= FOR THESE FRACTALS I USED :
▪️- For the white background I used Artist Loft Flow Acrylic White from Michaels as the background... but ANY white acrylic paint seems to work (I tried at least 4 brands too, including Liquitex Basics and DecoArt Americana Titanium White with similar results).
Liquitex Basics Titanium White: amzn.to/2TG2gwe
▪️- The colors I used for the fractals :
Liquitex Acrylic Ink - Deep Violet
Golden Fluid Acrylic - Quinacridone Magenta
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic - Titanium White (to make colors more pastel ... not for the background)
Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Ink - Teal
Liquitex Acrylic Ink set of 3 primaries : amzn.to/2UbVa73
Golden Fluid Acrylic set of 10 : amzn.to/2HJYjoO
Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Ink set of 12 : amzn.to/2FuQ1NR
▪️91 % Isopropyl Alcohol
▪️"Mystery product" ... watch the video to see what it is 😊
= My white background paint was mixed using my regular fluid painting mix:
1 - 2 parts paint to 4 parts Floetrol
Floetrol : amzn.to/2U2wZse
I then add a little water if necessary to get my paint to be the consistency of really warm honey, or like heavy cream. The amount of water will depend on the type of acrylic paint you used ... Flow acrylic (runny like house paint) will need very little water if any, while medium to heavy body paint (thick like toothpaste) will need more water. Try to limit the amount of water that you use ... too much will break down the binding properties of the acrylic paint. How much is too much? Try to keep the amount of water under 50% of the amount of paint.
= Once my paintings dry, I spray them with a low odor, user-friendly, crystal clear, museum-quality varnish designed for acrylics, oils and watercolors. It gives a glossy finish.
Here is a link: amzn.to/2jGh3KO
When I want to spray a matte/satin finish instead, I use this: amzn.to/2fvgYF0
Thank you in advance for watching the videos, sharing them, commenting and leaving a thumbs up. Your kindness helps my channel continue and it is all greatly appreciated! May the alcohol inks, resin, and paints be kind, and may the pours be with you. 😊💕
Myriam, if I may address you as such. I have been painting for well over sixty years, always experimenting and learning new things every day. I have to say that this is one of the finest videos and commentary from you that I have ever seen. Superb work by someone that like me does not like to be beaten when striving to find new ways of doing things. Thank you so much for posting, every day is a school day. May I wish you well in art and in life.
Thank god for people willing to risk blowing their houses up in the name of art lol. TFS
Ha... Art first! Structural integrity...eh!! 😄 It was my pleasure to share... And risk life and limb😂. Thank you for the grin! 💕😊
Myriam's Nature 😊
😂🤣😁
Thank you for being obsessive and figuring this out, and then sharing it. Your sense of humor is refreshing.
Myriam, I am a retired science teacher, grades 7-12. Your scientific approach to understanding the reactions that paints have to non-paint substances are exactly what artists need to truly enjoy their work. Thank you for all that you do to solve the mysteries.
'Short of apple juice and milk'🤣🤣this is so cool to watch!
You are just the best teacher ever! I love your storytelling quality while keeping to the topic. Without the just fill in silence with chatter about the weather and your upcoming doctor appointment, etc , everything you say has to do with what we're learning! Grateful!
Thank you so much Debi… I appreciate that very much! 😘 I try to make videos I would want to watch, so I’m super happy that that style works for you as well! 😊💕
Methanol! I work in a lab and we use methanol for a fixative for our blood slides. We also use Wright-Giemsa stain which is just beautiful! The patterns the repelling water and evaporation creates are stunning!
Where do you get those?
THAT'S where I saw it before! When I took microbiology in college, I always thought some of the stains were so pretty! Lol
Girl you are the best😁
Heavenly Father gives us inventiveness in art
Yes, yes He does! Thank you!! 😊💕
You're killing me, Myriam! Every time I watch one of your videos, I have to go to Amazon and order more stuff! lol. : )
I was just thinking the same thing! I'm like the mad addicted Artist at large.
