Hi Brett....another super review mate! Ptetty much my go to for reviews......I remember years ago your daughter on your vids....hope your family are safe well. From east Scotland.
My bass pedalboard happens to be all Boss and all digital, so this unit has literally every effect on my board and 1000 times more, and those effects aren't even modelled, they are the same exact digital programs. What's on my board right now costs 50% more than the GT-1000Core, and takes up about 6x as much room (two Boss BCB-3 boxes). The only thing I'd give up would be individual footswtiches, but because most of my pedals don't get switched during songs, only in-between songs, I might not even miss the individual switches. For guitar, it doesn't replace as much for me, but it could definitely replace the whole MD-500/DD-500/RV-500 trio with only one box. (Freeing up space for a VE-500 and RC-500, lol).
@Hank Hill The amp models sound good in general, and distortion pedal models as well. Overdriven matchless model is my go to, with the amp gain rputed to expression pedal.
I’m curious, Mr. Kingman. With all the features bundled into the GT 1000 Core, is one of them the ability to “profile” outside sounds the way the Line 6 Helix and Kemper Profiler models do? Through 2023, my preferred distortion is one that isn’t likely to be emulated in most (if any) Boss devices, a Goat Generator from the Japanese builder called Rancher. If I were to purchase the Core, I would be willing to use the effect sends to integrate that distortion unit into the sound chain, but I would like it even more if this unit itself were capable of capturing the sound in the mainframe and allowing me to include it in the stomp section.
Nice, I can keep my vg99 purely for synth & get my fx routing with the Core into my Katana & with midi I can use my fc 300 for all my switching & expression pedals. This looks like my perfect solution.
Here we go back to Boss dull Academy of Rock presets. While you say you can do your own amazing projects, it has never been witnessed that it can actually be done.
Another Killuh vid.... Now we should have a GT-1000 Core vs Fractal FM3. For owners of the FXIII, I would go with FM3, unless I had money to burn and/or really like Boss FX. ....dang, I like Boss FX. These guys started it all. Comparison quick!
Hi Brett, I'm wondering how the CORE takes analogue overdrive pedals and the difference between that and running the same OD pedals into a valve amp. Foolishly I bought a Line 6 Spider V amp and it turns really great OD pedals into mush; it makes a Tubescreamer sound like a lo-fi fuzz pedal which no amount of EQ twiddling can fix. I'm hoping that if the CORE is friendly to analogue OD pedals then I could run it into a FRFR powered speaker and be done with conventional guitar amps altogether. Chronic ankle and hip probs have made carrying valve amps a thing of the past for me. I've read that the GT-1000 amp modelling is superior to the GT-100, so if the CORE it takes pedals well it might even take my Line 6 HX Effects well too.
Nothing has changed since the large GT1000. Exactly the same algorithms. And if so, no, you still have to cough up about the same amount of money to get that Eventide H9, which is the dons of pitch shifting.
But sy1000 is already an upgraded version of osc(sy 300)(subtractive analog synth system) + midi pickup synth system(modeling synth system)... and they have already released a ‘compact’ or a ‘core’ version of their synth model, which is called sy1. If BOSS is trying to release the core version of sy1000, what type of synth effector will it be?
Kyle Won No. They have a “1” lineup just like a “1000”, “200” and now a “1000 core” lineup. Basically, a 1000 without the extra controls. They don’t have a compact 13pin system so there’s an opening for that. 13pin isn’t midi by the way - it’s analog. It’s just 6 separate connections per string, plus noise cancelling and a single ground connection.

I think Boss made a huge mistake by not providing a separate headphone out. The Fractal FM3 had the same issue and it got fixed. The problem is, if you're in a recording situation and you've used up the stereo outputs for the monitors, you need a separate mixer for headphones. What was Boss thinking?
The L output doubles as a stereo phone output, if you haven't noticed. I can't believe in which situations, in which you had to use BOTH outputs occupied with cables, and then on top of that really have to use a separate headphone output and connect phones to that one. This one will very much be ok with me. You haven't read the specs properly that's all. I don't know your recording situation at all, and that doesn't makes sense. And in any recording situation I definitely don't want to hear only the CORE inside headphones, since nothing else comes in there. Totally the opposite. If one should come into such situation that you are troubleshooting live or in the studio, I think it's a greater benefit to have the headphone output at one of these outputs. If you hook it all up, connects everything, but there is still no sound - then you can connect headphones to that output and check if there's any signal. Then, if you can hear your playing through that one, you have made sure that the output and the unit is ok. If not, there's something wrong with these outputs, and you have only to troubleshoot the unit. If there's signal, all of the GT100CORE is ok, then you can start looking elsewhere for faulty cables and connections or mute buttons on the mixer... Which you can't do on a separate headphone output. There, you know that the headphone output is working only, and not the correct output to the board/mixer/amp. It might still be something wrong at the output. And if the headphone output is faulty on the unit, it may still work on the stereo outputs...a win/win soultion this one.

