Hello, My question is regarding the gt1000 core but could be the same for all the gt line. I love the gt1000 core, but I also use a chain of boss pedals (my original setup) that I love as well and dont want to lose. One of the main differences being, I dont need an amp for the gt 1000 core. I just run to FOH. Is there a way to feed my pedal chain (5 boss pedals including a special wah pedal) into the gt core, without coloring the chain in any way, until I need to? Not sure how I need to do this. Should I use them inline, into a clean patch? Should I use the pedals in effects loops? I am just unsure how to use my old setup through the GT. I was thinking maybe running my wah pedal, in (1) effects loop, and the other pedals in through the (2) effects loop, or should I run all directly to input of gt1000 via some unprocessed (Clean) patch. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated!
Does anybody know who to turn off the amp modelling/cab simulation and use the Boss GT1000 Core as just another guitar effects pedal - I do not want to color my sound going into a guitar amp that.I am happy with.
@@charlesford8692 it has some of the same algorithms but not all. As well as not having every parameter that is available in the 500 series pedals. To be fair, the boss gt1000 and core has much less processing power than L6 helix to begin with so it is easier to condense into a smaller form factor. My helix floor has a dual amp+cab 32 FX block preset/patch. Also to be fair the simultaneous 24 effects are locked to an FX type... i.e.5 locked delay blocks of which only 1 is more than the 1 simple delay. 4 eqs locked blocks. 2 noise suppressors which hx stomp has in the input outside the 6 blocks which will soon be updated to 8 in the next firmware. A volume and wah block !locked in so another 2 gone. L6 has volume as a block but it can also be set as a parameter assign to the exp so again it doesn't interfere with the number of blocks. Lastly 2 locked to amp blocks and some people have these units to use through a backline amp for a gig be sure let's face it, most small venues have you use your amp as your monitor/foldback to keep the PA wedges free for clear vocal monitoring (except for big gigs). In terms of flexibility and power, the HX stomp, the main competitor, it's 6 flexible blocks with noise gate and volume exp assignable outside these 6 and soon it will be 8 (not saying better just saying they are flexible and it may suite more people) vs 20 of 24 locked blocks most being multiples of the same simple block so 3 flexible, and the rest listed are locked to the type 5 delay locked, 2 noise suppressor, 4 eqs, 1 volume ,1 locked expression FX, ,2 amps, 1 locked compressor, 2 distortion, 1chorus, 1 reverb and 1 looper. So if I used each of these types I could have 9 locked (I've excluded volume and the looper) to an FX type and 3 flexible FX. That's still 12 which is more than the main competitor HX Stomp which is 6 (soon 8), but I rarely use EQ, chorus (I use other modulations so that's the flexible FX), compressor, exp pedal FX, the noise suppressor is built in to the HX, and I either use the amp or distortion but rarely both, but with the boss I'm locked into them. So that's 12 - 5/6 = 7or 6 useful FX blocks. When the HX stomp goes to 8 blocks (DSP is fine as I've tried it on my helix on one path which is the same as the HX stomp) it will be more useful. I'm not saying that the boss is crap but the selling points are mostly marketing fluff, because the caveat to 24 simultaneous blocks is it isn't flexible and that's a big thing. I experienced this with the gt100 vs the hd500 years ago. Also the boss 32 bit 96khz sample rate vs 24 bit 192khz converter - bit depth = amplitude volume range, sample rate is freq range. The helix sounds smoother and nicer. Dynamic range is fine at 24 bit the higher resonant freqs are more important for live playing the recording and 96khz just reach cd quality and live playing needs the other harmonic freqs that are higher in live use to emulate analogue equipment better. Few point this out in the boss gt1000 vids. Still a good unit for some if the locked FX types suit your needs but all the info needs to be presented including the caveat of 20 of the FX blocks are duplicates that locked to 9 locked to an FX type blocks and some not useful to all. Other units use scenes or snapshots to remedy different settings rather than multiples of the same delay to achieve changes in the same patch.
I rarely use 4 comps, tremolo, phaser, flanger, chorus, 12 delays and 12 reverbs. So what's the point with 32 freely asignable FX blocks? And if you try it then a lot of FX blocks become inactive. For me this is not so much more processing power. The gt is fizzy sounding but the helix is not smooth. It's muddy sounding. Both devices are good MFX and I get it that everyone has his preferences. But I cannot follow your argumentation. Btw. I don't own a helix or gt and I won't buy one. But that's my preference.
