Great video. Nice to see so many 727's (will alwaysl be my favorite plane) and the Mad Dogs that were the backbone of every major airline's fleets in those days. That time was just about the end of being treated like a human being when you flew.
Interesting! Nice vid! At 1:10 you can see the small plane taking off and getting away from the turbulence generated by the 727 that had just taken off.
I spent 7 years flying the 72. It was a great airplane! It took a while to figure out the landing tricks (unforgiving) but once you broke the code it was great. The 727 was a remarkably fast jet, not due to its power (lacking by modern transport standards) but due to its thin swept back wing. It featured the most advanced hi-lift innovations of the day. I had fun flying and watching it and I still miss seeing it.
Fort Lauderdale resident here sending you a big THANK YOU for sharing this. FLL also had a great "corrosion" corner, lot's old propliner action going on till the early 90s. I moved here in 1996 and there were still lots of 727s, I believe commercial service ceased around 2002. L-1011s were also a common site here. In contrast, the FLL of today is offers no variety, even GA is virtually dead at FLL.
Richard Hodge that's what happens when everything is corporate and green. The bits of the old American spirit are sold off for a profit and cheaper European garbage gets brought in.
Ryan, thanks for the footage. Reminds me of the mid to late 70's. the three holers were all to common. Plenty of 1-11's and plenty of L-1011's. Remember the Fed-X Falcon 20's on their usual run in the late evenings, but most of all the Mackey Convairs and DC-6's. Plenty of Southern, Delta and Eastern DC-9's back then. Several of the Canadian Charters were still flying the Electras. Bird watching sure isn't what it use to be. Thanks again...
Now this is what you call aviation! Just listen to those sounds! The 727 era, my all time favorite aircraft. I admired seeing AA’s chrome 727s at MIA and GCM back in the 1990s.
The good old days when the roar of three JT8-D'S was a constant soundtrack to my childhood. I grew up directly under the ILS approach inside the outer marker of runway 13. You heard everything at my house. From Taxi runs to spool ups and Takeoffs. When the dolphins played at the Orange Bowl the Goodyear blimp flew right over my street at about 100 meters on the way from pompano down to Miami. We used to spend hours watching the air traffic.
Great video. Especially the shot of the corporate BAC 1-11 landing. I’m partial to the 1-11 as I flew a corporate 1-11 for a few years. Both the 1-11’s and myself are retired now.
Good ol' FLL. Born and raised in the area, spent many afternoons there with my dad as a kid at the viewing area of the old 9L (now 10L). Hated living in Florida, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss my hometown airport.
+Marcelo Delima I just hated the people, the traffic, the heat and humidity, the lack of outdoor activities. I hated that I had to drive 12 hours to get to anything resembling mountains. No seasons, I hated Miami, I hated the whole state. Colorado is much more my speed.
Yes Miami can have some traffic, but nothing like NYC, i like the humidity more than the dryness, but thats my physiology , there a plenty of outdoors activities, but i agree no hiking or mountain climbing... good thing US is a big country right...
If I wanted to go to this spot today with a video camera they wouldn't let me? Great video by the way. I remember FLL back to the 70's. People started using it more instead of MIA as more folks moved to Broward County and it was way less congested.
Lived in Ft. Lauderdale until 1976. That same spot is where my dad would take the family on Sunday afternoons to watch the arrivals and departures. #GreatMemories
Man.... the good old days before 9/11 when if you were caught on the airfield for a closer shot you were asked to please get off the premises with a strong verbal warning. Today .... you would straight shut down the entire airport and make every news station around the world and face federal prison time.
IMHO the bird brains from America West that took over American had no appreciation for the traditional American Art Deco eagle that was placed between the two block A’s. It was the most easily recognizable airline logo in the sky and when combined with the bare aluminum skin and heavy three color cheat line, the fleet had class . The current fleet has the splashy flag tail ala British Air style, which pales badly when compared to block A’s and eagle. The 727 and it’s 757 offspring were the last mainline airliners to give you that great feeling of being pinned to the back of your seat. “Once you broke the code” Amen to that, pilots were putting the 727s short of the runway, 5-6 in the first year of operation alone.
I flew to london, England my sophomore year in high school this same year. It was with British Airways. I think it was a 747 but can't remember if it was ft lauderdale or miami we flew out of.
BA did not open service to FLL until July 2017. I remember flying into MIA from LGW on a BA 747 Classic back in April 1997 . BA has been flying out of MIA since at least the '60s, when the airline was known as BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation).
Great video. Nice to see so many 727's (will alwaysl be my favorite plane) and the Mad Dogs that were the backbone of every major airline's fleets in those days. That time was just about the end of being treated like a human being when you flew.
You forget how loud airports were back then lol. Even just taxing they were so loud. Ya I kinda miss it lol
Interesting! Nice vid! At 1:10 you can see the small plane taking off and getting away from the turbulence generated by the 727 that had just taken off.
That wake turbulence is no joke
Wow a BAC 1-11 that's like seeing a California Condor.
Wayyyy!!!!! Rare.
everytime I see these B727s it tugs at me...my favorite flying jet, it is still a timeless design!