Oh my gosh... I'm soooo sorry Jackie. I know what that's like .... I feel as if I live at Michaels... So many supplies, so little time! 😄 I hope you make lots of fun stuff. Thanks for the grin! 😘
Oh dear Tania ... I'm wondering if we should form some sort of support group. 😂 I'd happily be a charter member.
I thought it was me! I’m just starting but having so much fun, and the learning never stops, thank you.
Same here... I just spent a small fortune on inks, stamp cleaner and whatnot... :D Makers are dangerous for other makers LOL
This has to be one of the most fascinating videos on paint that I've seen!
I'm so happy that you enjoyed it! 😊💕🎨
I love and appreciate the effort you've made to expand the possibilities for dendrites. Even more amazing is that you didn't use silicone, which then has to be cleaned off. Can't wait to experiment with your many great suggestions. Thank you, Myriam. I subscribed (I'd be crazy not to!)
Awww, thank you so much Vicki! I hope that this channel will be useful to you. 😘💕
Best Fractal tutorial EVER!

my 9 year old is obsessed with his alcohol inks, helps him deal with his epilepsy. I can't wait to show him this! cheers!
Oh Myriam, you are the "mad chemist" of paint! LOL I love watching your demos. You're a lot of fun and so real. Thanks for taking your time to do all this for us.
Ha... I felt like a mad scientist running around the house collecting cleaners, and such 😃. I'm happy I come across well to you Eleanor... Thank you! 😊💕
I love you! So fun!
I need a shopping list!
Wow, Wow, Wow!!! I am blown away!!! I have supplies but did not know about this technique!!! You are just amazing!!! Love this!!!
LOL you had great time making this video, love to hear you laugh. Great video xx ;)
Making these is really like being a kid again... It's hard to keep the glee inside 😃. I'm glad it didn't sound too goofy. Thanks Paul! 😘
One word -- awesome!!
Oh thank you so much Kryssy! 😊💕
This showed up in my suggested and I just wandered in. BUT wow this is pretty cool!!
Oh my gosh Cinnamon... You have been one of my heroines for the longest time! I am delighted that you liked this... Thank you very much for taking the time to comment!! It has made my day! 🎉❄️💕😘💕❄️🎉
I know, I want to try it.
two of my fave arty ladies!
I just found Miriam too and I agree theartsherpa with Miriam, you too have been a great inspiration! Two talented ladies!
I am going to try making a few ATC's using these
What pretty Christmas cards these would make!
I had purchased acrylic inks in error. Originally wanted to try alcohol inks. Tried a number of attempts to use the acrylic inks but nothing was satisfactory. Thank you so much, it has relieved my frustration and opened a new door of creating.
Thanks for all the great info. Pigment can also move through water without using the white acrylic. Works better when the paper is at a sweet spot of saturation and dries quickly. Like a coated paper
I feel like I'm getting a professional level lecture each time I watch you. So darn happy I found you.
I love this and your ability to share.... and "everything just short of apple juice and milk"! 💞
I love this! I have also been experimenting for this effect. I have found a couple of paints you might like! The Testors Aztek airbrush paint does this straight from the bottle, and this morning I found that Ranger Patina paint does as well! So exciting! Thank you for showing me how to do it with ink and regular paint. You rock.
I haven’t see you in forever. I’m super happy now🤦♀️
This post is 5 yo
Brilliant! It was like a combo science/art lesson! Loved it!
Ha... I love that! Thanks Diane! ❄️💕😊
I LOVE how you explain all the differences in your work.
Many thanks for that Donna! Qa
Myriam, keep up your experimenting. What a wonderful tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That is cool! All I could see was snowflakes, lol. And every time you would say FEED them, it cracked me up!
