Very nice! I was a big Ford 6 fan for years (honestly still am). So you did the 240 head, good. Big fan of Ford trucks .Built a 73 F-100 with a 460 & a 86 F250 (swapped from a 150) 4x4 with the 300 . the 4x4 is a workhorse. Both great engines. My son has a 93 F-150 with a 300 / 5 speed. 250k miles just redid the head as it was run hot b4 he got it. I like the simplicity and reliability of these old Fords. Can't beat em
Great job! I'm getting a 1967 f250 later this month and it has the 352, but it's been sitting 15 years more or less... after seeing your videos I decided if the engine's junk I'm dropping in a 300. Love the patina, mine's the same way but it's white. Keep up the good work, Ian
My 68 swb has a 300 6 cyl. And it pulls like crazy. It actually pulls better than many trucks with big V8s . Its got a C6 auto. I've had many offers for it, including a 72 chevy c-100 , snb, very nice 🚚, straight up even trade, it took me 20 seconds to reach a decision. I went with my f-100. Haven't regreted it ever. Had this truck for almost 39 years. Part of our family. I pulled a load of metal to recycle yard 40 mis. away, no problem, plenty of torque, when I hit 65 mph. the truck would sway a little so I slowed down to 60 sway went away. When i got to yard, scaled out , got weight ticket, I couldn't believe that my truck had pulled a load of 5,956 lbs. + the weight of truck and two passengers = total of 9,886 lbs. It was scary for a moment, because my tires were old. It was an amazing experience for us , my friend also was amazed. The 300 6 was more than enough for the task. I was just grateful nothing went wrong on the way.
I drove a 1-ton Ford flatbed (11 ft.) many years. 300 cid. any weather did great! tuned it up once a year. lotta power. didn't need 1st. gear too much, but I'd get it most times starting out, just to cross my t's. lol that truck had a soul. I would haul 6 or 7 tons of lrg. pump castings 100's of miles on the highway at 50-55 mph! it just simply drove. Ford should make their engineering personnel drive a truck like that for a month or two as a prerequisite for working for them. the executives too!
I've done several different builds , but putting a turbo on this 300 was the bomb. this torque monster lit up. pro charger was good but nothing like the turbo
im 1:14 in and i already like this. the engine looks like its never moved since 1967.. the valve cover goes with the hood and the block goes with the bay.. badass
I have a 1980 F-250 Manuel 4 speed trans, 4x4 300--6 with a Offenhauser intake and a holly 1150-CFM 4 barrow carburetor, duel header's and exhaust with high pass glass packs. It will out pull anything but won't go fast, so good thing I don't care about fast, just big and heavy loads.
I want to do another build. Back in the 80s I had a 68 with 300 with same Clifford intake with a holly on it. Headers too with glass pack exhaust. Sounded like an airplane miles away. No matter what, still 8 MPG. Friends thought it was a 8 cylinder with the power and torque.
Awesome truck man. I really like that you don't have any chrome on the engine. I hate chrome LOL. Everything looks good, and it sounds good. I was hoping to watch you drive away with that load of wood, though
I love the way you can load the hell out of those old trucks. So many people use their trucks today as cars that they just aren't the same. I really want a mid 70's extended cab 4 door to drop this 7.3 IDI turbo project I'm starting. Think it would be perfect all the way around.
Nice little build but I assure you the 300 has alot left in it been building them for years and people really overlook the performance capabilities of these.
I noticed you are in idaho. I use to live in washington county. I'm about to pull the 302 out of my bronco and put a 300 in it. I'll be running in the weiser mud drags in 2021. Great build bro
Those ol' 352's in the pickups didn't make shit for power lol... the 390 was a huge upgrade to my truck. Nice job, those old i6 are tough engines! not too many people swap an FE for one of those!
I love those trucks that is my favorite truck ever and I am a Chevy guy but if I could find a clean 4x4 250 or 350 I would take it in a second. Your very lucky to have such a great truck keep it .
