The Bootcamp Where Students Train To Be Pro-Life Foot Soldiers

- The circle of students sat quietly, scribbling down answers to the prompt they’d just been given: “Write down three similarities between the Holocaust and abortion.”
After a minute or two, they launched into discussion. Innocent people were, and are, being killed, they said. The Nazis discriminated against the Jews, just as “the unborn” face discrimination today. Bystanders aren’t doing enough to stand up against injustice.
Sarah Ruiz, the Texas A&M University senior leading the group, added another idea. Sometimes, she said, people who support abortion rights will say they wouldn’t get an abortion but they don’t want to stop anyone else from getting one.
“You can draw parallels ... to slavery, to child abuse, to animal cruelty,” she told her students, as other clusters of students debated the same topic nearby. “‘Well, I wouldn't kill my neighbor. But what you do is up to you. I wouldn't beat my child. But what you do is up to you. I don't like slavery, don’t own a slave.’
“You can plug in literally anything into that.”
As Ruiz spoke, her voice soft and solemn, her pupils nodded along, their faces determined. This was, after all, very serious business: If they could convince someone that abortion in the United States is a holocaust, they might be able to keep them from getting one - and save a life.
Welcome to pro-life boot camp.

@She’s so Lucky Actually, if taken correctly, the pill doesn't fail. Your argument is based on the carelessness of people to either follow instructions correctly and/or have a medical follow up with an ob-gyn to make sure the pill the women is taking isn't having any advert reactions with her biology. This is the same thing with condoms. They rip because they are poorly stored or put on.
It's always better for women to avoid abortions, but pro-lifers and pro-choicers don't want that because that isn't how they earn a living. That's why in the US 1 out of 3 women will have an abortion, and despite all the achievements made with contraception, they strangely don't seem to "work".
Again, so strange, but when women actually go see an ob-gyn they don't have repeated unwanted pregnancies, but if they only listen to Planned Parenthood, or listen to the natural contraception discourse, they just keep getting pregnant.
This whole abortion thing shouldn't be about a woman's bodily rights, but about a woman's right to education, which again, pro-lifers and pro-choicers couldn't care less about. They just defend their income revenus.

I have argued with a guy who used the video where the baby is unrealistically getting "ripped up" and I told him that is highly unrealistic. I told him that in many stories of women getting abortions sometimes you just get a pill/medicine or you do an actual procedure, then a girl who is pro-choice said "You mean Plan-B" and I said no they don't give you just plan b at an abortion clinic. It's sad how people don't have the basic info and try to argue stuff.
I assume you were referring to first trimester abortions when you said they weren't ripped up? It really depends on how far along the infant is in its development and its growth rate. Up to 10 weeks, the pill that causes a forced delivery can be used. The embryo is pushed out through a forced miscarriage. Up to 14 weeks, the embryo might also be removed by suction. In the second and third trimester, drugs can be used to induce labor and drugs might also be injected into the baby's heart to insure death before birth. The most common abortion after 15 weeks is the D&E, and the mother is usually sedated. The cervix is opened, and the infant is removed by forceps and usually dismembered in the process. The uterus is scraped out to be sure all pregnancy tissue is extracted. At 24 weeks and up, the D&E is performed under general anesthesia. The infant is injected to insure that the heartbeat is stopped. The cervix is opened a bit wider, and usually forceps are used to dismember and remove the infant. If an intact removal is to be performed, the legs are pulled out first, and then the skull is crushed to ease intact removal. It is common to dismember infants after a certain point in the pregnancy, which is why the staff then has to count the pieces to make sure all are accounted for and none are left inside the mother. Look into the procedures themselves as to how the killing is done, and under what circumstances the "actual procedures" of partial birth abortion are performed. As well as the separation of parts that are sometimes then sold or donated to science. Fascinating reading.
@@dodieodie498 I appreciate your use of medical terminology for most of your comment. I would like to clarify one of the terms you used. The term “foetus” and not “infant” should be used when referring to an organism pre-birth. Using the term infant implies consciousness and sensory awareness, and is quite disingenuous.
@@veenavinod4236 According to the definition, the word, "infant" is used when "denoting something at an early stage of its development". As it has also been shown that the preborn do respond to stimuli and can even recognize voices, I will continue to use the words that I consider appropriate. As to the question of consciousness, unless we can each return to the womb or somehow trigger recall of that time, we will never know the degree to which consciousness is developed in a preborn infant.