I am so glad I watched this video. After watching I had to immediately subscribe! I love how Myriam keeps it so real. She is so funny, and easy to follow throughout her videos. I love how she isn't scared to experiment and use different things to get her work done. I love the pick idea to spread the paint. I have Bombay ink and acrylic ink, and I am so excited to try this for myself! I had no idea I had all the tools to do this project. Thank you Myriam!
I bet it would have been fun to watch you experiment with all of your liquids, and listen to you as well. Great video as usual, and very informative.
I don't know Rosanne... I think you might have cried... LOTS of paint ending up in a discard bucket. I just kept reminding myself of what Edison might say: "now I know 20 ways NOT to do it!" 😄 There were occasional groans too (usually when I was scraping paint of the tile to reset for the next attempt 😂).
Thank you for the warm comment!
A great and extensive tutorial. I did not feel like speeding up the video at all. You're one of the best instructors.
That's so good to hear… Thank you very much for that super kind compliment! I really appreciate it!! 😊💕
I came across Gina DeLuca's post (2018) and she referenced you, so I followed - and I love what I saw. Science + art equals the best video!
Thank you!
WOW! Myriam, you've done it again. This is so amazing. I love it and think my art class at the library will love it! You are such a great resource. It isn't just the paintings. It's also the insight you give as to "why" you can or can't do something. I wish I could sit right beside you as you do these. I think that would be the frosting on the cake. Your beautiful videos are a high ranking second best. Keep on doing those wonderful things you do. Love, love, love your work, and your beautiful personality fills my creative well. Hugs and love for all you do for us!
Thank you so much for that Ann… I always appreciate your thoughtful comments!
Myriam "with a Y" you crack me up. loving your videos. You would be a fun friend to have.
What a lovely, lovely thing to say… Thank you very much for that Michelle! 😘💕
i just adore your video style.. informative and fun .. you are gem
That is so awesome to hear... Thank you very much for that Anna! 😊💕
Remarkable Techniques! Myriam, You Have Some Of The Best "Study Videos"...Helping Us By Revealing All Your Challenges Beforehand. Saving Us Time and Money Spent On Supplies! I For One, Really Appreciate This!
I am happy to share Terri... and I'm so happy it's useful! Thank you for always taking time to be so kind and encouraging., 😊💕
I bought a pick too Myriam and it’s the best.. not just because it spreads so well but it catches the cheeky lumps. Love your experiments.. never stop please or laughing😘
Oh you're riiiiight Joyce!! That IS an awesome bonus ... I forget that sometimes. I am delighted that you're enjoying the channel. Thank you! 😊💕🎨
Wow!! I’m obsessed with your channel!! You have ideas I have never seen anywhere else!!
That's awesome to hear… Thank you so much Kendra! I hope you'll stay tuned... There is so much coming! 😄💕 Thank you for the kindness!!
Your passion is so evident. And youre right, this will be a great project with kids! A great introduction to DIY art, science and most importantly mistake proof...since youve tried so many variations and solutions!
Thank you Matthew! I think kids would have a blast with these and it could definitely lead to a fun science lesson. They might even come up with new ways to make them! I hope you have fun trying it yourself. 😀❄️💕
You are my kind of girl. I love to play what I call "What If..." You do a great job and you explain so well. I am so glad I discovered your videos keep up the good work. You are a wonderful teacher.
Many many thanks for that Joyce! 😊
I just came across your channel today and am ready to try your alcohol inks on yupo paper, since I already have some. When I saw this video, I realized that I’m hooked on you! Thanks for teaching so many “cool” techniques.
Oh thank you so so much for that Cindi! I hope you have lots of fun trying these techniques. 😊💕
This has to be one of the best videos I've seen!! I watch a lot, and a lot are informative, but yours was awesome!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! You do such a good job of explaining each step -- you're very enjoyable to watch and learn from. :)
I know this video is 6 years old, but I have never seen this fractal art technique. I've been missing out all this time, LOL. So glad I found this tutorial. Loved it. And I very much appreciate your experimental mind!
ok so ive been pouring & i have had fractals on my mental to do list. I am sure you just saved me so much time & fussing! Absolutely wonderful! Thank you for your time & sharing this excellent tidbit!
