@D-Tech The 12 and 13 minis have infamously bad battery life. Since the tech is so demanding and the batteries have to be so small, the capacity is just not there. It would probably be fine for a little while but it would quickly start to get significantly worse.

It’s crazy as a phone & tech person, I can clearly remember each iPhone and android I used and this timeline brought back some memories. This video was great Marques! We need an android version for sure
@@bd8843 Good chance to make a couple of videos then. One for Samsung, one for Xiaomi etc. As an Android user(don't like overexpensive stuff at bad price/value so I was never meant to be an iPhone user) though each of us had a different experience switching threw devices unlike iPhone users that simply had what Apple gave them. When the first smartphones launched I was still using my Sony Ericsson K800i cypershot for another 2-3 years. It was no smartphone but the pictures were the best at the time and you could still play videos on it or play mp3 etc. Then started with Android with a Samsung Young I think it was called. Just a cheap 100 euro entrance to Android really. Had it for a while until cheap manufacturers started making strides in Android. Got some unknown brand phone called "Prestige" because of good price and features. The Android was stock and the phone was metal with a nice glass screen while everyone was still mostly doing plastic. Not very powerful though and it quickly became useless and stuck in a boot circle. Then tried ulephone power while looking for a big battery phone. It was doing what it was supposed I guess and I smashed the screen to pieces after just 10 months, so my fault there. That was the time(2017) that I started looking for a big screen phone and discovered this brand that was making ways with decent devices and more professional built than the usual cheap smartphone makers. It was called Xiaomi. Bought my Mi Max 2 and never looked back because it was great and I still have it and it works great still. Then got a Mi max 3(that am currently writing this from) after that the Redmi 9 Pro and now I rock a Redmi 10 Pro as well. Redmi 9 Pro was probably the least exciting of them because sound from mono speaker was worse and screen wasn't as great as the big 6.9 screen of my Mi Max 3. I went for it because Mi max line was dropped but the 10 Pro reinstate my trust with a great 120hz oled, awesome stereo speakers and the most impressive camera I have seen in such a relatively low priced device. So generally I am now sticking with Xiaomi since all the devices I got from them were more than good enough at amazing prices(all of the different models together probably cost me less threw the years than buying a single over 1000 flagship) and quite reliable since all devices still work great. I also have a Samsung A20e that I got as a gift. Not impressive but I use it whenever I want to take with me a small sized device since it is like an iPhone mini in size.
It’s still hard for me to fathom just how far smartphone technology has come since I graduated high school around when the first iPhone came out. Most of my phones have been Android but I still greatly admire Apple’s contributions to the smartphone phenomenon
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16, John 3:17
Apple's taptic vibration was so great that it actually had me originally thinking the iPhone 8 had a physical push button. I didn't realize that the 3D press functionality was what made it "feel" like a button.
I remember arguing with hella people at school that the button wasn’t a real button and nobody believed me, they had all thought it was an actual button and tbh I couldn’t blame them because that haptic “taptic” felt unreal
16:48 The 6S also supports iOS 15, 6 years old! Not nearly as snappy as anything newer, but the fact that it can run it "well enough" is pretty insane!
I worked on the "discoloration" issue and can tell you this was a major issue top-down from SJ. The result was that color standards and rigorous testing was implemented that continues to this day, with "Apple" versions of pigments/materials and much testing of color, luster, reflectivity and texture controlled. Apple sweats these details.
Just a couple minor friendly corrections: 1. iOS 7 actually came out with the iPhone 5S in 2013, not the 4S. 2. The iPhone 6S actually still supports iOS 15, just like the iPhone SE
@@jiseongkwon66 yes. That iPhone 6 and 6+ are stuck on iOS 12. The 6S models are still supported. You can look on Apples supported device page for proof. Your iPhone 6s Plus may not be getting the update either because your iPhone is out of storage (which is a very common problem), or you have a 6+ unknowingly I still have my old 6S in silver and I was able to update it I was 15 no problem
Woah Marques actually made that mistake! I never expected that. I remember very well that iOS 7 launched with iPhone 5S and TouchID and new 64 Bit chip. Maybe I know more about each of these iPhones that Marques. But I love his videos regardless.
