If I’m correct my first screen repair only took about an hour Seeing these guys do it with basically no instructions that they could see is pretty impressive
Most phone fixing places I go to turn away most customers because it's a liability to repair people's products and they'd rather you buy the warranty so they could cover it with insurance and scrap it rather than fix it.
@@singular9 Most places that fix phones seems pretty sketchy. I just fixed devices from home. Fixing devices with parts that are trustable are a better option.
Easily one of my favorite videos yet on this channel. “We’ve got Cholula” about murdered me. Likewise “Is the phone off?” “No…” But my favorite line is absolutely “OH! Swag…!” So much fun to watch. Thanks for this one…!
Not gonna lie, Ellis might actually be a very good addition to your team cause he fulfils a niche of jokes that people like myself and I'm sure others find funny + Marques if your reading this man thank you so much for always bringing out high quality content you really inspire me to always make the best youtube videos possible, keep it up!
Pretty surprised that it might be an unpopular opinion (judging by this comments section) but i love Ellis's addition to the team. Don't know why but his jokes and replicas just hit something in me, definitely can relate) Cool guy, and love the overall dynamic inside the teams as always
Both teams were amazing, I think it's a tie tbh. Although I like the chaotic sibling energy of Ellis and Mariah It truly is about the friends made along the way 😂
I love the old versus the new. Marques and Andrew are a seasoned team. Mariah and Ellis are the new edition...and they were under the circumstances formidable!
Did the same to my old iPhone 8 plus, replaced battery, screen adhesive and the head speaker that been sounding awful after all of those years. The experience to do it myself is unmatchable! Now I love my old phone even more) not even thinking to buy a new one. The ability to fix things that you own one-ups the value of it to yourself.
"boy we're trying to fix a phone" "/you're/ trying to fix a phone" lmfaoo. if you guys ever do another roadtrip style video these two need to be in a car together
Wow love seeing you folks getting your hands dirty in the repair movement! Also mad props for those repairs. Those are not easy and pulling them off this well the first time is pretty remarkable.
Great video- I think that many people are just too intimidated by what seems like a complex process when, in reality, they are perfectly capable. Would have liked to see a quick sidebar on right to repair and the larger sustainability issues around repair vs. buying new.
as someone who worked at the genius bar and repair iPhone for the past 6 years this was super entertaining! The 13 Pro adhesive really is a pain for sure!
A few months ago I fixed my Huawei Mate 20 Pro simply because I didn't want just to throw it away and had spent nearly £1000 when I bought it around the release date here in the UK. Changed the funny bottom speaker, which was integrated into the charging port, the back panel and the battery. I also fitted a new display which I got cheap from AliExpress, 3 times cheaper than the original display, unfortunately it came without the underscreen fingerprint reader so I managed to transfer the reader from the old display onto the new one successfully. I didn't use iFixit repair kit and still managed to get it fixed like new. I'm surprised that you tech guys have never fixed any phones yourselves 😂 The video is fun to watch and well done to all of you, the whole team. Keep up the good work and I as a massive fan to all your channels would be happy to see more competitive and fun videos like this one. Greetings from London, UK. 👏🏻
I'm a Civil Engineer, with no experience with tech hardware, but I have fixed many phones since the iphone4, replaced many iPad screens and batteries since the iPad 2, and a couple of Macbooks thanks to Ifixit. Their Guides are perfect.
Idk how to spell her name but she’s awesome. Mariah and Ellis had me laughing. He’s right, it’s about the journey but she has a point… boy we trynna fix a phone 😂
I have been using Sony Xperia phones exclusively for the last twelve or so years. Since we don't have authorised fix shops here in Ghana, I've been pretty much fixing my phones myself for just about that long. Cracked glass back panels (I hate them glass backs! Plastic FTW), screens, charge connectors, batteries, I have done all that. I must admit that with all these years of 'experience', I know my way around the internals of phones to get many replacement jobs done in an hour tops without first reading the instructions, and about 20 to 30 mins if I read the instructions beforehand.