Truly a pleasure Nicole! Thank you for that kind comment! I hope you have a blast making these... They're a tad addictive, to go along with the addictive pouring! 😄❄️💕
Nicole Gagnon i
So glad I discovered you, Myriam! What a wonderful tutorial, showing these techniques. Can't wait to play!
Me too Cheryl... Thank you!! I hope that you have a blast trying it! ❄️😊❄️
Wow Myriad what a fantastic tutorial! I love how every different addition has a different reaction. I could play with this for hours lol. Thank you xx
Oh my gosh... I did... It was a bit addictive! I'm warning you in advance OK? 😄 Thanks for the sweet comment Sharon!
Sharon Walker yes, I've watched 4 time & am on my 5th!
Fascinating! I cannot wait to try this and introduce my grandchildren who are so artistically talented!
Thank you Bivens... I hope that you will all have fun playing with this technique. 😊💕
How about adding the ink and alcohol in a squeeze bottle? That way you could make your drops smaller or larger by how long you squeeze the bottle. You could also do a lot of dots in a short period of time. Thanks, Myriam, for doing these experiments for us.
Ha... We do think alike Blaiz! I actually did try that while in my mad scientist phase (I'm rather squeeze bottle obsessed)... It certainly did work but the reason I went with the way I showed on the video is that the dendrite branches grow longer when you "feed" the fractal in tiny increments. I also prefer smaller centers... Putting a full, big drop causes a bigger center to form first, and THEN the branches start. It's a different look ... but definitely viable!
Thank you for always taking time to contribute... It makes this channel all the more fun! 😘💕❄️
Can alcohol inks be used?
You know, I love you! Your willingness to experiment, test, find solutions. I'm very much like you in that way. I feel like I can learn so much from you. I'm just getting to this space and so I'm hoping you're going to save me time........ :) Thanks in advanced. I've enjoyed every one of your videos......Learned so much already.
Wow! That's really cool! I'm definitely going to be doing this!
As usual, so clear explanations and beautiful results Myriam. Love you.
These are beautiful. I'm pretty sure the chemistry has to do with the density of the "paints" vs the white paint.
Myram, You are the best teacher! I'm doing this.
Thank you so much Valerie... I think you'll really enjoy it! 😊💕❄️
I loved that Dendrite Fractals technique - I`m just having trouble keeping UP with all the wonderful things I`m learning through various styles of paint pouring, etc.! Thank you so much for your efforts and the fun you inspire!
It is my pleasure Rosemary. I know what you mean.... There are soooo many things I want to try and don't think I'll LIVE long enough! 😄😂 Thank you for your kind words!
You make such informative videos. I love them.. now I wanna try it! 😜
I think you'll have such a blast Paula! Thank you. 😊
6:30am in Phoenix, Arizona. Knowing darn well I need to go back to sleep, I’m watching your art. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
😊💕 It was my pleasure... Thank YOU!
Very cool idea! Maybe if you added some glazing medium to the acrylic paint, not the fluid brands, it would thin the paint enough and glazing medium won't dilute the pigment like water does. Thanks for the hard work and all your experimenting...TFS
Hmmmm.... Interesting. I will have to try that. Thanks for the suggestion and kind words Mary!
Thank you for this pleasure :)
It was a joy to share... Thank YOU Voskresija!
Thank you! I have destroyed my entire house doing the same thing! I did discover that there is a tempra paint made by Dick Blicks called Jazz gloss. When it is put over acrylics, you get dendrites!
Ooooh...That sounds like fun and something worth trying when I get a chance. Thank you for sharing that Shelly!
"Fractals"... My Art has a Name!!!?
OMG... I am going to sound so Smart now,
talking about "Fractals" ...
I love your video/tutorial...
I learned so much from YOU...
Thank YOU so much for sharing...
Haaa... I love that Judi... thank you for that fun comment! 😊💕
majorly cool any way to transfer it to paper?