I dream to one day have the same truck... I love 3/4 ton bumside fords, I love your inline 6 build, one day there will be a very similar truck in the road😊
Years ago I found a f150 with the 300 with auto trans it had 83000 miles on it ran like brand new. It had one small rust hole in the side of the box so my dad wouldn't let me buy it. I was 17 and wanted a truck for farming. I was told the 300 6 was the best engine for pulling with.
Great job! I've been watching for the parts to do this exact same setup. The sad part is we junked a running f600 with the 240 in it several years ago. If only I had known what we had,NOT a fond memory to look back on now! Again, a very nice looking job!
Your f600 had a 300, unless someone transplanted it from a pickup or car. The truck engine has forged crank and heavier rods. The 240 had a nodular crank, not good in a truck.
I assumed the same thing, however when we checked the numbers on the engine it appeared to be a 240. As to whether or not it was transplanted I can't say. Either way it was a very good truck and I miss it! Have a lot of fond memories riding in it with my grandfather.
I have a quick fuel 450 cfm 4 barrel on my straight 6 with 2 piece exhaust manifold runs like a beast, need to change rear end gears but runs like a beast
I've got a 1978 3/4 ford bone stock 300 straight 6 leaks oil from rear main. Gutless but a lot of tourgue its daily oil regiment is what ever I can find from Atf fluid to half a bottle of 80 90 gear oil topped off with a bottle of 10bw 40 shuts the rattling lifters off but dam near indestructible
Late to the dance but I bought my parents old hunting and fishing camp and included was a 1983 F150 4x4 standard cab short bed 300 cuin/ 4 spd standard. The truck sat in a barn for over 25 years. I changed all the brake stuff but when I got to the motor. I drew the old fuel out and replaced it with some of bidens best then put a hot battery in it and hit it with starter fluid about 4 times and it came alive and been running great the last 8 months. I thought about replacing the belts, hoses, fuel pump and water pump but why fix what isn't broke. I put fresh 33x12.50x15s on it and even hit it with some rubbing compound. She shined right up, she's two toned blue with a fiberglass visor, brush guard and vintage matching 12,000lbs warn winch. I was hunting 460 swap videos however after seeing the videos on the 300 I've since changed my mind-why fix what isn't broke
Since this video, I did a full bottom performance re-build which included a new crank and rods, stock cast pistons, moly rings, .40 over on the cylinders, a 260 comp cam with adjustable Cloyes timing gear set with 2 degree advance, the estimated cr for the engine is 9.2:1. (Two months after this video, the engine gave out and lost its compression. Upon dismantling, I found that four of the six cylinders had broken and shattered compression rings. My machinist had to bore it .40 over. He said it had some of the worst taper he had ever seen.)
+THE67MIGHTYMOUSE get you a turbo off a cummins, the 300 efi's make 200hp and 400ft torque with turbo. so a properly done engine with one would be even better.
I actually did consider a turbo build, I did a fair amount of research on it, however the build would go against my three greatest requirements of an engine: simple, reliable, durable. I don't have the know how to build it to those requirements. Maybe someone else would. Sure would be fun though, much more power to be gained!
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE i think it would be more simple than say porting and polishing or blueprinting? you have an awesome truck that will outlast anything new you could buy today, have you got enough spare parts to keep it running tho? that is my only concern for my old amc is brakes and body panels, bearings engines ect i can use anything doesnt matter but those brakes and the body are a different thing again.
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE I like the 300 six in my Ford 3/4 ton van compared to my Dodge 3/4 ton van which I sold because I was not happy with the Dodge slant six which was a slow performer compared to the 300
Canyon County. Hope we cross paths sometime. 71 F250 4X4 crewcab. I custom built a 300 I6. I love it. I would love to talk to your neighbor about the quaderjet. I ran one on a 76, 300 - I6 and it was awsome. I have a couple but they need work and set up for this engine.
Very nice. Hold on to that crewcab. they are rare. I would love to see it sometime. I am curious how that six powers it. Four doors is a lot of heavy steal. Hope you can keep it for a good long while.
Yes video of you driving would be great but man this is a great video you did it all you make great videos . Good luck on your future with it and thanks for the upload.
Classy work My friend, she's one sweet old highboy. I like all the small touches like the 2bbl auto lite, the air cleaner. And in all honesty all 300 's ford 6es are a little rattle but there super solid engine and very very very rely able. Love the truck man!