My first iPhone was when I was in high school and that was 3G, and got a 5S on my Senior Year of high school, now I graduated college and became a teacher, time flies so fast bro.
I remember that the first iPhones (1, 3G and 3GS) were "good, but..." because there was something missing to make a full package. Then the iPhone 4 came out and that was a fully developed phone. I bought it and everyone who was looking at it was surprised, much more than they could be today for a 13 Pro Max 1TB, for example. It has everything of a modern phone: selfie camera, flash, games, a wonderful display, compact size.
At the time though it was normal for a phone to not have an app store and stuff so it was more typical of a phone at the time. The iPhone 4 was surprising at the time, to me it looked ahead of its time and at first it seemed most people weren't that surprised when the iphone 5 came out, they thought the 4 looked better.
I remember first holding an iPhone back when I was a freshman in high school. It was the 3GS and I remember being just blown away by it. I knew it was the future . I remember thinking to myself , “now this is what a phone should be like” . It felt sexy and sleek and I was really impressed by the screen and apps. I couldn’t afford it so waited until the 4s and finally got one and loved it. Every since then I have had an iPhone and just got the 13 pro max and I’m really impressed by it.
complelety unrelated but saw your surname that's very unique surname. Do you have family in UK? or any school teacher? A certain Mr. Noriega taught me when I was like 16 lol - he was great. Wonder what he is up to now
Lucky bastard, my mom said I was not going to have an iPhone before her. Also I wouldn't have been able to get one on my own because ATT has always been a bitch getting approved credit with and I was fresh out of HS in 2007 with no stable job yet. Now days I have ATT but it's shit service. TMobile has actually had better overall service in my city. Sprint went shit when they were bought out by that Chinese company. I remember being out in Flagstaff and TMobile back in the day had not so good service but Sprint had really good service.
Apple needs to do a classics series. Allow customers their choice of any design of the iPhone from 1 to 5s, but the internals have modern budget specs. Probably won't ever happen, but I can dream.
This was great! One of the only RUclipsrs who actually script their presentation so every second is filled with useful content. No filler. All value. And interesting. I made it through all 30+ minutes before I knew it. Wanted more. LoL. This guy is an internet treasure.
Honestly, this intro just made my day. It's just great to see those glimmers of really sweet shots on a platform like this. Usually there only barely seen in big documentaries and stuff, so it's really nice to see them sprinkled around here. Keep up the amazing work!
"Pro" will stay, in line with MacBook Pro and iMac Pro... Size naming changed away from 'Plus' to 'Max' to differentiate from services such as TV+, News+ Fitness + etc
I still remember listening to the original This Week in Tech (TWiT) podcast on 8hr long car trips on my 4s. To this day it remains as one of my favorite phones.
Why? The person he was replying to was asking why holding the phone in a death grip resulted in signal loss, something which happened in other phones at the time and still happens in phones today if you hold them the same way, it’s something people can literally repeat today with their current phone if they want, so it’s not like it was bad advice.
@@B.D.F. Signal loss is not something I’ve experienced, however I have had cuts/interruptions on a Bluetooth connection when the bottom corner of the phone had some pressure applied (e.g., leaning on something the right way with the phone in-pocket). Always thought it interesting.
iPhone 6S -- I miss 3D touch 😭. The tactile feedback was amazing and it increased usability of the device so much! I could always feel if I misclicked, was still able to navigate the phone without my glasses on or if I was half-asleep, even make a call without removing my phone from my pocket -- I could feel around on the screen with just the 3D touch. I just upgraded last year and the new haptic touch is just NOT the same.
@@chantzgaming Even with it's improved offline capabilities it's internet reliance is a major hinderance in a lot of areas. I also often have an issue to get it to do what I want/need and the things I do ask it to do sometimes take so long I feel as though I've wasted my time. IE using Siri in my car is necessary but painfully slow to the point that directions/destination changes are a hassle when they don't feel like they should be. IMO it's just something most people don't use because it's value is derived from doing things you can but slower which isn't really appealing.
@@dhanushkrishna2004 iPhone 12 on iOS 15, iPad Pro 2018 on iOS 15, and an Apple Watch SE on the latest software. It's just generally worse than Google Assistant and a pain to use/get to do what I need. It's offline functionality is still a joke imo. I actively avoid using it because it feels so slow compared to doing things myself (especially with iOS widgets) and I don't know anyone that use it outside of complete necessity. Idk dude it's just not that great and feels a bit underwhelming from what it *could* be.