Thank you for the demo and the playing! This thing tempts me, at the same time I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the options. Boss says it includes the algorithms from 500-series pedals. Is it, e.g., possible to use it like a DD-500 delay? This might be a start: Buy it as a nice delay, chorus, reverb and the rest is a bonus option for the future.
yes. It's only the externals and auxilliarys, that they cut down on. And you can use expr pedal of your choice. Don't like the MIDI in/outs on the sides though. Those "mini" midi jacks from the 200 series should be banned by law. If had any guts, you should say "run midi through usb instead", and leave it at that. Today the midi protocol and rate is nothing to write home about in the stream. It would absolutely cause nothing to be sluggish.
@@WutipongWongsakuldej Yeah I know very well that. It's not that what it is about. On the DD-500 it's regular MIDI connectors. Those MONDO sized. They should have no problems using the same USB connectors or cables for MIDI. I've aways wondered that with other units too. Since about 10-12 years ago. MIDI starts to become sooooo 80s by now. A bit long in the tooth, past its due date. It was even by then. You only need TRS cables, like 2 different lines and one "ground". In the 80s they used 5 pin DIN cables which no one used. Only 3 of the 5 pins where used. You can use USB to interact with other devices. All people carries some sort of USB cable these days. It's for interacting with other devices.

The difference is besides being much smaller pretty much less buttons, no expression pedal and slightly less IO and no bluetooth otherwise it is the same and sounds the same.
Brett, I believe you are a Musicman endorser. Jay Graydon once mentioned that the bridge pickup on the MM Axis Super Sport is the best sounding pickup around. What are you thoughts here and does the non-super sport Axis have the same electronics?
I am, yes. I like the pickup in this guitar a little more than my blue Super Sport. It could be just a hardware difference - locking vs non-locking bridges - but there's a perceivable difference to me. If I could buy a box of these exact same pickups I would do it in a heartbeat.
No, since it will probably cost significantly more. Also it looks like a HX Stomp rip off, so why not buy the original? For me the primary reason to buy the HX Stomp was to get great amp modeling hardware with a small footprint at a reasonable price.
Killer riffing- Brett kills it! I keep looking for a "do it all" kinda thing. This one has the connectivity and two sends with returns. But only the mutant midi jack to interconnect? What is that- how does that proprietary control work? Can my ES-5 control it?
700 for a do everything pedal? it has AIRD tech so it get's stupidly close to the real thing, the only thing that will stop anyone from getting it is your willingness to dive into menus and price, usually a board with this many effects is double the price... but it has the best effect you can ever buy, a tuner that alone is worth the price
What it comes down to, for me, is will it sound SO much better than the GT-1 that it justifies a price that is 3.5 times higher. And the GT-1 comes with an expression pedal already! So far, everything I've heard from the GT-1000 suggests is might be a bit more realistic a sound than the GT-1. But that does not necessarily mean better. I'll give it a try when they get to Montreal, but I suspect I'll be hanging on to both of my GT-1s... and my Mooer GE200, for that matter.
After owning the gt 1000 and line 6 stuff I will second the mooer ge 200. The amp and cab models are really good. Much better than the boss IMO. They can be had on Reverb for 1/3 the price
@@leelauriemcalister4774 how's the ge300? i'm going down a rabbit hole of multi effects with IR in them and that one seems great because of the ease of getting into menus
Just a warning its a great piece of kit but trying to get the core1000 usb to computer is almost impossible so poor marks to Boss which should have provide that cable just like Helix do.
Boss advertise the gt1000 as essentially having all the 500 series pedals, however, in your example of a pedal board you put one of those in. Does the individual unit still sound better or was it just an example?
@@CarlosFerreiraOfficial Yeah, my apologies. I'm a little in front here because I have a hard copy. Roland are yet to upload it to their site but I doubt it will be long. Cheers.
I have the Ampero One. I can't hear anything here that I couldn't replicate on mine. Only thing I suggest is to change the mic placement settings to reduce the fizziness. Otherwise, nothing wrong with the unit at all. (And it has a real USB A connection instead of that weaker micro USB I see here).
