To the person who said that was the worst game Verne ever called, trust me there are a lot of announcers who wish their best was as good as Verne’s worst. Verne is one of the best to ever do this, period.
Chase Coats Verne, the original college football final, damn it won't be the same at all. I miss Reese, mark may, & Lou. But Verne will be missed the most.
Over the 17 years Uncle Verne has been the voice of the SEC on CBS, he has had two studio hosts in Tim Brando (now with FOX) and Adam Zucker, two color analysts in Todd Blackledge and Gary Danielson and three beautiful and lovely sideline reporters in Jill Arrington (aunt of actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning, mother of daughter Presley Kate and longtime friend of LA-based TV and radio personality Leila Feinstein), Tracy Wolfson (now the lead reporter for the NFL on CBS and NCAA March Madness and the co-host and co-creator of We Need to Talk) and Tracy's protege and good friend Allie LaForce (current lead reporter for the SEC on CBS and co-lead reporter for NCAA March Madness and co-host/co-creator of We Need to Talk with Wolfson).
Now, just as Verne Lundquist replaced Sean McDonough as the voice of CBS College Football (McDonough is currently the voice of ESPN Monday Night Football), former ESPN/ABC announcer Brad Nessler will fill Uncle Verne's shoes, and, hopefully, last 17 years or more or even less than that. Gary Danielson will remain on the SEC on CBS, and Olivia Harlan will likely replace Allie LaForce in September when Allie becomes a member of the NFL on CBS' #2 broadcast team.
Agreed. As a kid watching college football it was him on the cbs game, Keith Jackson on abc and and Brent Musburger in the evening. 3 distinct voices that defined my childhood saturdays
It was great growing up and being able to turn on ABC and hear Keith Jackson's familiar voice or CBS and hear Verne Lundquist's familiar voice. The world of sports commentary is vast and full of talent, but those two will go down in the history books as special and almost as much a part of the games they called as the players, coaches, and tens of thousands of fans inside the stadium. Best wishes to Verne.
I watched this, I can't help but cry. I met Verne 28 years ago when he called an NFL pre season football game 49ers vs Chargers in San Francisco. He was very nice and down to earth. Verne is a great broadcaster. One of the very best. Like Verne would say "Yes Sir!"
I miss Verne Lundquist, I never thought I'd say that. Verne not only has done college football, he's done college basketball, NBA basketball, the Masters as he pointed out.
Nothing like hearing “whoaaaaa nellyyyy!!” “You are looking live!!!” And “how do you do?!?!” All three give me chills. I wish I had the privilege to know those guys personally. Guys like them are the ones that make me wanna have a career talking sports. :,)
@@dawsondudarkAgreed, I can remember hearing Brent Musberger utter those words...You are looking live... at the beginning of each NFL Today show back in the 70s and early 80s. It seemed like such a big moment for a kid about to watch the NFL game of the week.
I'd say he's up there with Keith Jackson for commentating college football. Those voices in the booth are part of the nostalgia. Looking back remembering the great plays the great games and the great calls from the booth's
Gonna miss Uncle Verne but excited for Brad Nessler as well. I wish Todd Blackledge could be calling the CBS games along with Mr. Nessler; they make a great team! Go Dawgs!
Vernes in a category with Keith Jackson , Bob Griece, John Madden . I will miss him always enjoyed hearing him. Darn it I started tearing up too...........
I remember when he was the sports anchor at WFAA in Dallas back in the early 70s. He was great then, just as he is now. Thank you Verne, for all the memories.
I remember Mr. Lundquist way back when he was the sports announcer for Channel 8 in Dallas. What an incredible and diverse career he has had. You are missed.
Keith Jackson and Verne Lundquist are the co-voices of god when it comes to college football....i love these guys and will always be grateful for them!
Verne you are and always will be the greatest sports announcer of all time and you are missed greatly in the sec. You were the voice of my childhood since I was born in 2003 and you are still my favorite sports announcer and the sec isn't the same without you buddy. Seeing you cry makes me cry. You will be missed verne (just to clarify he's not dead I'm saying he's retired).
I will truly miss him! He was my second fav sports broadcaster of all time only second to the late great (The Voice of College football) Keith Jackson! Thank u Verne for great calls wit that unique voice through the years of me being a sports fanatic
It isn't until this week where we truly feel Verne's absence. College is kicking off and he isn't in the booth. Enjoy retirement Verne, it was great listening to you over the years.
Verne truly loves the game. He called the Carquest bowl in 94 which is now the Outback bowl when I was coaching at USC. Consummate pro and loved being around him. Miss his voice on Saturday....
Well, being an alumni of the University of Texas, I didn't get to hear Verne too much. But he was impossible to miss on CBS and in the SEC. I call games for a JR. College. If I am one TENTH as good, it will be a great career. I grew up in Dallas and remember WFAA-TV. Thanks, Verne. You belong up there with Uecker, Caray. and Brickhouse. Not to mention, Keith Jackson.
I remember my first game I watched Verne it was the ole miss LSU game years ago little did I know he’d be one of my favorite announcer I hardly knew what an announcer was then so long verne
To the person who said that was the worst game Verne ever called, trust me there are a lot of announcers who wish their best was as good as Verne’s worst. Verne is one of the best to ever do this, period.
Lmao he sucked. Can't wait for Gary to retire too.
Yeah Keith Jackson is one who comes to my mind on being one of the worst
@@bradleycarroll8187Welcome to the Grand Daddy of them all!!!
You're right, although, it had gotten to the point in which his memory and reaction time had become noticeably affected.
@knoxvillepredatorcatcher3459 you're a moron.
college football will never be the same w/out his voice commentating. you'll be missed verne!! enjoy retirement.
Chase Coats Verne, the original college football final, damn it won't be the same at all. I miss Reese, mark may, & Lou. But Verne will be missed the most.
That man could call a game and he was all class. Enjoy your retirement
Chase Coats for real!
That's your opinion..
Brad Nessler is your daddy..!
Now the SEC will not be on CBS anymore.
I'm gonna miss hearing Verne on CBS every Saturday
As a Navy Fan I Agree!
As a Nevada wolf pack fan it’s gonna be strange
As a die hard crash bandicoot fan it will be mere survival at this point on.
@@jsm530 wtf 😂😂

