    7/10 is a fair rating. It's still funny and far from the worse series finale, but it doesn't feel like a series finale if that makes sense. I'm not sure how I could imagine a different ending for a show like Seinfeld though, I wouldn't really want it to have a more typical sitcom ending.

      There's no real closure, I think. "In jail for a year" sounds like it's just a setup for waiting for the next season. I've only recently been introduced to Seinfeld and watching its whole run, I found this a funny episode but in no way realized it was the series finale... I completely understand why people who had been waiting for it were left disappointed and confused.

    @Mibbitmaker Год назад +6

    The point about some of the characters that got even there not all being innocent victims (the Soup Nazi came to mind. Elaine's revenge on him was totally satisfying) was correct. But, overall, while feeling a bit strange, I liked it. I was OK with the characters coming back, but the last scene (not counting Jerry's stand-up) was, to me, perfect.
    There they were, stuck in prison for a year, and that's when they finally run out of fresh minutiae to talk about. These clever, talky people with no more talk just in time to need it most (for them). To me, that's a dark ending far better than Susan and the poison envelopes. It even seemed to be the inspiration for the original MST3K finale in 1999: after finally escaping the bad movie fest on the Satellite of Love, how do Mike & the bots spend their time back on earth? Watching B movies... only to see they're watching the 1st one on the series (not counting the local show season, and originally with Joel). Both shows had a character say, doesn't this seem familiar...?
    But, yeah, How I Met Your Mother had the worst finale.
    And, for that matter, Newhart had the best one.

    Here are my thoughts on the finale. I thought it was good for what it was; the characters get arrested for doing absolutely nothing. However, I can see why hardcore Seinfeld fans would be dissapointed. The ideas shown at 2:14 are REAL ideas that I found from Usenet posts as well as USA Today submissions. These ideas were insane compared to the finale of the series. My favorite one was by James Fernandez from Brooklyn where the gang goes around the world for the perfect Kosher Hotdog. With all the chaos they bring in New York, the gang would cause even BIGGER chaos on an international scale.

    It didnt make sense becausr the characters werent evil or enitrely bad people, nor was its audience. theyre so neurotic because theyre often trying to meet societal norms and be nice to people and getting frustrated by all of it, bur often helping people. It didnt make sense for them to end as doomed to never grow up, in a heavy negative way

    • @KawikaProductions
      @KawikaProductions Год назад +6

      I agree. Wheras Seinfeld is an episodic series where the characters do not change, HIMYM is a series where all the characters growth was ruined in the series finale. It was so bad that they re-edited the episode for its DVD release to give it a better ending.

    • @gnosticmind

    • @I_WANT_MY_SLAW
      @I_WANT_MY_SLAW Год назад +6

      HIMYM's ending was so awful, it actually lost them $100 million in syndication. You'll notice that HIMYM isn't syndicated as much as other sitcoms with that same level of popularity. If it's even syndicated at all on your local TV stations. The ending soured so many fans, that local stations passed on HIMYM reruns, and decided to air The Big Bang Theory, and even old sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld instead, as those sitcoms still attract more viewers in syndication than HIMYM. That's how much the ending turned people off. But you'll see Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, Everybody Loves Raymond, syndicated everywhere. Friends alone reportedly makes WB $1 billion. And we'll have to wait to wait and see the ripple effects of Matthew Perry's recent death by drowning in his hot tub, and how it affects Friends in terms of money generated. Because one of the selling points of Friends was that they were all alive. Will it become less popular without Chandler? Time will tell. It might even become more popular.

    The finale was ok. There were some good laughs on the private jet scenes, and it was cool seeing all the side characters assembled. That was a great tribute to those actors, and the writers who created those memorable parts, not to mention great fan service. The only real problem I have with it is that it didn't end on a big laugh like almost every other episode. It just went off in silence with them sitting in the jail cell. I think if they would have used Jerry's prison stand-up as the REAL final scene instead of relegating it to the end credits, it might have been better received because it ended with laughs.

      The episode (and in a sense, the whole series) ended on a down note. There was no big laugh at the end....just quiet...and the credits started to roll. That's the last emotion people remember, so that's what they take with them. Jerry's prison stand-up would have been a better ending, but they buried it in the end credits.
