  • It's never too late to start over. You can spend the next 5 years trying 10 different things for 6-months and still only be 30 at the end of that. No matter how old you are once you get into the mindset that you "wasted" your time doing something, you are going to go on defense which is where the trouble begins. Stay proactive and never you will never feel like you are falling behind.

As a 25 year old guy who’s about to turn 26 next month, this man speaks the truth. You aren’t “behind” in life because somebody else is married or they have a career already. Life isn’t a game. Everyone’s journey is unique. I wished I learned this years ago. I started college at 23 thinking I was behind and still living with my parent. Don’t worry about anyone else.

Something that resonated similarly with me, in a sorta adjacent/similar way, is the line "If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading". Some things seem so self-evident once we look at them simply, but I love how these reminders give us reality checks when we need them.

25 years old was the year I got myself together. I remember being miserable and crying all day on my birthday that year, and deciding that would be the year I turned things around, and I did. I remember not having a job, a car, or a place to live I could call my own and now I have all of those things, and they are nice things. Whenever I'm feeling ungrateful, I need to recount back to those days. I'm 30 now. I have accomplished a lot in 5 years 🙏

Lauren Gray Baby I was 24 when I decided cutting grass for $6/hr, six months out of the year, was not going to work. I decided I need to DO something. I went to a temp agency and asked for a full time engagement; something I could go to, five days a week, like a real job. They placed me with a machine shop, doing a trained monkey’s job. I stick with it. I moved up through the departments until in ended up a toolmaker in the model shop. I’m now 49 and own my own shop. I’m still small, with five machines and only one employee, but I’m following the same path that every other machine shop had to follow.
I was living at home at 26 I moved into an apartment with my future wife, who I married six months later (we dated for a year and a half). I was 27 when we bought our home. We’ve been married for 22+ years, and life is pretty good.
25 is NOT the end of the road.

I’m currently 24yrs old and it took me a while to get to where I am. It took me roughly around 3yrs after I graduated high school to get anywhere in life. Like I would go from interview to interview but nobody wanted to take me in.
Let me tell you, that shit is depressing. Like it gets to you after a while, and it did. It shot my self esteem the hell down and I lost all motivation for everything. There would even be times when I would take weeks off from job hunting simply bc I didn’t want to get my hopes crushed again. However I didn’t give up, and eventually I started working for a small company.
I had one shot and I took it. I stayed there, worked hard and eventually moved my way up in the ladder.
I have a very healthy amount of money on my bank account and I have my own nice car. Don’t give up on yourself.

RUclips seems to recommend these kind of "motivational" videos that appear to be wholesome and well meaning on the surface but simply do not hold up to scrutiny.
Personal responsibility is a good message and all but the way people seem to use this as a catch all for all of life's problems is disturbing, like trying to cure cancer with ibuprofen or Tylenol.
People have real trouble understanding (or simply don't want to believe) that you don't have control over literally EVERY aspect of your life or even most of it. Anyone who has suffered in life understands this on some level. Chances are that your place in life was mostly determined at birth and your ability to move the needle is negligible at best. People that actually "make it" are a statistical anomaly and tend to develop a survivorship bias where "if I can make it anyone can" but the numbers and lived experience of other people just don't back this up.
I think this is mostly an American cultural thing that's used to keep large amounts of people in the economic underclasses. Even typing this I can already feel the responses of "there is no class maaaaan everyone can get it". We know this isn't true the same way that we know multilevel marketing doesn't work because very few can be at the top. There's only so much good fortune to go around. For some reason, when a pyramid scheme gets big enough we just ignore it.
Another dark implication of this worldview is that some people SHOULD be below you and they DESERVE it because they just aren't trying hard enough. And maybe if YOU try you can get there too?
I don't know man, there is just so much to unpack with these kind of videos and the idea that the solution could be something simple makes for a really cute idea, but is not reflected in reality.

One day I decided I had enough and that I saved enough. I started college, and now I live abroad, we're I'm finishing a master degree in aquaculture and fisheries. You can start from 0, but you have to sacrify a lot stuff. And I sacrificed my previous job and partially my independence, my relationships, my love for music, and a lot of spare time.. Up til I was 25, I'd been:
-Arrested for DUI, suspended license, spent the weekend in jail, etc..
-Living in my car, hopping friends house
-Dead-end jobs and drinking every night
-I come from a home where my Dad was an abusive alcoholic who used to beat my Mom
-Parents could not read, write, or speak English
-I dropped out of high school when I was 16; I only had one and a half credits(Gym classes, lol).
-Got into drugs for a couple months but by the grace of God got out before it got worse.
At 27, I decided enough is enough. I enrolled in a junior college and graduated from a university five years later. I have a degree in Mathematics and work in finance. I am happily married, own my home, and have two fur children. I am debt-free, sober, and enjoy a healthy life-style. I look back 10 years ago and would've never thought in a million years I'd be where I am. Long-story short, it is never too late to start. Always put yourself first, rid yourself of people who are not fanning your flames(Will Smith motivational speech), and don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.

The problem with forcing that ‘need to do’ is that you make a poor decision in haste, which really only acts as a salve for the greater issue at hand. That’s how you end up having a midlife crisis.

We also have a daughter with $60,000 scholarship and lives in a dorm and have two sources of her own income and a boyfriend that does to and both is doing what they love and are very happy. . They were raised well. I told my daughter my mistakes and most she didn't do, thank GOD.

I just turned 25 2 days ago and I have been hard on my self. I see everyone I know growing up as a child getting married, having kids, having their career, their dream car buying a house or what ever and I feel like a frickin loser. I struggle a lot recently with looking back at the things I’ve done that I wish I did different and it really messes with you. I always tell my self I should have been somewhere else in my life I’m so far behind and it sucks. It’s so hard to find happiness and how to achieve it. I compare myself a lot to what others have. The one thing I struggle with most with my self is “wow you’re already this age and have nothing going for you then wow it’s really too late to start now just stay where you are. “

So true! @Gary!!!!!! Just try enough "shit"! Never dwell. Keep moving, keep reflecting. Have more patience you will get there! I just turned 25 this year, and finally found a FIT career I see myself long-term doing. I graduated from a top university, and worked in BCG as a management consultant two years ago. Getting in the top consulting firm was already hard, but still when I worked there, I did not feel quite fulfilled. More frankly, though "shiny" from outsiders' view, I felt very lonely and exhausted, feeling kinda being "trapped" in the "fancy match box" life. This has nothing to do with how prestigious our job is/ or how much we gonna make, it is a matter of having enough life and career experience to better position ourselves and better guide ourselves to the end we are trying to reach, meanwhile still enjoying the process. Good luck to all of us! Keep cruising :) No rush. We do have time. And life will reward us with the answer we are struggling to look for as long as we USE HEART!-- given time!

I’m not sure what’s your age and background, and my situation is not a one size fits all answer. Growing up in a low income house hold, I always wanted the better things in life. Starting at a young age of 8, I started understanding the value of money. I collected cans and saved the money until I was 16. By 16,-17 I worked several jobs. By 18 I got a good job at a legal law firm. During all these jobs, I saved and still able to buy nice things. By 24 years old, I purchased property and rented it out. By 29 years old, I bought my second home. As the housing market is doing well , I sold my first home that brought a good return. Having financial literacy was key to my success. Purchasing property was my forte (on my level) as I understood the financial return. After selling my home, and what I have in my savings, I was able to retire young. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to own a Porsche, but I own a older Honda.