As 4eektone said, color screens are a scam. On stage in stage lights it gest washed out. Line 6 Stomp HX runs at a whopping 1 A (1000 mA) and a proprietary wall wart and plug, JUST in order to produce a posh, and flashy color sceen. Absolutely of no use on stage lights. I would instead go for getting rid of every blue led that's in there. Drives me nuts at home, studio, and onstage. After the retina even has passed it, in a fly by way, the contrasts for everything else is jinxed for quite a while.
Brett, greetings from Hollywood California! I really enjoy your pedal demonstrations so many to view! Here's my comment. I don't see any final opinion either good or bad about the pedal. Like what you like or maybe the pedal builder could include this or that etc...I know on some you are paid to play them but how can we get an honest assessment of the pedal if you don't tell us your honest thoughts!
24 block of simultaneous running effects, however, in any H9, just one at a time. You can't use pitch shifter and reverb at the same time on any H9, if not any specific algorithm is created for it, but by and large, maybe only two at a time, if the algorithm, allow for it. Otherwise. You can load own IR's into this one.
@@henkehakansson2004 Good point. Thats the one downside of the H9. Only one effect at a time. In your opinion are the effects on the Boss equal in quality to the H9?
@@rickroy1353 It depends, in sound quality, some things do, some things don't. H9 has center positive in current jack which beats me. All their other stompboxes has center negative (Rose, etc) which beats me. And H9 DOES NOT have 1 mOhm instrument input which means it works best in any FX loop, or insert. Which beats me further since it has an onboard tuner. H9 trumps everyone, including Strymon, when it comes to pitch shifting effects. Maybe the reverbs are better in H9 too, but H9 have no amp simulation or distortion that holds any candle to Helix, Boss GT1000 and the likes. Delay, and modulation is basically the same, and an even wash. I was thinking of having a compact pedalboard with GT1000CORE, Boss DD-500 Delay (which I already own), H9 Max only plus switch and expression pedal, but it puts me way out of my wallet. I think it's overkill, because H9 and GT1000CORE covers a lot, overlaps, and covers too much of the same ground. However, I do think H9s overall sound quality is more pristine, and posh. By and large. But here it comes: I think like this: H9 is more aimed towards studio, too, and other instruments too, like keyboards, vocals, and other instruments, and thus, requires a little more precise, and meticulous algorithms and sound quality. GT1000 and CORE is more geared towards guitarists/bassists, with its amp simulations, and since electric guitars only goes so far in terms of frequency response - and guitarists may be wanting that grit moreso than lush, posh things - the reverbs, shimmers, delays, and pitch shifters may work very well for guitarists, but will fall a bit short with other instruments, at least compared to H9. But remember, just a tad only. And since I've encountered too many irks and quirks with Boss DD-500 delay in an operating sense, I think I am afraid to put that amount of money on the GT1000CORE being "burnt". Boss ain't as supportive of bugs, they wait until next release and wants new features first as a priority, before they are adjusting their bugs. We are still guinea pigs and beta testers for them, even after its official release. H9 had lots of issues too in the beginning, but Eventide upped the ante, and addressed this with softare updates.
As cool as this is, Boss gear is kind of expensive. I feel like NUX could build a pedal with equivalent features, sounding just as good and sell it for around $400 USD, likely significantly less than what this is selling for. And it would have a colour screen. They could even call it the MG-1000 :)
In series within the loop, in series within the 2nd loop, in front of the pedal or after the pedal. Maybe even in parallel within the loops. Haven't explored that yet. But open your mind to versatility.
Boss gear IS the business, been using Boss pedals for decades to good effect ( pardon the pun ) will definitely be investigating this unit tho realistically a handful of effects is all I really need. Best wishes, 🎸😁👍
The switches can be colour coded. This has a Bluetooth editor you can connect to your phone so really theres no need to even use the screen other than to see which preset you're on

Picksalot it has 3.5mm midi connectors both in and out. Just need an adapter for 5 pin DIN. Don’t know if USB MIDi operates at the same time.
GREAT job!!!
Thanks for the video. This can be used to recording? I didn't liked the tones...
Does the original Boss GT1K have the TRANSPARENT amp sim? TIA 🤘
It does!
Would it be an HX Stomp Killer?
I think in many ways, the GT-1000 Core "stomped" on the HX stomp, pun intended :-)
What interface is being used in this video
For your computer
PreSonus Quantum. Details in the description block.
