- NEW! Exploding Dendrites! In todays video tutorial we are going to explore an exciting new twist on an almost forgotten acrylic pouring technique. Dendrites! Dendrites are really cool effects that you can create using acrylic paints or India inks . The science in this one is really cool. The paints and or inks fractal out to look like tree branches and or snowflakes. And the colors? Oh sweet baby Jesus they are gorgeous and so cool to watch. The brand I like best for India inks are Dr. Martin's Bombay brand. They sell many different colors in your local hobby stores or here amzn.to/3KboTWj. For acrylic paints the brand that works the best and is pretty much effortless is the Golden High Flow line amzn.to/44TI8f4 .
Typically you just put a drop of ink or paint on the canvas and then add a drop of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to it for exploding colors to form however in today's video I also test regular tube paint and dry pigments. In the end i was able to create a magical piece of art and I beg you to please try this. Here is how I did it!
I thinned down some bright aqua green acrylic paint [liquitex brand] with some water until it flowed off the stick and left no mound of the surface of the paint in the cup.
I poured that paint on the canvas and tilted it around until the canvas was covered.
I then added drops of ink or my pigment mixture [ 1/4 teaspoon dry pigment, 4 dropper fulls of a coordinating ink color and water to thin] to the canvas and put 1 drop alcohol on top. I waited 2 minutes, added another drop ink and or pigment color, 1 drop alcohol and continued to rotate between the 2 products until I was happy with the dendrite it created. Please be patient with formation of dendrites. This takes time so give it a few minutes to form.
For acrylic paint I used high flow paints which as you saw really didn't need alcohol but it is perfectly fine to use it. If you use a tube paint make sure it is extremely thin. I would experiment with just water or water and a pouring medium to thin the paint down.

So amazing! Thank you so very much for taking the time to TEACH us this technique! You wow me every time 🌹
This is wonderful. Can you try the pigments with just alcohol instead of the India Ink? What other brand is high flow besides Golden? I love your painting. Thanks for sharing.
And here we go again! Another beautiful technique! You just keep reinventing yourself Tammy, I love it!
Hi Tammy im watching this video and was looking for the brands , does any India ink work and high flow paint work , I live remote so I really only have the option of buying online although I do have a lot of colourarte pigments from a few years ago but seen liquidtex sell India ink ? 🙏 love your art as always your a great teacher
Fascinating!! I love watching the dendrites grow!! 😊 Much love Tammy!! 💜😍💜
I wonder if the Liquitex fluid paints would work?
So beautiful... I could cry! The colors and shapes are captivating. Thank you!
Can you resin over the top of them if you don’t use pigments?
You're such an inspiration, Tammy! BTW, great tip on using spray varnish over pigments in the prior video!❤
After you resin do you use a heat gun to pop air bubbles?
Tammy I have no words in how you find so many ways to show us different ways to be creative. I love ❤️ you for being a blessing to us. God bless you 😊
This piece turned out absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! And it looked like you had fun doing it!! 💜🤯💜😍💜🤯💜
It needs a lil clown fish!! (Nemo)
Tammy my beautiful friend you had me mesmerized 😳😳😳😳
😍😍😍😍
I enjoy watching You BLOOM
And become the Sparkly ArTiSt that is YOU
💜🥰🤗👩🎨🎨🖼😘
Absolutely magnificent it was like watching a science project that turned into a beautiful painting 😍 what else are those Bombay inks used for or how do you use them?
You are such a good teacher Tammy and talented to boot! You blow me away! ❤️
That's gorgeous. When I first started pour painting, I did one that formed dendrites... accidentally. I learned it was because my paints weren't equal in consistency. But, being new to acrylic pouring, I thought I was making a mistake rather than deciding I liked the results. Learning to go with the flow, no pun intended, has been a learning experience.
Thank you Tammy, great visual and spoken tutorial, understanding this technique now. Thank you so much ❤
Awesome Tammy, beautiful!! You answered So many questions. Lots of information. So creative, it's magical watching. Thanks for all your expertise. Have a great day. 😊💖
Painting is great. Thank you for sharing your experiments ❤❤❤
😍 I'm stuck... do I tell you I want it now, or wait to see how much more gorgeous you can make it! How about I say SOLD now and you do what you feel is best? Feel free to go further on this gem. 😘🤗
Delightful. What a fun piece Tammy.
All week II look forward to this half hour spent with someone who loves color as much as I do. You make my heart happy and so does this technique.
Much love.
Magical. Can’t wait to try this
Love the coral 🪸 look you got on this. Very pretty!
What can u use if u don't have Indian ink
🎉🎉🎉❤😊
Where do you get the alcohol that you use
I am not talented. I would love to try
Stunning result Tammy ❤
Hmm!!!
Fractals?
Great tutorial
It's just beautiful 😊
Beautiful
Gorgeous! ❤😍
Love it!
Love!❤❤❤

Gorgeous!🪸
This was *fabulous* content! Because I want to use these for skins, I paint on silicone or plastic so I can peel it off when dry. I can’t use water to thin because it completely separates (and that’s an understatement). So I used liquitex with Amsterdam white and then followed Tammy’s instructions to a “T”. It worked perfectly!! I wish I could post a pic, I just love the effect!
Have you tried adding the alcohol after your creation is complete and dry? I’m curious. I suppose I could try it on my own, however I was wondering if you had already attempted that. Thanks in advance and have a wonderful day.😊
I love this! You’ve created a beautiful piece thank you for sharing your progress!
I have a question please. And I am really intrigued with this process. I should have recalled it because of my son, doing this kind of art in grade school, and they taught about chemistry etc. But my question is this: Have you ever done this with house paint, as a pillow instead of thine out white acrylic paint? I already ordered my Bombay inks, and will try this soon. I will make mention of you, so people can see your channel. Thanks for sharing this...
Very beautiful. A stupid question I know but can you or do you get air bubbles with this style? Can you torch them if you do? Or would alcohol catch on fire?
Hi Tammy, I absolutely love your work. I am from Western Australia and want to know if the products you use are available in Australia?
I am having trouble getting your list up on my screen, is there any way can send it to me please. Kind regards Cheryle
I was just doin research for an abstract and these remind me of the markings on the fish as well. Gorgeous Tammy!
You’re inspiring me!!! ❤❤❤ So what do you think would happen with resin? Also, do you think this can be done on a wood substrate as long as you flood it with the base?
can you use acrylic ink instead of the Bombay ink?
Tammy how about ready to pour paints would those work?
Oh yea! I actually think that I can do that! 😊
awsome tammy❤❤❤❤❤
