  • Chrome lures are what many of us lure makers strive for. I have done quite a few videos on getting shiny chrome like finishes on lures but, I have recently found a few new techniques to improve the odds in getting a perfect chrome lure. In this video I include you in my experimentation and share the techniques I develop and demonstrate the process and the finished lures...enjoy.

    Just a tip for you, not sure if you know or not, .... You can top coat with a 2K Poly and tint it in a voilet, this will create a very shiny chrome look to your parts and will be much more durable than your 1K top coat ... When using the 2K Poly with the violet the silvering / chrome look stays the same, will not dull or turn any other colour.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

      Yes I know about the 2K and the tinted clear. When you're doing small items and very few of them I find it not worth the trouble to use the 2K. And I find that the UV resin is just as hard and durable. As far as using the violet tint...since I paint over the silver finish I don't really need to guard against yellowing much. I have been experimenting with silver plating lures for 8 years now and I have had to scale everything down to make it work and be cost effective. Thank you so much for watching and for your input.

    Have you ever heard of a DC Sputtering Magnetron? Way outside the spectrum of a home craftsmen but a fascinating way of getting metallic finishes on anything, not sure on the exact science but it involves using plasma and a vacuum to make the donor metal evaporate and deposit on everything else in the vacuum chamber.

    what is the thickness of the coating? I wonder how it will work on small wobblers with a small scale, whether chrome does not cover the structure of the scale.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 года назад +1

      The thickness of the coating is super thin something like 50 microns. It won't cover any detail like scale but it's hard to get a real shiny finish unless you've already put a clear coat on it

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

    @rdo6566 4 года назад +1

    Maybe I am missing something here but it looks like you did about a dozen lures and stated it took about 3 to 4 ounces of each chemical. Through the link you supplied that would have cost about $109 or am I looking at the wrong chemicals? At nearly $10 a lure that seems pretty high to me.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 года назад

      Here's what you're forgetting; the chemicals are mixed a hundred to one. So when I'm saying how much I'm using that's the diluted solution. When everything is going really well it's about 75 cents per lure. But if you're screwing a bunch of them up then it can get a little bit more costly. Thanks for watching. And for the question.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 года назад

      So to put it in numbers: Most kits give you enough concentrated chemical to make 1 L of each part. I use about 33 milliliters to coat about 5 lures. So something around 150 lures / kit is reasonable. But if you are doing it for the first time, expect a much lower yield until you really dial it in.
