This was one of the saddest episodes. LHOTP is one of the very few television series that has had me hooked to every episode. I love it "Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that's the way I'll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all. Loud and clear."
I loved the poem at the end of the first part at the funeral. "Remember me with smiles and laughter for that's how I'll remember you all If you can only remember me with tears, than don't remember me at all."
I love how this scene and episode is packed full of the emotion that made Little House on The Prairie one of the greatest shows of the late 20th century. I love how you can see the pain and sorrow on Michael Landon's face. You can also hear it in his voice and words, and see it in his eyes. This type of sincerity is not found in modern TV. I agree with you gerdienr86, the scene of Alicia at 9:37 is heartbreaking. I think among other things that are missing from modern Television and movies.
The Poem went like this. Remember me with smiles and laughter, for thats how I'll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all. It was recited by Melissa Gilbert AKA Laura "half pint" Ingalls, at Micheal Landon's funeral in 1991
I was 13 when I saw this episode debuted. That being said, I adored Patricia Neal and I was pleasantly surprised that she appeared on this episode. The eulogy at her character's funeral resonated with me and remains until this day. I do not believe in religion however I do believe in Source. I would love to have this eulogy spoken at my funeral.
you hit the nail on the head. a lot of shows in modern t.v. are so lacking, that's why more and more people are not watching t.v. anymore. they rent movies and watch old shows like this to be inspired.
A sad but beautiful épisode.. the mother is so brave . She knows she is dying but fully accepts it and prepares her children .So sad. Poor Alicia, Karl and john. They dont cry , they show strong i like this épisode but i am grieved ..Every time for the kids .
Patricia O'Neal played the first olivia Walton in the Walton and was the wife of the writer roald Dahl who wrote the bfg, Matilda and the witches as well as many others.Amazing man was roald dahl
This is one of the saddest episodes. I heard that Michael Landon had written the poem at the end of this clip. And that Melissa Gilbert read it at his funeral.
Wow, if that's true, that is amazing. I can't even begin wonder what that must have been like for poor Melissa Gilbert to recite that poem at Michael Landon's funeral.
Same here. She's kinda harsh IMHO. Also, her offering up the kids like they were some kind of prize hogs was creepy. Although John Jr. was so beautiful, I'm sure he would have gone FAAAAST in real life.
aww another one said-deathbed promise of charles:/someone of all us said that, true,i can NOW almost remember every once name viewers and comment on LHOP,we all talk discuss so sweet, our own little internet-walnut-grove,love that;)bless u;)/bella sweden
I thought it was lymphona(sorry for the spelling error). In the part of the episode where she goes to the doctors office, he mentions something about lymph nodes.
Such a violent and depressing show, always with the diseases and and fire's and hail and tornado's and Charles either beating up someone or someone beating up on Charles,, sniff i miss this show so much, it was the best.. and nellie was friggen hot the last few seasons
wot poem how did that go??have someone some of the words, what ppl from little house said in the landons funeral??plz write and tell.i mean did they do some remeber of him or so
This is possible the worse episode of little house of the paiarire a mother asking someone to take care of my kids when she is dying, but at the end it worked out!!!
Question: How come Albert Ingels was born after Carrey, but Carrey is younger than him later in the series? Or maybe I have the people mixed up. Straighten me out, please.
I still can never figure out how this show manages to tear me up every single time.

I can't help crying through this episode.

One of the best ever episodes IMHO. There are so many, I think they're all my favorite. But the poem just made this gold.
This sure brings tears to your eyes.

These shows are still relevant today, real life issues

Dude, I really needed to see that today. Today's eleven years since my mother died and I'm pretty sure that's what she'd want from me.
"Some of us are going to see him sooner than others."
Always leave them with a joke!

Kyle Richards is sooo cute:)
Does anyone else wonder if Jack was the puppies father?

Aww! Little Kyle Richards, another one of Paris Hilton's aunts.

@tigertbalm The women during that time looked much older than their actually age due to their hard living, so the character was right

Patricia Neal was 49 years old in 1975 - Alicia was about 9 or ten - it's possible that she could have had her at age 40.
Does anyone else wonder if Jack was the puppies father? They look more like him then they did their mother

Albert was adopted.

What happened to her children? After she died
who was the women who died?
Julia Sanderson

you ruined it for people who haven't seen this yet. the ending was very touching with Mr. Edwards gesture.
Patricia Neal was a bit old to be that little girls mother?
Back then people often had kids from the time they were about 15 up until the age of 45 so not necessarily?
This part isn't true to the actual life of Laura Ingalls.

Patricia Neal was great ,though she looked way to old to have a daughter Alicia's age.
I have a friend who's 49, but looks like one late 60's or early 70's.