@Arne Schild I think something got lost in translation the boss locks you into multiples of 4 for the same FX type to get to 24 blocks without exceeding dsp. A Helix can do that and apart from doubling on Delay and reverbs for a certain effect I have a great set up that uses 28 completely DIFFERENT effects in a single patch which I can use for a whole set. That's the point of 32 mostly DIFFERENT freely assignable FX blocks offered by the helix. It's like having the equivalent of a huge pedal board for psychedelic soundscape FX but not taking up a whole organ case as a pedal board (yes I have seen some bands do this with individual pedals). That's the point of the Helix. I of course don't need that many when playing less FX demanding styles like jazz or simple rock but I like the option for psychedelic and fusion soundscapes. .. but we're talking about a boss gt1000 (24 block claim) review that makes some comparison with an HX stomp (6 blocks at the time of the review - now updated to 8 blocks freely assignable) Having said that, I was critiquing the lack of info on the gt1000 (a claim of 24 simultaneous FX) when especially hearing glossed over comparisons with the HX stomp (6 simultaneous FX at the time of writing the first comment) not the helix. I was politely arguing against the sales pitch of the GT1000 for the reasons you stated which are the same as the ones I stated. My point was a lot of youtubers claim the boss gt1000 is more powerful when specifically compared to the L6 HX stomp without explaining all the routing caveats and FX block choice limitation of the boss gt1000 unit - that the boss dsp allocation is managed by locking FX blocks. This approach doesn't suit me although it may suit others. I find the hx stomp fw 3.0 8 flexible FX blocks of the hx stomp better. As a consumer I'd want to know about the locked in FX types of the boss gt1000 before buying it so I don't get a nasty surprise thinking I can have 24 different blocks as this and other promo videos happily glossed over. So in terms of your first point we agree, that we don't need 4 multiples of each FX type as presented by the boss unit to achieve 24 simultaneous blocks. As far as getting good sounds out of the either of the units, I've heard good sounds from both in the right hands and the right knowledge. There are some tricks to getting them to work although I haven't used a gt1000 so it may have changed. In case you're interested even though you said you have no plan to get either multifx ecosystem... I've owned the boss gt100 a long time ago and have played through a me80 and many other older units (korg axseries, TC electronics nova system, Digitech etc) and they all sounded better through an amp with the rudimentary cab simulator on (not the current gen of IR). The boss me80 needed you to plug a headphone jack in to activate but the rest you just turned them on. The hd500 was the first unit I experienced that sounded better when you set it up the way it was labelled - to amp combo when going to a combo or direct line with a cab Sim when going to a pa/FRFR. Although if you used an amp block even though you went into an amp (tone stacking essentially) you needed the cab Sim on to smooth out the high frequency harmonics generated by an amp Sim block.. I think that's the general rule of thumb - amp Sims generate high end fizz for harmonic resonance (above 8kHz) that is mitigated by a cab block simulating the frequency drop off of a guitar speaker. I own a helix and HX stomp and don't have trouble getting a smooth sound. The demo videos by Rabea and Johnathan Cordy both demonstrate that both the Boss and L6 HX units can be made to produce smooth tones at different gain stages. Check their videos to see if whether you like the sounds they produce, to see if it's a case of different sonic taste or by not owning either unit a case of not knowing how to set them up to sound pleasing (respectfully). So I disagree with your point about not being able to tame the gt 1000 fizz or smooth out the hx stomp, positing you may not know how to use either of the units to achieve a pleasing sound, and or we may have different tastes and we don't have to agree on the sound. There was a learning curve in tweaking when I first got the helix (same engine as the hx stomp) and in the later firmware updates they've made the stock setting of the cabs to correct eq shelf to mitigate the fizz - previously you had to high shelf at 8k-10kHz and the low shelf to 80ish Hz. Now they're all set about there from stock so less of a learning curve. To summarise: 1) we agreed about the management of the FX blocks of the boss gt1000 being locked in not needing 4 multiples of the same fx and youtubers reviewing these products should make it clear that they aren't 24 free FX blocks. 2) we disagree about the possibility of a smooth sound out of both units and I posit you may not know how to set the units up to sound that way. Rabea's promo and Johnathan cordy's review demonstrate a nice tone, and if you don't like the sound from those reviews, then it's a case of us happily having differences of opinion of what sounds good, which is also perfect fine.