Being 10 years on Android, I have never once used Google Assistant. I immediately disable it whenever I get a new phone. So I actually don't care if Siri is "bad" as long as the OS itself is secure, reliable and privacy focused, something which Android is far from.
I've jumped the fence to everything since smart phones came around, and I gotta say, the 5S is still consistently ranked at my favorite phone ever. For the entire 2.75 years I used it, it worked flawlessly. Then for the following 2 years my daughter used it, it worked flawlessly. The only reason we stopped her using it, was so she could play modern games like Roblox with her moms old iPhone 7 as we jumped to Galaxy 20 for this iteration. Seriously been considering coming back to iPhone in a few months when this S20+ is up
@@MiguelY22 having been a power user and developer of any phone I've had in my hands, I've always tried to be at the cusp of the latest and reasonably greatest. But now? I think I wanna keep it simple and go with the latest (and probably last) iPhone version that kinda resembles that old 5S of mine lol
The 4 and 5 were absolutely top tier. I love that the new ones kind of follow that suit but I'd love even more if they could start chasing the flush, slim design of it with today's screen layout.
You missed one of the biggest features of the iPhone 5S - it was the first 64-bit cell phone. ARM had released their 64-bit version of the ARM architecture, and Apple released the 5S in a *VERY* short time after. None of the Android CPU vendors had even started sampling 64-bit CPUs to Android phone makers by the time Apple was shipping the 5S.
The iPhone 5s made me start watching this channel Crazy that I ended up getting an Android as a first cellphone but kept watching because you got me hooked on tech 8 years ago.
Wow, all the 2016 memories started flooding back when the iPhone 7/7+ were mentioned. I remember being so in awe of the colours, the home button and the dual cameras. Kinda miss that!
And the "courage" to remove the headphone jack. Still baffles me to this day that the company known for explaining too you, here's why you need to spend 600$ minimum on our phones, reasoning for getting rid of the headphone jack is "courage". Are you serious, no techno babble no new innovative technology to justify it's absence just cOuRaGe.
@@MatejaMaric To be honest I still kinda miss it. I'm still using a 7 Plus, and I'm a cheapskate that still uses wired earphones. With the battery degrading, it's a little annoying that I can't charge while listening to music without purchasing Lightning splitters.
i feel the 5C was a great design for the time period where people were starting to get smartphones at a younger age. the 5C was my first smartphone and i was 13 and in 7th grade. i remember like literally everyone having the 5C as it was basically like the colorful iPods we all had beforehand. so like the 5C was a cheaper option for parents to provide a smartphone to their kid while the kid still being able to enjoy the colors and such with it. Also, the 5C was durable af, which is great for younger kids like i was who were super careless with their stuff. i remember the neon plastic part of the phone slightly popping off: but i would literally just pop it back on and it would work just fine.
I got my iPhone 5c at 14-15ish after having an iPhone 4, and I completely agree. Probably my favourite iPhone I’ve ever owned (4, 5C, 6S, 7 and X). Insanely durable and such cool colours!

It’s crazy as a phone & tech person, I can clearly remember each iPhone and android I used and this timeline brought back some memories. This video was great Marques! We need an android version for sure

I agree. Never been q Samsung guy but it'd be cool to see every galaxy s phone or every galaxy note

I think they will stick with pro as it’s across their entire product line eg. MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, AirPods Pro, iPad Pro, etc.
I agree as well. Even with “max” it’s basically a 3 tier system in their product drops.

Why? The person he was replying to was asking why holding the phone in a death grip resulted in signal loss, something which happened in other phones at the time and still happens in phones today if you hold them the same way, it’s something people can literally repeat today with their current phone if they want, so it’s not like it was bad advice.

IE using Siri in my car is necessary but painfully slow to the point that directions/destination changes are a hassle when they don't feel like they should be. The 4S didn’t have iOS 7 at first. It came with iOS 5. iOS 6 was the one that saw Apple switch to its own map data for the stock Maps app.
Exactly, iOS 7 was the major UI redesign, which came with 5s
You missed one of the biggest features of the iPhone 5S - it was the first 64-bit cell phone.