Hi Christonya! The fractals can be done on any surface that can stay level and can handle being wet for hours with the fluid layer of white paint. I do them on tiles for video demonstrations (because they're easy to wipe off when the paint is still wet). Once dry however, the paint will NOT peel off without destructive scraping. You could do it on silicone baking sheets, or wax paper though. On those surfaces, once dry, THAT paint skin should peel off easily and be transferable.
Some paper can be treated with gesso first to help make it waterproof... If the paper buckles from being wet it will warp or ruin the fractals that are formed. Other options might be acetate, transparencies, or Yupo "paper", which are already waterproof. I hope that helps a bit. 😊💕❄️❄️
That’s amazing. Can it be used on a canvases ?? X
can you use just the white pouring medium or does it actually need white acrylic paint added to that?
Oh I love this!! Thank you for sharing! I'm gonna try this this weekend.
Excuse me...
"Dendrite Fractals" (I got it now!)
.... OHHHHHH Ohhhhh OHHHH
Try Glycerin instead of the white paint...
I use Glycerin (on top) my WATER, then add
the watercolor to that and get (yeah I get to say it)
"Dendrite Fractals"
.... and I also use (good) Food Color Gels tooo...
they look just like Watercolors... Try that too.
Oooh... I've never ventured much into watercolors but now you’ve got my head spinning! I thank you so much for that!
Congratulations. Presentation is so important, and yours was outstanding.
The dark purple and the pink are so pretty. Now to patent that combination before it blows the house up. Lol I’m kidding. They are really pretty though
Ms. Myriam, I just wished for you to know that you are the sunshine to the beginning of my day! I'm not doing very well health wise and I look for you every morning to start my day! Your laughter and radiant soul is what keeps me knowing I may make it through another day with a smile on my face! ❤️ I feel like you are my friend who doesn't know I exist, yet I look for my friend every day! Thank you for being you! ❤️ 🌹 💐
Who knew?!? Excellent video! Thank you!
I just want more of the inks and alcohol videos, just fun and colourful for simple joy..How pretty this stuff is❣️💝😻
😊💕
Omg you made me laugh!!😂🤣❤.." I tried everything short of apple and milk!!" Hahaha!!!
I’m so happy you got a good chuckle out of that 😁. Thank you for letting me know Gaylene! 😊💕
Hello, Myriam. I just found you! Your teaching style kept me interested through the whole video as well as two others.
I haven't found anyone whose teaching keeps me focused through the entire video. Thank you for sharing.
That’s awesome to hear... thank you so much for that Carol! I devote a LOT of time to editing so it’s awesome to hear that it keeps viewers engaged! I truly appreciate your kind feedback... it makes this all the more worthwhile!! 😊💕
Love the look these make. Thank you for being a great science teacher!
Love your videos Myriam. Glad you didn't blow up the house! Thank you.
Oh my gosh... this made me literally laugh out loud! Thank you Karin, for the kindness and the chuckle! 😘
Would be sooo cool for Christmas /winter snowflakes
You crazy girl! I can imagine you acting like a mad scientist. Thanks for your obsessive nature, it helps us less adventurous makers!
You’re such a pleasure to listen to!
😊💕
Wow Myriam... you sure did your homework with this! Brilliant!!! Thanks you for this fantastic video...
It was absolutely my pleasure Margareth! Thank YOU!
I adore your videos and commitment to experiment until you achieve the results you want!
Girl, you are GOLD! Such good content!
Many thanks for that Lules!😊💕
Like the lady below, this showed up on my feed. So glad I did. Not only was this really informative, but I loved your personality & enthusiasm.
