Fun fact, Dari is a human trafficker, so either sending him away or letting him through results on dancers being found dead, if you use the checker with the letter and his name you can detain him and have a hand in shutting down a human smuggling ring at the Pink Vice. Every entrant that hands you a Pink Vice slip also always has valid paper (suspiciously obtained or not) and stops showing up after day 7 (The day the ring is shut down or the day dancers are found dead)

More fun that way. No game if it just automatically shows you the discrepancies yknow? When I played I preferred to do it by eye as well :)
I played like that, look by eye, then scan the detected discrepancies for any correction
The issue is if e.g name is different you need to interrogate (check for discrepancies) in case they got it changed, so you get fingerprints as well as a copy. Also for things like misspelt places it can be hard to tell sometimes
@@archangel5972 Well, I have ADHD and I seriously can't take in all that information, I'll always forget something then lose money. The discrepancy detector just makes it a lot more fun.
It's no game if you have to tediously check everything and hope your eyes aren't lying to you then get something wrong for no reason. You're just making it harder for yourself.

I like how no one even questions the fact that there is a system that clearly watches what we do and knows if we screwed up. This machine can read all the information and tell us that the last document had expired or that the ID numbers don't match. This system can do our job and yet someone decided that it shouldn't and that we needed to be there to inspect. An ex boarder inspector from the United Federation at some point tells us that in his country boarder inspection is an automated system and Arstotzka very clearly has a system like that and can scan the documents... And yet still chooses to have an inspector anyways.
They expect a loyal arstotzka citizen to detain and deny more people due to moral bias.
They need to employ the people and make an economy I suppose, my best guess

fun fact: If you ever get a person that gives you that prostitute ticket thing, they're already vetted and good to go. You don't need to check any of their stuff. It's a massive time saver later on when they start adding more paperwork.

For anyone planning on playing this game; you deal with Dani ludum by comparing the note with his passport or entry permit. This then allows you to detain him, which does not penalize you. SIMPLY DENYING IS NOT ENOUGH

Marks the first RUclipsr I watched play this game that decided "I NEED TO MEMORIZE EVERY CITY OF EVERY PASSPORT", instead of just coming to the obvious conclusion that he needs to keep the book open and ready to check cities of passports.
to be fair, with such a small work area, i think it wouldn't be far off to think that while playing the game, the game might not allow you to have it open except before opening your booth to the people. more so when he literally just opened the booth and played right ahead without exploring what the stuff around him are for and what those do. it's actually a very Markiplier thing to do, gave me a good laugh and kinda shows he really doesn't have time to browse others' playthroughs to at least get a hand on the game lol
Memorizing the cities makes checking it a lot faster and easier, though. Plus more desk space for the things you haven't memorized yet :P

@@eeza The game lets you keep the book open and use it while the timer is going. In fact, it even expects you to do that since you can scan the book for discrepancies in passports and the sort.

Papers Please is one of those games that you think will be simple but ends up being super complicated yet also very addictive that you can't stop until you beat.
Best tactic in this game is to alternate each day getting Food or Heat, then you will pretty much always have enough money. Then it's just trying to min max getting enough passports through the door and finishing all the story beats for the fun achievements.
Making me want to replay this game because I'm only missing the one achievement where I join that rebel group.

Why do you need the rule book?

To ensure that you don’t wind up making mistakes and getting citations.
For example: In order to figure out if the issuing city on the entrant’s document is correct or not, you take out the rule book and look at the map of the countries. Once you select a country, there’s a list of issuing cities after the page with the districts. If the issuing cities on the document don’t match up with the ones mentioned in the rule book, that’s when you interrogate the entrant. If they try to weasel their way in by saying that they don’t know what to say or try to argue that the inspector’s assumption is wrong, then you must deny them.

Why? Checking for discrepancies is useless, as soon as you see a mistake, just deny. You only need it when the reason stamp comes into play.