I noticed your brake booster is T' off with the PVC hose, I've never seen that, and you have 2 pvc's, I'm going to hook up a second one, because I've noticed I've got some blowby happening, thought it may help suck it out of valve cover,..... Man your truck is a work horse .
Sir, the 352, 390, 360 if built and running right, the 300 inline is not and will not have more Torque, where the 300 is Golden, is the consistent Torque with the right gear range and take all it has and then stay alive time after time, the Big Blocks are not known to stay alive under high RPM's consistently, in other words that 300 inline will go up and down more times no matter how you treat it, PLUS they are a whole easier to work on and rebuild, cost effective, Just my opinion. Thanks for showing and i love every bit of the Truck!!!
Your rattle is likely the lifters or the timing gear. Easy to determine with a hose with one end to your ear and the other to the area your are checking out. If you look you will notice the 300 has dished pistons whereas the 240 has flat top pistons this is the method used in keeping the compression down on the 300. I believe the heads are the same. An Offenhauser dual port intake will increase your bottom end torque. I would check out that timing gear because it could leave leave you broke down somewhere. Find a steel gear if you can. I love the 300 because it is so easy to work on.
I have since rebuilt the bottom end. The rattle was the piston skirts in the loose bore. Four of the six top compression rings were broken, some in several pieces. My builder had to bore it out .040 just to clean up the bore.
hey question my muffler has blown up twice from backfire,,,85 chevy van just smogged it,,,I saw your glass pack and gave me a idea to put one on where muffler is,,,is that ok to do and whats your advice on doing that????
I like your truck. My dad's f250 is a 79 with Dana 60s front and back with a four speed granny and a 351m. The engine is weak and gets bad fuel mileage. It needs a 351 Windsor and it would be the perfect work truck.
Nice beautiful truck. I wonder how if all 300’s in that era have the 6 smog manifold tube ports in each cylinder head top? I plugged mine off after taking off the smog crap. have a 1967 300. About to put a holley 350 cfm performance carb on it. Should wake it up.
Where ya at man? I'm in nampa/caldwell. Just did my straight rebuild. truck is my daily driver, but I did her stock. Other than the exhaust. Went with EFI headers, H pipe, muffler. Sounds like a 289 now. Intake is still the single carter. I have 130amp alt from 96 taurus, electric fan from a 95 Tbird and a sig power steering pump ready to go in her. Aluminum radiator as well. My next build I'd like to go with a bit beafier cam, heads and get some more ponies out of her. If you are close, I have an extra 130amp alt and E fan and sig pump.
The 300 is already a stroked version of the 240. I don't think you can stroke it any further. I wish it could, can you imagine the torque? Maybe someone can, but none that I'm aware of.
Why buy the 4 Bbl intake and install a 2bbl carb? I guess you could always go up to a 4bbl if you didn't like the 2 ? I would think this engine could easily hang with that 318 no problem...no surprise there at all. GOOD WORK....nice to see someone enjoying one of the BEST engines Ford ever made.
I think my oil pump shaft is bent causing my distributor to wobble and we're out can I replace it from the top or do I have to take off the oil pan to get to that shaft
You should be able to pull the distributor and with it will come the shaft. If it doesn't, give it a wiggle and pull, it should come out even if crooked. It could also be a loose bearing in the distributor.
Rebuilding my 83 F100 long bed with a 300. Just blew a head gasket and decided to rebuild. How hard is it to install a comp cam and have everything running smoothly??
Nice 300,....im trying to get 81 going with a 300, got it used , it was in a late 60s truck with a straight axle, it has oil pan from a 200 (Is that possible?) The sump in front is sitting on the A frame, getting vibrations, ...can I order a pan just for a 300, or does it need to be for the year motor, how can I tell what year it is? The ol man told me it wasn't the original motor, thanks, is your truck still doing good?
whats your mileage like before and after rebuild/one barrel to two barrel? quadrajets are badass, low end torque of a dual jet and unlimited to end power for anything below a 5.7 liter
Mileage is about the same, maybe a little worse because I have my foot in it more. It runs more efficient, yet makes more power, requiring more fuel. If I drove like grandma, I think it would get better mileage than stock.