Really great video! Maybe if you do something like this again it would be more fun if both teams were doing it in the same room. Feels more competitive and although there would be "cheating", that would also be more fun to watch
It's kind of tough when I hear people say oh I've heard horror stories about repair shops this coming from a reputable repair shop. And that's the key you have two read reviews before you take it to any repair shop. Too often people will take their phone to the most local guy who says they can fix phones and then they get screwed over. Read reviews people please
Yeah but sometimes it's the "Reputed ones that also screw you over." A great repair shop opened in my area and wanted to replace my entire charging port, but when I took it to a guy who does it for cheap, he literally said all it needed was a cleaning, 2 hours and I hand my phone back, fully capable of charging at high speeds
I've fixed a couple of my own devices and computers a few times using iFixit and their website, and they literally deserve so much praise. Awesome awesome awesome business.
I am currently watching this video on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra that I fixed. Best decision I've ever made. * Front camera is a bit blurry, which is common are removing and reinstalling, but I much rather have it be my fault than someone else's.
I think anyone that considers themselves a phone enthusiats should fix their phone at least once. Welcome to the club MKBHD team. I have changed the batteries on at least 3 phones and 1 MBP.
Fun clip, i think i would love fixing my own phone now! 19:10 about what Mariah said, is true. When i used to repair my phones i've had in the past, they used to be lagy and slow for some reason. YES, it was third party repair. So today for instance, i have a iPhone 12 and the back glas is broken (yes, i rock without a case, why in the would would you make your phone bulky) but i'll stick with it till it probobly dies🏎Ride or Die
Trying to replace my pixel 7 pro screen. Its been 2 hrs with the ifixit iopener and a blow dryer after an hour of that, and i still haven’t gotten the old shattered screen off. Its actually even more shatterd
Asurion next to me are superb at fixing phones. And they are certified. They made my fold like new. So, it’s probably the rare case of bad fixes getting into the press. But, I think majority results will be great.
I replaced the screen on my iphone 11 recently and I was really surprised by how difficult it was to get the guitar pick under the edge of the screen to start. The suction cup I was provided with was too weak and would pop off just as I started to see a gap big enough to slide the pick in.
0:52 I can’t find her in the meet the staff section of the description, might sound weird reading this but out of everyone the only person that’s missing is their link, wanted to follow the hosts
Way cool makes me think I might try a DIY repair if there was a need, my biggest concern is being old AF and my eyes dealing with all the tiny screws and such.
You should! It's fun. If you're worried about older eyes, or if you just got janky eyes from the start, you can buy some cheap, lighted jeweler's magnifier glasses. I use them when doing SMD micro soldering and they work wonderfully. Never let anything hold you back!
“I’d rather mess it up myself” is a really important quote, knowing how hard Apple is locking down third party and self-repair. Buying their parts and doing it yourself is more expensive than giving it to a certified Apple repair center and having someone else do it. It wouldn’t be so bad if Apple allowed users to verify and calibrate the parts online without having to painfully churn through a tech support chat process to do so.
The logo on Marques' t-shirt (New York PoNY ultimate frisbee team) is mostly a copy of the KNVB (Dutch soccer team) logo which they've had since 1997, before New York PoNY was established. Wondering if they licensed it.
Official Google Pixel parts are sold by iFixit, and Google supplies users with the necessary calibration software. Apple makes it a bit trickier, and while it will still work with third party parts, you'll get a popup when booting the phone and lose certain features like battery health. Face ID will still work if the component is transferred to the new screen (since it's tied to the logic board). If you opt to get genuine parts from Apple's Self Repair Service, you need to contact them to authenticate the part, but that's the only hoop that needs jumping throuh.
Wait... Did they say who won the race?! lol Also, love our Wave Form hosts but I think the Pixel team stole the show! Need to see more of them, they make a funny team!