@@BrettKingman Thank you
700 for a do everything pedal? it has AIRD tech so it get's stupidly close to the real thing, the only thing that will stop anyone from getting it is your willingness to dive into menus and price, usually a board with this many effects is double the price... but it has the best effect you can ever buy, a tuner that alone is worth the price
"AIRD tech" isn't particularly impressive. The same engineer who worked on Pod HD worked on this. Fizzy and boxy sounding - just like Pod HD.
@@projectgoatse Yes, I think I'll wait until they cram all this into an MS3. It will happen sooner or later. Not now though.
First! Never been first on a Burgs demo before.
Boss=reliable. Cool unit.
It was just an example. This will probably sound better as it has a faster sampling rate
That's not really how they've advertised it. It's pared down, but has the Core effects. Plenty for 99.9%
Can this be used with solid state analog amps/preamps? Thanks 😊
4eektone thanks 😊 I need one of these or the od version in my small pedalboard
What’s the price?
Whats the difference between this and the MS3?
This is an amp modeler and multieffects, in the other hand the MS3 is only multieffects!
Hi Brett, very cool unit. Do you know if the looper works without external CTL pedals?
Yep. You've just got to assign the functions to the onboard switches. Pg.15 in the manual.
@@BrettKingman Thanks, I couldn't find the manual in the website yet. Keep up the good work!
@@CarlosFerreiraOfficial Yeah, my apologies. I'm a little in front here because I have a hard copy. Roland are yet to upload it to their site but I doubt it will be long. Cheers.
Brett, you can make anything sound good with your guitars amps & chops!! You’re as bad as Ola ! 🤣🤣🤣 nice video as usual brother !
5:23 Double Amp = VH
Sound good 🤘🤘
How does it compare to the Hotone Ampero? Thinking of buying one of these types of processors.
This blows away the Ampero but it’s twice as much.
Sick, any go pricing in Australia yet?
Sounds great. But that ain't cheap.
This is not a big thing but... still no color screen? 😕
It doesn't matter. Sound is what matters.
Better than the H9?
But here it comes:
I think like this: H9 is more aimed towards studio, too, and other instruments too, like keyboards, vocals, and other instruments, and thus, requires a little more precise, and meticulous algorithms and sound quality.
How do you hook up 4 or 5 pedals when theres only 2 sets of send and returns
In series within the loop, in series within the 2nd loop, in front of the pedal or after the pedal. Maybe even in parallel within the loops. Haven't explored that yet. But open your mind to versatility.
Price?
700 US DOLLARS
Trunk McEight This looks much sweeter than the HX Stomp. 24 simultaneous effects...Stomp has 6.
Ok...How I gonna explain this to my wife?
Ok that’s why it’s great how small this thing is...
The struggle is real.
Your back hurts. lol
You borrowed it from the mistress...that's all she needs to know ;)
Sounds great but at £600 plus it’s a bit pricey
The FM3 is $1099.00 so.....?
Boss gear IS the business, been using Boss pedals for decades to good effect ( pardon the pun ) will definitely be investigating this unit tho realistically a handful of effects is all I really need. Best wishes, 🎸😁👍
HX stomp Vs GT 1000 core VS TC plethora
I find boss stuff hard to use. Also individual pedals still sound better.
Nowhere in the entire fucking youtube did anyone say any boss multi-effect sounds better than individual stompboxes
Yes, and what should differ from all the rest of the multi-fx brands out there?
I really miss hearing more clean basic guitarsounds...🙏
That's not very difficult to achieve. But as a baseline, I like to hear it first before each demo starts.
sounds good but I'd spend few hundred more and get the FM3.
Woah, monochrome screen in 2020 and no colorcoding for footswitches :-/
The switches can be colour coded. This has a Bluetooth editor you can connect to your phone so really theres no need to even use the screen other than to see which preset you're on
@@phildyerguitar I could be wrong, but i dont think it has Bluetooth.
The display is ridiculous, and if the outs are unbalanced, this thing is not only late to the show, it is short of important features.
Too many effect IMHO. It sounds great but I just couldn't hear the amp sim. Brett is great. BOSS is great. But it sounds digital to me! Maybe my ears are digital...
BOSS is good for clean sound but for versatility I would go for mooer ge300..
Too much reverb. Reminds me of the pod XT pod x3 days
It's less expensive than the hx stomp jsjsjs
It"s a hundred more than the stomp
If only it had an aux in...
They probably didn't bother because all the Katana amps have it already.
Trying.............not.........to play..........Ritchie Blackmore!: 3:42