WHO. THE. HELL. IS. HAPPY. GILMORE?
God bless ya, Verne. Thanks for the memories.
Jonathan Ellis just thought about that 😂😂😂
Oh my god that was VERNE
I just watched that last night I knew I recognized the guy lol
I'm happy Gilmore!
Are you dumb
He was a solid, professional announcer. Well done, sir.

Verne=legend
His voice IS college football
Agreed. As a kid watching college football it was him on the cbs game, Keith Jackson on abc and and Brent Musburger in the evening. 3 distinct voices that defined my childhood saturdays
It will never be the same
Yea it'll be so much better.
0:03 "Vern that was the worst game you've ever called"
"we've got some mischief makers just behind us"
"i saw my first cfb game in september of 1950 toe"
That disrespectful punk!!
Peter it was a joke I think
Ahahaha
THAT WAS FUNNY. SO WAS HIS STORY ABOUT 19 FIFTY TOE
Heckler at the beginning: "Verne, that's the worst game you ever called!", but all jokes aside, the game will never be the same. Lots of love Verne❤
Verne and Gary on a Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in the fall…the pinnacle of college football.

J Florence yup, sec afternoon game on CBS was always the best no matter who was playing, hopefully it won't feel much different this season

One of the classiest and most exciting play by play announcers ever
I miss Verne Lundquist, I never thought I'd say that. Verne not only has done college football, he's done college basketball, NBA basketball, the Masters as he pointed out.
He had such a warm voice, I always loved hearing him announce games.

That generation of sports announcers will never be touched. Their voices defined the medium that brought us so many amazing moments.

I know Brad Nessler's a great replacement... but there was something about Verne Lundquist that makes him just a bit better.
I remember hearing him in Happy Gilmore when I was a kid. Then college games as I got older and this man is the 🐐 in the announcer booth.
This is making me cry.
