Love Joe's rendition of this song! Heartfelt.......... This was the performance that introduced me to Bonamassa's music. I first viewed several of Leonard Cohen's performances of this song (which Leonard himself wrote) on RUclips. Then one of the commenters on a Cohen performance suggested this great piece by Joe. I had not heard of him. It was on a different RUclips channel at that time. Loved it…never looked back. Joe’s Black Rock studio rendition of this song is also great…unusual Greek instruments…also on RUclips. I absolutely love Joe’s music artistry, his songs, and his guitar work...and also Leonard Cohen!
Leonard Cohen wrote so many really wonderful songs. Many of his greatest were love songs. Albert, I am hoping that you might enjoy the poetry and simple melody of this song: “If I Didn’t Have Your Love” by Leonard Cohen. No one knows to whom Cohen is singing. Some listeners speculate that he is addressing a lover. Others think he might be addressing his children. Many people believe he is speaking/singing to God. We will never know. He did happen to be a very spiritual man, not necessarily religious, but quite spiritual…and he did suffer from severe depression off and on and addressed God in several of his songs.