Q. I have a 1983 f350 with a 6.9 diesel that is getting tired, do you think if i put a 300ci which was a option back in the day my truck has a 2000lb slide in camper,
I Think it would pull it fine. I have a 23 foot pull behind that weighs about 5,000 lbs loaded. I can pull a 6% grade in 3rd gear at 45mph. On the flat and slight hills, it likes to cruse at 60-65 mph. (3.73 gears) It does not like a headwind though.
A 352 would easily out pull that 300 inline 6 with a 2v carb . The 352 wasn't a slouch. The 360 while being limited on HP due to low compression still had significantly more torque then the 300 inline 6
You can fool people who have never driven a 318 but you can’t fool me. You ported the head but used the stock cam. 5:45 A 299 cuin engine does not out pull a 352 cuin engine of the same year.
Thank you, I have since done a full bottom re-build and considered the 390 piston but instead went with a stock piston, 40 over with a 240 head. Block and head are shaved. My cr is estimated at 9.2:1.
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE sounds like a hell of a motor now bud, when considering another rebuild, go with the 390 flat top pistons, you will be amazed at the difference
Bohemia Lite hi i dont blame you for wanting one like this. I watched alot of mightymoues video it pushed me over the edge i ended up buying a 79 ford f150 4x4 with a inline 300
Too much, I don't remember. Piston for piston it cost more that say an fe block v8. This build was not the best money to power value. You can get a lot more power for the same price if you build a 390, but that's what EVERYONE does!
@@OnHighGround Oh i got that backwards. I put the edelbrock avs2 on mine with the annular boosters. Seemed to work great but I wonder if the fact that the primaries aren’t centered over the plenum makes a negative difference. I hope each of the cylinders are getting an equal charge.
Wow, it's been lots of years ago, im trying to remember, I don't recall the placement of the carb being much of an issue, but my application was for low to moderate tourque. I suppose for high rev application u would want to have the carb bores centered. I thought the carb looked better facing foward, so I just went with that
You can just tell the amount of pride he has in that truck nice build.

Hey. Can you give me some info on the 6 pack you're talking about. I have an 89 300 I'm gonna restore & build up.
I pulled a load of metal to recycle yard 40 mis. away, no problem, plenty of torque, when I hit 65
mph. the truck would sway a little so I slowed down to 60 sway went away.
I've done several different builds , but putting a turbo on this 300 was the bomb. this torque monster lit up. pro charger was good but nothing like the turbo
im 1:14 in and i already like this. the engine looks like its never moved since 1967.. the valve cover goes with the hood and the block goes with the bay.. badass
Nothing flashy, it all matches though.
Great truck! I have an 83 f150 4wd with the 300. I love it!
Have a 77 f150 4x4 swb manual 300 inline 6
I have a 1980 F-250 Manuel 4 speed trans, 4x4 300--6 with a Offenhauser intake and a holly 1150-CFM 4 barrow carburetor, duel header's and exhaust with high pass glass packs. It will out pull anything but won't go fast, so good thing I don't care about fast, just big and heavy loads.
I love them old ford trucks! Thanks for sharing brother.
Superb power plant one of the best made by any manufacturer
Great engine... lots of torque. Production was Stopped in 1996. I would love a fuel injected Bronco with it
I want to do another build.
John McCann chrome don't get you home lol
oh hell ya!!!!!!! beautiful truck!!!
i got an 86 f 250 302 first year efi.. 4x4, and a 94 f 150 4x4 with the 6 in a row, runs like a swiss watch...
How about a video of you driving the truck? I'm really interested in how the motor sounds and seeing how it drives. Love it, keep it up.
That's a "good" solid truck. It's not often you see one so unmolested good job :-)
I noticed you are in idaho. I use to live in washington county. I'm about to pull the 302 out of my bronco and put a 300 in it. I'll be running in the weiser mud drags in 2021. Great build bro
Nice. I have a '93 F150 long bed w/a 4.9. Love it. I thought it needed paint. Na. Just need to do some touch-up. Nice '67!
