so much better
its like watching 16 yr olds imitating their favorite tv show. SUVs period in the early 90s were flippy like the Bronco 2, the wrangler
Can't believe they wrecked that samurai, their incredible little off road vehicles
I seem to remember it was the screws through the back seat that sat real close to the tank. Removing or shortening those screws should fix the problem. Good looking wee car.
The samurai wouldn't of rolled if he didn't hit the curb.
wasn't a curb, look at 2:19, they built a ramp to roll it
Suzuki Samurai Or Sierra or Jimny was the first production 4x4 Kei car from Japan. Kei cars were introduced after the ww2 in reduced Horse power torque engine size and vehicle dimensions. These dimensions suited ensured small streets in Japanese cities. It’s a great vehicle and now the new Jimny released 2019 is awesome!
The fact that three fools can tip the samurai back over ought to tell us something
Yep, I drove a Suzuki Samurai once and was surprised by how much the tail was loose even with its underpowered engine.
You would never know it. Car Guys Needed!
tanner pulled a richard hammond, lol - that Scandanavian flick is a dangerous move, haha
Nice video even if people say its a lie. Good show. Years ago my dad fixed a pinto. I don'temember if he drove it or sod it.
thing is you can have both top gear shows, just watch the one you prefer, i dont mind having 2 different car shows to watch
I have a Samurai at my house, but it has been sitting for 10 to 20 years and needs work badly. I hope we find time to work on it. It would be a great beach car
Just an FYI: if it has a good body on it, that's probably an easy $7-10k sitting in your driveway. A lot of people(myself included) are hungry for them and there aren't a whole lot left. Best of luck, whatever your decision(I'd keep it lol)!
MoThanYouKnow
It’s not really that bad, it’s pretty much mostly interior damage. Not sure about the engine though, but my dad and I are planning to work on it maybe this year or next year
Also thanks for reminding me of my 3 year old comment lol
@@BaronKube Nice! I owned 2 back in the day and regret selling them both; if the frame's not gone, it's worth any rebuild. :) Best of luck with your project!
Remember The Stig driving through a car wash? Priceless episode full of "facts".
Look at you guys, not giving Top Gear USA a chance. Its actually getting better now.
Why does everyone hate TopGear USA? I prefer the regular TopGear myself, by a long shot, but I have yet to see why people hate this one.
I found him flipping over, funnier than I should have.
I drove Samurais, Land Rovers, and Land Cruisers across Kenya. My clear favourite was the Samurai. Also had two Pintos from my parents growing up. Far more dangerous than the exploding gas tank was the hopeless handling.
Pinto + Fire extinguisher = LOL.
magnifico capitulo. como siempre
Guys, stop hating. Remember these guys do this for YOUR entertainment! And if you don't like these video's, then just don't watch them or try to give them advice on how they can do this better but don't hate because they putt a lot of hard work in these video's.
WHY SO MANY DISLIKES.. THIS SHOW ISNT TRYING TO HE LIKE THE UK VERSION.. ITS JUST A CAR ENTERTAINING SHOW..ENTERTAINING SHOW
Nice balance tanner!
Because people haven't actually watched a full episode of the newer seasons of TopGear USA and don't understand that now, it's actually a good show.
There are these people called "internet trolls" and TopGear USA attracts a lot of them.
Didn’t know Joyce Byers could drive that fast against a samurai.
holy crap Tanner went for a ride!
I found this entertaining.
Great friendship there!! :/
I wish they would bring this show back
if there was a top gear uk channel i'd never end up in top gear usa.. wtf
The best show in the world (was) the old Top Gear. Now the best one is The Grand Tour
My friend, my friend's dad, my dad's friends, my dad ever had a suzuki samurai (sierra/katana/jimny) and we're still alive until now
I love how he flips and they still race lol
Samurai isn't dangerous. What dangerous is doing a hot lap with a samurai. 🤣
It's mainstream to dislike US Top Gear.
Trying to find the most dangerous car in America is like trying to find a needle in a pile of needles.
The Suzuki Samurai can easily roll over at any speed and the Corvair can easily loose control by oversteer, leading to accidents.
