I watched this video last month when my cat disappeared. It happened about two days after we had moved into our new home. The day after moving, my husband had to go on a business trip, then our cat, who was really bonded to him took off. I searched everywhere for him but couldn't find him, but I did find coyote tracks which made me think the worst. To be honest, I wasn't very confident that his microchip would work. I decided to try registering it just in case and tried one of the free registries. Amazingly, a month later someone found him! He was 15 miles away headed in the direction of our old home. I think he was looking for my husband since he had been away. We got him back just in time for Thanksgiving which made it extra special. I wish anyone here that has lost their pet good luck, it still feel like a miracle we got him back. :)
Thank you SOOOOOOOOO MUCH for making this video. I have only one question: Where do we get the chips for each of these companies? Who carries which chips? I only know that Petco carries 24Pet
The free services are "legit" but might have less customer service. For example, paid services with Buddy ID (Microchip ID Systems) include a 24/7 live call center which can be a huge help for both finder and owner. Also, I LOVE when people understand that just because someone is poor, doesn't mean they won't love an animal and do their best for them. Too many people think the poor shouldn't be allowed to have animals. That's the most bullshittest bullshit of all bullshit. Love is Love. That's what matters.
I commented to this video about my truly awful experience with Home Again. People need to know about this. Why was my comment deleted? This is helpful, and I've given the links to your videos on finding lost animals a number of times, but don't understand why you deleted my comment.
When the pet is brought to a shelter or vet they are scanned for a chip. The chip number is registered to the owner so the finder can call or email to let them know their pet is found.
@user-gg8fj9qb4d yes of course 😊. My primary audience is American. There are so many microchip registries all over the world its mind boggling. What country are you in?
Thank you for your insightful video. Do you find if there is any benefit to registering my pet with more than one service? Registering fee aside, is it better for me and my pet to be registered for example on found animals foundation as well as save this life? I am getting a new pet this week my last two dogs who have now passed away or registered with home again. I had no idea that I didn’t have to pay the annual fee so, thank you for enlightening me.
Sorry for the deplay in replying - I just saw your comments. It can't hurt to register with more than one registry. I would think that using the very well known and popular ones like Home Again are your best bet because every shelter knows to check them. Found Animals was bought out and functions differently now, so I need to do some research and do an updated video.
Also, to add to my previous request and comment, my dog is coming from an established breeder in Hungary therefore she will have an international microchip and passport. Do you find that this microchip is also useful in North America ie. USA?
Any 15 digit microchip should be able to be registered with one of the American registries. You should take your dog to the vet to see if they can pick up the chip with the American ISO scanner.
Thanks for the tip! Yes they did and the migration didn't go well. They combined my business and personal accounts and lost some of my pets' information. Bizarrely, there is no way to access my account information to see if the address and phone number are accurate. I gave up and switched to BuddyID which is a much better interface with excellent customer service.
Are these registries able to take universal Microchips you can get on Amazon in packs? I'm looking to microchip a litter of puppies prior to them going to homes or as they adopt them. Also, have you heard of Fi Nano?
Yes, you should be able to register any chip with any registry. I haven't heard of the Fi but will look into it! I need to do an updated video as things have changed.
My breeder will microchip my puppy as my request, I’m not sure what brand of microchip she will pick. But it’s matter to me which can I pick whatever registration serves website I want which no matter what microchips company she used? Many thanks
So you can have your pet chipped with 24 pet watch & michaelson ( found animals )? I had our dog neutered and microchipped at local humane society & HS said he’s already registered with 24 hr pet watch & pet watch said he’s not registered until I pay the lifetime 94.95 & I can’t go to portal to see if he’s registered or if they have information correct. I just want a company I can trust. I’m hoping humane society automatically registered him with them because this guy will not do anything for me until I give him$ & I don’t feel like my dog is safe with this company
Yes, you can register your chip with any company! Although many shelters do register chips at the time of adoption or reclaim, don't count on it. Go to www.foundanimals.org and register the chip today. It's free and quick!
Thanks for the video. I adopted a pittie today and have never had to do this before. No clue what I'm doing lol
Glad you found the video helpful! The microchip system can seem confusing but if you take the necessary steps your dog will be protected for life.
Great video and extremely informative! Thank you :)
You're welcome!

That SO BOSS!
Many Many more snuggles for the hubby and his cat : )
Thank you SOOOOOOOOO MUCH for making this video.

I only know that Petco carries 24Pet
Here is the link for the Buddy ID which includes lifetime registration. amzn.to/40nIx7v
Great video I am looking to chip my tortoise collection
Great idea! Tortioises do go missing and can travel farther than you may think.
I was thinking more like if someone would steel them
are free pet microchip companies legit? or is it better to go with one that has a fee?

Free is always best. Lol. I use Michelsens for all my animals. It is so easy.
For sure. It's easy and fast, which makes people more likely to do it.
Also, I LOVE when people understand that just because someone is poor, doesn't mean they won't love an animal and do their best for them. Too many people think the poor shouldn't be allowed to have animals.
That's the most bullshittest bullshit of all bullshit.
Love is Love. That's what matters.
For sure! There is a lot of unfair judgment in animal welfare.

Sorry about that! The comment was not deleted, it was sitting in a "pending for review" queue. I approved yours and others that aren't spam.
How do the chip help find your pet?
When the pet is brought to a shelter or vet they are scanned for a chip. The chip number is registered to the owner so the finder can call or email to let them know their pet is found.
You mean "Top 5" in America. Believe it or not, the rest of the planet also own dogs. 😃
@user-gg8fj9qb4d yes of course 😊. My primary audience is American. There are so many microchip registries all over the world its mind boggling. What country are you in?
Can you register your dog chip with more than one service?
Yes, you can use any registry you want. The chip is basically just a number.
Thank you for your insightful video. Do you find if there is any benefit to registering my pet with more than one service? What do you think of Free pet chip registry ??
Do you have a link to their website?
Great video. Thank you for this. An update for you: Michelson Found Animals Foundation was acquired by PetHealth Inc.

So home again is 19.99 one time life payment for just basic registry
That's correct. You do not have the pay the yearly fee unless you want to continue premium services which are listed on their website.
Are these registries able to take universal Microchips you can get on Amazon in packs? I'm looking to microchip a litter of puppies prior to them going to homes or as they adopt them. Also, have you heard of Fi Nano?

That's right, you can use any registry you choose. It doesn't have to be the one used by the chip's manufacturer.