Love it 👍
Those 300s are some of Ford's best. My 88 is fuel injected and it has better torque numbers than my 95 with the 302 V8...
I had a 4.9 for 14 years, I had to change the oil a few times and the sparks once too. Ran great other than that.
Run half a million miles on gravel dust and sludge
I was told the 300 6 was the best engine for pulling with.
beautiful truck!
Nice truck man I plan on doing this exact build
Very nice truck!
Hi from Venezuela!! I love Ford
The start and run definitely interest me
I have a quick fuel 450 cfm 4 barrel on my straight 6 with 2 piece exhaust manifold runs like a beast, need to change rear end gears but runs like a beast
There is a very good reason why the intake and exhaust manifolds are connected originally. Go figure...!
I've got a 1978 3/4 ford bone stock 300 straight 6 leaks oil from rear main. Gutless but a lot of tourgue its daily oil regiment is what ever I can find from
Atf fluid to half a bottle of 80 90 gear oil topped off with a bottle of 10bw 40 shuts the rattling lifters off but dam near indestructible
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE
i think it would be more simple than say porting and polishing or blueprinting? you have an awesome truck that will outlast anything new you could buy today, have you got enough spare parts to keep it running tho? that is my only concern for my old amc is brakes and body panels, bearings engines ect i can use anything doesnt matter but those brakes and the body are a different thing again.
+THE67MIGHTYMOUSE Since yours is a 65 did it come with the rumored heavy duty forged crank or was that strickly for the dump trucks?
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE I like the 300 six in my Ford 3/4 ton van compared to my Dodge 3/4 ton van which I sold because I was not happy with the Dodge slant six which was a slow performer compared to the 300
That is a machine of a truck!! I love that truck!!
I can't believe you sold it!
Good luck on your future with it and thanks for the upload.
they do make a high performance 2bbl carb holley makes them and they are almost identical to 2100 you are currently running
like the Elmore county plates I'm at hwy 30 lol and recently bought my 82 f150 for 300$
Classy work My friend, she's one sweet old highboy. I like all the small touches like the 2bbl auto lite, the air cleaner. And in all honesty all 300 's ford 6es are a little rattle but there super solid engine and very very very rely able. Love the truck man!
oh my God increible Joya, chulada de trocona.
I noticed your brake booster is T' off with the PVC hose, I've never seen that, and you have 2 pvc's, I'm going to hook up a second one, because I've noticed I've got some blowby happening, thought it may help suck it out of valve cover,.....
Man your truck is a work horse .
It looks and sounds great.
Sounds like a diesel!
nice truck man, we have a 67 f350 with a v8 in it but it's all original
Sir, the 352, 390, 360 if built and running right, the 300 inline is not and will not have more Torque, where the 300 is Golden, is the consistent Torque with the right gear range and take all it has and then stay alive time after time, the Big Blocks are not known to stay alive under high RPM's consistently, in other words that 300 inline will go up and down more times no matter how you treat it, PLUS they are a whole easier to work on and rebuild, cost effective, Just my opinion.
Thanks for showing and i love every bit of the Truck!!!
best ol trucks on road.
Sweet ride!
Best truck engines ever.
Good Job!!!!
hey question my muffler has blown up twice from backfire,,,85 chevy van just smogged it,,,I saw your glass pack and gave me a idea to put one on where muffler is,,,is that ok to do and whats your advice on doing that????
I like your truck. My dad's f250 is a 79 with Dana 60s front and back with a four speed granny and a 351m. The engine is weak and gets bad fuel mileage. It needs a 351 Windsor and it would be the perfect work truck.
Nice beautiful truck. I wonder how if all 300’s in that era have the 6 smog manifold tube ports in each cylinder head top? I plugged mine off after taking off the smog crap. have a 1967 300. About to put a holley 350 cfm performance carb on it. Should wake it up.
I watched the first video awhile ago, You should put up a test run video.
Great vid. Do you know where 1978 ford f100 temperature sensor connector is located going into the firewall?
did you have to change the transmission when you swapped from 352 to the 300?