Man I went to planned parenthood to get my birth control removed so I could get pregnant. 🙃
It's very easy to dismantle their arguments:
1. Seeing as the best way to prevent abortion is to prevent pregnancy in the first place, what are three ideas you have to widen access to contraception and comprehensive sexual education? Are you willing to provide birth control for free? How many hours of comprehensive sex ed do you think students should have per semester?
2. As someone who is pro-life, how would you expand public welfare programs to support babies and mothers after birth? How would you ensure these children and their moms do not go hungry? For example, are you willing to drastically expand daycare? Are you willing to provide unwed mothers with a basic income?
3. A fertility clinic is on fire, and time is of the essence. You can save the contents of one room of two. In Room 1: Thousands of frozen embryos. Room 2 is a waiting room with ten patients. Which do you save - the thousands of embryos, or the ten people in the waiting room? (In essence, do you honestly believe embryos are the same as people?)
I've had many arguments with pro-lifers, and using these points has always, always, always backed them into admitting that they believe pregnancy should be punishment for premarital sex, and they really don't care about what happens to the baby and mother after the baby is born. It's shockingly easy to reveal what really matters in the pro-life movement: controlling women and maintaining patriarchy.
Ashleigh Adams I don’t have anything to counter your arguments. Because they are so well put. 👏 And I agree with a lot of the comments saying these kids are a bit brainwashed. When you do ask if they’re in favor of widening access to contraceptives, pro sex ed or willing to expand benefits for unwed mothers and their children, I want to know more of what they say. Or do they shrug and parrot the same talking points because that’s all they know? I’m honestly curious.
1. Sex ed should be comprehensive and thorough. I believe sex ed should also include awareness of how media acts "woke" about sex/love while also wildly marketing it to young teens. I'm not sure birth control should be free, but maybe supported so it's not wildly overpriced. You should have the choice if you wish it
2. Yes I am in support of a UBI, but for all Americans. Short of that I believe Daycare should be wildly expanded along with paternity and maternal leave. Daycare would dramatically help families and I am pro family.
3. I'm not sure how I would save thousands of embryos as I'm not really privy as to how that works and is it even possible to carry them through a fire? In a practical sense I'd save the ten people. It's still a tragedy either way.
None of these points really seem like counter arguements to Pro Life. Like why would I be against expanding sex ed? Or increasing support for new monthers?
@@markheath14 A lot of the same states that have attempted to (or succeeded in) enact laws against abortion are states that have very dismal sex education programs. They are abstinence-only based, and do not educate people on how they can become pregnant or how to prevent it in any reasonable way besides "don't do it". It's unfortunate to see. @@DrMosseeay But a pregnancy is much riskier than an abortion so much more women will die.
Shown in this research:
A research note on the mortality consequence of denying all wanted induced abortions
Abstract
In this research note, I estimate one component of the mortality impact of denying all wanted induced abortions in the U.S. This estimate quantifies the magnitude of an increase in pregnancy-related death which would occur solely due to the greater mortality risk of continuing pregnancy to term compared to having a legal induced abortion. Using published statistics on pregnancy-related mortality ratios, births, and abortions, I estimate U.S. pregnancy-related deaths by race/ethnicity before and in first and subsequent years of a total abortion ban. I estimate deaths after a total abortion ban by assuming all induced abortions are denied, assuming each abortion denied averts 0.8 births, and increasing exposure to pregnancy-related mortality accordingly. I find that in the first year of ban, estimated pregnancy-related deaths would increase from 675 to 724 (49 additional deaths, 7% increase), and in subsequent years to 815 (140 additional deaths, 21% increase). Non-Hispanic Black women would experience the greatest increase in deaths (33% increase in subsequent years). Estimated pregnancy-related deaths would increase for all race/ethnicities examined. Denying all wanted induced abortions in US would increase pregnancy-related mortality substantially, even if unsafe abortion does not increase.
Or this:
The influence of abortion legislation on maternal mortality
Abstract
Worldwide some 20 million unsafe abortions take place each year and account for approximately 13% of all maternal mortality and serious complications associated with it, such as sepsis, hemorrhage and trauma. Only a quarter of all women in the world do not have any access to legal abortion, whereas 40% have a legal right to decide for themselves. This liberalization of abortion legislation has seen a tremendous drop in abortion-related maternal mortality. Death from unsafe abortions are almost unknown in countries where abortion is available on request. Reduction of the need for induced abortion through the provision of good family planning services should be an integral part of healthcare. Consistent use of contraception greatly reduces the need for abortion, but it cannot completely eliminate this need. Thus, it is essential that safe medical abortion services should be made available to all women in the world in cases of contraceptive failure.
Commentary: the public health consequences of restricted induced abortion--lessons from Romania.
Abstract:
The question of whether abortion should be legal is currently being decided in many countries. Although much of the discussion has focused on ethical issues, the public health consequences should not be overlooked and should be addressed realistically and responsibly. Nowhere are the public health manifestations of restricted abortion more apparent than in Romania. The pronatalist policies of the Ceaucescu regime resulted in the highest maternal mortality rate in Europe (approximately 150 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births) and in thousands of unwanted children in institutions.
@@DrMosseeay I think it is not a question if these cells/fetus/baby is a human being or not. I think the question is weather the government should force someone to use their body to help someone else stay alive. There is no other situation where the government has this power - for example in my country I can decide weather I want to be an organ donor after death or not, I can decide weather I deny people my DEAD body so they die. There is no law forcing me to use my DEAD body to help someone else stay alive. But somehow … women don’t have this autonomy over their body while STILL ALIVE.
@@DrMosseeay Dude, most people don't have babies nowadays, not because of the abortion, but because they literally can't support a child. 11:06 the kid said "fetus and embryo in latin and greek literally mean child" and OH BOY was I ready for this. Fetus in Latin has, like most Latin words, more meanings than one: as a noun, (fetus, fetus) it means childbirth; as an adjective (fetus, feta, fetum) it means pregnant; as a verb (feto, fears, fetare) it means giving birth and/or impregnate. In Ancient Greek, different from Modern
Greek, embryo (έμβρυοv,
έμβρυου) literally means both newborn and FETUS, and also lamb. The word έμβρυο is also used as a prefix to build words, verbs nouns and adjectives, that are about a FETUS. It literally refers to an UNBORN CHILD. The romans and ancient greeks didn't have enough medical knowledge to know the different stages of a pregnancy and how the baby goes from conception to newborn, so the words fetus and embryo, which are two different things used modernly, referred to the child in the womb at any stage, even AFTER the first nine weeks, after which abortions are only allowed in critical conditions and are very rare. Next time you try to use languages to enforce your ideas, fact check, please.
Eyyyy language nerds in the hoouuuse, that was an amazing linguistic smackdown, you have my respect
PERIODT sis
Go off sis, go off
The stages and name changes are arbitrary. Romans/Greeks not having medical knowledge of development has nothing to do with it. The stages are there in order to define some milestones perhaps, but the process of development is fluid in the womb and continues out of the womb. The human continues to develop throughout the entirety of their life.
"Feutus' in Modern Greek would actually translate as 'vegetable' (as in 'comatose').
Once religion was brought into this, they lost. That isn’t critical thinking.