@@johnnytwo-shoes9798 I didn't mean to be rude. We agree partly with 1) and 2). 1) I think that 32 or 8 free FX blocks (which may no longer be available due to dsp restrictions) are even more marketing nonsense from Line 6 than the 24 fixed blocks from Boss. Boss has always used fixed blocks since the first GT-5. So that should not be a big suprise. 2) On the helix you have to increase the treble and presence. And on the gt you have to decrease them. Problem with the hx stomp and hx fx is that you loose one of your 8 FX blocks for an EQ. But, of course you can get a good sound out of both units.
@@xycl2008 I didn't think you were being rude. I just write a lot and can't highlight and try to be specific.. I think I come across as passive aggressive rude when I type a response and don't mean to. Anyway, I don't have the problem of running out of dsp for the hx units but I run mono FX and favour low dsp FX to max out block usage. I have the hx stomp for simpler setups than the helix floor, but from reading advice for using the new poly FX on the Helix, I think I'm what you'd call a power user, I always come close to maxing out DSP, using all the FX blocks feeding path A into B (I did that from the start - they called it the super serial path). On the HX units the shelf eqs are included in a cab/IR block no loss of another block(which can also be a amp/stock cab block to save another block) and the high/low shelves are a cut freqs, high shelf reduces treble and low shelf reduces bass (so it's the same as the gt1000). Also you have to pick the right mic model based on they type of speaker you use to monitor. Some are more shrill than others. I just want reviewers of the Boss products to say that many FX are locked to a type for transparency. I bought the gt100 originally over the hd500x thinking I was getting all flexible blocks and when I got it home I had a nasty surprise (it had 12 or so with 2 flexible). I sold it and got the hd500x with 8 blocks and 2 amp blocks and I found that better. The boss approach might suit others better but I just wanted the sales people or reviews to provide that details so we the consumer can make a better informed decision I wish the sales guys at the store knew the boss products well enough to tell me about that limitation of the boss back then, as I wouldn't have bought it, but they didn't and gave me a similar sales pitch, so when I see the same thing happening here with the gt1000 core I thought I should point it out.
core core core, i remember when boss gt-1000 was joke for almost everyone (before updates) and now this 'core' is something like miracle.... i dont get it. btw boss gt-1000 isn't big, has pedal and more inputs. at the end, core has almost same price. pointless...ben stop joking. u can lie only to amateurs.

I of course don't need that many when playing less FX demanding styles like jazz or simple rock but I like the option for psychedelic and fusion soundscapes.
.. but we're talking about a boss gt1000 (24 block claim) review that makes some comparison with an HX stomp (6 blocks at the time of the review - now updated to 8 blocks freely assignable)
Having said that, I was critiquing the lack of info on the gt1000 (a claim of 24 simultaneous FX) when especially hearing glossed over comparisons with the HX stomp (6 simultaneous FX at the time of writing the first comment) not the helix.
To summarise:
1) we agreed about the management of the FX blocks of the boss gt1000 being locked in not needing 4 multiples of the same fx and youtubers reviewing these products should make it clear that they aren't 24 free FX blocks.
The boss approach might suit others better but I just wanted the sales people or reviews to provide that details so we the consumer can make a better informed decision
I wish the sales guys at the store knew the boss products well enough to tell me about that limitation of the boss back then, as I wouldn't have bought it, but they didn't and gave me a similar sales pitch, so when I see the same thing happening here with the gt1000 core I thought I should point it out.
Talking talking talking
too much bla bla
This that and the other... It is what it is as it was made for working with your other fx pedals case closed. Do like it don't buy it... simple.
core core core, i remember when boss gt-1000 was joke for almost everyone (before updates) and now this 'core' is something like miracle.... i dont get it. btw boss gt-1000 isn't big, has pedal and more inputs. at the end, core has almost same price. pointless...ben stop joking. u can lie only to amateurs.
It sound like crap...avoid...
The helix is muddy and the gt1000 fizzy sounding.