true! I have over 11000 hrs in it, miss the crap out of it
SO MANY 727s!!! AHHHH!!! Love it.
Ahh, the year I got married, living in Fort Lauderdale and being at the end of 9L back in 1991 watching all those lovely 727's! thanks for the vid
How I MISS those THREE HOLERS (Boeing 727) what a SUPERB airplane.
Wow this brings back memories of going there in 88-95 plane spotting from that exact location. Thank you for a great video

i went BOS. ORD PHX on a TWA 727. The seats seemed nicer then. Didn't seem so crammed. The whole flying experience was really enjoyable back then.
Very good video, congratulations!
Man that brings back a lot of memories there

brilliant video

Oh that beautiful exhaust! Miss flying my 727!

The BAC 1-11 is what made the video awesome! I love it
What operator was this?
@@pjotrtje0NL This was the official, original painting of BAC 111 - maybe it belonged to a company, not an airline
This takes me back a day or two Ryan :) Thank you for this :) Right into my AVIATION playlist. ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Boy, Do I miss TWA.

I live near Orlando I hate Flordia
+Kyle Beamsderfer Why did you hate living in Florida? just asking!

The supermarkets are good in Florida.
So are the hookers.
great view on the past thanks for sharing
I have seen too few 727s in real life. That’s for sure. Luckily, your videos help me see them often!
That is too kind of you! Thank you for the great comment!
@@RyanBomar lots of 727's 30 years ago. my dad was a P&W rep for 30 years and the 727 was his favorite jet.
Wow, great footage! The sound of that 1-11 was fantastic!
mytmousemalibu
Upgraded engines.

Still love and miss the 727!❤
Awesome, thank you!

It was nice to see the PanAm 727.. B727's back in the day truly ruled!!!
Yeah 🤘🤘 I used to land at Ft Lauderdale and keep my jet at Combs Gate.
Nice Dude's !!!!!
Her call signs were YV-123-CP Charlie Papa.
My hometown airport. Such a difference now.
Nice !
Lots of juicy 727s n 737s with those Sweet n Smokey JT8Ds
Lol, it sure did! I think that's why they had him cut to the left so fast to get of the 722's wake turbulence.
Ah the wonderful 727.
Twas ever a sexier plane to reach the skies?
All women are beautiful... but some are beautifuler than others. :)
not only did TWAs look the best,, They sounded the strongest too :)
sal economos
Never since the 727
This must have been right after Frank Lorenzo & Texas Air Corp bought Eastern?
TWA 727 took me to Navy boot camp in 1999!
i remeber eastern dc-8's!
Miss the 727s.
How could you miss ATA Airlines? We had regular schedule flights to FLL.
Back when jets made so much more white noise!

Jesus Christ, that King Air sure took off fast right behing the TWA727!

No chance of catching up to it, so why not?
Surprised not seeing any L1011's
I flew to london, England my sophomore year in high school this same year. It was with British Airways. I think it was a 747 but can't remember if it was ft lauderdale or miami we flew out of.
Dana Steele Probably Miami since BA didn't go to FLL at the time.
Dana Steele it was miami because BA doesnt serve FLL and they dont recieve 747s, only on special or rare occasions
The Super Spaceman Yeah it was quite the trip. Thanks for the reply.

Ya don't say.
What fuel were using back then, they all put out some horrible smoke
I think the BAC-111 was owned by Wayne Huyzinga (mispelled)
The Sweet n Smokey JT8Ds
The only other 1-11 I've seen was at BWI earlier this year and it is owned by Northrop Grumman.
Whoever gave thumbs down have no balls. Go drink a pumpkin spice latte.
I love 727s
Do you have any classic Orlando footage, by chance?
I notised that 89% of the plains that was either takin off or landin was MD727s..It was a poplar aerplane in the day
No Winglets!
The 727. Over 1200.built. sucess!
Why did they stop making the 727's?
crashingtubelights they were old, the JT8Ds were noisy even with hush kits. Other reasons too
crashingtubelights
They started making 757s.
crashingtubelights
757=crap
60s technology.
You can't put high bypass engines on a 727
FLL now is completely different im like 2 miles away
727 heaven
