One of his greatest quotes ever, pre-game LSU vs. Alabama 2011. "Those of us who love this sport live for nights like this." "On a night like this, stars are SUPPOSED to shine. We've got a galaxy from which to choose."
Verne did an interview during Masters week that the original tech direction called for a wide shot of the shot. Cameraman went with his gut, zoomed in, and the rest is history.
@@andysorensen1737 The director had also called for a switch to the shot of Tiger sooner but the technical director went against that order and stayed with the ball. The way the entire moment was seen would be completely different.

Hard to find a more versatile voice than Verne. College football, NFL, college basketball and golf. His voice and his passion in some of the biggest moments add to the greatness of the event. He knew what all great announcers should know, when to speak and when to say nothing. After the Laettner buzzer beater, he screams Yes! and lets the moment play out for over a minute. Too many get tempted to keep talking, but silence is golden after such an epic moment.
