I don't understand how they, in an earlier version (don't remember which), at the end, Laura talked about that "a few years later Albert came back to Walnut Grove, and all were very proud of DOCTOR Albert Ingalls". How come, if he died before going to medical school?
We recall an episode from around 1981 when in voice over Laura mentioned that one day Albert would become Dr Albert Ingalls. A few years later, with the series coming to a close, they could take a liberty and instead hope people didn't remember that episode. One of the greatest television series ever.

After the morphine episode, Laura narrated that Albert returned to Walnut Grove as Dr. Albert Ingalls. So did he die of a blood disorder or go on to become a doctor?

@pinky12351 That was an error in continuity. This happens with many tv series unfortunately. When the writers wrote the script for Home Again they apparently hadn't thought up the concept of Albert dying of Leukemia in a future episode.
I remember that narration! That was the episode where he accidentally burned down a building, wasn't it? And that narration took place at a memorial service toward the end, because someone was accidentally killed in that fire. Is that right?
I always refuse to accept that Albert dies in this movie. I always believe that this is the wrong ending and that he did end up being a doctor after all. :P Otherwise I start crying, because Albert is my favorite character.... D:
It wasn't Leukemia as that had already been touched on by name on the series. The side effects the doctor described were clearly symptoms of AIDS. I think it was Michael Landon's roundabout way of addressing the growing epidemic that was taking place at the time and since it didn't exist in the prairie days, they made it a nameless blood disorder.
I got involved in a war of words with some fucked up, ignorant creature who started this rift between us on another video. It's all cool now. I'm going to delete my old comments on this video. Sorry for the inconvenience.
May be it has taken me 9 yrs to read yr comment tonight, but sadly, even today, leukemia still has low chance of survival even after blood transfusion or bone marrow transfusion, so imagine back in the 19th century... Now we have a re-run of LHOTP, (S8E22) in my country, where James got shot... Cant wait for this series to air... Because i remember I cried the first time I watched it almost 40 yrs ago
If Albert has a blood disease, why don't they just drain his blood with leaches? Isn't that how they cured it in those days? Besides, in the episode where he's hooked on crank, at the end they announce that Albert goes on to become the town doctor, the writers need to do their homework.

This can only be what we now know as Leukemia. Back then it was 100% fatal, and most people died within 6 months of being diagnosed.
