Both units have identical firing statistics.
Scots are only line infantry that can use Platoon firing (Superior Line Infantry are elite unit actually).

The sad thing is that fire by ranks were almost never used in real battles
Fire by rank would be ineffective due to smoke from black powder blocking everyone's vision. By the time smokeless powder became common, every army was using bolt-action repeating rifles that made line formations completely obsolete.
@@imgvillasrc1608 all firing after the first volley would be blind whether you did it by rank or not. Maybe if you had the right wind conditions or some other circumstance like that. But I’m fairly certain that pure volume of fire was what those armies were aiming for. Specifically Prussia (not in game, in reality).
Fire by rank where each ranks takes a knee after each shot is not effective because dudes are gonna get tired from doing luonges and mistakes can happen when constantly changing the formation (like maybe someone stands up before the rank behind them shoots) the way it was actually done was that the first or first 2 ranks would take a knee with the guy behind taking a knee just closer and off center to the side of the firing arm of the man in front of him and the 2 standing ranks behind them would do the same thing now you have essentially 4 ranks that can have positive target ID and fire by rank without having to do lounges and hoping everyone knows when and when not to stand up cuz battle is chaotic and people get easily confused in high stressed environments so best to keep formations and movements simple

Sarcasm aside, "fire by ranks" also known as "Fire by Volley " was employed continuously throughout History from the beginning of small arms and all over the World ...
One issue, the UK line infantry by default have 30 reload speed.
Oh, it was my mistake... However, the Scots with 25 reloading speed still won the battle.
Platoon Firing > Rank Firing
How is it, when you stack the Scots deeper?
Like 4 or 5 lines?
Will they perform better, because the fire quicker or will they suffer from more casualties and loose?

By ranks I agree. No more than 3 Ranks. But by platoon I don't. Since I only play the short campaign (that ends after 50 years) I don't use Elite Infantry that much but I could swear I saw them shooting with 5 ranks. Only had like 3 battles or so with them so I'm not 100% sure.
Maybe I'll try it on my own tomorrow before work 🤔

@@imerlih We are both kinda right: I stacked the Scots 5 Lines deep and only the first 3 Lines started shooting. But when some soldiers fell, the soldiers behind them started shooting, too.
When one soldier from the first three lines fell, the soldier in the 4th row started shooting and when 2 soldiers fell the guy from the 5th row started.
Although that was very interesting, the battle result was even more interesting: With 5 lines deep, the Scots burned all their Ammo and went from 160 men down to some 30. With their last bullets the English started routing and ran away with also some 30 men left.
So they took more casualties and also dealt more damage.
Will try some more things tomorrow 😁
The best fire by rank unit is superior line infantry. Maybe try against them?

i just did the same setup and my platoon scots got absolutely wiped out by the line infantry, not even close

@@TotalWar1vs1 nah. was using hardest AI if i remember correctly, maybe that matters