it can be critical thinking. If religion is the base and foundation of pro-life argument. That doesn't invalidate it. Of course any one can disagree. I hate when pro-life skirt around religion when it is a direct religious idea that is intended to force religious oppression on both the unborn and impregnated. Yes, give the unborn child a chance to live, is still a form of oppression that the mother and child has to deal with.

It was interesting where they're having lunch and the reporter asked "Are you being trained to argue and debate or to be critically thinking about the issue?" they were all speechless, then the handler who was off camera answers him in a deflective manner. It reminded me of documentaries of people going to North Korea and trying to ask questions to everyday people, then being interrupted by their official North Korean guide.
😂😂😂
I'd love to see how these same people would react to vaccines and masks now. Especially when the young woman commented she was in favor of anything that can save lives.
I went through something like this with Students for Life of America. I left with more questions than answers. When I did research I ended up leaning closer to pro choice than pro life.
I don't understand why they use the Holy Bible to stop abortion because Lord Christ kills thousands of unborn babies in Noah flood. Lord Christ don't have problem killing unborn baby why do you have a problem.
It's funny how people have to be, 'trained' to argue their own opinions.
You're right, we should probably get rid of all communications departments at every university since they serve no purpose.
All communication is learned. If you aren’t assertive I highly recommend learning to argue your own opinions.
Ya, let's get rid of speech and debate in high school. Or how about education all together. All of education is about learning and being firm in your positions and knowledge. What a tragic comment.
If you don't think that much of going to a university is subtle or not so subtle training for a particular set of beliefs, then I believe you might be somewhat naive.
when i want to get my point across, i cant just say " because thats what i want" or " it just sounds right to me" you have to learn how to help people understand you. its not always for good ideals, but they are good just for being someone with an opinion you think is important.
I love the eye roll he gives when the woman stops the kids from answering.
They have an agenda. And it’s political and religious agenda that doesn’t want intellectually honest inquiry into a nuanced topic.
I am a Muslim and I am also pro life. I also understand that having a child is expensive and it sometimes limits what young people can do with their lives. If you are really pro life then you should have a system that helps young people who are having kids and help them take care of those kids through a National health system. If you are pro life then pro life should be from the cradle to the grave.
Having a child for some woman would kill them, do you think forcing woman to live the last 9 monthes of their lifes sick and in pain is justifyable when the baby may die as well?
Do you think people should be forced to be organ donors after they die? If no, then you allow the government to force women to use their body to help someone else (the fetus) to stay alive but you would simultaneously say that everyone else has more bodily autonomy over their DEAD body than a women who is STILL ALIVE.

