Not to eat too much was what he said. He just didn't want her to eat in between meals because the doctor put her into a strict meal.
The eating fo two thing is a myth
First, he never intended to be mean about it, he was concerned about her weird cravings, she only eated unhealthy stuff not real food, she could develop gestational diabetes and there are plenty of complications related to overweight/obese women. He never said she shouldn't eat but she has to be supervised so she doesn't loose control. Percival was right tho, it was his baby too after all. He was caring for both baby and baby mama, he was the sweetest man.
And second, she was eating for three, but they had no way of knowing bc there wasn't that technology yet.

Yes he tells Nellie he’s going 2 put a stop 2 her incessant craving fuelled snacking - bcuz he’s genuinely worried about what she’ll end up doing 2 herself long term.
When he objects 2 something it’s never from fear that his ego might b bruised or bcuz someone else makes him. He stands up 2 EVERYONE & carries a strong argument 2 back it up.

I'm pregnant right now and I'm very slim and take care of my figure - and yes, I know that the "I have to eat for two"-thing is a myth. And still I'm SO HUNGRY! I haven't been so hungry all my life and so I'll eat whenever my body and the baby tells me to (but I try to eat healthy). Leave poor Nellie alone! 😄

Not really. Nelly would have Said this to anyone BUT her husband. He was the only one who made her this soft. If she reacted "nowadays" the way you think this would be too much out of character. No matter in what time this take place.

She respected her husband because what he said was right. Comparing then and now is foolish considering divorce rates are so high. There's a reason people are getting divorced. Power struggles. This whole,attitude of "its my body!" Sure but when you get married your body is not your own. You can't just go and get a vasectomy without letting your wife know and agreeing on it. I suppose you could but prepare for the end of your marriage if your wife still wants more kids and you went behind her back to make sure that doesn't happen. Gaining a bunch of weight from eating junk food is not only detrimental to your own health but detrimental to your marriage and s*x life. The same hard-headed individuals will come crying because their spouse is no longer attracted to them. Yes that's what happens when you gain 100 lbs.

Listen to the dialogues carefully. The doctor put her on a strict diet and he was just trying to make her comply to it. Girls don't wanna be fat, especially at that time. So telling them that they would be fat from not following the doctor's words would definitely scare them from being a rebel. It's just a trick to make her comply, in my opinion.
Give it a rest it`s an old serie...like who cares....women are so boring, and yes I have an old son, and I get really big, whatever...and I can laugh any way

I gained a lot when I was pregnant the first time. I had a lot of trouble losing the extra weight
I was massive with all my kids..the weight always just dropped off after with me.
I was always fit and healthy before so maybe that helped.