Awwww, thank you so much for that Angela!! 😊💕
Up date: the kids loved it. We have done the activity 2 days in a row and will again tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
AWESOME...that is so wonderful to hear... Thank you for sharing that Andrea!! 😃💕❄️❄️
Really like fractals; so great of you for giving us such great tips. Saves waste & money for seniors like me with a limited budget. So grateful. hug
If you watch more of my channel you'll discover that I just hate waste... It breaks my heart to lose paint when it could be used to make pretty things and have fun instead! Whenever I think of ways to save everyone paint and money, I promise to share! 😊💕 Thank you for the hug... I love them! 😘
Thank you for making it clear to me. I'me going to try it with food coloring.
I used to paint with food coloring by dripping it on paper and using a straw to blow it around. Now that I am on oxygen there is no blowing allowed, Your method makes it clear for me. I love dendrites.
Hi Miriam!
I am fascinated with all types of art and recently came across your videos. I shared them with my daughter-in-law, Izzy, and found out that this is something she has always wanted to do as well, so..... I just found my partner in crime to help me try a few of your videos out! Lol.
Although, we don't expect that ours will turn out as amazing as yours, I am sure we will have a lot of fun doing them.
In a good case scenario..... we may end up with, well, not quite a masterpiece, but at least something, um, ...... interesting and perhaps.... unique to hang on the wall.
In a bad case scenario...... we can be thankful that nobody was injured (we pray not) and hopefully we not only learned something and had fun while making our mess but since it wasn't a catastophe, we can then move on to trying out your next video. Lol
Hi Shannon... Absolutely no need to risk bodily or home harm doing this... I think I did that enough for everyone 😄😂. My hope is that you are instantly successful as soon as you try.
About the food coloring, I have been asked many times and I honestly don't know the answer. My guess is that if the main ingredient in food coloring is water it probably wouldn't work because it would be watering down the alcohol... I suspect that is the reason trying thinned down acrylic paint hasn't worked well either.
If you get a chance, watch this second video I posted on making fractals... It should hopefully give you some ideas and answer some questions: ruclips.net/video/u2SgW9n6fV4/видео.html I hope that you both have a blast trying it! 😊💕
You are so sweet to share all your research with everybody. Thankyou so much I really enjoyed and learned from this. Bless you dear!!!❤
Thanks so much! I discovered fractals by accident and had been experimenting (with limited luck). Thanks for the 'leg-up'.
Brilliant tutorial Myriam; thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Much love and peace from Greenwich London UK.
OMGoodness, these are really cool looking!
It's a beautiful form of creating beauty... almost sacred.
Oh wow... thank you Thomas! 😊
Your work is very beautiful. And your voice has a soothing sound to it as you explain yourself.
You are the greatest. Seriously. Your work your experiments and your clear professional voice!
Oh thank you soooo much Joyce!
Myriam you are a genius...you figured out the mystery! Thank you sooo much! Knowing that the ink is just coloring the alcohol that form the dendrites throws a whole different slant on this technique.
It was a fun process ... I went through a LOT of paint, but it looks like it was worth it. I'm so happy the results are coming in handy for you! Thank you for the really kind comment Laurie!
Waaaayyy cool! I'm gathering all the "ingredients" so I can play along. Thanks so much for sharing.
It was my pleasure… Thank YOU Gerry! I hope that you have a blast playing with these! ❄️😊❄️
They are gorgeous! So much fun!
LOVE this video. Someone suggested searching acrylic dendrites and yours came up one of the first. Just subscribed. I always wonder on these videos WHO are the people that click the thumbs down icon.... why?? You are so clear in your explanations, so thorough. How can anyone not like this? Thanks for this great video.
Thank you so so much Betty! Welcome to the channel!! 😊 I’m delighted that you found this useful. I imagine that people who “thumbs down” had other expectations maybe?? Or maybe they just enjoy the “power” of clicking on that thumb 😂🤣.
I love your video! I can tell you are smiling and your enthusiasm is contagious!
Thanks for sharing your art-journey with us! 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 Very interesting to watch! 🎨♥️
🤣🤣You sound like me, amazed by my art work & that I'm still standing 🥴🤠🤣🤣. Stay blessed beautiful 🌻💙💜🏴