@@rachelrobbins1409 it’s a medical procedure. Use that energy to take care of babies after they are born instead. I don’t see pro lifers fighting for gun control or to make sure kids in the US get to eat everyday, provide affordable daycare, or make sure medical bills are paid.
Maybe you could tell them to make sure the kids wear mask to school during a pandemic, make sure that those over 12 and the parents get vaccination so they don’t harm the children you pretend to care about.
Better, why don’t you do a camp about becoming foster parents to all those babies.
@@rachelrobbins1409 an abortion is a medical procedure which cares for the wellbeing of the unwilling carrier of an embryo. I say embryo because I do not believe it is a living and conscious human so therefore not a baby. This is because everyone thinks of what life is differently so most scientists won't want to approach it because it does not have objective measures. Some women, quite a few women die in childbirth, and someone shouldn’t a forced to carry their pregnancy to term if they aren’t willing to take that risk.
Pregnancy can also seriously change your body and how it functions, potentially damaging it.
And finally, people are gonna get abortions, whether because of extreme circumstances (sexual assault, incest, etc) or just because they did an oopsie and aren’t ready for a child (eg. Teenagers or people in bad financial situations) people are gonna get them whether legal or not- women have died from illegal abortions performed by inexperienced people- so isn’t it better to regulate it?

I understand that people can be pro life, but to focus on the “pre-born” instead of focusing on the billions of already born seems so ridiculous. What about the children in the foster care system? Who is advocating for a better life for them? What about the cost of pregnancy and hospital births and the several complications that pregnancy entails? The loss of wages, the public shame, these people do not understand the other side and it hurts their cause.
Unfortunately, its mostly because "pro life" people view the baby as a punishment for the mother having unprotected sex.
Exactly they constantly fight for the rights of unborn kids not the ones that were born and are unwanted. They need to give all the fund from this for foster care!!
The "pro-life" movement is about keeping women in their place by burdening them with childcare and (for some) repopulating this country with white babies.
The people directing and funding these right-wing movements are the worst kind of cynical.
Exactly. An abortion isn’t an easy decision. Most people don’t have them because the baby is an “inconvenience”. They have it because they live in an abusive house where the baby would be abused, they can’t afford to raise the baby, they or their baby would have severe deficits that could ruin their life or the baby would die or kill the mother during childbirth. The privilege of these kids presuming people just don’t want to have a baby is horrifying