Pick up a used block, get it prepped and do a stroker kit on it Clifford has mostly everything
To my knowledge, I don't think there is a 2bb aftermarket manifold available. I got the 4bb cheap on craigslist
What were you getting for fuel economy after modifications
super helpful thanks
I'm in Boise also. Getting ready to build a 300 for my 1972 F-250. How do we get in contact?
I think my oil pump shaft is bent causing my distributor to wobble and we're out can I replace it from the top or do I have to take off the oil pan to get to that shaft
You should be able to pull the distributor and with it will come the shaft. If it doesn't, give it a wiggle and pull, it should come out even if crooked. It could also be a loose bearing in the distributor.
Looks great. Now get rid of that FRAM oil filter!
2 1/2" exhaust good deal.
Rebuilding my 83 F100 long bed with a 300. Just blew a head gasket and decided to rebuild. How hard is it to install a comp cam and have everything running smoothly??
what transmission is in there?
Nice 300,....im trying to get 81 going with a 300, got it used , it was in a late 60s truck with a straight axle, it has oil pan from a 200 (Is that possible?) The sump in front is sitting on the A frame, getting vibrations, ...can I order a pan just for a 300, or does it need to be for the year motor, how can I tell what year it is? The ol man told me it wasn't the original motor, thanks, is your truck still doing good?
Try to find an air cleaner with larger area for more flow. That housing may be restrictive. If the rods are loose, they'll break!
You should dyno it, and compare stock specs with your build.
Will the 300 inline 6 fit a 66 galaxie that has the 240 inline 6?
Same block
Absolutely!
whats your mileage like before and after rebuild/one barrel to two barrel? quadrajets are badass, low end torque of a dual jet and unlimited to end power for anything below a 5.7 liter
Mileage is about the same, maybe a little worse because I have my foot in it more. It runs more efficient, yet makes more power, requiring more fuel. If I drove like grandma, I think it would get better mileage than stock.
Mike Vukich long live the quadrajet.i like em.
My truck stalls and dies when I have a load of about 800 lbs or more. . Any suggest to fix the issue?
Do you have the other video with the stock motor and pull?
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE thanks that will be my goal
9.4 to 9.1 is a reduction in compression. Did you misspeak?
A 352 would easily out pull that 300 inline 6 with a 2v carb . The 352 wasn't a slouch. The 360 while being limited on HP due to low compression still had significantly more torque then the 300 inline 6
You can fool people who have never driven a 318 but you can’t fool me. You ported the head but used the stock cam.
5:45 A 299 cuin engine does not out pull a 352 cuin engine of the same year.
Can you get a split exhaust manifold for an old 300 six. Our would a split exhaust off a newer 300 six work on older one?
The common split exhaust from fuel injection engines are cheap and easy to find, flow good, and will fit any head.
Get motorcraft filters. They are $1 more than cram at Wally World
Also bud, for future reference you can bore the motor 50 over safely and put 390 flat top pistons in it and bump the compression up to around 10.25:1
Thank you, I have since done a full bottom re-build and considered the 390 piston but instead went with a stock piston, 40 over with a 240 head. Block and head are shaved. My cr is estimated at 9.2:1.
THE67MIGHTYMOUSE sounds like a hell of a motor now bud, when considering another rebuild, go with the 390 flat top pistons, you will be amazed at the difference
damn I want a truck like that with a straight 6
Bohemia Lite hi i dont blame you for wanting one like this. I watched alot of mightymoues video it pushed me over the edge i ended up buying a 79 ford f150 4x4 with a inline 300
How would a Chevy 350 owner feel bout this??I came across one .. now I'm thinking twice. Asking..
How much did it cost to re-build the inline six.?
Too much, I don't remember. Piston for piston it cost more that say an fe block v8. This build was not the best money to power value. You can get a lot more power for the same price if you build a 390, but that's what EVERYONE does!
Cool man thanks.! I have a 78 F100 stepside that as the same motor friends tell me to put a V8 but think I'm gonna stick with inline 300 for now.
Ford calls them "Flareside", not "Stepside."
352 stock?
Yes
You went to the 2100 from the edelbrock 4 barrel? What was the reasoning behind that?
I went to the edlebrock 4 bbl after I built the bottom end. Made a huge difference.