Anything that a patient receives is considered a "service", such as checking in, getting a pre-abortion scan etc. This statistic is very misleading, as even if the main purpose of the appointment is going to receive an abortion, they will still receive many other "services". 1 divided by 0.2 is 0.2.
@@DrMosseeay ok, and? Just let women go to the PP's, it doesn't affect you
@@spicynoodles2742 I mean, Mrs. Rick next door torturing her dogs in her backyard isn’t concearning me. It’s her backyard, her choice
@@DrMosseeay I love how pro-lifers always use examples that have nothing to do with it, but ok. Be pro-life what you want, but at least use comparisons that make sense. Also, once the baby is born, it's not like you're going to support the mother or the baby in any way, is it? You're just going to let both of them be miserable.
@@spicynoodles2742 I mean, the comparison has its similarities. 1. As you said it’s “none of my concern”. 2. A specific boundary is used to discern the right of someone to do something terrible, aka a backyard mimics the idea of a body. 3. Despite the suffering of the dogs, it can be excused as “oh it’s just dogs”. And this is your average “oh, your only pro-birth” argument. If I believe a group of people are being murdered, why should I focus on aiding another? That’s akin to saying “why are you focused on the people who are enslaved, it’s not like your going to give them aid once they achieve their freedom from their masters”. Also, I the term “pro-life” is loaded, as it indicates people who are against it are pro-death, so just call people against abortion anti-abortion.
I get being uncomf with abortion. Hell, my personal issues with it give me much pause. But even though I am uncomf with it, I know that I as a cis man will never have to make that decision, and that other peoples bodies are not something I have the right to police. These mofos do not understand that the choice to have a termination is one of the hardest decisions a person will have to make, and rather than offering financial, emotional, and caregiving aid to people who may be considering a termination in order to prevent them, all they do is preach.
Its fucking ridiculous.
Making abortions illegal will just put more desperate people in danger via unsafe, unregulated black market abortions more in demand. They don't care about the child after it is born. Its disgraceful.
That one kid: “I want to be on the right side of history.”
Also that one kid: *affiliates self with an organization whose primary goal is to take away women’s rights to bodily autonomy*
I wonder how many of these kids are willing to adopt or support sex ed being taught in schools. 🤔
I wonder how many of these kids are pro-choice when it is them or people like them. pro-lifers always seem to change their tune when people like want one since 'they really need it, unlike those sluts!'
I would venture to say ALL support adoption and sex Ed classes. As a pro life person myself, I would love to adopt a child or two when I’m able. They should make it more affordable to adopt, then more people would I am sure.
Lydia Scott agreed!

First, women will NEVER STOP HAVING ABORTIONS. Legal or illegal. Second, I'm tired of being told what I can do due to other people's religious faith. Which by definition means something that can not be proven. I will never live my life under the thumb of someone's fake morality.
These children are being abused by this group.
19:54 his expression says it all, my man!
Being pro life is like a pet project for people of privilege who want to protest something and then go home to their comfy and safe homes. They want to feel good not do good.
Well said. Right choices don't always feel good, but they don't make them any less right. I feel like these people just don't get it that all women can't afford several kids, and by having another kid they are risking the future of the kids they already have.
Like i take birth control and i do a lot to make sure i don't get pregnant. If I have concerns I test or take plan b. And who knows, maybe i have conceived but the embryo failed, that happens enough.
But what I know in my bones, is the terror i felt at the prospect of waiting on those tests, if they came back positive. I would definitely abort the child. I do not have the desire to raise children, I think if you are a parent you have so much responsibility to the child. That's my biggest thing, if you have a child it's because you are committed to that child, people say they want a family, they love babies, etc, but to me, children are about commitment, a high level of responsibility. I have to raise my child well and consider their needs first.
SO what if i don't or can't meet their needs? Then I best never let them suffer.
It is a child you made, you forced to exist that you are committed to no matter what, I meet so many parents who don't really practice that. I saw my friends being raised in broken homes, in the foster systems. I have seen how awful it is to be an unwanted child.
So ultimately, I have a responsibility to that child to make sure they don't have an unloving parent and aren't abandoned to this careless world. I know I would be a cold mother, I know i don't want to be a mother, and i know that being in a broken family is terrible.
Yes! Let's just assume they're are all privileged and don't actually have motives to be part of this cause.
Love how these kids who obviously seem to come from Christian upper to middle class families are against abortions when others don’t even have the money to give birth at an American hospital

You only saved an embryo from abortion not an unwanted child from a miserable life!
How about they talk about how to help expecting mothers? How to help reform the foster care system? How to educate expecting mothers about adoption? How to help them with finances and access to affordable prenatal care? You can’t just argue that you don’t want a child to be aborted but do nothing to help said a child or said family. All you’re doing is yelling at people outside with Planned Parenthood… Which does a lot more than abortions… How are you actually helping anyone?
I would also really love to hear this “science“ that tells us at the life is born at conception.
I mean, let's focus on the people getting murdered before we focus on the people who are starving. Arguably one of the most fundamental philosophical points.
@@DrMosseeay You mean you would rather focus on a bunch of cells, without brain activity than on children who are starving, or have no access to education, or who are in an abusive home, but are safe because they are alive, even if they live in misery?
@@spicynoodles2742 Quite a loaded question, but the answer is yes, I’d prefer to save a “clump if cells” before I give aid to a “clumpier clump of cells”.
@@DrMosseeay So it doesn't matter so much to you that there are children starving or abused, as just a fetus that hasn't even finidh formed? How good that you are pro-life
